For my taste game gear hasn't aged well The screen quality of the og system is pretty shit compared to other non backlit systems. For some folks a mod is required to make the games even playable which is quite a price barrier. The actual games themselves even with mod upgrades even though they have color for whatever reason they usually look worse than stuff on the gameboy classic that has nice details for my taste. The sound is also pretty bad it really doesn't compare to a nintendo handheld. and I'm not a huge fan of both in the first place Neo geo pocket has decent screen quality, sound and grapics if where talking a decent other handheld console. although lack of variety is a thing there. but that's one of the few actual replacements if where talking old handheld consoles. or the wonderswan but japanese and to many rpg's but I could see that one being great aswell. Not to mention that thumbstick stick and the buttons in general are pretty premium quality in comparison to anything else in that era for my taste. If I'm being honest it even beats out consoles in modern times since no other handheld feels that comfortable to use considering lesser quality buttons and that thumbstick That being said it really doesn't suprise me That nintendo dominated the handheld market. there ain't much out there in them retro days outside of Nintendo. |

Busted out the Game Gear yesterday and played through Jurassic Park. Still holds up as a really fun game. My youngest enjoyed playing Crash Dummies. Warmed my heart to see him enjoying what I did 30 years ago. |

I see game gear just a bit less often than master system but still plenty. difference between the 2 is however that there is allot less interesting stuff for it. allot of the same stuff usually compared to other consoles. Seems like quite a limited library even if you include all the fodder. |
