Collecting game related cards
« on: March 28, 2018, 06:48:56 am »
Anyone here ever tried to collect the Kid Icarus uprising AR cards or the animal crossing amino ones? Feeling interested but these were so limited with their release and I don't remember ever seeing them on my local store shelves. Its a shame theyre so expensive to buy online. I heard the kid Icarus cards were very common in Japan and Europe. Recently it feels like nintendo too often releases stuff and then brushes them under the carpet too quick for people to notice.

I have some gaming related cards in my collection. Here are some i can remember.

1995 Leaf #AKK Frank Thomas

This is the card that comes in Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball on Sega Genesis. It is exlusive to that game.

1997-98 Score #264 Sergei Fedorov (Signature Moves)

This is one example of a cross-branded subset in 1997-98 Score for EA Sports. I have this one and another player I forget at the moment.

There are various hockey cards found in the mid 2000s that have PlayStation ads on the boards. Here is an example of one where it would appear there was a PlayStation ad in Montreal.
2007-08 Upper Deck Victory #50 Sheldon Souray:

2007-08 Upper Deck #97 Mike Komisarek:

2011 Topps American Pie #152 Nintendo's NES Released:
http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/75065/cid/5311847/2011-Topps-American-Pie-152-Nintendo's-NES-released
It is a normal card in the base set. There is a Doom card in the set as well but I don't have it.

2015 Goodwin Champions had various cards in it for Sid Meier, including a base, Goudey (insert) autograph and memorabilia card. I have one of these memorabilia cards:

I used to have a bunch of the Nintendo Power Cards from the late 80s/early 90s. Got rid of them in trades for comic cards in the 90s when they got hot. I don't regret it, because the comic cards had way cooler artwork, but I still would love to get them back again.

to be fair in japan and europe the cards are pretty rare and hard to come by unless you get them on ebay, there are only a handfull of sellers unloading them outside of ebay the supply is non existent yea sure they are available but if there was actual demand only than maybe they might become expensive. sales are pretty much non existant even if cheap chances come up

The only reason why they are so cheap is because so very few people want them only the die hard kid icarus fans I guess wich should already have them since I have seen entire sets being sold for only a couple of tenners allot in the past.

The same can be said of arcade cards, which are similar in function to E-Reader, but primarily used in Japan. Cards you can get from stores and scan them onto an arcade game. Then there are refill cards, which are more like membership cards... or phone cards that are still very popular in Japan.

About original title, the cards that come with Amiibo or Skylanders (and to an extent, Transformers) are very interesting and it makes me wish that they were also sold separately either as a set or even as packs... or as inserts in packs. That is one thing I am interested in about Amiibo or Skylanders is the cards and not the figures themselves.
