Title: Bye Xbox Scarlet, Hello Xbox Series X (Xbox Official World Reveal) DISCUSSION
Post by: marvelvscapcom2 on December 12, 2019, 10:21:07 pm
Omg,  OMG!!.    The time is upon us yet again.  Gather towns folk.  For the beast has awaken.  To breathe it's ash infused fire dust onto us.  As it completely shatters our asses,  by kicking them royally.  By being the standard of technological advancement.   The culmination of 2 world wars.  The next level of everything modern man can achieve.  The pinnacle of our existence.  The reason we live.    I'm fan girling hard.  :)

The VG Awards have been so damn lit.   :D

Here is the official launch trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tUqIHwHDEc

Xbox struggled this year with exclusives.  But Xbox is already coming out this generation swinging.   Hellblade 2,  Ori and the Will of the Wisps,  Forza 8,   Halo.    Just heavy after heavy.   And it's time for the great equalizer to go blow to blow with the sony giant yet again.   This is two galaxies colliding.  This is Ali/Frazier.   This is the crusades.  This is the best thing to ever happen on earth.

This is going to be the best generation in gaming history.  One we will tell our childrens children.  One we will have carved into our epitath.   This is what dreams are made of.  This is the manifestation of artistry.   This is everything and nothing at all.   It's the expansion of a universe collapsing into a white dwarf sun getting sucked by a black hole.  Never to be topped,  never to be bested.   The true greatest decade of human life will be upon us.   Maybe we learn to share it's glory as it comes only once a lifetime.

Whos as excited as I am?  Anyone going day one?   I will set up my tent 10 days prior and use a wifi hot spot to watch memes unti launch.

No interest in Xbox at all, especially with a PC, but I like the systems design.  It's actually something that has been around for PC cases for awhile now and makes a lot of sense if they are trying to push for power and performance, but wanting to keep it from being a big PC design.  Though I could see some console fans not liking the more bulkier look.

As for the name, it's not great, but it'll make more sense due to them having multiple system types I think, so there will be one uber version, then the regular version, and then the regular version without a disk reader for purely digital downloads.

If Xbox is pushing for something like this, I'm curious what direction PS5 will take, if they'll stick with a more traditional console layout, or they'll also be pushing for what is essentially something closer to that of a PC.

Possibly the worst named console. Ever.

How is it worst than Xbox One?  That name is crippling levels of confusing.  Because it's hard to differentiate it from Xbox Orignal.  Which was Xbox One.    But Xbox Series X sounds so damn sexy.  Sounds like velvet.  Warm whipped cream.  Cherries.   And pure power.    It's like all 50 shades of grey in one.

I'm just too excited for this gen :).    This is magical.

I found out about this on Facebook while I was out about about this evening, and I literally didn't know if it was a new, more powerful XBONE console or its successor for like 10-minutes, and neither did most other people. This thing is probably going to be just as unremarkable as the XBONE, especially if they're banking on the same old franchises to sell this thing. I honestly hope I'm wrong, and they have a ton of exclusives throughout next gen, but as is I have literally no excitement for this thing.

Scorpio > Xbox One X
Project Natal > Kinect
Revolution > Wii
Dolphin > GameCube
Mars > 32X
Ultra 64 > Nintendo 64
Morpheus > PlayStation VR
Xenon > Xbox 360
...

How come the names given to the prototype video game consoles ALWAYS end up being much, much, MUCH better than what the companies end up naming their retail versions?

1. Love the system design.  Finally something different than what we've been seeing since the PS2/XBOX era.
2. It has an optical drive, so far so good.
3. Not entirely sold on the name, but, who cares it is just a name.
4. It'll likely be backwards compatible with the XBOX One (and hopefully XBOX 360).
5. As long as it has physical game discs and it is at LEAST backwards compatible with the XBOX One I'll likely buy whatever the most expensive version is going to be.

Too bad they didn't learn from Nintendo's Switch and make a portable XBOX.  I think it would be revolutionary if they did, but I get why they don't do it.

I agree :).   It is pretty odd.  Prototype names always sound sleak and cutting edge.  And then the final launch item always has something boring or just confusing.     Except for a few of them.   Dolphin never made sense to me.  I actually like gamecube much better.   But Scarlet was a beautiful name for Xbox :D.

There's no way a portable Xbox would realistically work.  The Switch has shown it's not a very capable system, as much as I think it's a snazzy piece of hardware, but when the push for both Sony and Microsoft is graphical power, you can't do that portable.

Gotta say I was not expecting the next console to be a monolith.

But Xbox Series X sounds so damn sexy.

People are already shortening it to the Xbox SeX.

It don't look vary appealing in fact most PC towers look a lot better, I wounder why they didn't make it more pretty other then a rectangle with a hole. I guess they ran out of ideas on appearance? ???,

I'm sure some youtuber is going to comment on how this thing looks, and they might compare it to the PlayStation 2 phat models.

The exterior design is not much to look at so far, they should at least make this thing light up (add lights), maybe a clear and lit console might be in the future of this thing ???

It looks like a subwoofer :P

So can this thing go on it’s side to fit under a TV stand?

Surely it does or that’d be a massive design oversight.

Yes, it can.

Even if put sideways, I doesn't seem like it would fit under my TV rack (the PS3 barely does).
I guess they are expecting people to place it in the middle of their living room's coffee table like some do with Alexa.

It'll be compared to anything that's rectangular apparently.  I've seen it compared to a paper shredder.  It's just not there imo.  Yes Paper shredders have a slot,  and they are also rectangular.   Outside of that.  Not an ounce of similarity.   Fridges have doors.  This has no doors.  What fridge has a giant slot going down the side for discs?  Im not sure.   The memes have been cold thus far.

Tbh,  this type of troll reputation has plagued PS for a long time.  It completely crumbled the last Xbox,  and the Wii U.    I just hope their users don't get too cocky in the lead.  Let's not forget what happened to Sega.  :)     Can't outspend to win forever.

Well we can't judge a book by its cover, so maybe this thing will be awesome, and maybe it will look better when it's released.

There's only place for one console in my living room and that's already been taken by the Switch.  Sorry Microsoft. Also not that much interested in the Xbox game library.

Like so many others - the name is a terrible choice.  It's not quite as bad as Wii - > Wii U but the last upgrade that game out was the X-Box One X.  That's definitely going to be confusing for your average person, and some kids are definitely getting a One X for Christmas next year because of it.

I do love the extent of the Backwards Compatibility, but just like most other generations, unless something catches my eye at launch I'll be holding off.

Possibly the worst named console. Ever.

I think that'll forever be taken by the Wii and Wii U lol

No, this is definitely worse. As I said over on Atariage: You've got the Xbox One, which isn't the first Xbox, comes in S & X, but not Series X, that's a different Xbox than the Xbox One, which is a different Xbox than the first Xbox... no wonder the 360 sold the best, it's the only one where everybody knows which one you mean!

I imagine people will just call this one the 'Series X'... not sure if encouraging the market to ignore your brand game is good, but it seems to work fine for other consoles- the hard part is gonna be not confusing customers at the buying stage. I saw a poor mom trying to buy an Xbox over Black Friday- no idea what variant she should be getting. At least she knew the hard drive size she wanted, so I'm sure they got her sorted. Unlike the other mom sent to get Switch exclusives for PlayStation.

I imagine they'll be at least a few lil' Billys who ask for Xbox & get PlayStation next Christmas becuase their parents can at least parse the naming rhetoric.

Neutral on the shape- basically I just want dimensions so I can figure out where the heck I can squeeze it into my bloated entertainment center.

However, none of that is the important part, which is: Hellblade 2 looks cool & is a major point in Xbox's favor for early adoption on my part.

Series X may possibly be worse in terms of naming confusion, but Wii U is just an all around worse name.  "Wii" was a  tough sell, but Wii U is just infinitely more mockable.

I think the confusion thing is being heavily exaggerated.   I won't deny it's not a great name.  I definitely agree.  But it's certainly not similar enough to cause mass pandemic or lose sales.   As someone who worked retail for quite some time, and even during the whole Wii U debacle.    Which was when I was working at target.   Even the most confused, and oblivious Grandpa can usually navigate even the worst of blunders just by asking or holding a flyer and pointing.

Most parents who are confused say "I need the new nintendo"  or "My son wants the new Xbox"  almost always since New and desirable is about all they know about it.  Most actually forget the name early on and keep looking at the flyers  ;D.    Usually us workers know exactly what they mean and help navigate.  As we are instructed to by our managers.    Also sign placement and ads do their wonders.  I've seen parents navigate off just look alone.   By seeing the big cardboard adverts and saying "their it is".    It does have a unique tower look that helps with that.

I really think the naming gets way too much blame for both Xbox One's and Wii U's failing.  I think it breaks down to simple as Wii U had a very bad 3rd party support, and horrible gimmicks that weren't recieved well.  Xbox One had a very bad first party support. (More so Xbox dropped the ball extremely by pushing digital only media in a age when people weren't even remotely ready for the idea and people ran to PS4 which was already confirmed to be physical).  Switch corrected their problem this gen with incredible diversity, some odd 3rd party games, LRG came on board and they ported a lot.  The price was affordable and BOTW was simply a must have.  Hence why Switch sold like cheese in wisconsin lol.   If Xbox fixes their issue with some MUST HAVE exclusives.  I'm talking minecraft or bioshock or something special.   They will do the same.   It's all about content.  And power.   The name and even design takes a back seat.

It is very early, and we still have no idea what the future holds for this console. I am basing my comment on the trajectory Microsoft has been on since the original XBOX, which is a criminally underrated console. The 360 was pretty good, but not as good, and I felt like the XBONE wasn't even trying. I love video games, all video games regardless of what console they're on, but I literally struggle to find a reason to buy an XBONE even for under $100. Hellblade 2 looks very promising, and i hope its a sign of things to come where they actually work on getting worthwhile third party sequels. Truth be told, I do like some of the XBOX staples like Halo some of the Forza games, but this isn't even remotely enough for me or a lot of other people to go with XBOX in 2019. As I said, I'm hoping I'm wrong and Series X knocks it out of the park and inspires me to buy one at full retail. I just can't see that happening, at least yet.

I won't be getting it, at least not for a good while. While the 360 is my favorite console of all time, the Xbox One was some seriously shitty hardware. Yeah, it was pretty....but I've had sooooo many problems it's ridiculous.

I will say MvC, while I don't share in your enthusiasm...it's refreshing to see someone so genuinely excited for a new console. I hope it's everything you hope it to be, and I hope it's more than I expect it to be :D

And Microsoft is making this more confusing by saying that they are just returning to the "Xbox" branding...So they went Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and are technically going back to "Xbox", but the new one is still "Series X" which will refer to different versions they'll be making, which I don't understand how that will work yet...They have a lot of work ahead of them dealing with what is becoming a new marketing fiasco for them.

It's why I think Playstation is smart having only done numbers, or why Nintendo, even when they terribly name things like the Wii and Wii U, they still make each console uniquely named.

Well, after today, I'm not touching the next gen Xbox. Woke up this morning, and found my Xbox One S dead...I bought my 1st Xbox one after Thanksgiving 2014, and tomorrow i'll be picking up my 5th one. 1st one lasted less than a year, replacement from MS lasted less than a month, 2nd replacement from MS lasted a month...gave up and bought an S, which lasted from 4 years. Shitty from a $500 console (Gears 4 LE). What sucks all the XB1s I could find new have 1 TB hard drives, and the one I had had a 2...I guess It's a good thing I just got another external HD....

Only had to replace one 360, and still running with my original PS3 from last gen.

If that happen to me with any console that cost me $500 I would have gotten the first one fixed and kept fixing it when it broke again until I could no more because like I said on here before, replacements are not always going to be better.

But in my original PS3 case I gotten another one after I had mine since 2015-2019. But I am keeping my old one but I need to get it my old one fixed, the hard drive is stuck ajar. but my first one was used when I got it. and my 3rd one is refurbished from GameStop

Only the original Xbox was hardy enough to not continually die. The 360 is well known as the most replaced piece of junk in the history of consoles. I have heard of people buying more than a dozen of them. Why even bother? It's not shocking that the latest installment of x-trash is also constantly dieing.

Xbox has no redeeming qualities and their library of exclusive games is basically the same 5 or 6 titles rehashed over and over. Obviously I'm disappointed that Hellblade 2 is in that mix now but so was the first one and it made it to the ps4 so I'm not too concerned.

Microsoft needs to stick to their name. Software. Dump the junky consoles and start focusing on the games for the real consoles.

I'll say I haven't had many problems with my Xboxes. My 1st 360 broke once, but was covered under warranty and fixed in about a week and has had no issues since, and my 2nd (Upgrade to a newer model) still works fine. And my One is from the system launch and has had no issues either.

I've had the same 360 S for 5 years and it still works great. On the other hand I've had probably 10 PS2s since they came out, all having failed lasers after a while.

I only play games on my PS2, but on a different PS2 I used it to play music CD's and DVDs, and my CD laser wore out on that one

I have a virgin model that has been refurbished, and cleaned at least 2 times since I had it. It and it seems ok my virgin model PlayStation 2 has a dead battery in it. But other than that it still works fine blue and silver laser too

I try to get refurbished consoles now on instead on just listed as used.
