So many childhood afternoons spent at 7-11 trying to beat this game while sucking down Slurpees and reading comics off the rack.

This is what the world is missing right now. The ability to go somewhere and actually have fun instead of seeing Beiber lookalikes all around jacking off on their stupid cell phones.

Plus that game looks badass. I want to find it.

Can't blame them, really. I'm not any different, now. Why go to an arcade and waste quarters when I can play in the comfort of my home, with anyone I want online; without leaving the comforts of my couch, my fridge, and my pets?

There really is something badass about people huddled around a arcade machine in a dark room. Arcades were awesome. It's not the same as playing online. Quarters stacked up and folks claiming "next".
Plus, when a 12 year old said he'd had sex with my mom; I could knock him out. You can't do that online.

No doubt about that "arcade experience". There was also a distinct smell that arcades had.

But you can't tell it's not more convenient to just play people over Steam or Xbox Live. That's why arcades are barely hanging on by a thread nowadays.

I really wish Neo-Geo/SNK made more non-fighting games. They're pretty good at it.

I don't really think online gaming killed arcades. I think a lot of it was when the home consoles started being as good, if not better, than arcades.
I'm out of touch since I live in the sticks and I don't know many teenagers. Do kids still get dropped off to hang out somewhere?  My parents occasionally dropped us off at the bowling alley with $20 and told us to have fun. Does that still happen?  That may have been what killed arcades. Maybe it was just a different time.

Maybe I'm just rambling. I'm not going to proofread this, so it may not make any sense.

It doesnt happen anymore. And I do think both of you are right. Consoles power and online gaming has killed the arcade scene the same way Ebay has caused lots of closed businesses : convenience.

But I do miss that dark arcade and people crowding around the machine with quarters up. We used to get dropped off at the skating rink ourselves. They had 5-6 games and a concession stand as well as the skating itself (I was on the Oklahoma speed skating team for 2 years when it first started).

What was the game kind of like punisher, but one of the playable characters was a baby in a mech suit?

P.S. Are we still going?  Can we?  I'd love to....

Did you know that there is a conveyor belt level in Donkey Kong?  I have a Donkey Kong cab and didn't know that. That tells you how bad I am at that game.
