It's doing exactly what my Dreamcast is doing. I can play some games no problem, others freeze and crash or won't load altogether. My wife's parents also own one that has rarely been played. Every game I own with exception of one, because of a really deep scratch on the back. Work perfectly.
So htimreimer is probably right.
Don't worry though they are easy to replace with a little time and patience.
