I've used Wanikani and Textfugu - they're both paid services but offer a free trial for the first few levels (Wanikani's free levels would equate to about several weeks of regular use, give or take) or chapters.

Usually your local library(s) will have some sort of free language learning program as well.  At one point, one of our bigger cities in the area offered free Rosetta Stone use, but most of the time, they're fairly simple, generic programs that you expect from the 80s/90s.  Check your library's website for language resources or ask your librarian

Textfugu is the best out there. even though it isn't free. コウイチ (koichi) has a big sale for New Years. He might be having one for Thanksgiving. I would also suggest watching tofugu, "Rachel and Jun, Gimmeabreakman and kanadajin3. If you aren't already. Also it is important to never quit. Despite the difficulty. You can ask me for help. PS: you should watch kids anime, manga, movies and play their video games. Because if you know it's Japanese, You know it's gotta be better!
