What TV/Netflix show are you currently watching? (Megathread)

Finally got around to finishing the third season of the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.  I've been surprised at just how dark, complicated, and engaging it has been.  I think it took a little too long to really get going, but it really hits its stride in the back half, up to an incredible 2-part finale.

Do you recommend a watch?

If you are a TMNT fan I think it is almost mandatory.  They hit a lot of the major story arcs, do a lot of Easter Eggs and fun casting with the characters.  I think it has two major drawbacks.  First: it is kind of an ugly show.  The turtles themselves look fine, but a lot of the environments are bland and drab and a lot of the human characters are just blocky messes.  And second: it is still ultimately a kids' show.  It can get surprisingly deep and have some funky body horror (something the ugliness of the show actually helps with), but just as often it is just silly stuff for kids.  That's the main reason it is taking me so long to get through it.  That kiddie stuff can wear thin.

Finished season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.  The best MCU project in 5 or so years.  Still not quite up to the quality of the best of the Netflix years, but still pretty damned good.  Secondary characters dont get a ton to do this season, but they all make the most of their limited screen time.

Finished up the first season of Widow's Bay on Apple right before my subscription expired.  Totally unique and inspired horror comedy with Matthew Rhys and a ton of character actors.  Episode 4 is maybe the best episode of TV I've seen all year.  Just an absolute blast of a show.

Started the new Ghost in the Shell anime, this one adapting the original manga style and I assume stories, but it's solid.  I've watched most everything GITS at this point over the years other than Arise, I feel like I only saw some of the OVA's as they didn't hit me as much.  My favorite was always the Stand Alone Complex series, both seasons, and the original anime movie was good to.

The art style is great, it's that retro 80's anime vibe, but unlike something such as Megalo Box that does kind of an older style and trying to emulate a less higher quality feel, it's the retro style with very clean and colorful styling.  It's very similar to SAC in execution, just has more humor and cartoonish reactions.  I don't LOVE that aspect, the Tachikoma's having like little :3 faces at times is abit much, but other than that, it's fun.  I think I'm gonna dig it.

It's just nice having an anime that has more of a unique look these days since anime can often feel very samey at times.  Sure it's emulating a style that was very popular back in the day, but it's been long enough, give me more 80's/90's styled anime once more lol

Finished up Season 4 of The X-Files on my rewatch (and my wife's first time seeing most of them).  It's pretty strong across the board, with the mytharc episodes getting close to hitting their apex and the Monster of the Week episodes are all pretty solid on average.  This was the first season where Vince Gilligan wrote multiple episodes and they are all notable in their overall quality.  Still love this show.
