He may not technically fit the bill, but I really love Luka from Bayonetta, and he's at least sort of a sidekick, so I'm going with him.

That's a good point. When you think of Pokemon, you think of the monsters themselves as the main characters. Usually instead it is "you" or the trainers. So all Pokemon could be a sidekick for sure.
