Infinity Figure Naming Question
« on: August 16, 2016, 12:25:31 pm »
http://vgcollect.com/item/80895
is named "Falcon - Disney Infinity 2.0 Figure"

but
http://vgcollect.com/item/71555
is named "Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes - Venom"

It seems to me that the Venom one should be called "Venom - Disney Infinity 2.0 Figure" to be consistent with the other figures in the database. I submitted the change but it was rejected. Can anyone tell me why the Venom one would be named different?

Thanks

Change was made about a month ago. Best guess is if you read the box text from top to bottom it almost resembles the wording of the name change. This looks like another "how it appears on the box" vs. "how it should be listed" type of situation.  :P I agree with you though, IMO it should be (Character Name) - Disney Infinity 2.0 Figure to keep it in line with the rest of the entries.

The Lego Dimensions stuff has the same problem, but I haven't brought it up because I only wanted to open one can of worms at a time. :P

Erm...what the hell.  ??? Those name edits occurred around the same time as the Venom one.

Personally I prefer this naming convention over the other one just because there are no categories/subcategories specifically for the interactive figures area. this is both more descriptive and will section off the entire interactive figures categories for quicker searching.

Well there was discussion about tidying up the Interactive Figures/Cards section a few months ago but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

The other items in the database are named incorrectly.

I came across that Venom figure while working on other things, and fixed the name as I went about my business. I was the one who rejected your edit.

TONS of interactive figures were in the DB before that post was made so that would mean the near entirety of Interactive Figures are named incorrectly according to that link.  :o

You'd think there would be a distinction as they're listed in their own category far and away from the other toys/figures/plushes in the Swag category and the naming trappings from that link seems to better apply to things like Kai Arts, Nendroids, and the like as opposed to the nearly unposeable figurines specific to certain games (LEGO being an exception of course  ;)). I'm sure you disagree as rules is rules is rules (though according to this http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,22.0.html it's still not canonized...I'm sure it will get edited in there shortly  :P) but maybe there ought to be a vote as to whether those naming conventions extend to ALL toys on the forum? If democracy is too much of a hassle then perhaps some additional verbiage on that link that includes mention of the "toys" in the Interactive Figures section?  :-X

Thanks for the responses it looks like there is a lot to fix under the interactive figures then because it looks like most of the figures are named similar to the falcon example.

There was/is a ton of stuff to fix in that section even before this naming issue cropped up.  8) I keep telling myself at some point I'll go back to working on cleaning up entries/filling in the blanks if not for those damnable distractions that always arise.  ;)

Realistically though, it'll most likely come down to: Here's the rules http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,7129.0.html, follow them, and there won't be an issue.  ;)

I finally fixed the images for all the Skylanders / Infinity / Lego stuff I personally own this past weekend, and it was a chore. I'm sure there's still a ton left that's screwed up in that regard alone.

I fixed this link in your post. It was going to FTP for some reason.

Regarding the Style Guide, currently we have a bunch of things that fall into "unwritten rules" and are not on that list yet for some reason.

We need to adjust the Amiibo naming rule slightly.  Because Little Mac is number 16, he's being listed as one of the first Smash bros. amiibo in the list.  We should add a '0' to all of the single digit entries [No. 08 instead of No. 8].  Fox is only No. 6, but because the database is listing amiibo with smaller first digits, he's right at the back of all of the amiibo being updated.

Let us hope that they never decide to actually put the 0 in any future releases, then they will all have to be fixed. I do not agree that we should add a digit where one does not exist to make it look nicer. Instead, we should request that the category ordering be changed to count numbers as whole numbers, rather than only count each digit.

Wait for the site devs to adjust the entire listing algorithm, or add a single character to 9 items.  Just let the OCD take one for the team, I've already adjusted them anyway and it works as intended
