They're the band known for the songs in the Sonic games. Such as Live and Learn , Open Your Heart, All Hail Shadow, Never Turn Back, Knight of the Wind. they Also have  badass cover of Fire Woman ... when writing that I didn't even realize I wrote the group's name and not the game... Sonic Adventure 2

It might be a bit of an over simplification. But they are basically the corporate rock band for SEGA. The guitarist worked for SEGA. Most of their known songs were written for SEGA consoles. Although, they do have a history before that as Sons of Angels.

Plus, any band that has a cover of Super Sonic Racing has my respect.  :P (In this case, the original is a lot better... well... it's catchier to say the least)

well fine then

Crush 40 began with Jun Senoue and Sega. After graduating from college, Jun Senoue was hired to be a music composer for video games. His first project was creating two songs for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He worked on games such as Dark Wizard, Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Mega Drive version), Sega Rally 2, and Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition.

In 1997, Senoue contacted Johnny Gioeli during the recording process for the game Sonic Adventure, and recorded their first song, Open Your Heart. After making the track, the two stayed in contact.

The original band had Senoue as the guitarist, Gioeli singing, and Naoto Shibata and Hirotsugu Homma playing the bass and drums, respectively. In 2000, the band released Thrill of the Feel through Victor Entertainment. The album contained the tracks they had written for NASCAR Arcade.

Johnny Gioeli is also the vocalist of Hardline and German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell's band.
