Question about Vita Item Numbers
« on: February 18, 2017, 07:37:06 pm »
Hi, I did a quick search and didn't see an answer for this, so I do apologize if this has been asked before.

Anyway, according to the style guide thread in this section, all of Sony's item numbers should be four letters, a dash, and then a set of numbers.  On Playstation Vita releases, there is a number on the card that matches this while there is a different item number on the spine of the box that is just a series of numbers.  The latter is on numerous game pages instead of the former.  Which is the correct one to use?  I just want to make sure I add accurate information in the future.  Thanks!

EDIT:  Here's an example.  https://vgcollect.com/item/119191  The simple string of numbers from the spine is currently in the Item Number field and you can see the PCSE number on the card in the third image.

Hey! Quit getting my edits rejected!  :P ;)

Your Item Number is valid but it's for the Vita cart/card and it should be listed in the Description field like this...

Cart Item Number: PCSE-00976

Here's an example: https://vgcollect.com/item/30381

PS1/PS2/PS3 all had a SLUS/BLUS/CUSA number on the spine but they mixed things up for PS4/Vita and most of those releases have a 7-digit number on the spine. Tripredacus explained it in another thread that the Item Number field is for the item number as it pertains to the game's packaging and that if different, the cart's/CD's Item number is to be added to the Description Field until such time when/if Jason and the other site developers decide to add separate fields for "Packaging Item Number" and "Media Item Number."

Hope that clears things up.  :)
