I'll try to make this brief but also interesting.

I know you can play burned games on the Saturn, I don't have much interest in that, but I assumed you could play Japanese import games using the same disc swapping method. A friend of mine showed me this after he had given me his Saturn (Model 2). So I bought an import game (Zero 4 Champ Doozy-J Type-R) just assuming I could play it.

Fast forward, it shows up, after a bunch of failed attempts getting it to work based off how I remember the swap trick working, I gave up and decided to refresh my memory by checking online. It was using burned games as the example but I didn't think there was any reason a legit import disc would be any different.

The suggested steps were:

1: Initial start up with burned game in drive (I substituted with the import disc)

2: Wait for laser movement/disc speed drop, insert legit game (used Sega Rally Championship)

3. Wait until laser movement again and disc speed increase and swap back to the burned game (import in my case)

4. Success hopefully.

So I did it this way and succeeded after a couple tries, played the game for a little bit and then shut it off.

Later mentioned this to the friend who gave me the system and we were discussing playing import games etc. He reminded me of the Action Replay thing, which I completely forgot he used when he showed me how to play import games. He said it was weird that I was able to do it without it?

At this point we're both confused. I'm looking up information online and it seems to indicate that I maybe should not have been able to do this without an Action Replay or Modded chip.

Too prove I wasn't crazy, I attempted to start the game again and had no luck after many tries. No idea what I did differently before.

Eventually, after more practice and remembering the details of what I did before, I was able to do it again. And then I got my camera out and recorded me doing it AGAIN (3rd time) so I knew I wasn't crazy.

Is this a thing? Are people not aware you can do this or am I pulling off some magic here? There is just a specific moment that you want to swap it. Guides tell you to swap it as fast as possible when you see the disc speed up but for this to work you want to wait as long as possible for the disc to speed up but stop and swap out the disc before it changes over to the second Sega company screen.

I've got this Complete-In-Box NTSC-J PS2 Slim. SCPH-70006 CB

It's all pretty much like-new. I used it a little bit many years ago and then put it back in the box. Even the controller and cables are still wrapped up from the factory and never used. Box is pretty much like-new.

The system only comes with a 220-240v power cord, but you can just use a different US spec power cord into the power brick. Its the same power cord the original Xbox uses or I've seen them for other things. I don't have an extra or I would have included it.

Also have a complete NTSC-J copy of Gran Turismo 4. Comes in a cardboard sleeve and includes a "Reference Guide" that is sort of a small strategy guide. Has pictures and specs of a lot (or all?) cars in the game and tracks along with tips for driving. Standard DVD size case holds the game/manual/extras. Everything is in good condition.

Selling them as a pair I guess. Lets say I'm looking for $200 + shipping. I take PayPal. Send me a PM if want to make an offer.

Site Feedback / Listing Change = Collector Notification
« on: July 20, 2013, 08:29:56 pm »
I'll try to write this up as best I can but it's hard to explain without it sounding like chaos lol.

If an Admin or maybe User adjusts/adds a listing that relates to an item in a person's collection, the person would receive (hopefully in a automated process) a notification asking them to clarify the item in your collection.

Example Situation:
A user comes along and sees there is no Super Mario World in the database. The user adds a listing called "Super Mario World" with artwork. 50 other people come along and add Super Mario World to their collection. A new user goes to add Super Mario World to his collection and notices that the artwork on the listing doesn't match his cartridge. The original listing has the title on two lines of text while his has the title on one line. He adds a "Super Mario World (Single Line Text)" listing to the database. Now the database has two listings for Super Mario World but only the one has a listing title specifying the detail.

Suggestion:
Admins or User should then be able to change that original listing from "Super Mario World" to "Super Mario World (Two Line Text)" and the (hopefully automated) system would then notify everyone who has that original listing in their collection to say something like "Hey, this item you have has been changed. Please check to see if you need to make a change to your collection." more or less.

The game I ran into that brought this idea up was Diablo II: Lord of Destruction [PC NA].. There is one standard listing with a bunch of people on it. While going through and adding stuff from my games I realized there is a Big Box retail version and a newer Small Box retail version. Both with minor differences and different UPCs and ISBNs. I was instructed not to adjust the original listing because it is already in other peoples collections. So the other option was leaving the original vague listing alone and adding separate (Big Box) and (Small Box) listings.

My concern is this just creating unnecessary duplicates in the database in the long term. And maybe in other ways it can show people variations in a game that they hadn't been aware of in the past (like the Super Mario World title situation in my case) which I find fun and interesting.

TL;DR Automated messaging system to let Users know when a game they have has been adjusted.  ;D

Site Feedback / Game - Collections - Username List Suggestion
« on: July 20, 2013, 02:39:55 am »
So right now when viewing a game page, you can click the Collections tab to view all other users that currently have that game in their collection. My suggestion is to add the Cart/Disc, Case/Box, Manual and Other Inserts information check boxes to this as their own columns.

Current design:

Username                                                                             Added                                          Messege
Person 1                                                                                 Date                                              Button

Suggested design:

Username                       Added      Cart/Disc      Case/Box      Manual      Other Inserts      Messege
Person 1                           Date               X                   X                   X                    X                   Button
Person 2                           Date               X                   O                   X                   O                   Button
Person 2                           Date               X                   O                   O                   O                   Button

It would use the same checkbox graphic as the game info panel on the right side of screen when viewing your collection. Maybe take this one step further and allow these columns to be switched ascending/descending so you can find someone with something specific. Or add a toggle option to the user's profile to hide this information.
