What about 3DS? The vita is more niche?

I don't think you can go wrong with a TG-16/PC Engine CD either

For a current system, PSVita all the way.  Offbeat, obscure titles like Akiba's Trip, Danganronpa, One Piece Red and tons more are available on the Vita.  It really is the go-to system for anime style games.

As somebody else already pointed out, Sony is your friend here.  Depending on your tastes, just about anything Japanese will be found on a PlayStation system.  PS3 and PS4 are region free, so you can import titles for these consoles without fear that they won't work.  For PS1 and PS2 games, you would most likely need an import console.  There were games based on anime properties such as Space Battleship Yamato and Neon Genesis Evangelion on those systems.

In addition, if there is a chance that a anime style game got a localization (ie US release), chances are that it was on a PlayStation system.

After watching the latest Game Sack episode, it has to be, without a doubt, the PC-FX (not to be confused with the PC-Engine). NEC's next-gen console after TG-16/PC-Engine, that didn't fair as well.

In that review, there wasn't a single game that didn't have anime cutscenes. And these guys aren't like big anime fans, or at least haven't portrayed themselves that way. That's just how the games are on that console, apparently.

It was only released in Japan, though. And as a result, this is a pretty bad episode of Game Sack (which I really haven't seen bad episodes of this series before). They don't know what's going on in half the games they're playing. And they could only find an English translation for like 1 game online.
