Top 5 3DS Games that are must-buys?
« on: February 27, 2015, 02:18:37 pm »
Hey all!

I attended the live recording of IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat last night, and they had an interesting conversation (and interactive "game") about their Top 10 3DS Games.

They basically summed up the premise with saying that someone just got their first 3DS and asked what are the first 10 games they should buy for the system.

A few criteria:
- can be downloadable titles
- virtual console titles (ports from retro consoles) don't count, but remastered older games are fine

What do you all think?  I thought it was an interesting conversation, but considering the small list of 3DS titles, I think narrowing it down to 5 would be best (they had 3 Zelda games on their top 10 list, and I thought that was overkill).  Also, games are like up to $60 each!  Suggesting something like 3 titles would be more practical, but that'd be really difficult, ha.

Here are 5 I'd definitely tell a new 3DS-user to buy (in order):

1) Animal Crossing: New Leaf
2) Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
3) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
4) Fire Emblem: Awakening
5) Persona Q

This question is really hard for me because most of my favorite 3DS titles are retro-nostalgia inspired like Theatrhythm. So that game might not be as fun for others if they haven't played through all the Final Fantasy games over the years.

So my list would be something like this:

1. Bravely Default
2. Cave Story
3. Theatrhythm
4. Fire Emblem
5. Zero Escape

I was definitely tempted to put on Zero Escape, and Bravely Default got cut at the last minute from my list... Cave Story is a good one! I still haven't played it, but I have heard great things.  Also Theatrhythm was also gonna be on my list, but yeah... your points were the same as mine.  I don't have a lot of FF experience but I still enjoyed the game.

5) SuperSmash or Cave Story 3D

I forgot about Fantasy Life! Someone suggested that for the list last night.  EOU was on my list earlier but I removed it because I thought it'd be too close to Persona Q.

And yes! Can't forget Smash, Pokemon, and Mario Kart! List is pretty difficult already, ha.

Here's mine (in no particular order):
-Animal Crossing: New Leaf - My most played 3DS game, and in my opinion the best in the series so far.
-Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan - Even though I haven't finished it yet, I've had a lot of fun with it.
-Fantasy Life - An awesome game that's even better with friends. ;D
-Fire Emblem: Awakening -A great entry in the series, even if nobody has feet.
-Rune Factory 4 - Lots of gameplay that will keep you busy for a long while.

While we're on the topic, why not also list our favorite download-only 3DS titles? (virtual console games don't count)
-Azure Striker Gunvolt - An awesome but short game that plays similarly to Mega Man Zero series.
-Liberation Maiden - Another short but fun game.
-Gunman Clive - Very cheap, and very worth the price it costs.
-Senran Kagura Burst 8) - It's a pretty decent fast-paced beat em up, though if you can't get past the... fanservice... I'd advise avoiding it.
-Flipnote Studio 3D - Not really a game, but it's a pretty nifty application. Making flipnotes is fun. :)
Currently playing: Persona 5 (PS4)

Though I am loving the 3DS still, now that I think of it I haven't played too many games as of now.  I'll give my input nonetheless

1. Fire Emblem: Awakening
2. Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure - The perfect example of a game that I wanted to be just a bit more, despite that it's a great ride
3. Legend of Zelda: Link between Worlds - A Zelda game where the puzzles are just right for me, yes!
4. Smash Bros. 3DS
5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I own Majora's Mask 3D, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet, also interested in picking up Persona Q at some point

We can get hold of a psychical copy here in the UK, PAL region.  The box art is, very revealing and the online purchase bonus that I didn't even know about??  ... Oh boy!
