I've played a fair number of the Japanese only games for the SEGA 8-bit platform. I don't really know any that would be worth the price of the system. The SG-1000 has the best exclusives. Girl's Garden, Monaco GP, Star Jacker, and Pacar are some I had a lot of fun with. But to spend the price of the system isn't worth beyond collectibility in my opinion. The Mark iii doesn't have any standout exclusives that I can think of.

Is the sg-1000 the japanese version of the master system?

The SG-1000 is the precursor to the Sega Master System, and was released at the same time as the Famicom. However, its sales were nothing compared to to the Famicom so Sega released a redesign called the Sg-1000 Mark II in Japan in 1984. That redesign didn't sell well either so in 1985, Sega just decided to make an all new system ,the Sega Mark III(known as the Master System in North America and Europe) and discontinued the SG-1000 Mark I and II that same year, which means the console had a lifespan of only two years.

I'd call the Master System and SG-1000 very similar systems. I would compare them to something similar to the Game Boy vs Game Boy Color. Surprisingly, the two systems use very similar specs. The CPU is the same 3.6 mhz Zilog z80. However, the SG-1000 uses a clone version of the CPU produced by NEC. The sound is the same as well. The video mode is different. The SG-1000 only allowed 16 colors. While the SMS had 64 with 32 displayed. But one of the biggest differences is the ram. With the SMS having 8 times the amount.

Due to the similarities, one game for the SMS, Fighting Falcon was programmed for the SMS as an SG-1000 game. The only reason it was an SMS exclusive is due to the RAM needs.

I own a Sega SG 1000, SG 1000 II and the Mark III (JP SMS) and own many SG1000 games (which play in the MkIII) but atm don't have any Mark III exclusive games.

"Happy game hunting!!!"

I don't know of any exclusives, and I know only one for the SG-1000.
