Do you think PS4 Digital sale will become less frequent?
« on: November 17, 2020, 04:12:32 pm »
Hi,

I've noticed for the last 2-3 years that the PS3 barely gets any sales within the PlayStation Store - Nor does the Vita for that matter.

So I was thinking tonight on the PS4 Store & how future content will be handled. A rise in concern came about in thinking that in time I might struggle to get Season Passes for games I own at a decent price?

The good news is that unlike the PS3 to PS4, the PS5 has catered the PS4 with backwards compatibility. Also the PS4 content is available on the PS5 Store (I'm assuming, I haven't got mine yet :P) But while it still may be accessible will they still continue to highlight it? I'm not expecting a sudden drop at launch of the PS5 but maybe 1-2 years down the line it could be a different story.

So I think from now on I will be looking out for DLC I haven't acquired if it goes on the weekly sales.

You made mention of PS4 content on the PS5 store which now I will need to check but to answer your question, I feel like given the BC nature of the PS4 unlike the PS3 that they would be foolish not to have sales of digital PS4 games especially if there is money to be had with 1 generation back being able to play on current generation. However, time will tell and you should keep an eye on what pieces of content you want on sale.

I'd say what'll happen eventually is what the 360 sales have looked like on the One: There will be sales, but it will frequently be repeats of the same franchises/games, and sales on DLC will become few and far between, and will usually be focused on the games that go on sale frequently.

For a while now PS3 games have been a sold physically for low prices or at least the games I have for it. Why buy something digital? when you can buy that same game with a physical release. I would think most people who buy most games are collectors, anyway. I don't think digital on consoles will be as well received as on PC in the future.

Because more often than not they have sales that give said game a huge discount that physical can't match at the time. I know I've bought games digital simply because it's something I have wanted to play and it happened to be cheaper at the time than the physical plus tbh, the amount of plastic I would have around if everything I bought was physical would be insane and I don't have the room for it. Plus convenience to me comes first and having that convenience of having in one machine rather than a bunch of disc from time to time is better for me.

Yes it is more convenient to have 1000's of digital games rather than 1000's Physical games, I agree. but again what does a person do if someone breaks into their digital account? or a digital service shuts down. It would be just as nice to own a complete set video game compilation or volumles, bought in a set rather than relying any kind of remote connection

Just like they did with the SEGA Arcade games only released in Japan I think

The likelyhood of someone going into your account is very minimal. If there was some widespread account hacking from these services to be of worry then it would have happened by now. As for digital service shutting down, I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there. If I am at all honest, I'm not exactly worried nor thinking about what will or won't happen since thats not how I operate. Having all the games I want physically is not something I strive for like I used to as long as I can get to play them. I used to be very wary of digital but as time has passed, I have embraced it much more. Not to say that I don't care for physical, I still do but having the best of both worlds is what I like.

I also have some digital games myself, and I like playing them, but I really Really l. would like to just buy physical compilations games and consoles  (to save physical room)  a instead of going all digital for the future. That's just me, for me the best thing for a video game company would do is sell games in volumes and make all volumes available to the physical market. For me that would be the best of both worlds

The likelyhood of someone going into your account is very minimal. [...]

I think that's being modest; it's highly unlikely you'd get your account hacked. The odds of you winning the lottery are higher than someone hacking your account. I mean, unless you're a dimwit that actually puts its account at risk, then sure.

[...] or a digital service shuts down. [...]

If digital services shutting down worry you, then yarr-harr-fiddle-dee-dee.

I have heard of people losing their steam accounts before but that is another topic

Minimal was a wrong choice of words. Highly unlikely was what I was thinking of.

When a person's Steam Account is compromised, it's never because they were hacked; it's because they were phished. And even then, they never lose access to their account. The scammers just gain the ability to redirect trades and use that to clean out the person's CS:GO, TF2, and DotA inventories of anything of value.
