SEGA and Nintendo's first home consoles (minus pong stuff) was exactly 30 years ago today. It's one of the great days in video game history. Just as the game market was dying here, it was just starting in Japan. July 15, 1983 was a crucial day in keeping gaming in the mainstream. Make your own paper SG1000! http://sega.jp/facebook/file/SG-1000_fb.pdf 4-CD 30th anniversary music of the SG1000 Soundtrack http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00DUX05KE/ Retronauts podcast fresh from their return http://www.retronauts.com/?p=170 I always found it neat that the SG1000 and Famicom were released the same day. The MSX was released that year as well. |

Here is a SG1000 commercial. Complete with the SEGA chant at the end. I think the age of the chant is pretty awesome. Also, notice how the kids are holding the controller about halfway through (or the freeze frame before the video starts). It seems to be inbetween the famicom controller and the classic atari joystick. This is also why some of the master system controllers have that screw thread in the middle. |

Two best console makers ever. Wish Sega was still in the game and could be celebrating, too. |

That's not even the 1st model of the Sega SG1000, Here's the Ads for the first version. I own the 2nd model, but the 1st model is really hard to get without spending $600+ |
