Online Gameplay Vs Offline Gameplay
« on: January 03, 2018, 05:54:04 pm »
hello, and welcome to this thread. which is your choice when it comes to Online gameplay. Are you some that takes risks with complete strangers do you only play with your buddies.

For Me about 4 years ago I used to run doom servers on my home PC and I played with a bunch of complete strangers from around the world. I did make some old acquaintances this way. and even ran a teamspeak server for a few months in a private clan. but ever since I left contact with my old online buddies I have not ran a single Doom 2 server since.

I much prefer offline games but I love to play multiplayer with someone I know in the same room
which do you prefer offline or online gameplay?

Personally I Prefer offline Games simply because I grew up on the N64 and PS1 which didn't have internet connectivity. let's be honest, 4 Friends huddeld on a couch playing Mario Party 2 (for me anyways) is way better then yelling "LAG CAUSED ME TO LOSE!" lol

I'm kind of anti-social in general. So offline for me.

Besides that, having random people come up and ask you to escort them on a mission, bother you to trade for supplies, or just wants to generally annoy you; really takes you out of the immersion of a game.

Bit of both.  I generally play a lot of singleplayer games, but I also regularly play Battlefield games or recently PUBG and some other stuff.  I usually don't do voice chat in games anymore unless its with friends or the game requires it to be good, like with Rainbow Six Siege.  I turn it off entirely in PUBG because general chat is cancer there.

I play multiplayer stuff here and there, but I'm predominantly a single player guy.

I think Online gaming should be a feature and nothing more. I hate when they require us to have a connection in order to play some games, making them unplayable in the future when the servers shut down.
Or they use online as a means to prevent piracy, such as DRM. That's also annoying.

My family had an Atari 2600, but I started really playing games around Nintendo's release. I often enjoyed playing games like Contra, and Akari Warriors with my cousin, but learned quickly that playing sports games with him wasn't very fun at all. I think that set a preference for me going forward. Anymore, I only really play online with my friends or with my son.

I used to play a ton of EverQuest, back when you HAD to group to do anything. Some of the best friends I have today are from meeting them on that game. I loved grouping and meeting new people, then MMORPGs got to where you didn't have to group (WOW), and people became more petty, and greedy for camps, loot, and the such.

So I went back to single player console gaming and avoid online gaming if I can. I've even gotten to the point where I'll avoid a game if it has too many online trophies.

I am first and foremost a single player person, but I dabble. I think the competitive nature of online play really turns me off. I'm pretty good at certain games, but "pretty good" online="noob", so I just get slaughtered, and really don't have fun. Rocket League, FIFA18, and MK8D come to mind recently. Love those games, and absolutely love couch, split screen and co-op, but can't stand online. Its just not fun to lose, and I don't like the games enough to practice and become competitive.

Certain games, like Splatoon 2 for instance, which are predominantly online, and lack split screen play are complete no-go's for me. Had Splatoon 2 a split screen mode, it would have been a day one for me. but I don't know enough people with Switch's, or any consoles for that matter, to make it worthwhile. But if anyone can enjoy it with me on one console/television, then we have a deal.

Almost exclusively offline. No voicechat if I do go online. I just don't play much that's actually enhanced by online play, plus I prefer being able to drop in & out of the game at my leisure, rather than feel compelled to continue playing something I'm bored of for the sake of the other people I'm playing with.

Offline by far. I can count the amount of games I enjoyed playing online on one hand. I already don't like people in real life, and dealing with them online is even worse; you may not have to deal with them in person, but hiding behind a LCD screen seems to empower them to express the worst traits of who they are, especially when you factor in the competitive nature of online gaming. Yeah, offline all the way.

Even when I play online, I have an offline mentality. I don't interact with too may people and play by myself mostly.

Case in point, I am playing FFXIV at the moment... I say hello and am polite in parties, but I won't join a guild or raiding team.

I am getting Monster Hunter World next week, and I know I will most likely play it through solo although I am tempted to try a few parties. I can't remember the last time I spoke into a mic!

Weirdly, I do like seeing other people running about in games...gives me a false sense of community I suppose  ???
