Title: Heads up NeoGeo Pocket Color lovers
Post by: bunnybear on April 22, 2021, 12:01:29 am
A physical compilation of 10 games (* see below) is going up for sale tomorrow on Switch. There will be a retail in Europe, so no FOMO required, unless you want one of the CEs.

Limited Repro Games will be releasing a typically underwhelming, brittle CE tomorrow, but if you want something that costs the same, has higher quality, and better components, then the Pix N Love option is for you (they also have even more expensive variants if that tickles your fancy).

Purchasing from PnL also sends a message that you won’t support the other company that engages in gatekeeping of what should be retail prints by limprint companies (again, there will be a PEGI retail, PnL are just doing CEs), or deceptive region locking practices.

* List of games on cart:
- SNK GALS' FIGHTERS
- SAMURAI SHODOWN! 2
- KING OF FIGHTERS R-2
- THE LAST BLADE: Beyond the Destiny
- FATAL FURY FIRST CONTACT
- SNK VS. CAPCOM: THE MATCH OF THE MILLENNIUM
- METAL SLUG 1ST MISSION
- METAL SLUG 2ND MISSION
- DARK ARMS: Beast Buster 1999
- BIG TOURNAMENT GOLF

good to hear :)

I always love video game compilations, and since it's for the Nintendo Switch? that makes this product even better.

From what I heard Nintendo usally does not make video game compilations, but they did make NES and SNES mini so I guess they do :)

The "Volume 1" labeling has me hopeful that a Vol. 2 includes the Card Fighter Clash games. Since this collection has Match of the Millenium, I wonder what our chances are for getting SVC Chaos and the Capcom/SNK games ported (I'm absolutely not holding my breath on any of those but it'd sure be nice  :P).

Bought form PnL once, never again. They are idiots.

That's pretty obsecure something handheld that isn't gameboy

Still extra credits If they actually included a neo geo pocket cardridge to make it playable on the original console

Neo geo pocket color has the best Control stick out of any handheld system ever. Clicky feeling like an arcade stick pretty satisfying

It's missing the best title in the Neo Geo Pocket Color's library: Sonic Pocket Adventure.

That and Dark Arms: Beast Buster were the two games I kept coming back to, on it.

may I ask what happened? I've only made a few purchases from them, myself, but the experience was fine. My only complaint was there website can't handle the traffic when certain in-demand titles get released

I want to play the two Metal Slug games but 60% of this collection are fighting games that I know I won't enjoy  :(

Neo geo pocket is 80% fighting games no joke maybe more well at least for notable titles that is.

It has some other genre's but those are few and far in between. Also a pretty small library of only a bit over 60 titles if I'm not mistaken.

you picked the wrong console if you don't like fighting games Let's just put it at that

Yeah... I've tried to get into them, but I just don't enjoy them. So I'm probably going to pass on this collection. I'll be buying Bug Fables instead this week from LRG.

Thought I might not get the CE if I waited till Friday but those fears were for nothing and I'm out a few extra bucks on shipping costs.  :-*

Really hoping they can get the OK from other publishers for games on a Volume 2. I've already mentioned the Card Fighters Clash games but like burningdoom said we could use Sonic Pocket Adventure, Pac-Man, Bust-A-Move Pocket and especially COTTON. Figure V2 would be a good time to get Biomotor Unitron, The Dive Alert games, and I dunno...Crush Roller.  :P

There was also this evolution rpg

So odd how that series has a title that ended up on the neo geo pocket

Considering it's roots on the cube and dreamcast and obviously the megaman 2d vs fighting game

Emulate the handheld and enjoy the few good games it has.

Yeah, that's probably a better idea.

That makes it sound like the fighting games aren't good. There's certainly an overly abundant amount of them on the system and they're not everyone's cup of tea (as is the case with Telly), but for me the NGPC has like a 90% good to bad game ratio. Granted that's my singular opinion and that opinion is probably skewed because when the system first came out I was all-in.  :P

You're not wrong though, emulation is the way to go if you wanna cut through all the stuff you don't like. If I recall, there is a pretty decent NGPC emulator out there.

It's hot garbage compared to neo turf masters on the console/arcade

It's not a bad game on handheld but it's definitely not a highlight of the pocket's library.

I like arcade esk golf games aswell. but they are rarely any good/ give an interesting experience in wich they are worth it to pickup on a handheld device.

Arcade esk golf games definitely need them visuals, presentation and music to accompany it's gameplay
They can't just stand on gameplay alone while everything else isn't that great. handhelds don't deliver with golf games.

I actually prefer golf games that have an analog joystick or mouse swing, like the Tiger Woods PS2-PS3-Xbox-Xbox360 games, or Links 2004 for the original Xbox. I really don't like the golf games where you need to press 3 times to calculate your swing with a status bar.

the tru-swing or analog swing is miles better than the traditional golf game swing. So I don't think I'd like Big Tournament Golf lol, it's just funny that this game was included in with a bunch of fighting shoot-em-up and 1 RPG, I mean they could have used a FPS right?

Erm...the NGPC library is not even 50 US titles and NONE of them are a FPS.  ::)

They did overdo it on VS Fighters with this volume and it doesn't really leave much meat on the bone for a V2. Games like Crush Roller and Pocket Tennis Color are NOT going to move units and I doubt Nintendo will let them put the casino games on there.

That's subjective I'd say normal simulation golf games are really boring for my taste.

Same debate as soccer simulators vs faster paced arcade soccer games or pretty much with any sport sim vs the arcade aproach really.

aside from the faster paced gameplay the visuals and music are less extreme and fun in the sims it's not as exciting because it's supposed to be realistc.

Golfing in real life and midget golf are fun though just not so much if where talking simulators in games.

Different styles of games at the end of the day arcade sports games vs simulators

The Tiger Woods games for the 6th console generation and later, do have a few arcade modes like speed golf and target golf, Speed golf is where you run through the golf course in first person view and try to hit the ball a fast as possible, but it's better played with a friend unless you don't mind the computer kicking rear.

That makes it sound like the fighting games aren't good. [...]

Unless it's because I quoted telly, nowhere in my post did I try to discredit fighting games. I think the genre has some fun titles on NGPC, but quite frankly, I'm not particularly a big fan of fighting games on handheld consoles. Granted, I'm more of a spectator when it comes to fighting games, but still, having giant hands doesn't particularly help me when holding a controller when playing fighting games, so a handheld would be disastrous.

They did overdo it on VS Fighters with this volume and it doesn't really leave much meat on the bone for a V2. Games like Crush Roller and Pocket Tennis Color are NOT going to move units and I doubt Nintendo will let them put the casino games on there.

Unless they've been working things out in order to localize games like Faselei!, Cotton, Evolution: Eternal Dungeons, Rockman Battle & Fighters, and Legend of Ogre Battle Gaiden, to name a few, I don't see a Vol. 2 happening. Aside from Card Fighters, Biomotor Unitron, Magical Drop Pocket, and Sonic Pocket Adventure, and maybe Dive Alert, what's left are pretty much scraps.

As always, though, I don't mind being proven wrong.

Oh I know, that's why said it sounded like, not that it actually was the case. I somewhat try to pick my words carefully but even then, context can be killer regardless.  ;)

Faselei! got a US release (albeit as cart only in those blister packs). Evolution and Cotton have the EU releases so no additional need to localize those though the latter two would need that treatment. I too would like to see another collection released and hope that Volume 1 isn't a wasted moniker.  :)
