What are your thoughts on Reddit?

Nowadays, I can't stand that place. I don't know what it is, but almost every sub-reddit community I've tried to engage with is super toxic. To me it seems like the people are on there just looking to troll, or flame any post. On Reddit it's absolute herd mentality required, or you become a target rampant abuse and down-voting (which effects the karma score they give your account). This is even the case in a lot of the gaming sub-reddits there. It's like you can't post anything without someone doing some kind of mental gymnastic so that they can flame you, and it's usually some snob who's time is much too valuable to "explain" to you why you're wrong about something, and apparently a moron to boot.

I just freakin' hate the place. Which is sad, because I use to love it. Then it got super mainstream and it changed. It's a far cry from this tight-knit community here at VG Collect, where even though we may have differing opinions, we're still decent to everybody and keep the drama to a minimum. Reddit would never be able to replace small communities like this.

Do you have any experience with Reddit? Do you like it, or dislike it?

It's fine, it's no worse than most other public social media platforms.  You are right that it's worst than here though, but it's because we are just a much smaller group and is a place that draws in more like-minded individuals.  Reddit just has problems because of how many people can be involved.  Like we can just look at the numbers, where VGCollect had only around 2k people at the most online ever, and the majority of those folks don't interact in the forums.  Compare that to say the Nintendo Switch Reddit, where there at 6k online right now on a casual Sunday night.  Just gonna find more frustrating types like that there.

I've generally enjoyed my last four or so years on it, I post occasionally and I've had some good interactions on the site. I've even seen some of the folks from VGCollect over on Reddit too. That being said, I don't like to engage too much on the platform exactly for the reasons you stated above. I only ever look at four to five subs and even so, people will infiltrate my little Reddit bubble with idle banter or heavy trolling.

Looking at ANY of the mainstream stuff like on their homepage is difficult to do though as most of the people on mainstream Reddit are extremely one sided as well as very abusive to one another. It's honestly the cesspool of the entire internet in that regard.

That's why I like this site, it's relatively small, lots of folks contribute to the database and I generally think there is good conversation in the forums. Lots of the people who were active when I joined the site five years ago are still active to this day, with lots of new quality members as well. The forums here are awesome, with only a handful of posts coming off as trollish or pedantic.

I don't have an account with them. but that name Reddit makes be paranoid,. I knew of another great community called the Amazon Classic Rock forum, although not as popular as this one is. It was a great community but vary fewer people go to it. and I left because I got board with that forum.

Reddit reminds me of regedit in which is a command to go into a windows computers registry that all you guys need to know

As for amazon classic rock forum it there are no direct google links and none monitors that forum and probably don't exist anymore

I've never posted on Reddit. I read stuff from time to time, if it turns up in search results for something I'm trying to figure out. It's fine, I guess- I prefer more specialized communities for my forum content- just like this one. A lot smaller, a lot slower, makes it easier to keep up with everything- and, I think the smaller size & scope keeps people on a more even keel. If I want a flame war kinda situation, I'll do it on twitter where I can block/mute everything when I'm tired of it. :P

I like using it for general information, news and humor however like most things, I dont find myself posting anything on there just cuz I dont felt enticed to do so and I dont mind keeping it that way.

Pretty much this. The only reason, and I literally mean the only reason I still have a facebook account is because I belong to a great retro gaming group I really like. If not for this I'd delete it in a heartbeat. As for Reddit, I've never been a fan. I don't like the format, I don't like the people, and just in general I've found it to be an inferior site.

This.  I’m a member of a select few subreddits (only recently, actually) and it’s fine, because of what I’ve chosen to talk about, and they have mods that actually enforce rules.

Usually the better reddits are the game specific ones most of the time.  Like R/Videogames or whatever the general big one for that is awful, I stopped check it years ago, but I check out like Monster Hunter World, Battlefield V (Which is in kind of a bad place right now due to bad dev decisions), and a couple others once in awhile and sometimes interact, because they come across as better pages as the people who want to be there, actually want to be there.

I've been on Reddit once, and it was because a friend sent me a link to a forum that taught me how to battle in Xenoblade 2. This was before all of the game's patches were implemented, so the tutorials were only shown once. Which, by the way, weren't very helpful. But, that's another story.

Otherwise, I've never been on it. I feel like it's just another forum to keep up with. I have enough of those.

I'll say I actually enjoy reddit. I find with most forums, and to be honest this one included sometimes, I often feel like I'm just talking at a wall. I feel like everyone just talks at each other and there's very little actual communication. That said, this forum is far better than most (hence I'm still here once in a awhile). Reddit just makes it a bit easier to have conversations inside a thread. I don't care much for the upvoting/downvoting, but if you filter in each subreddit for "new" you get new posts.

My favorites are probably r/retrogaming and r/shmups. R/gamecollecting is kind of a joke these days. It's all 13 year old posting a picture of their (dad's) N64 on the floor with a 19 inch CRT playing Donkey Kong 64 with the caption "I'm 13 y.o., how's my collection so far!?10010!!!"... and a bunch of "I found these 10 worthless games at good will for 75 cents" kinda stuff. There's some good parody posts lately though so maybe the community's shifting.

I do feel you don't really get to know or recognize anyone though. Which is a plus to forums like this where you get to count on certain people providing the right info, unique perspective, or humor. I wish I had more time to get involved and interact more with this community. Love this place! But, reddit has a place too I suppose.
