Title: The Toy Collectors
Post by: kamikazekeeg on February 18, 2019, 05:31:26 am
The other collection thread has gone fairly unused for quite awhile, so figured we could just open a brand new one with a focus on toy collecting as I casually pick up stuff as sorta my second collection after what I get with video games.  This isn't just a pickup thread, you can post your current collection or maybe something you plan to get, or maybe just talk about new stuff you are excited for.

I spent the weekend selling at the flea market with some friends and while I was trying to make a few bucks, I found a few things pretty cheap for myself.  I'm not a huge KH fan, but I wanted this alternate Sora, the Final Fantasy 8 stuff is a neat find and because the packaging is so yellow, I'm just going to open them up, and then this one shop had literally 4 (maybe more) of this House of the Dead zombie figure, and I bought 2, because they were 5 bucks, and my friends bought the other two.  I'll open one and either keep the other or give it to a friend.

When you open that Quistis, will you take another shot of her accessories? I traded for one years ago at a convention, and the previous owner was sure she'd lost her glasses, but I'm not seeing any there. Just curious what (if anything) I need to be replacing.

A closer glance makes it seem like she doesn't have any glasses.  I googled some pictures of her and it seems that generally while dressed like this, she doesn't wear glasses, mostly in just her uniform.

That's what I noticed too- I'm hoping they mis-remembered and it's a complete figure, but just in case there's something hiding behind the label or blocked off by the yellow- let me know what's in there later?

Will do, will be opening her up abit later and I'll scour the package just in case.

I still have that House of the Dead Strength figure (and its massive chainsaw) in storage at my parents’ place, along with Hierophant. There’s a few other gaming-related figures in there too, like Quake, Armored Core, Marvel vs Capcom, and Resident Evil. I used to have a big box full of Street Fighter figures but I sold them all.

Opened her up and no glasses, just the stand and whip, so you are good on that.

I'm not a big House of the Dead fan or anything, but it's just a really cool gaming figure to find, especially for so cheap.  Also it's crazy heavy for a toy lol I usually keep an eye out for gaming figures if I can find them.  My buddy was selling a bunch of the GIJOE-like Street Fighter figures at the Flea Market, but I think most people looking at them just though they were just normal Joes lol

Yeah, it is a huge and heavy figure. Appropriately intimidating :)

The Street Fighter figures I had were the SOTA Toys ones from the mid 2000’s. They were really cool figures but I was downsizing my collection so they needed to go. I do remember seeing the GIJoe SF figures in stores but, I always thought they looked a little dorky compared to other awesome GIJoe figures. I do still have a Vega (Claw) figure from Resaurus somewhere in storage...

That kingdom hearts figure looks butt ugly.

The face is a little silly for sure, but the general look is fine overall, so I don't mind it.  I'm only grabbing a couple of the figures for the heck of it.  Could get Axel kinda cheap, but his face is extra rough I feel and put me off too much, unless I can stumble across him for like 5 bucks someday.

You need that mega man 1 figure.

And whats this about a Mega Man 1 figure? I'm generally not a fan of NES Mega Man, more so Mega Man X and Legends.

That's not everything, either, just what was small and easy to put up on a small shelf I happened to have.

Whoo! That's good to know- that means all 3 of my FF8's are complete. (I bought Irvine & Laguna back in the day.)

I've been seriously looking over my shelves recently, trying to decide where I could put a new figure. I don't buy them much these days, but I found out about this Hatsune Miku x Space Invaders (https://www.play-asia.com/vocaloid-hatsune-miku-taito-station-uniform-ver/13/70cigl) figure, and it's very much my kind of thing (I play a lot of retro & rhythm games.) I missed the preorders, but I'm hoping I can get one on release.

Cool, I love toy collecting. Amiibos have been my crack lately even if I don't try to get them all. I love finding all the Animal Crossing amiibos on steep clearance sales XD. I have 8 of those total now. I'm also considering hunting down the world of Nintendo toys for Zelda and Splatoon. Maybe the old Harvest Moon Plushies? I have a couple of the small pre-order ones for SoS. I don't have flea markets around where I live rn so I have to be pretty purposeful to get anything.

That Sora though, omg, I can never buy American figures cause they always have to worst faces.

Funny enough, the best KH toy I've bought, is the Toon Sora one from the retro world in Kingdom Hearts 2, because he looks almost exactly like he does the game lol

Yep; other than video games, my room is filled with figures/statues. Like many during their childhood, I had plenty of toys as a kid, but began collecting them seriously (meaning they're no longer "toys") in tandem with comicbooks, as they both went hand in hand. I have since downsized my figure collection due to space, and made some regrettable decisions in the process, but it still takes a big chunk of my room. I don't buy as much as I used to, but I like adding a new figure to my collection, so I occasionally tend to get one or two in the least likely of places, like at a Walgreens for example. I just recently got a BILLY curio cabinet from IKEA to complement my glass stand specifically to display my collection.

Also, while I'm at it, I'd like to give a tip since OP mentioned opening figures due to the yellowed blister: don't take a figure out of its packaging if you don't intend to display it. Yeah, I reckon yellowed blisters look butt-ugly, but they protect the figure from the elements and keep them fresh. Alternatively, if space is an issue, but you still have no plans to display a figure, you can take it out of the package and place it in a zip-lock bag, or use bubble-wrap, especially if the figure is considerable in size.

I was going to make a separate thread about being unhealthily addicted to Funko Pop figures but I think this might be the place  ;D.

Funko Pops have completely consumed me. I just came back from newbury comics and hot topic and I bought so many. The black souless eyes peering into my depth of what makes me human. Analyzing every mistake I ever made. Knowing my twisted perversions and keeping me in place as they are of the spirtual realm and I am only of physical property.  I love my gang of little plastic cute toys :D.   I think they go hand in hand with Amiibos and other game collection collectibles but they have diversity outside of games like TV shows, Movies and Prince.

My favorite thus far might be Mary Jane.  She is holding a little spiderman doll and I think it's adorable.  I have a spiderman that goes with it and it reminds me of happy times playing the spiderman game for PS4.  I will share a pic.

My most wanted pops are Ariana Grande, Lil Wayne and Harry S. Truman

I have a few Funko Pops, but I never really got into them.  I really only like them if they are designed in a way to not just be the same generic thing.  Like DVA and Reinhardt ones look cool because you can't see their faces or are mostly a vehicle.  The Godzilla one is cool because it's a mini Godzilla.  I got a Brotherhood of Steel one because it has a helmet.  Otherwise I mostly just ignore them though I had a few more that were gifts that I have actually been clearing out.

Something I picked up recently that I may or may not keep are these cool little WWF figures.  They are original ones from like 90/91 of all the classic sorts of WWF guys like Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Big Boss Man, The Mounty, Jake the Snake, etc...I got a flea market thing I'm doing next week, so I might just sell them there, but if I wasn't looking to earn some extra cash, I'd probably keep most of them as I use to be a big fan of the older era of WWF.

Hey Awesome thread! That House of the Dead figure looks nice, is it from the Palisades line?

I use to be heavy into collecting figures during the whole McFarlane / Spawn era, still have quite a bit but mostly in storage, only kept some of my favorite pieces out. I slowed down in collecting though, but recently I got a bunch of SHFiguarts Kinnikuman figures. I just had to get them since they were a huge part of my childhood.

I knew them as M.U.S.C.L.E. growing up in the US collecting the small rubber figures. Only later I learned of their Japanese name as Kinnikuman. I enjoy the games as well and import them when I can too :)

Yeah it says Palisades on it.  I'm not a huge House of the Dead fan, never had them growing up, just think they are kinda neat figures.  The one I opened unfortunately had a busted handle for the chainsaw and before i could fix it, I misplaced the handle, but the zombie can still hold it good enough lol  Not sure if I'm keeping the other one or not, but still a neat figure.

I also see Ted Dibiase, Brutus Beefcake, Hillbilly Jim, Roddy Piper, Demolition Smash...
Based on the pink singlet, I’d guess the one behind Hogan is Mr Perfect.
Is the one with the US flag shirt Hacksaw Jim Duggan?
Also, I’m not sure who the one behind Piper is. Maybe Rick Martel?
And on top I think is supposed to be Marty Jannetty, though the likeness is so bad it could be Shawn Michaels as well  :P

Yes, I’m a wrestling nerd  ;D I’ve been watching WWF/E since the late 80’s. I used to have a bunch of figures but I sold them all to free up space.

Sold at the fleamarket again this weekend and while I didn't find too much (And honestly I don't want to find too much, I'm trying to earn a few bucks lol), I did find these older GIJOE figures still in some nice packaging for cheap.  There were more there of this series, but they weren't of any good characters, so I passed on them.

Nice GI Joe pickups, Battle Armor Cobra Commander and Destro are always good finds. :)  That Laser Viper looks a bit different from what I remember.

GI Joes were my thing when growing up, my brother was more on Transformers and M.A.S.K. I still collect some to this day but mainly the newer line or the Sideshow collectable figures. I should take some updated pictures one day, always putting it off to do other things, heh.

Yeah I use to like GI Joe's as a kid, big fan of the ninjas in particular, especially Snake Eyes who's long been a favorite of mine.  Would love to get some of the high quality Snake Eyes figures, but can't afford to much of the high end stuff.  I'd rather grab more affordable things and I got my growing Godzilla collection to attend to lol

Stumbled across this and a 60's Godzilla vinyl figure at the comic shop and seeing that I don't have much in the way of non-Godzilla figures (I own most of the NECA ones), I had to pick up some classic Ghidorah as I'll probably be grabbing the new one from the upcoming movie too with that cheaper toy line coming out.

I'd imagine they'd be pretty cheap, currently. I got that during the Toys R Us shutdown for $20 with a few other things.
TRU shutting down had the effect of dumping a lot of World of Nintendo products onto eBay and Amazon for cheap.

New Godzilla for the shelf.  Wasn't initially going to get this one, the 60's/70's Godzilla is probably my least favorite era of Godzilla just in terms of pure Godzilla goodness (Not that there isn't stuff I enjoy), but the packaging and the figure itself was pretty good and the quality of the figure is a step up from previous ones.  I'll have to post a picture of my Godzilla shelf later as I currently have most of the Godzilla figures released from NECA short of maybe...2, not counting the one giant 2014 figure.

And here is my Godzilla shelf along with the couple Pacific Rim figures I have (The two sitting have to do that as NECA wasn't really that great with ankles on a lot of their figures lol) and below that is my anime stuff and my Godzilla/Kaiju movies.  Only missing 1954 Godzilla and 1985 Godzilla from NECA at the moment.  The two big ones, Godzilla and Gigan, were ones I got on a good deal from a buddy.

Walmart started getting in the cheap Bandai vinyl Godzilla figures, the same one of that Ghidorah that I showed before that I now overpaid on lol Was only able to get Mothra, but I'm gonna go looking for some of the others as there's a King Caesar, two Godzilla's, and I think something else. Took me abit to figure out hanging him, and while you can see the string in the picture, that's just from the camera flash and it's nearly invisible otherwise.

It's Godzilla day! Stopped by Walmart, saw that they had more of the Godzilla vinyls in stock and they started putting out King of the Monster figures.  None of the mini kaiju double packs, but I'll look for them later.  The Sora and Mega Man toy were from a buddy.

I just recently added this Sideshow Collectables Snake Eyes to my collection. Been wanting to get it for a while now to go along with my other Sideshow Cobra figures. ;D

He comes with 2 swappable heads, I'm currently using the Grill Visor since it's more iconic imo.

Thanks ;D The quality of these figures are nice, just need to be careful of the leather bits since they get brittle after a while. Just need to put a little oil on them from time to time.

The only 12" G.I.Joe I have is the SDCC exclusive Baroness. The figure quality is not that great, or at least it doesn't really look good, so I just keep it in the box. Fortunately, the box is really cool.

The Sideshow version of Baroness is going for some really high prices now, should have grabbed it when it fist came out, now the price has doubled...

It's been a pretty big Godzilla week.  First Godzilla: King of the Monsters released, I watched it again, loved the hell out of it and I also got the NECA Godzilla V2 in.  His joints are a tad wonky unfortunately, he stands a little weird and his hip/upper body joint is abit lose, but it's not the end of the world.

Also with that, I bought some little mini vinyl figs from a comic shop, with the bigger size ones for scale.  The mini figures are like 3" roughly.

Also saw that Books A Million got the Vinimates figures in, though only this one, I had to order the other two online and waiting on the other two exclusives in October.  Normally I wouldn't buy these types of figures, they are along the lines of a Lego mini-fig or Funko Pop figure, but I like their design enough.

And then yesterday I realized I should've just bought the un-evolved Shin godzilla with the others that were available, so grabbed the adorable little monstrosity.  Turns out size wise, he might be fairly close in scale to the actual sizing next to the 6" NECA Godzilla perhaps.  Maybe a little under-sized, but sorta close.

LEGO Minifigures Series 19 just came out. Pretty good assortment of characters this time around. Really surprised to see the Monkey King.  I picked up a few packs from GameStop and got the Fox Suit one, the Black Panther looking bounty hunter and the Explorer guy wearing the fedora.

Another day, another Godzilla toy.  Got two more of these I'm going to try and grab in October from a local comic shop that are exclusive to a Halloween event.

Along with that is the Overwatch toy I've been waiting for, which is Zarya, best character.  I don't really play the game anymore, but getting a legit Zarya toy that isn't a funko (I have the Zarya Funko), is nice and it's really good looking.  I feel it happens a lot that a figure doesn't match up to the original material, but this is good.  Probably the only one I'll grab, though Brigitte is a possibility and I'd love Reinhardt, but he's a tad bit of a pricey boy.

My current stranger things collection so far.  Not sure why the pic is so blurry :(  Baskin Robins Steve and Eleven vs Demo and Steve vs Demo are on another wall.  Not sure why the pic is so blurry.  I'm getting a few signed soon.   Been way more heavy into pops than games lately.  Maybe this thread is where I can share my hauls :).   I think pops are kinda toys.

I love stranger things pops.  :D

Awesome pick ups, really nice Koto Liger! ;D I haven't seen ZOIDS in years. I recently saw the normal Takara Tomy ones and it sparked an interest again... but no space or time...

I always liked the reptilian or insect worm types. I saw the Catalga and wanted it to get it but hesitated...

I have started on a reorganization of the toy room. Planning on limiting the scope by quite a bit. Managed to move the bed in a certain way to maximize wall space. I will have room for three more floating shelves at the most, so I have just a couple more things to get. The single shelf above the bed will be for misc items, but the rest are all planned out. I will take some pics in the coming month when I get some progress made.

Finished up the Isopod over the weekend. ;D

Really like how the metallic silver paint came out on the plastic. Had to coat it first with a layer of black paint first, then go over with Silver to get that shiny look.  :) Then went over it with some red rust weathering.

Another cool part is that it can roll up into a ball like a pillbug and all the parts inside neatly fold in together. Very intelligent design.

Finally found one of these over the weekend after looking for months.

Every Half Price Books around me had multiples of these but they wanted $15 for it. I wanted to wait for the price to drop a bit or use a coupon on it during one of their sale weeks. Then out of nowhere, they disappeared from every location (even locations in neighboring states up to 2 hours away).

I just happened to stop by the location nearest my house as we had some time to kill and I spied the box in a clearance bin. Took me the better part of a year to find one again but I did get it for half off.  ;D

I have both, but not boxed anymore. Powerhug is so much better in the color department. Almost beautiful, even for a toy that is otherwise quite terrible.

Thanks azure ;D

The Tamiya weathering kits is like a dry brush effect for the shading. It's kind of like a paste that can be applied by smudging or using a brush for any touch ups. Reminds me of a makeup kit, only diff is that this stuff stays on and is harder to remove :P.

I'm slowly working on the Triceradogos, finished spraying all the parts in the colors I chose, just need to apply the shadings and assembly. Went for a "Pale" Gold color instead of the yellow. I always preferred the metallic colors for anything robotic, gives off that steel and rusted look.

Heh and yeah, I'm super thankful for my wife putting up with my hobbies, video games and toys. I take care of my family things first, then I can still enjoy and dabble in my hobbies. ;D

While more obvious in hindsight, I wound up finding something that works fantastic for displaying my collections: Pot lid holders. I've got well over 200 vintage action figures and because of their age, being designed for peghooks over shelves, and just general lopsided weight, a good deal can't stand upright by themselves. So finding a nice support unit that doesn't take up additional shelf space as well as reducing risk of a chain reaction of things falling over is great in my book.

Now I only need to pick up like 10 more of the things to get everything upright.

Did the final touch ups on the Triceratops yesterday ;D I'm liking how the Oil and Gun Metal weathering worked on the lighter "Pale" gold. The textures really stands out on the lighter metallic colors.

Took a while to build and spray since there were so many more parts in this one, but fully enjoyed it. The ram on his head thrusts forward like a battering ram when the motor is switched on. His head opens up like a flower, it's really quite cool. I'm always amazed as how well they are designed and all the intricate parts nicely fold back into place with the gears and motor running without having me to put it back manually. :D

As much as I would like to, I unfortunately can’t afford the luxury of buying more figures and such – not because I can’t afford them, but due to limited space. I will on occasion find something that piques my interest and know can make space for, so I compromise. However, I often find myself between a rock and a hard place when I come across specials, clearances, or just a good price, so I often try to avoid the toy aisle whenever I’m at Walmart or any other store.

With that said, these are my latest toy-related pick ups since March.
*Pardon the bad quality; I’m not into taking pretty pictures.

Mario with Cappy World of Nintendo Figure (March)
Diamond Select Toys: Kingdom Hearts Action Figures, Series 2.5 - Limit Form Sora and Dusk (July)
Diamond Select Toys: Kingdom Hearts Action Figures, Series 2.5 - Dusk (August)

Bought these at a Walgreens near where I live. I like the World of Nintendo figures, but I’m picky with them; I’m still trying to find Wario from series 1-1. The Kingdom Hearts figures were on clearance, so I took Sora and Dusk with me, but left Donald. Then on another visit I noticed all the figures were gone except for a lone Dusk, so I took it home.

McFarlane Toys Collector's Club Exclusive Bag of Iszs - from The Maxx (March)

These little critters  complement The Maxx from Spawn: Ultra-Action Figures, Series 4 (https://i.imgur.com/sPYCC8T.jpg). As the name implies, they were an exclusive item that you could only get from McFarlane Toys Collector's Club, and because of that they used to demand upwards of $50-$70 in the secondhand market (crazy, I know). These were in my sight for some time, but I wasn't really serious about getting them until I found a good deal on eBay.

McFarlane Toys Color Tops #34: Commando Spawn (March)
McFarlane Toys Spawn, Series 33: The Age of Pharaohs - The Jackal King (May)
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 4: Exo-Skeleton Spawn (October)
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 5: Viking Spawn (October)
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 6: Battleclad Spawn (October)

Spawn has been one of my favorite comicbook characters ever since I picked up issue #44 back in March 1996, and discovering the action figures one day at a KB Toys didn’t help. My fixation with the character has caused me to amass a lot of the figures throughout the years, and although I’m getting them sparsely, I’m closing in to completing my collection. I used to be able to find Spawn figures quite easily on the wild, but nowadays the well has dried up, so eBay is my only option. The last three I got fairly recently in a lot, and I'm very happy with them; I've wanted to add Battleclad Spawn to my collection for a good while now. Admittedly the Exo-Skeleton Spawn I got isn't the version I'm looking for, but the blister has already yellowed and it's very brittle, so I'll keep it and possibly give it a paint job (hopefully I’ll do it 'cause I procrastinate like crazy).

Funko Pop! Movies: Ghostbusters - #747 Slimer with Hot Dogs (Translucent), Walmart Exclusive (September)

I, in all honesty, could care less about Funko Pops, but while at Walmart, I spotted this one and my eyes lit up. This guy is based on one of my favorite scenes, and while I find Funko Pops unappealing, I just had to take this one home with a beaming smile and all. There were two versions, but I liked this one quite better. I like that it’s #747.

Hopefully I'll have more to share soon.

Aside from a Godzilla thing here and there, I haven't really been buying much toys, but after the Mandalorian series and Jedi Fallen Order, it's really reinvigorated my love for Star Wars and so I decided to finally dive into Black Series 6" figures.  While I was too late for a Mandalorian figure right now, I was in time for some good Amazon sales on a bunch of the figures.  I've always been a huge fan of Trooper designs going all the way back to the classic Storm Troopers (Clone Wars are probably my least favorite designs, but not terrible), so I'm focusing entirely on Troopers and Mandalorian (show and just Mandalorians in general) related stuff and this is what I got right now.

This is the current group, though I might grab one or two more on Amazon as they are like under 15 bucks still and that's basically the price I'm looking at for these if I can.

Something I hope shows up in this 6" line is a Dash Rendar from Shadows of the Empire and a Clone Commando from Republic Commando.  I could see both happening maybe, as Darth Revan did get his own figure recently, so why not an important character from another Star Wars game, and the Clone Commando showed back up in Battlefront 2 this year.  One thing that gives me hope in Dash Rendar, is that apparently he's talked about in a canon book that came out from the Solo movie, so he wasn't lost in the EU purge.  Also seemed to be an easter egg in the Disney Infinity game, so that's double canon right there lol

Last update on these for awhile, I've basically run out of the cheap/on sale ones to get and I really shouldn't buy anymore lol There's a couple Mandalorian things I'll get eventually and I want that red Sith Jump Trooper because man the armor looks good in red, but I'm hoping to do a little hunting over the next month or so, maybe find some of the figures I need on the cheap and loose if I can get lucky.

Mandalorian has been gone for awhile unfortunately.  I got lucky that I pre-ordered the Heavy Trooper there and I stumbled on a new batch at Target that had Cara Dune (Not 100% sure if I was gonna keep her or not, but I'm loving the Mandalorian so much, I probably will).  Basically I just pre-ordered Mando and Baby Yoda at a toy website and one day in the next few months, I'll get them lol Except by then, they'll probably have another Mando for me to get because of course there's gonna be one in his better armor.

Some more early Xmas pick ups:

Revoltech Yamaguchi Series No. 120 - Jehuty & Vector Cannon

Even though I have yet to finish the first Zone of the Enders, much less played The 2nd Runner or The Fist of Mars, I love the mechas featured in the games, so it was natural for me to seek out these figures when I learned about them. This one comes with a really killer-looking add-on, but unfortunately I don’t have the space to display it out of the box in its full glory. It still looks cool on top of my shelf as-is, so I'm happy either way.

McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 4: Exo-Skeleton Spawn
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 4: Clown II
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 4: She-Spawn (October)
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 6: Superpatriot
McFarlane Toys Spawn Ultra-Action Figures, Series 6: Battleclad Spawn

New additions to my already extensive Spawn figure collection. She-Spawn actually comes from the lot I previously bought in October; I originally wasn’t going to keep her because I could’ve sworn I already had her in my collection, but as it turned out I actually didn’t (at least this version). I managed to get another lot that, of all things, was recommended by eBay through e-mail, and funnily enough, this lot also had another Battleclad Spawn, so I couldn't resist myself. I'm still debating whether reselling it to recoup some money or keep one sealed and display the other. The Superpatriot figure is inferior to the one released as part of the Legendary Comic Book Heroes toy line, but it looks corny and wacky and I love it, plus it's one of the figures from this series I wanted to get back in the day and never managed to find. The loose figures I got from the same seller who agreed to sell them at a reduced price if sent loose since their packaging had heavy wear. The Exo-Skeleton Spawn is the version I've wanted and Clown II is, for all intents and purposes, an upgrade (although I'm keeping the old one due to its sentimental value).

Diamond Select Toys: H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Idol Vinyl Figural Bank

Next is this motherlovin’ beauty; I have been hunting this one down for the longest time now and I’m happy to finally add it to my collection. All hail Cthulhu!

Simon Belmont and Incineroar amiibo

I'm not into collecting amiibos, but some do definitely pique my interest, and Simon is one of them. Incineroar was sort of/kind of an impulse buy, but he's one of my favorite Pokémon, so it's all good.

NECA: Godzilla (1954) [Clamshell]

While the first Godzilla movie I ever saw was part of the Heisei era, it being "The Return of Godzilla", a year or so after I saw the original, "Godzilla 1954", and it became one of my all-time favorites. The Walmart I frequent had these on special, so I didn't hesitate. I might pick another one, or wait and see if they markdown the other figures in the series.

Gundam Universe, Wave 1 - GU-02: XXXG-01W Wing Gundam
Gundam Universe, Wave 1 - GU-03: RX-0 Unicorn Gundam

Bought these at a Walgreens - they were the only two left and were on clearance, so it was a no-brainer; the price was just right. Almost everything in their toy aisle was on clearance, actually, but these two were the only interesting bits. I like mechas and Gundam, so hopefully I'll come across GU-01 (RX-78-2) to complete the set, then, maybe, move on to Wave 2.

Ain't that something; I start my pick up post with a mecha, and end it with two.

Back selling at the flea market today, so I managed to pick up a couple things from there too.  The Knifehead kaiju from Pacific Rim is from a friend as payment basically as I didn't have a kaiju from the movie yet, so it was something I definitely needed and I may be getting the Land Otachi from him too as future payment because they are dope monsters lol  Then I grabbed two Trendmasters Godzilla figures, which are my first ones from that old line of toys.  These apparently take batteries and have a button to press, but I don't know what they do, if they work, or even if I can figure out what batteries they are.  And finally a Scariff Stormtrooper which is a real cool look and the price was basically retail which is fine for a figure I'm not gonna find it in a store ever.

Picked up the new She-Hulk, I'm not really a Marvel collector, but I like my tough gals.  Also finally just grabbed the Jet Trooper.  I'm getting the red one eventually, but I've been seeing this one for weeks and I might as well just have it.

Just finished up a massive 2,500 piece Lego-style set, Cobi's Battleship Yamato. This thing is massive, sitting at about 3 feet long. Now I gotta find a good place to display it.

I'm not a collector per se, but I have a nerd shelf with some of my favorites on it. My favorite parts of it are my Uncharted shelf which has my Collector's Editions items, a replica Phurba dagger from the second game and the PS3 versions of the games as well. Also my Ninja Turtles shelf with the SDCC 1990 movie NECA figure set and the 2nd wave Gamestop exclusives of Shredder, the Foot, and Splinter.

I've been very tempted to grab the NECA Movie Leonardo, they are amazing looking figures, but I missed them in the initial Gamestop wave and I'm mostly waiting for them to do a single release again either at Walmart or their store.  I might even do a two pack and just sell the Donatello he comes with.

I'm not a toy collector myself, but can appreciate some good looking figures when I see them. Those Turtles figures are awesome!

And that dagger is cool, too. Never would have guessed Uncharted, though. It looks like the dagger from The Golden Child (love that movie).

Man do I want those NECA TMNT figures! I had a clear chance of getting all four during the initial 1/4 scale NECA release, but had to use the money for something else; and then the same happened when GameStop had the 7" set. I hate the fact I missed my chances with these, but I'm still hopeful I will eventually get either sometime in my lifetime. Gotta keep biding my time.

Since I don't want to gather up everything for a picture, I'm just gonna collage it with what I've generally picked up in the past month or so...

-Got my new Snake Eyes figure in the mail finally.  I'm still waiting on the Deluxe edition, but I probably won't open that one, so I wanted a standard to put on the shelf.
-Two more troopers for the shelf, I'm kinda starting to wind down my collecting for Black Series, I got most of what I want, i got a few more on pre-order, and from here on, it'll be much more minimal short of something super cool for The Mandalorian, or if they make a Republic Commando figure.
-I don't usually collect wrestling stuff, but I am a fan, and I liked some of these WWE/He-Man figures because they look like kinda classic old school wrestling figures and I want to grab a couple more if I can find them like the Ultimate Warrior, and perhaps another one or two down the road.  Basically I want the ones where I can take off all the armor and they just look like the classic wrestlers lol
-NECA is shutting down their Godzilla stuff, so I needed to get the Atomic Blast Shin in the movie poster box before that happens and got lucky to find it.
-Same for that was V2 Mothra, I don't really like the figure, but this was more for "completion" sake as I basically own all the NECA Godzilla figures other than the 2014 24" one they made.
-And I also got in the mail the last two new ones from NECA (Not counting the final variants for these two).  This Biollante one could be one of my favorite of the entire series, it has the weight of the 60's one they made, and all the proper articulation for the body and tail like that, but it's the Heisei era I love more.  The 2003 one is also good despite the more limited neck stuff.
-And finally, found two more of the Godzilla mini vinyls and actually my first Anguirus figure which is cool.

According to some outlets, these figures were meant to be released this month, but still nothing. I've been checking Walmart's website non-stop, and nothing; I even chatted with a representative and she told me she was aware of the figures, but that she didn't know when the figures would be available. However, yesterday I went to the Walmart nearest where I live and the guy I asked told me they got four packs, 2/2, and that they were sold in about an hour. I asked when they would expect more, and was told the same, that they didn't know when they'd be available again. This sucks mondo dook!

Yeah, I've gotten semi-obsessed with these NECA figures - they've also done version from the cartoon and the Turtles in Time game! - and have been checking constantly.  If anyone runs across an extra Raph and Casey 2-Pack (or any of the others really) I'd be willing to pay you back for them if you picked them up and shipped them my way.

Yeah, I'm aware of the other versions, which look really cool, but I mostly want these since I originally intended to get the 1/4 scale ones, and would still if I found them at a decent price. The Casey Jones with Raphael pack looks killer, too, so I wouldn't mind getting it if I were to find it.

Anyway, I hope you can find them as well, Cartagia.

A good thing for the NECA movie TMNT figures, is that with Toka and Razar, after the disastrous Walmart launch they had with other stuff, they are apparently going to do the smart thing and have them go up on the NECA website for pre-order so people have an actual chance at getting them.  NECA shipping makes them a little more pricey than they would be elsewhere, but a few extra bucks to guarantee getting one isn't too bad.  I'm just waiting on them to re-release Leonardo in a single pack, because I kinda just like collecting certain versions of him.

While I hate that Toho or Playmates bumped NECA out of the Godzilla license, and I was worried that all of the Playmate figures would be absolute trash based on the classic figures they tried to release which are all almost objectively garbage (The Final Wars Gigan being the one exception).  That being said, I think these 6" figures are actually pretty alright.  Kong has nice simple articulation where he should, the Skullcrawler is a simple character, but mostly functions okay (Needed movable feet to me, but I'm just glad to have a Skullcrawler figure at all), and the Godzilla isn't any different from the 11" one, but it's fine for what it is.  They also feel better than the other ones I was talking about, because they are a mixture of hard plastic and a softer and I think maybe slightly heavier plastic, so the Kong in particular feels much nicer overall.  Not bad for 10 dollar toys. I just need to grab the Warbat and I'll have all 4 of the currently released creatures.

Gonna pass on the 11" Godzilla and Kong for now as the Godzilla is not much different from last year's Jakks figure, and the Kong has almost no articulation to it and is weirdly black furred rather than a dark brown.  There was a big leak of all of the Playmate figures awhile back, so there might be a few more I'll grab later on, I just won't talk about them here since they are spoilery for the movie.

I had made the decision to get this as soon as I could, as I regret not getting either the UCS Y-Wing or the Voltron set when I could, as I dilly-dallied too long and now they got for several hundred above MSRP. Once built, this will be my 4th largest set, behind the Saturn V rocket, the Battleship Yamato, and the Starship Enterprise.

For anyone that does a lot of toy collecting, you know that if you got multiple things you are looking for, it can be hard to find everything you want, even if you go to more than one stores, but for me, between two Targets, I got everything I was looking for.

I got the final two NECA Godzilla releases, which are just repaints of '93 and '03 Godzilla, along with the 2014 Godzilla re-release in the movie poster box that I only found out recently existed as they didn't seem to promote it at all.  I now have the entire NECA Godzilla collection, though technically only missing the double sized 2014 one that I'll grab someday down the road as it's not super important for my collection.

Also got the new NECA King Kong, which seems to be their kaiju replacement after losing the Godzilla license, so hopefully they do more stuff like this as the Kong is awesome, really well articulated and the design is generally original, sorta feeling like a mixture of the old 1933 original and like Skull Island Kong...I wonder if NECA can get the Gamera license lol

Picked this up for super cheap on sale on Gamestop last week, I really only wanted it for Zarya so I could have her with the regular one, but this was set was always pretty pricey because of it at like 50 bucks or something, but the toys have been dropping in price and going on clearance for like a year now, and finally the Gamestop stuff dropped down super cheap and I got this for like 16 bucks with shipping.  I'll probably just sell off the other figures whenever I get back to selling at the flea market or conventions, though I might keep DVA, not 100% sure.  I kinda wish they hadn't ended this toy line so I could've got an Orisa and Brigitte, but oh well.  Maybe they'll revive it when Overwatch 2 comes out.

It's weird that for how many Star Wars Black Series figures I have now (Which is too many), that I didn't have a single Boba Fett, my original Star Wars love.  He was the epitome of style over substance, fitting into a long line of characters like that (Master Chief, Doom Slayer, etc...), but his design was always so good and finally I have him.  It just took awhile for them to re-release him, but now I got him and I'm happy.  I'll post a new picture of my Star Wars shelf once I get it setup as figures keep toppling over and it's getting annoying lol

And finally got my shelf put back together.  This is all the Star Wars Black Series I got and I don't have plans for too much more.  I know there's a couple I'm missing like a Sand Trooper from the original series, and I do have two more on pre-order right now with the Beskar Mando and Mandalorian Super Commando and the Mandalorian Armorer was leaked, but there isn't too much else I super need or want.  Like if they put out a Republic Commando I'm there, and I'm sure there's gonna be something from the new Mandalorian season I want, but I'm pretty happy with this collection right now.

I would love a new Boba Fett with completely redone modeling and articulation.  The one I just got is nice visually, but you can tell its based on the older Black Series designs as it's kinda stiff and awkward to pose and will have a regular paint job as this is the Kenner colors.

So, I gotta ask, what are your thoughts on the Black Series Child?  People online are losing their shit over it, because it's so small, but that's precisely why I love it.

However, I do think they should drop that price point on it.

Looks like a Christmas ornament.

Seeing as the figure is 1.1/1.2in, I think they could have easily packed it in with another figure in the series. This thing is currently the talk of the town, so I'm not surprised with the move.

Anyway, I know the question wasn't directed at me, but just wanted to chime in.
Title: Re: The Toy Collectors
Post by: kamikazekeeg on September 17, 2020, 07:36:17 pm
Size wise, it's totally fine, it's meant to be in scale with the other figures and I wouldn't want it any other way.  Price wise, 10 bucks is definitely over-priced, probably should've had the hover cart with it too, and it probably should've just been put with another figure, but it is also an issue of Hasbro likely not even knowing about the character till the show came out.  There was no way to put it with the original Mandalorian release and the Beskar Mandalorian is coming out around now, so it made sense to release it on its own at the time it came out.

Seeing that the more reasonable price would likely only be a few bucks difference, it's really not much to fuss over.

*EDIT*
Just got shown this toy, but apparently this is some more kid friendly toy line they are doing, but it comes with a child and hover cart that is almost exactly in scale with Black Series.  I'm very much considering grabbing it if I can find it at it's normal price just for that lol

I've got them on display on shelves:

I wish I had enough space in the house to show off everything rather then having them stacked deep on the shelves. But as I don't have infinite space, my core display shelves go to the Lego and Nendoroid collections, as they're a bit more aesthetically pleasing. Though it is a pipe dream to set aside enough to properly remodel my gaming room and library room into a proper, unified presentation instead of just accumulating shelves piece by piece.
Title: Re: The Toy Collectors

My favorite thing I've seen for how people deal with boxed stuff like this in these kind of amounts for boxed figures, is to make their display look like store shelving, where it's got the bottom and top shelves and then the middle is all hangers, so it's like you are walking into a Toys R Us or something.  It doesn't really make it easier to see stuff, but it's such a good look if you can get like legit store shelves from like a closing business for it.

Cool collection though, there's a part of me that digs packaged stuff like this, but I also love to pose and have characters standing around in different poses and kinda mingling together, which is why I stick with loose more.

I forgot to post this here when I took it, as I was doing it for a Godzilla group I'm in, but I took the time to setup the nearly complete collection of NECA Godzilla's.  This is every regular figure (Though Rodan is not shown, because it has loose wing issues that I only fixed today, and I haven't opened my 8 Bit Godzilla, it's still in the box), and all the poster boxes they've made as they had to shut down after losing the license to Playmates, which is such a shame as the Biollante and Tokyo SOS Godzillas are up there as some of the best they've done to me.  The only figure I don't own out of the NECA line is the 24" long 2014 release of Godzilla, which I'll try to buy some day, as I'm hoping to find it when I get back to going to the flea market or conventions, as it's not a very pricey figure loose, maybe 30 to 50 bucks which is very reasonable.

I redid my whole Godzilla collection after I did this picture, so I'll post up a new shot of that eventually as there's a couple details I have to finish in regards to how I display the boxes and getting all the figures to fit lol

Looks like a vintage toy store!  ;D

Really been going crazy on the NECA turtles lately.  I need to get some kind of glass display case so I can keep them out of the box.

More NECA Goodness.  Apparently they are both kind of hard to find.

I got the Snake Eyes and the NECA Evil Dead 2 figures fairly recently.

Ghostbusters Plasma Series (https://i.imgur.com/1y9asyA.jpg)

...And I also got another set of these.

Walmart's "Deals for Days" has been good so far.

More pick ups from Walmart (pictures are taken from the Net):

I still dislike Funko Pops, but this one looks rather cool, and my genwunner side really couldn't say no—I was actually considering getting this one from Walmart's website, so I'm glad I didn't because I got it at a better price.

The original MOTU figures were one of the many toys I grew up with, so when I went to the toy aisle and saw these two, I picked them up on a whim. They also had Battle Cat, but the price was a bit more than I'm willing to pay for it, although I'd like to get it eventually. In all honesty, though, I'm dreading now going on a frenzy and wanting to collect the rest of the series...and any other that comes after.

Got a few things in lately, most of it being stuff I've had pre-ordered for abit.  Cutting down on my toy buying for abit, so not much else planned for a little while, but here's what I got recently

Star Wars stuff has been good, I got the Electrostaff Purge Trooper, which I'm all for a black armored trooper, though the effects for the staff are terribly designed. They don't actually attach anywhere, they sorta just have to sit carefully, which is really annoying.  Got my Armorer and Beskar Mandalorian, probably the last of the Mandalorian stuff I'll buy for awhile until they release something from the new season I really want.  And today I got the long pre-ordered Super Commando Mandalorian figure.  Honestly, it's not a good figure, visually it's a cool design, but it's on the old Jango Fett body and is kinda shit for posing and I think its leg is slightly short on one side, but the paint and helmet look cool, so I'll probably keep it.

And then I picked up the Blue Variant for the Starboost Iron Man from the Avengers game.  I don't really want variants, but I think its such a cool suit and color, I figured why not.

And then I got myself the Retro Wave Snake Eyes they just put out.  I don't really collect much GIJOE, but I had the 25th Anniversary one and I thought I'd get this one to to go with that as I have a very small selection of Snake Eyes stuff...

Damn! That Super Commando Mandalorian figure looks awful. The other three look slick, though.

The Iron Man does look cool, but in all honesty I want to get that Marvel Legends wave just for the Mr. Fixit BAF—the best Hulk. Walmart stocked on them recently, but when I got there all they had left was a Captain America.

Speaking of Walmart, they had the Kenner Classics line for The Real Ghostbusters, which are actually exclusive to the store. Just like with MOTU, these were also a series I grew up with as a kid, so I didn't hesitate picking them up. I love having these, they recreated everything to a T, it's like a trip down memory lane. I hope I can find Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and Green Ghost (aka Slimer) to complete the set.

Added a little bit of everything over the past few weeks.

Grabbed some more vintage figures to the collection, namely some Episode III stuff.

Also got a few of the bigger, more posable stuff. These ones won't stay in the box once I figure out a good spot for them.

And I got some more Lego sets for that backlog. I honestly like the Ninjago lineup as it's like 80% giant robots, which are great for lining the shelves with.

Finally, I've snagged up a fair amount of board games on sale to add to that collection. Only had a chance to play Fallout Shelter and Pandemic Hot Zone out of those so far. With some epic bad luck, we managed to lose one game of Pandemic in 3 turns.

Me too. Ghostbusters were a big deal for me as a kid, just like the Turtles, and still are a big deal. I missed out on the re-release of the classic TMNT figures, so I sort of feel redeemed by getting these.

Not particularly interested in that, but I've been trying to get other stuff from their website for weeks now and I just can't. Their website is just utter trash.

Last Walmart "Black Weekend" pick ups from November:

The collectibles area in the electronics section was flooded with too many freaking Funko Pops!; however, they also had a bunch of NECA figures, but this was the only one that caught my eye...especially given it was the last one. so I picked it up without hesitation.

Captain America and Thunderstrike I actually got on December 2nd. No Iron Man in sight, unfortunately, which means Mr. Fixit is missing his left right arm. I must say in all honesty, though, this wave leaves a lot to be desired—even the BAF itself is hit or miss given its various inconsistencies. Of the whole set, the BAF aside, Falcon and Kang are the only that stand out the most, and actually happen to be the only two I'm actually considering keeping alongside Mr. Fixit.

Continuing to get some more vintage toys:

With the 3PO & R2, I'm down to just one concept figure left (Concept Luke Skywalker, another convention exclusive), then I've got the entire Mcquarrie line of figures. I'm also laughing at how pathetic that Thomas Riker figure is, especially with him being one of the rarer figures of the Star Trek line. The reason is that, as he's a clone of Will Riker, it's pretty obvious that they'd do the easy route and just repaint one of the Will Rikers, which they did. However, they chose the one with the battle damage on his uniform, and when doing the repaint, didn't paint the battle damage. So, it looks like his shirt is torn open to reveal that he's wearing an identical shirt underneath that. He at least has different accessories as Will, but nothing actually unique to the figure. I can't harp on Thomas too badly though, as he was a catalyst in me becoming the collector I am today by the virtue of being the very first rare card I got in a pack of collectible cards.

Also added more to the board game collection. My Shelves dedicated to Risk and it's variants are well over capacity now.

And finally more stuff for the Lego backlog. I hate that I have a Lego backlog, moreso now that it's now at 50 sets. But, I need more shelves. So for now, many wait until I can do a full remodel of my game room area.

Some unexpected "pick ups" courtesy of an eBay seller that threw them in a recent lot I bought. They're loose, but they still have that fresh "like new" smell that leads me to believe that either the boxes were not in the best shape or the seller thought the packaging wouldn't survive the trip given all the cushion was already taken up by the games. Either way, gift horse, so...

These are from the Power Rangers Lightning Collection series, and from left to right we have: Cybervillain Blaze from Beast Morphers, Shadow Ranger from S.P.D., and Magna Defender from Lost Galaxy.

It's been a good while since I last saw a Power Rangers show, but these look really nice. I'll be going over my room soon to do some reorganizing, so I'm definitely going to display these three.

I've been tempted to pick up the classic Mighty Morphin team as they look great in this line, but I'm holding off since it's not super easy to get a few of them right now, and I'm sorta hoping they do the 1995 movie figures as I really like their armored look.

The Lighting collection line has its issues, but overall they are very solid figures for the price point. Great proportions and detail for the most part to the original suits, sans some bad apples. Hasbro avoids the roided out muscle look that BoA always seem to go for as well, which I'm grateful for.

Most of the figures I've come across look really cool; I've actually considered getting some of the figures in the series, but I never pull the trigger on any, but after getting these I will definitely reconsider whenever I come across any of them again.

Walmart is constantly stocking up on these, so I'll be on the lookout...

Keep an eye on Amazon as they've been running quite a few sales on the Lightning stuff lately. The Jason, Goldar, and Drakkon I got a while back were only $12 apiece from a deal of the day. They do have a Tommy (Zeo Red Ranger), Goldar, and a few others on sale right now. I'll probably grab up a Ranger Slayer on my next payday to go with my Drakkon.

I had never really noticed how cool the Mudtroopers look from the Solo movie, but when I went looking to see if they had a figure, they didn't, but since Han dresses up as one, I was able to get this for price that was pretty close to retail.  This is gonna be one of the only few non-troopers/Mandalorians I'll probably be buying for collection, since I can basically just never show that it's Han Solo lol

Nope, not a custom, it's the Han Solo (Mimban) release from Black Series.  And I would love to get 1:6 scale stuff, but that's too pricey for me lol If I had that kind of money, I'd be buying SHMonsterArts Godzilla stuff lol I'm still so bummed that NECA had to stop making their Godzilla's, because while their quality isn't as good as SHMA, they were similar size and looked good enough for me, at like a 5th of the price.

Space is a big factor when collecting these type of figures, so there's that. Many of them do look awesome, but like you said, they're pricey and I just don't have the space—they're just beyond the scope of what I like in my collection.

This just shipped, so I should have it soon, but generally I don't collect Transformers, I think they are awesome, it's just not another line of toys I need to collect, though it wouldn't be a lot I'd get into, I'm only kinda into a few characters.  As a kid I had the Gen 2 Megatron toy, it's a real awesome toy, very limited compared to the toys these days, but it was a pretty big figure and the tank mode is awesome.  I wish I still had it and I plan to buy it again someday, but for now, this new representation of it will fill that space.

I even have a small green/purple tank for what turned out to be a character called "Brawl", though its not his original color, so not usre if it came out before or after G2 Megatron.

Yeah, that's pretty much the same for me as well; I used to also have a bunch of Transformers growing up, and still like the franchise/series for most part, but I'm more into mechas. When I saw Voltron for the first time as a kid, Transformers pretty much became an afterthought. Beast Wars did, however, revitalize my interest in the series.

For a little added discussion talk, what are some toys that you are dying to get for yourself? And I'm not really talking like you had dumb money and you could just buy all the crazy expensive Hot Toys Figures, but more stuff you are actually wanting to get, but maybe you haven't found them out in the wild or the prices you want.

For me, a series I desperately want more of, are the Dragon Ball Movie Collection Series Figures.  These are like early 2000's toys I believe, but they are like real tall figures, with some of the biggest reaching like 9 inches or maybe even taller, and they have kinda more realistic detailing rather than being super cartoon accurate colors like the recent Dragon Ball Stars toys that are common now.  I had a couple that I ended up clearing out years ago, but I got a real good deal a couple years back on basically the full Collection 2 set.  I showed them off a little while back when I showed my toy shelves.

The set I really want right now are the Collection 1 set, with Cooler, SSJ Goku, Piccolo, and Slug.

There's a bunch more also, like the early waves are all in these cool rounded front boxes, but after like a few waves, they moved to more squared boxes, but I just love how cool they look on a shelf as they are sorta like the Todd McFarlane Spawn figures, where they don't have a ton of poseability, but a lot of great detail.  When I'm able to get back to conventions, I'm hoping to find some.  They are kinda pricey to find if they still have the box, but I got the four I showed off for like 10 to 20 bucks a piece, which is what I'm generally looking for on them.

For me it's easily the larger Lego sets and the like, in particular the UCS Lineup for the Star Wars sets. It's only been recently where I've felt comfortable dropping over $100 on a Lego set, but I can't go back and easily grab the sets that I missed out on when I was making less money, because those sets just got even more expensive. I'd love to get a UCS Y-Wing or a Voltron set, but I don't love the thought of paying at least $350 for one.
And that's not even factoring all the sets I dreamed about when I was a kid. If they rereleased a bunch of the old BlackTron or Space Police stuff, I'd be all over that. They remastered a bunch of the older Ninjago sets, why can't they do that with their other lineups?

Yeah I feel like they are really missing out by not re-releasing the old stuff they did, like there was a pirate set I believe I remember having, or I had a couple of those wild scifi space sets from the 90's when I was a kid with their neon green/yellow transparent parts.

The Movie Collection series was hit or miss for me; I think the villains are the better-looking figures.

Anyway, for me is mostly Spawn, which for the most part getting figures was comfortably inexpensive, but most have gone up in price lately. Quite recently McFarlane did a Kickstarter campaign for a "remaster" of the original figure from the first series, but unfortunately I came to know about it literally a week after the Kickstarter ended. Suffice to say I'm shit out of luck on that one, so I'm not going to even entertain the idea, unless I were to come across someone who for whatever reason has it and is clueless about its value...which is highly unlikely. Aside from Spawn, I'd like to also get my hands on those elusive NECA TMNT figures that Walmart.com seemingly never had in stock.

To be honest, this is something I often think about, and if it were for me I'd probably end up trying to get all the figures I used to have as a kid, or at the very least the ones that I used to like the most. But truth be told, that'd be overkill due to limited space and the fact I'd be letting nostalgia take the wheel, which I'm sure I will end regretting. Nonetheless, there are definitely a slew of select figures from my childhood that I'd like to "get back", like from TMNT and a few from Thundercats for example.

These aren't toys, but I'm not gonna open up a whole new card thread for just this, since I'm not someone that collects cards any more (Use to collect the Dragon Ball Z TCG back in high school, still got most of the player cards), but I've been watching a bunch of card opening videos lately, mostly just Pokemon, and it's become a big thing lately.

It's fun watching people pull out the super rare cards and I love watching folks who get original era cards and are opening those, trying to find these crazy rare cards that could be worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.  I didn't buy these for that, it just reinvigorated my love for card opening and collecting, I didn't do a lot of Pokemon cards as a kid (I was mostly just into the 90's games and some show stuff), but I do like Pokemon in general, so it seemed like it could be fun, opening cards, doing the three card shuffle, guessing the energy, and then seeing if I can't get something rare or just a Pokemon I like.

Funny enough, my sister also got into watching people do this abit and she was interested to, so for our Christmas Eve entertainment, we are nostalgia tripping by watching a movie and opening up Pokemon Cards.  Got some brand new stuff from the store, an assortment of the newest series that came out this year I believe, and then my buddy actually came into a couple Sun & Moon era cards, and these themed deck sets and gave them to me cheap.  The deck sets don't have special cards or anything, but just more cards to open for the heck of it.

Same—the thing is, though, that I actually bought both years ago from a Japanese seller, but they ended up getting returned because the seller messed up my address, then refused to send them again. The value for both figures have gone up since then, so the only way I realistically can envision getting them is either in some sort of lot or perhaps from someone without a clue of what they're selling.

I was initially holding off on getting Power Rangers, because I kinda missed out grabbing them when they first released, so if I couldn't get Green and White, I wasn't really wanting the rest as much, but Hasbro restocked both towards the end of the year so I jumped on them.  Probably gonna grab the others whenever I can get them on a good sale down the road as I don't want to spend full price on them.  I also grabbed Pumpkin Rapper on clearance the other day, though not sure if I'll keep that one or not.

A buddy just got me the Turtles in Time Leonardo for Christmas.  I'd probably have a bunch of the Turtles, but I really don't want to start a new collection lol

Also these Lightning Collection figures are great.  I've only really been collecting Hasbro figures for the past few years, mostly Star Wars Black Series, which are generally quite limited, either from old design or because they got a lot of armor, and the few Legends I have sorta fall in line with that, and the one GIJOE Classified I got was Snake Eyes, though unfortunately it has bum leg and waist joints so it's too floppy for good posing.   With the Green and White Ranger though, their sleek design and good articulation make for a super quality figure.  Like I never thought I'd get it so Tommy looks like he is actually using the flute dagger.  It almost makes me want to get Lord Drakkon and the Ranger Slayer along with the rest of the team, even if they are comic creations.

Yeah, I'm limiting myself to just their TMNT and Back to the Future lines, with only a couple of the horror figures.  Otherwise I'd be dropping entire paychecks on them.

One of the things I got for Christmas was a little nanoblock set for a pair of chihuahuas. I had never really got any of these before as I always felt Lego was enough and I had heard about how finnicky these could be. But since I had a set now, I figured I should at least get a recommended set of tweezers for them and because I don't want to get a tweezers for just one set, I ordered a few more sets. Well, I had fun building them, and the tweezers really do help, so I've ordered more.
So far I've made these:

Hard to believe that that castle is 500 pieces. Between what I built, the castle is the favorite, followed by the dogs, and finally the characters. The characters at that size are just so fragile; Usopp just falls apart if you so much as breathe on him (so technically in character). They also wind up looking a little too Funko Popish for my tastes.

I've also got a Gyarados and a Eva Unit 01 waiting to be built too. The Eva Unit's box is also designed to be able to be converted into a display stand, so that's really neat.

Not my cup of tea, but the castle does look nice. And I agree, the characters do look a tad like miniature Funko Pops.

Nice, a friend told me that the Super 7 Ultimates Leonardo was back in stock on BBTS and that it would probably be pretty hard to find after this, so I grabbed him for my collection of Leonardo's as I'm pretty sure this one and the NECA movie Leonardo are the two best ones out there, though I still need to get a NECA movie Leonardo.  Should get my Super7 Leo by next week.

The new TMNT Loot crates were announced, and crate #1 is gonna have Danny from the TMNT movie.

Crate #2 is Agammon from Tournament Fighters, 3 is some kind of Shredder variant from the comics, and 4 is Don as Batman.  There's going to be a bonus Scrag, if you (like me) pre-order every box.

While I'm not the biggest DC comics fan, there's stuff I enjoy, but it's mostly just Batman I'm into and I actually don't have a Batman toy, there weren't a whole lot I was super interested in but this whole Dark Knights: Metal/Death Metal thing going on with DC is pretty badass, so I had to grab the Death Metal Batman with scythe.  The guitar variant was kinda cool, but I didn't like how goofy it was (Apparently it's Plastic Man lol), especially with the red, so I went with the scythe version and I'm actually gonna try to see if I can find a 1/12th scale guitar I might like to have him jamming out.  I might also grab the McFarlane Arkham Knights Batman as that one also looked good.  I had an issue with some of McFarlane's early designs for this line being a tad wonky, but I saw that one at Best Buy today and I might go back to grab it.

Finally added something to my Nendoroid collection after quite some time. Picked up a Hermione and a Cuddle Team Leader. Now they're having a standoff on my shelf:

Also, Amazon had a bunch of the Dragon Stars figures for at least half off as a Deal of the Day, so I picked up a Piccolo, 1st form Frieza, and SSJ4 Vegeta. They haven't arrived yet though.

Bummer I missed that deal, I actually might've grabbed some Dragon Stars figures myself.  I only have a couple, but there's a few I'd like to get.  I have a few of the model kit figures which are cool, but are so pricey to get now, so I'm mostly dropping them and will probably just pick up a few of the ones I want from the Dragon Stars line instead.  I had a handful of them at one point, but I literally only bought them to build the Berserker Kale figure lol I believe the only one I kept was Golden Frieza.

*EDIT* I randomly checked Amazon to see what figures were up, maybe I'd catch a deal again down the road and the deal of the day was still up for a handful of figures for another 10 minutes lol I bought myself SSJ Gohan, Piccolo, SSJ4 Vegeta, and First Form Frieza. Thanks for the heads up lol

Turned out to be a very Dragon Ball week as after I picked up those 4 on sale on Amazon, I ended up popping by a Gamestop I'm not usually at and they had a 20% off toys, so I got Cooler for 20 bucks, but also they had the World Tournament stage on clearance for 20 bucks.  I don't usually like to pick up big stuff like this, I don't tend to ahve the room, but this fits perfectly on my Dragon Ball shelf and can display all the figures I have.

Honestly this Dragon Stars line is abit shit, the legs on both Frieza's and Piccolo are pretty jank and Gohan just barely stands, it's not very great articulation, but if I can get more for like 10 bucks a piece, then I'm okay with that.  They visually are pretty alright though.

Gonna actually get rid of my model kit figures I have, SSJ Goku, SSJ Blue Vegeta, #17, #18, Trunks, 4th Form Frieza, and SSJ2 Gohan, so if anyone is interested in those for their collection, I'm probably looking at selling them off for like 10 to 15 bucks a piece and they come with almost all their extra bits.

I either forgot or didn't know this existed, but when I went to buy myself a new shirt from Fangamer, I saw they had an articulated figurine for Mettaton EX and I was all on board with that, I mean this is actually balancing itself, you don't see this happening with Hasbro figures usually lol It's not a deep amount of articulation, but mixing basic articulation with bendable arms is pretty great and was a nice little splurge on my part as I'm cutting back on stuff right now.

Hit up a toy show that I thought was going to be a little podunk affair and instead it was this MONSTER show with several hundred attendees. It was staged at a fairgrounds so I figured they rented one of the small buildings. NOPE...5 buildings and the largest ones on the grounds at that. They were filled to the brim with tables (from 12 different states according to the flyer).

What I thought was going to be a quick little in-and-out affair turned out to us spending almost the whole time there trying to make sure we hit every building and seeing just about every table. I never would have guessed the show would be so big and have so many attendees.  :o

Most of the stuff was out of my price range but I managed to find some things for myself and others. I picked up two Bandai Pokemon Model kits for my friend's son. I had found him ones of Pikachu and Eevee  previously at GameStop that he took a liking to so I knew he'd like these new ones. I know one was Ho-oh but can't remember the other. It's a Legendary I think from Pokemon White. His dad is into Megaman and found him a Funko Pop of one he didn't have yet (8-bit version). I know there's color variants of the one I picked up but they're pricey.  :-X

Found myself a Mickey Mouse gumball machine and some Snoopy figurines/knick-knacks. Even though it was a toy show, I was hoping to find some comic/trade vendors. There were a few and I found a couple of trades for decent prices.

While there was plenty of Transformers/GI Joe and such from my youth there, a lot of it was well out of my price range. I finally got to see the GI Joe Aircraft Carrier out of the box and in-person for the first time (had previously only seen it in pictures). That was a treat.  :)

I always had an appreciation for the more obscure toys from the late 70's/early-to-mid 80's, a lot of which I didn't see hardly any of while I was there.  :-\ I was on the lookout for a few things such as Crystar, Starriors, Max Steele Robo Force, Dungeon & Dragons, and Visionaries. Of those lines, the one I saw the most was D&D. I saw Starriors at one table but saw nothing for Crystar or Visionaries. One table had something for Max Steele which I picked up.

Has the box and mini-comic but not inner packaging. It has a cosmetic issue but that's due to age so not worried about that. Best part it was only $20 so I didn't have to break the bank.  :D

I'm not a huge wrestling toy collector, I only own a few of the Masters of the WWE Universe figures, because you strip them out of the armor and you got just real good looking sorta retro toys with better articulation, but I'm a huge Macho Man fan, always was my favorite and I gotta buy this new Macho Man.  The chase version of this, has the exact arm bands he had on, so hopefully I can find that, though I imagine that'll be hard and expensive to get, so might just end up with the standard.

Continuing my beginning Batman collection with the face mouth covered variant for Batman Beyond.  I went with this one as I was never a particularly huge fan of Batman Beyond's design where the whole cowl is form fitted to his mouth, which looked weird and never quite understood how that worked, but here, they gave him a mouth cover, maybe it's a design from the comics or something? Either way, it makes the design look way better to me.  I hate that they are releasing variants of figures in separate packs right next to each other, because I want the jet blasts and flight holder from the other version.  It's a really crappy thing that McFarlane has been doing with this line.  Neat figure though, I also plan to get the Batman Beyond Batwoman when that releases.

I have actually held a few of these with the intern of buying them, but I always second-guess myself because I honestly don't like the build of most figures. I mean, Cooler looks cool, so does Janemba to some extent, but the rest are "meh" at best if I'm being perfectly honest.

Gogeta came from GameStop and the Super Shredder from Walmart, which happens to be the first TMNT-related figure I managed to score at Walmart after looking for so long; I've heard, as well as read online that some employees have been hiding/stashing certain items away, particularly the NECA TMNT stuff, for other people - friends/relatives, probably resellers. To be honest, I wouldn't doubt it since I've actually caught employees doing it on more than one occasion before. Par for the course, I'd say; it is what it is.

I've actually seen lots of the Shadow Master variant of Super Shredder, but never any of the movie accurate ones.  I'm just hoping April won't be impossible to get when she's out in the next couple of months.  NECA has actually been a lot better about their stock over the last few months, with the occasional hiccups, still.

Was actually considering getting this new Captain America figure when I first saw it, because I think it looks great, the suit might be up there as one of the better comic to MCU translations they've done and with the wings, it's quite a great looking figure.  The suit just pops in toy form and in the show.  Was super disappointed that the only way to have a complete Cap is to buy the entire wave as they made the wings a separate BAF release.  I don't want any of the other figures and I'm not paying over 150 bucks just to get the wings lol Sadly I'll have to wait for a deluxe release, which I'm sure will come out with the next Captain America movie they announced.

I like the Shadow Master variant slightly more given the standard version kind of looks like those pixel-based figures from NECA (Contra, Castlevania, Rambo, et al) due to the highlights on the figure's abs and leg muscles. Not a deal breaker by any means, I still like it; I was surprised to find it, if I'm being honest - it was the only one left.

I mean, it was expected. Regardless, I'm not wowed by this wave. Although, if I'm being honest, the MCU-related figures have never been my cup of tea, none has yet to pique my interest - Falcon and Zemo, and to an extent Scarlet Witch I'll admit look nice, but that's about it for me; I'm more into comic-accurate figures. Most of the figures look bland; Loki for instance could've had a second set of hands, and maybe even another head. Hopefully the final product has him with a different colored jacket because the one seen in the stock photos looks bad.

Oh yeah, I definitely think the Shadow Master looks way cooler.

They released the final images and packaging for April this morning, and she has gone up for pre-order on the NECA store.  The Signature Edition has already sold out of the 2000 pieces (I'm in for my one - definitely already feeling some regret because of the price), and the standard is $30.  My mom actually found me the movie Foot Soliders this morning as well, so now the only movie line figures I'm missing are Tokka and Rhazar, and I'm getting shelves from Ikea next week.  Maybe I can finally stop spending money on them.

The new Super 7 TMNT wave was fully revealed and I think I'm gonna have to get the Samurai Leo.  That was a favorite of mine with the spinoff figures they did after the initial main wave and it looks really good.  I don't collect Super 7 stuff in particular, always a little pricier than other stuff, but I have the regular Leonardo, so I think I'll need this one.

Yeah, even though they often look really nice, I've never bothered to get anything from Super7...although I've been super close to with the ThunderCats figures. However, every time I'd end up saying, "I can use this money for something else," and forget about it.

With that said, though, that Samurai Leonardo does pique my interest, as I remember owning the original figure ages ago. I'll tell you what. I guarantee you I'll be all over the release of a Space Cadet Raphael.

I dug through stuff I sell at the flea market and it turns out I had a vintage Samurai Leo, so I'll keep that to put up with the Super 7 one.  Missing one of the shoulder armor pieces and no accessories, but just having the basic figure to put with the Super 7 one is cool.  I have a vintage re-release for the standard Leo that I have with my regular Super 7 Leo.

Been meaning to mention that there's the S.H.Figuarts Falcon by Tamashii Nations (https://www.shfiguarts.com/news/1187/SHFiguarts-Falcon-The-Falcon-and-the-Winter-Soldier.html), in case you're interested. Granted, it's just plain old Falcon, but still looks a thousand times better than Hasbro's figure; and it's worth the price, especially considering you have to get the entire wave in order to build the wings to complete the figure.

Not wrong, but I don't want to spend 150 bucks on a single figure no matter what lol It's easy enough to just wait for the inevitable deluxe edition they'll do down the road.  If I'm spending 100 to 150 bucks on a figure, I'm most likely gonna spend it on MonsterArts figures that I'd love to get for Monster Hunter and Godzilla.

I like highly detailed and articulated figures as much as the next guy, very much so that my inner child goes apeshit for them; but for that price, I would rather get a statue, or maybe shell out a bit more for something a bit more "high-end", instead. Once I open my figures/statues and display them, they're set, perpetually confined within the wooden walls of my curio cabinet...or wherever is that I end up displaying them in/on.

The other day I wound up finding a good deal on a case of trading card packs for one of the CCGs I played when I was a kid, the Star Trek CCG. After opening them up, I decided to dig all my old cards out and reorganize them, getting what I've got into some nice binders and holy shit do I have a lot of cards:

That's everything sorted by set (not pictured is a full storage tub of Holodeck Adventures commons and uncommons from a misguided ebay auction years ago). I do know I will never have a complete collection as prices have skyrocketed for some of the sets. While some remain cheap, others are up to $1,500 a box. Looking at it all, if I had to guess, I'd say out of the 4,100 cards made, I'm missing probably about 200 of them, but I'll know for sure once I start organizing the individual sets.

With all the TCG hype lately with Pokemon that's spread to all sorts of other brands and styles, it's kinda reinvigorated my old love of card games.  Me and my sister have been buying Pokemon cards off and on for abit and I've been tempted to grab some DBZ, which was my childhood love.  I actually have a bunch of character cards still from the original DBZ TCG from the early 2000's, I was way big on playing.  I wouldn't mind getting more if I could find a bunch on the cheap, but I imagine they are crazy expensive to buy packs again.

I did just get a bunch of 1st gen Pokemon cards from a friend, base set, fossil, jungle, and some others, no holofoils and the base set is later prints, but for me and my sister just collecting for kicks, getting a bunch of standard cards is great.  I need to buy a new binder for them specifically since I got like 100 of them lol

I got a bunch of CardGuard's pro-folios for my organization instead of three ring binders. They're side loading pages so there's less risk of the cards escaping and the pages are more durable compared to the standard card pages you'd put into a binder, and are made in a way that the pages are double sided without the cards touching each other. Each book holds 360 cards and runs about 12 bucks. I also managed to find a massive plastic card holder for all the non binder ones, the BCW card bin. It holds around 3,200 cards. It's about twice the price of the cardboard equivalent of that size, but after seeing the accumulated damage my old cardboard one had taken over the years, I feel the upgrade was worth it.

Yeah that's more what I meant, we grabbed one of those side loading ones for the new Pokemon cards we bought, which is neat to have as we sleeve them and then slide them into binder, so we'll probably do that for these too.

I'm only like 4 cards short of an entire retail set.  I think it's just a foil from Blaze of Glory, then the UR from Motion Pictures, and one or two alternate border cards from the same set.  The TMP cards are crazy expensive.

I'm also missing the All Good Things boutique set, bit I've kind of resigned myself to never having it.

Same. I just can't see myself paying that kind of money for what those cards are. The Enterprise Collection's at least more grounded in price by comparison.

The S.H.Figuarts Falcon looks great, but the Hot Toys Captain America (Sam Wilson) (https://www.sideshow.com/collectibles/marvel-captain-america-hot-toys-908266) easily steals the show. And I know, both are entirely different type of figures, but still.

I don't collect Hot Toys, but between this one and Venompool the temptation is slowly pulling me in.

Finally picked up the best Kevin Nash action figure! lol

Despite what seemed like a number of Walmarts supposedly getting crap tons of the NECA Super Shredder Shadow Master variant, I hadn't seen one show up in any Walmart around me the whole time.  Until today! There was one left on the shelf, it's a fairly cheap figure at 30 bucks for its size, and it looks fantastic.  I think this version is better than the other, because in the movie, Super Shredder looks way darker compared to a bright purple suit that I guess he actually had.  Overall a real good figure, not the greatest poseability wise, but all of the painting and details look so good.  the paint on of his eyes is a tad off unfortunately, didn't notice it till I got home, maybe why it was the last one left, but it doesn't bother me that much since you can't notice it unless it's right up to your face.

Just need to get a movie Leonardo and I'm good with these figures.

Nice!  He's one of my favorites for sure.  I got the Genghis and Rasputin cartoon frogs today, myself.  Just need to eventually get the damned display case I want.

There's an Ultimate version of TMNT 2 Shredder coming at some point in the future, too.

They all look good, it's been hard to not get them, but I really don't need another series to collect, and I mostly just focus on collecting Leonardo, which I have a small collection of now.  But Super Shredder is so cool, I just had to grab it.  Now I just need them to re-release Leonardo as a solo release again.

I've been rewatching a lot of One Piece lately and I was feeling that I was wanting toys of the show, but when I went to look, there's surprisingly very little in the way of toys for the show, which is odd to me for such a big and popular show.  I can of course buy 8 million different statues and figurines, but it seems like there aren't many action figures and the ones I could find on like Amazon are clearly just bootlegs of toys that I'm guessing aren't available anymore or are wildly expensive.  Thankfully it looks like Bandai is doing some new action figures, starting with three from One Piece, so I picked up the One Piece Anime Heroes Zoro to see if I would like the line.

They are slightly bigger than I was expecting, I think I had in my head that they were smaller based on what I saw online, but that's because of the Loyal Subjects toyline that is out there that doesn't seem very good and is quite small.  This Zoro matches up even with a Marvel Legends Iron Man I have, so it's basically 6 inch scale, when I thought it was more 5 inch.  Detailing looks good too, which is weird to say, but McFarlane has been doing anime stuff lately for like My Hero that looks rough, so it's nice for a Japanese company to get it right lol  Posing isn't bad, it's nothing crazy, it's only a 20 dollar figure, but the arms got a lot of poseability.  Legs seem okay, but the design of this figure, I won't be doing much with them or else his long robe thing would be poking out in weird ways.  I'm totally good with this though, so I'm gonna buy Sanji and Luffy next.  I really hope they do the full crew also, I don't want to buy these and they don't plan to do the rest.  They also need to be in scale as Franky and Brooke are very large.

Ended up picking up Sanji and Luffy also, these are pretty solid figures, nothing super special about them, but they really nail the visuals and pose pretty well.  Only thing I would've liked to see are alternate heads with them.  Sanji needs like a scowling look with a cigarette in it, Soro needs a sword grip mouth, and Luffy needs some big goofy smile one.  Otherwise good stuff, gonna grab the rest whenever they came out.

Until either Mattel or Ringside Collectibles comes out with something better, yeah, you're not wrong with that statement.

[...] but McFarlane has been doing anime stuff lately for like My Hero that looks rough [...]

McFarlane did a number of releases based on anime characters back in the day (Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Tenchi Muyo, Trigun), but his market has always been centered around western-styled figures, so that's why they tend to look somewhat "iffy". Even so, it'd be criminal to deny that the first wave of My Hero Academia had some class A defects, which I've yet to understand how they managed to slip through QC, not to mention the prototypes for some actually looked better than the final product, which is sad. Overall, though, for me when it comes to McFarlane all I care for is Spawn; I've contemplated numerous times getting some of the DC stuff, but other than Batman Beyond, nothing else has genuinely piqued my interest. In fact, I actually find it funny that some of the Fortnite figures have appealed more to me than the DC stuff. Granted, I haven't gotten any, and doubt I ever will, but they do have their appeal.

Ended up picking up Sanji and Luffy also, these are pretty solid figures, nothing super special about them, but they really nail the visuals and pose pretty well.

They're cool-looking, but kind of have a Happy Meal thing going on, especially Luffy.

Anyway, here's part of my latest haul:

I got this one mainly because I've always wanted a deluxe-sized Spawn figure ever since missing out on the ones from 2005, all of which happen to go for ten times their original price now. All in all, it fills the spot I wanted it to fill, but the gun it comes with really cheapens it a lot. Also, not that I want to knock it any further, but the necroplasm accessory is rather dull, too. The figure is solid, though, and I like it.

I pretty much gave up trying to get the Mighty Morphin team since I became interested in the line rather late, plus Walmart kept restocking figures from other series that, while cool-looking, I wasn't particularly attached to. Fortunately on one visit they had the Black Ranger and Goldar, one of each, which I didn't think twice grabbing, then after that I got the White and Blue Ranger online at a really good price. The rest I'll hopefully get soonish. Other than the original series, I'm somewhat interested in the Zeo team, but I'm mostly hopeful that Hasbro ends up releasing figures for the Turbo Rangers, especially the Phantom Ranger. That'd be cool!

Originally I was invested in getting more of these figures, but their build quality is disappointing, so I think this one will be my last...although admittedly I'm still inclined in getting Heavy Arms and/or Tallgeese. Hopefully by the time they decide to release some Zakus, Epyon or more of the EW Gundams, or perhaps even Physalis (doubt it) they'll improve the quality of the figures. We'll see...

And last, but not least, I'm not into cars, much less into collectible toy cars, but I saw these at Walgreens and truly felt smitten, so I grabbed and took them home with me. I must say that I'm quite happy I got them.

I got the White and Green Ranger, but I'm only planning on owning them unless I can get the rest of the team really cheap.  I'm actually waiting more for them to do the Power Rangers Movie figures because I think those figures would look great, having more of an armored look, some metallic sheen to the paint, I'll definitely have a full team of that.  Also I'll probably grab the Leonardo TMNT Power Rangers figure whenever that releases because the art for their designs is pretty cool.
Title: Re: The Toy Collectors
Post by: pzeke on July 03, 2021, 01:25:01 am
I actually got those for cheap; the White Ranger was the one I paid the most for, and it really was just $20, shipped. Patience, that's all that's needed. Granted, the Red Ranger will probably elude me the longest, but still...

As for a release of the Movie Rangers, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Hasbro is doing a "cel-shaded" release of the MM Pink Ranger, so I hope that's not how they would potentially try to emulate a metallic sheen effect - I know a good number of people seem to be happy for this figure, but I'm not feeling it at all, it looks ugly and cheap to me; and I think that's saying a lot given how Hasbro has been dropping the ball lately. I mean, they might as well copy the chrome effect from the original 1995 figures and call it a day.

On that note, Super7 is set to release MMPR figures next year, sometime in spring, with the first wave consisting of the Green and Yellow Ranger, the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord, Goldar, and a Putty Patroller. In all honesty I'm not liking the unmasked heads for the Green Ranger at all, but I'm tempted to slurge on these, albeit I can do without the Putty Patroller figure. Decisions, decisions...

Anyway, these came in a few days ago...

Got this set just for the Venompool BAF, but Carnage, Phage, and the movie Venom look pretty nice. I will say, however, that even if you're not into Venom or Deadpool, or simply have grown tired of them thanks to their over-saturation, it'd be insane to deny this wave's BAF as being quite possibly one of the best in the series so far. Heck, it's possibly one of the best Marvel Legends figures Hasbro has put out as far as BAFs go (ToyBiz still takes the cake); it's an entirely new sculpt and the details are on point (even though the nails were left unpainted, but that's an easy fix). Props to Mayshelf for such incredible work.

Lastly, check this shit out:

Thankfully everything is in one piece, but this is the first time ever in the many years I've been buying online that I receive something "packaged" this way in the mail. Like the only other thing I've received that comes close to mind is many, many years ago when I got a PS2 game from someone on eBay wrapped only with two sheets of A4 paper. What's even more absurd is that this was shipped media with priority mail tape plastered all over. At least there was no postage due, so there's that.

Yeah the cell shaded stuff does nothing for me, like they did the sparkle thing to I believe and I have no interest in variants like that.  For the Power Rangers movie figures, they'd at least be all new figures, wearing armored suits instead of just thin spandex and have a different design to aspects of them.

Super 7 generally does stuff just out of a price range I enjoy with a collection, though I did buy the Super 7 TMNT Leonardo and I'm buying the Sewer Samurai Leonardo since they have a lot of nostalgia for me and look great as throwbacks to the original toy line.  I am guaranteed to buy a Dragonzord from Super 7 though whenever they release that, as the T-Rex looks awesome.  No interest in the rangers or villains, mostly because I think the Lightining Collection is mostly just as good, like sure they are bigger scale and are gonna have more detail, but the Hasbro stuff poses well and looks good and is more affordable.  The Zords are dope though, those would tempt me for sure, but I'm just sticking with the Dragonzord as it's my favorite.

New toys recently was that I picked up Skelegod, I kept seeing stuff on it and though I have no MOTU attachment and haven't seen the new show, I think Skelegod is badass and he looks great, though I got a weak ankle on mine that I'm trying to fix.  I'm unlikely to get into the full line, even if I like the new show, but maybe some stuff here and there will interest me.

And I got lucky and found a set of the previous MOTU WWE figures and got the Ultimate Warrior I was looking for.  I missed out on the first wave version, which is the better look, but getting at least one version is good.  I buy these to have a cool sorta retro-looking WWE figure collection rather than having fantasy versions of wrestlers lol

Absolutely, the armor details on the MMPR would look nice for sure. A few days ago Hasbro teased what appeared to be a Ninja Ranger in their latest livestream, so maybe down the pike the Movie Rangers will follow. In the meantime, Phantom Ranger is set to be released in the upcoming 10th wave, so I'm definitely getting it. It's weird they decided to release it as part of the "In Space" series, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. If they're indeed going to follow with a release of the Ninja Rangers, then I hope they eventually release Ninjor.

In regards to the Super7 stuff, after some consideration, I'm leaning mostly toward the Dinozord and Goldar since they're the ones that truly caught my eyes the most when I saw them for the first time. As far as I know, they have plans for a Dragonzord, which it's safe to assume they'll do for the second wave since I'm guessing they didn't want the first one to be slightly Tommy-centric...although, in all honesty, it would've made sense to release both at the same time - I wouldn't have minded.

Anyway, I'm really not feeling Skelegod at all. I like the sculpt, but the paint apps not so much - that thing on his chest looks awful. Also, for some reason the head seems disproportionate.

Lastly, the Walmart I frequent is flooded with those MOTU WWE figures. They've dropped the price twice now and nobody seems to bat an eye. The MOTU stuff flies off the shelves every time they restock them, though.

I've seen pictures of stores that have like 5+ of this Ultimate Warrior and I think some places just randomly get stockpiled with them, like I usually hit about 3 to 4 Walmarts in my general area throughout the month and I've never seen more than like a couple on the pegs at a time at best, most of the time they've been gone or they aren't ones I want.  I only got lucky that I got the first Macho Man, because I stumbled across it early on, grabbed it because I thought it was the only one I'd want, and then a few months later I thought I'd want more and then it immediately got impossible to find lol  I'm just hoping to catch Brett Hart, Andre, and Sergeant Slaughter online so I don't have to go hunting for them.

There's only a couple left that I actually want, I found a listing on Walmart for one of those random buys, where you buy at the base price and then just get randomly shipped a figure listed and so I'm hoping I get the original Ultimate Warrior and maybe Sting from that.  The only others I need otherwise are NWO Macho Man and maybe Rey Mysterio as those were the last ones that would look fine in terms removing all the armor for a classic wrestler look and I actually want them.

WWE is doing the thing I was kinda hoping they would do is that after they were done with the Masters of the Universe styled toys, they'd move into just regular versions of the wrestlers, since that's what I was mostly collecting them for.  Nothing in this first wave and I'm still grabbing the Sgt. Slaughter and Andre tomorrow, but it looks like I might have a line of wrestling figures I might keep up with.  I'm really looking forward to seeing a classic Kane and Undertaker, along with getting a regular Ultimate Warrior, since I missed out on the original MOTU one.

I pre-ordered the Leo/Donny Power Rangers/TMNT 2 pack yesterday myself.  I wish they were a little bit better, they needed slightly stockier proportions, but I still think it's really cool for Hasbro to be doing TMNT and I love the designs.  I don't know if I'm gonna get them all, I mostly only collect Leonardo, but I'm gonna have Donny with this and I was tempted by Green Ranger Shredder that'll be coming, which will give me Raph also, so I'd just have to get the Mikey and April 2 pack...Not 100% on that yet.

Tomorrow I'm getting Masters of the Universe stuff as I'm getting into the new Revelation figures (I need a better He-Man and Skeletor before grabbing them), but I thought it would be cool to have Grayskull has a backdrop, so I managed to get lucky and order the MOTU Origins Grayskull castle online and it's showing up tomorrow with my Masterverse Evil Lyn.  I'm not as into the classic designed figures, I'm actually way more into the other versions from the show, as my next figure will be the newer version of Teela.  I'm likely gonna just sell the exclusive character and accessories for the castle to make most of my money back which is nice for something I just wanted as a background display lol

Been a short bit since I've found stuff out in the wild that I hadn't just pre-ordered or ordered online, but I found the one Macho Man figure I've been wanting, which is the one based on his "Cream of the Crop" promo.  I love it, I don't even collect wrestling figures other than the MOTU WWE ones, but Randy is my favorite wrestler and I needed this on.  The version I have is the one on the left as the right one, which has the right details to the promo, is a chase variant, so I'm unlikely to ever find it.

I also found the Justice League Batman alongside this.  I absolutely am not a fan of Snyders work, the characterization of Batman with how he kills people, but dammit, I think Affleck's version of Batman is so dang good looking.  To me, it's easily the best live action version of purely design wise.  I just wish it was used in far better movies.  I got the "goggles down" version, because McFarlane hates his customers with a fiery passion apparently as there are three variants of this Batman, one with molded goggles down, one up, and another maskless that looks nothing like Ben Affleck.  There should've just been one masked head with removable goggles.  I'm kinda getting this mostly because I'm hoping they'll go back and do other movie Batmen figures in this scale and design, as I would definitely get a Dark Knight Bale Batman, and a 1989 Keaton Batman, along with likely getting the Pattinson one for a small collection of movie Batmen.

In the mail a few days ago, I got my movie Snake Eyes figure, for 5 bucks, because I bought it when had a pricing error and they never changed it lol Never got to see the movie, but the design is good.

My big buy was I got lucky and got an online order for the new Castle Grayskull from the MOTU Origins line.  I don't collect the figures, but I do collect the Masterverse ones, so I thought I needed a perfect backdrop for them.

And to go with that, I got an Evil-Lyn to go with my Skelegod.  I'm mostly gonna be collecting the versions of the characters that aren't the classic designs, I like them more generally and I'm just waiting on them to do a new release for Skeletor and He-Man to hopefully have improved heads as they didn't quite nail the looks.

Picked up a couple things in the past few weeks, some abit spur of the moment, most of it on sale lol  I just grabbed that Batman Batcycle, since it got down to 10 bucks on Amazon.  I have the Batman for this because I think the Death Metal design is cool, though still not 100% sure if I'm gonna keep it or not, more for space reasons, but I couldn't pass it up at that price.

Also spure of the moment was the Super 7 Metalhead.  It was on Amazon for 42 bucks, which is way cheaper than the usual Big Bad Toy Store pricing, and no shipping costs.  I have the Leonardo and I'm getting Sewer Samurai Leo next year, but these are snazzy toys.

To go with my Grayskull decor since I don't have any new figures yet (Waiting on Scareglow and Teela right now), Target was practically giving away the Sky Sled, so I grabbed that for I think under 10 bucks.  I just got it posed up on the other side of my castle without the Prince Adam on it.

Other than that, I got my GIJOE Classified Snake Eyes Commando figure coming in the mail.  Commando isn't my favorite look, I always preferred the more Ninja style with the visory, but it's a great looking figure.

I did a splurge on something as I generally don't buy expensive stuff, I'm more about buying more for less as a lot of the stuff I like is on the cheaper side, but after beating Death Stranding again, I really wanted to show my support of this game I love and I thought this would be a fun way to do so, by getting the Kojima Lady Ludens figure and a Death Stranding Trike for her to ride on.  Both are quite pricy, especially together, but I had a real need for them.

My April O'Neil Signature Edition from NECA arrived yesterday, and she is in two halves. She could be snapped back together, but I hadn't planned on opening her.  It's very frustrating.

I was bummed that the Secrets of the Ooze Turtles are only releasing as a 4 pack right now, because I missed out on the first movie Leonardo, but apparently they will be releasing them in 2 packs afterwards, which I kinda hate as I just want Leonardo, but it's better than buying a 4 pack lol

The Leonardo one isn't available in stores anymore or else I'd grab that as I actually like the darker color of the first movie more, though I'd take the 2nd movie design too since they are still relatively close.

The solo Leo isn't, but the two packs of the first movie are absolutely still in stores.  It's hit and miss, like all of NECA's releases, but the movie line has seen a huge spike in availability lately.

I don't know if I've seen one in like 2 years at least.  I saw it once, but at the time I hadn't gotten back into my Leonardo collection, but I started back into it in the past year or so, so I missed out on my chance at the time.

Can't wait to try and find the new unmasked Casey Jones from NECA.  The sculpt is amazing.

I want NECA to release a 1/4 scale Casey Jones, that's all; I'd be all over that.

Holy crap, you’re not kidding about that sculpt. I thought it was an actual photo of Elias Koteas at first.

I think you're exaggerating a bit, but the likeness is uncanny, so I see what you mean.

(https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/08/F2966_PROD_PRG_ZA_LODESTAR_CITOLE_195672_Online_2000SQ_2000x-928x483.jpg)(https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/08/F2967_PROD_PRG_ZA_THESEUS_PALAMON_195594_Online_2000SQ_2000x-928x483.jpg)

I found about these by complete happenstance, and while genuinely surprised, I wasn't particularly impressed. Nevertheless, I pre-ordered them, then canceled; then pre-ordered them a second time, and then canceled again. I don't know, I'm well aware of the crossover and like the concept a lot, but these just don't do it for me at all...and that's without taking into consideration the god-awful unmasked heads for the turtles—absolute trash, in my very, pedantically biased opinion.

Anyway, as it turned out, these were the figures Hasbro teased about during their livestream last year in July, where the silhouette of the figure they showed was of Foot Soldier Tommy, and not a Ninja Ranger, as I hopelessly thought.

[...] Both are quite pricy, especially together, but I really wanted them.

There, fixed it for you.

My April O'Neil Signature Edition from NECA arrived yesterday, and she is in two halves. She could be snapped back together, but I hadn't planned on opening her.  It's very frustrating.

Nah, son! If I buy a figure brand new, then that's exactly what I expect to receive, especially if purchased from a specialty store online like BBTS or from NECA themselves. Granted, this doesn't mean I'm going to bother customer service because I received a box with a dinged corner, only an ass would do that. But receiving what essentially amounts to a broken figure? No way. Places like BBTS, for instance, take measures to ensure their customers receive their orders in the best condition possible, so if anything like this were to happen, customer support wouldn't hesitate to assist. I don't know where you got the figure from, but I'm certain had you contacted customer support, they would've sent you a replacement.

Movie Line
TMNT 2 Turtles 4pk

I've been trying to cut back on spending on unnecessary things as of late, especially considering my room is nearly running out of space for collectibles of this sort, but there's a 50/50 chance I might get them. The price tag I admit I'm not too content with, but it's fair, I believe. The Last Ronin also piques my interest, but I'm not entirely sure whether getting it or not, so we'll see. There's also an accessory set (https://i.imgur.com/FUl5gGk.png) for the TMNT 2 4-pack. Now that one should've been priced a bit lower, I think.

The solo Leo isn't, but the two packs of the first movie are absolutely still in stores.  It's hit and miss, like all of NECA's releases, but the movie line has seen a huge spike in availability lately.

Maybe around your area, but not around mine or on their website—well, to be fair, I did managed to come across the Raphael/Michelangelo two-pack once, but someone handled that fucker roughly because the box was torn all over. This is what's only available on Walmart.com (https://www.walmart.com/ip/General-2-Pk-Tmnt-Jones-Raph/614363361), and it's sold by someone else at double its original price; the second pack has been out of stock for a good while now (https://www.walmart.com/ip/NECA-7-Action-Figure-2-Pack-TMNT-Rapahel-Michaelangelo/611810157).

Meh, I'm skipping these; I'm more invested in the Gargoyles line NECA is currently producing, so I'd like to focus on them.

Anyway, here's my latest haul since pretty much July of last year up until last month:

Not a bad-looking variant; it certainly isn't Shadow Master, but it still looks nice. The only thing that I regret is getting it around the time of its release since Walmart recently had about a dozen of them on clearance...although the boxes weren't exactly in the best shape.

I got these at Walgreens while looking for the NECA Ultimate Michael Myers. Finding the first two was a surprise; they were the only ones left stacked among Jack Sparrow figures, which admittedly I kind of regret not getting. The other two I've wanted for a while and found while visiting a Walgreens at a different location; they both go well with the Kingdom Hearts figures.

OG Broly is the best Broly.

Impulse buy while at Walmart, but it was the last one in a near-pristine box, and apparently tagged with the wrong price because it rang $5.98 during checkout when the rest were priced at $20something.

Random purchase I made while doing some shopping on GameStop.com last year. Originally I intended getting the MK11 Spawn figure, but since I missed that boat and Noob Saibot is the next best thing looking like a Hellspawn, particularly Raven Spawn, plus it being on sale I figured I might as well get it. It's literally the first MK-related figure in my collection, and quite frankly, looks cool.

I said I wanted Zakus, and I got the best. Love it! Sazabi is coming in September, which I'm thinking I might get.

Now if only I could find the Megatron (Beast) figure from the Transformers: Kingdom line, that'd be great.

I pre-ordered this one in a heartbeat when I learned about it. Gargoyles was my jam back in the day, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the rest of the line, and really hope to not miss any. Next up is Hudson!

Kick-ass statue! 'Nuff said.

And here we have this monster of a figure, The Violator, or Violator IV if we go by the naming convention McFarlane used to follow. This beast is massive and it's awesome! Truth be told, I almost didn't get it because I originally pre-ordered the wave, but ended up canceling it given Gunslinger Spawn was a Target exclusive, and in my head I was like, "it's either all or nothing". Ultimately, I'm glad I went against my "better judgement" and got this one because I can't get enough of it, and especially at the price I got it at. Here's a video review of the figure for those interested (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpvD95kJTlw), because in all honesty the pictures above don't do it justice.

One thing I will say that bothers me a lot that extends to other big figures outside of Spawn within the McFarlane brand is the base; it's too small, comically tiny. Sure, most figures of the size of this one can stand nearly unassisted, but for top heavy figures a base this small won't cut it—figures of this stature need a base that's adequate and proportionate to their size. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that thinks like this...I hope.

I have a love/hate relationship with model kits, but I spotted this one while at Walmart during a random visit. Funny thing about it, I was coming out of the toy aisle and tripped over my feet, which led me to spot the box, noticing the Impala. I thought it was a collectible toy car from afar, but ended being a model kit, which I almost didn't get had it not been for the fact it was the only one, plus being a fan of the series made it an easy pick up, too.

Picked this one up during the same visit I got the Impala model kit, and what made getting it a treat was the fact it was on clearance. The best part about it is that a week before getting it I was at Walmart running an errand and spotted the figure while perusing the electronics aisle where the collectibles area is at, and thought about picking it up, but didn't when I saw it was $39.95; I though, "I like Spyro, but not enough to spend $40 plus tax". But hey, things worked out in the end.

This bad boy is by far one of my best pick ups of the lot, not only because of the price I paid, but because of the waiting game I played to get it. Last year during October, Walgreens stocked up on these at $29.99, but unfortunately they weren't in the best shape; I went to three different store locations, and they were all in the same condition. Naturally, for me at least, I wasn't going to pay $30 plus tax for a figure in a beat up box, so I decided to let things simmer and come back and see after a week or two, which of course meant they all sold out. One day during December I went to the Walgreens near where I live where they had one left, but still at $29.99, and with part of the back of the box torn off; I held it for like a minute or so and after drawing a blank, I put it back and left the store. A week or so later during another visit, I checked the toy aisle to find the figure was still there and marked down to $2.99, and that was it—game set, and match. To further sweeten the pot, I had rewards points accumulated, so in the end I pretty much got the figure for "free".

Here's more McFarlane goodness...not really. The guy is a pioneer, especially when it comes to action figures and its market, but as a fan I can't help feeling underwhelmed with his new line of Spawn figures, because while they undeniably have the look, they feel cheap. And by cheap I don't necessarily mean shoddy, but they lack character, soul, the spark that made his classic line stand out from the rest; they look exactly like what they are: a mass-marketed product. The only reason I got this figure was the price—it was cheap, as in one digit cheap. Take a look at the pictures I included above, the difference in character and quality is night and day—3D model vs. clay sculpting. I could pick figures from the original line from series 1–8 that have more personality than this one, flaws and all. What made McFarlane a juggernaut back in the day was the fact he didn't compromise, every figure had intricate detail, superb paint apps, and a sculpt quality that was above the rest, and that's what I miss; I don't do photo ops with my figures, and I'm no longer the little kid that used to pose his figures around his room, so I don't really care about articulation, much less if it means sacrificing the feel and quality of the figure. The majority of the new figures that have been released so far, including the upcoming wave, are a hit and miss for me, with maybe a few exceptions, like the aforementioned Violator. Fortunately I'm not alone feeling this way, as I've read the same critique from others, and not only regarding Spawn, but for the other franchises within the brand as well. It's crazy to think that once upon a time this guy left Mattel because of quality issues, which led to start his own company, yet here we are years later.

I was at Walmart checking the collectibles aisle, which was nearly empty by the way, and stumbled with this one; it was the last one, so I pretty much got it on impulse. I would've preferred the blue version, but then again, the suit used in the movie was originally brown, so +1 for accuracy, I guess.

...And saving the best for last, this wholesome foursome that I got from GameStop of all places. After looking aimlessly for the 7in 2-packs, I got tired and gave up; Walmart.com seemingly never stocked them, and the two Walmarts near me have a poor selection of NECA-related figures, and what little stock they have they have priced through the roof—the Raphael/Michelangelo, Splinter/Shredder, and Oroku Saki/Hamato Yoshi 2-packs were $71 the last time I was there, about a week ago from today. I decided to put this in the back of my mind and just let them "come to me", so to speak. So, one day out of the blue I noticed GameStop.com had the 1/4 scale figures for pre-order, and ended up finding out through BBTS that NECA was doing a re-release of the whole line, which also included Shredder and the Foot Soldier, excluding Raphael (In Disguise). These figures have been my white whale since their original release years ago, so after contemplating it for a couple of days and concluding that if there was a time then that was it, I jumped at the opportunity and pre-ordered them. Almost 8 months since then and I couldn't be happier. Granted, this was the most expensive figure-related purchase I've made so far, but it was worth every penny.

These came in yesterday...

My intentions initially were to just get the Sewer Samurai Leonardo, but I kept remembering me having the original 1988 Playmates figures way back when and since I was there and had the money, I just knew I'd regret missing out, so I chose the team over the lone warrior. I’m glad I did, the figures look even better in person.

That's an amazing deal for that figure, I really need to get the Leonardo one someday along with the normal sized movie figure.

Target got the Gargoyles Demona figure in, which is the only other one I was going to get alongside Goliath and they are gonna look great together up on the Masters of the Universe Origins Castle Greyskull I have up on my shelf lol
