Title: Why you should buy Xenoblade
Post by: george on March 27, 2012, 12:48:01 pm
I've never played Xenoblade, but friends of mine who have rave about it. They say it is similar to FF 12, my favorite FF ever.

Anyway, the game is coming out in the US this April. The only place selling it will be GameStop. My local Gamestop, which is a very busy one, only has 10 preorders. 8 if you exclude me and an employee that works there.

So, why should you buy this game? Like Suikoden 2, it is coming out at the end of a system's life cycle. It is a cult RPG that will have a limited release (only people who preorder get one). The price for this game is bound to go up. May be worth checking out.

Also, hold on to your Mass Effect 1s, as the price for this game has gone up, too.

I already have mine pre ordered and I can't wait to get my hands on it. ^_^

I signed the petitions during Operation Rainfall.  My copy of Xenoblade is already preordered, I'm also going to get The Last Story set to release stateside in June.  Now it may be to much to ask for Pandora's Tower, but two outta three isn't bad.   :D

Actually how much advertising is going into this.  Knowing Gamestop not a whole heck of a lot.  I wouldn't be surprised If Nintendo caved just to rub our noses in it later.   :'(

I'll have to hit Gamestop this weekend and preorder.  Otherwise, I'll be kicking myself when this is selling for $100 in a few years.

Same as ffxik. Pre-ordered my copy as soon as pre-ordering was available here in Canadaland, and the same with The Last Story. Did a few of the Operation Rainfall things too.

I do know EBgames here is doing at least some advertising for it, they have a big poster for it behind the register, and it's been on top of their "highest selling" for Wii on their website ever since it went up for pre-order so it's getting some visibility at least. Not sure how well it's gonna do considering it's only selling at 1 retailer, but we'll see.

Update -

Just checked our prices on eBay. Art book that came with preorder is around $20. Game is BIN for $69, although you can get it for a less if you probably auction.

There's still time to get in on these hot games. The Last Story is set for April 19. That is a limited print, so that's bound to go up.

I'm about 10 hours in Xenoblade and having a blast. Really pleased I checked this game out.

They say it is similar to FF 12, my favorite FF ever.

Aside from having big open spaces and battles in said places.. no. Not at all.

It IS however, a fantastic and fun RPG that cuts a lot of the cruft (back-tracking, streamlined subquests, etc) and does most everything right.

Also delicious British voice-acting.

WITNESS THE POWER OF THE MONADO!

I was out of town since Friday, so I'll be swinging by Gamestop tonight to pick up my copy.  I'm tempted to just keep it sealed :/

I don't even own a Wii, and I'm kicking myself for not preordering this title.  Looks really good, and I'd love to get my hands on that art book.

Maybe I'll drop by my local Gamestop on my break today and ask if anyone hasn't picked up their preorder... *fingers crossed*

I must say, that the art book is actually really high quality. The pages are super thick, really high gloss. The cover of the book has texture sticking out of the page, too. This will go right with my strategy guide collection. Good luck. Please update here if you are having trouble finding the game, or if you found it no problem. I'm curious what inventory is like.

My local Gamestop says they don't currently have any extras but if someone cancels their reservation (I would highly doubt it unless it's a money issue), they'd put it aside for me.  I might give the other Gamestops a call to see if they happen to have any extras on hand for any reason...  For those of you who worked at the shop, do you know if you'd occasionally get an extra copy from the distributor for any reason?

I find it strange that they didn't just give you one of the pre-ordered copies that weren't picked up yet. I think it's something like... 48 hours after release, they just start selling pre-ordered copies that weren't picked up, it's apparently in their policies somewhere.

It happened to one of my friends once... Okay, actually twice, but one of the times they messed up majorly, selling my friend's pre-order about 2 hours after the game came out (it was Monster Hunter Tri and they had no more copies in stock), he was PISSED.

You're right; it does look like it's in their policy for at least pre-orders you place online to pick up in the store: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/help/In_Store_Pickup.aspx

Maybe I'll bug them again today or tomorrow to see if they can sell it to me.  I've heard them calling people about their preorders about a week after they've received the items, and in their messages they told them to let them know as soon as possible whether they plan to pick them up or will allow the store to sell them.

As far as Nintendo not promoting it...I got a pretty sweet Xenoblade poster at their booth at PAX, so they are at least acknowledging the release.

I will...we got home at 4 this morning. Ronalopolis took a few pictures with a camera rather than my phone, so I need to bug him to get them uploaded somewhere so I can steal them.

I just went on ebay to see... and people are crazy!!

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Xenoblade-Chronicles-w-Artbook-Nintendo-Wii-NEW-SEALED-US-English-Version-/260998819482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc4bdee9a#ht_1080wt_1079

That's the book and the game, but seriously, what's up with that? People are going crazy with overpricing this game! It's not even out of stock at gamestop and ebgames...

As for the book, the lowest I found it for on ebay is 35$ with shipping...  you might get lucky and find some people selling it for 20$ on random forums. I wouldn't say it's worth that much though, it's pretty rudimentary.

Oh, and around 30$ for the PAX poster! >_<

All the resellers are insane. I remember a few weeks back when people found that Kid Icarus AR card attached in the Game Informer magazine. All the sudden, it was going for $50 on Ebay. For a card ....

On the American eBay, looks like the book is going for about $20.  My closest Gamestop says they'll start calling folk in about two days to remind them about their reservation, and from there they'll know better if they'll have cancellations or not.  I'll be out of town, unfortunately, so I won't be able to check in with them until next Tuesday.

I'm also bewildered by my other phone call to another spot who said they had preorders left but no art books.  Maybe he thought I was just looking for the book itself...?  I might try giving them another call tomorrow.

Ok, just called a couple of shops, and they did say that there is a 48 hour policy for holding reserves.  However, it sounds like they also do a courtesy call a few days after the 48 hour period (approx a week or so after release) to allow folks who have preordered the chance to pick them up.  After that, they may be up for grabs.

Sounds like I'll be calling a few Gamestops next week after I get back from my trip...

I'm hoping I'm the only one asking!  I wouldn't mind getting another copy (if it works out that way for more than one store) in case there's someone else out there like me who is regretting not preordering in time.

That is pretty sweet. Can you post a picture here? Also, would you be possibly interested in a trade?

desoicates - thanks for all the updates. Keep us posted!

All this talk has me thinking I should get two copies of Last Story.

I picked up my copy Monday night and I had to remind the clerk about the art book.  It looked like they had about 5 left, unless they had more stashed away somewhere.

How is it packaged with the artbook? Are they sealed together or is it just two pieces? Id like a set eventually but if they come sealed together, Id rather just get them that way.

I wasn't planning on picking this up, but you guys have got me interested. I figure I'll hit up my local Gamestop tonight and see if they've got any of the art books left as well. If not, I'll probably hold off for a while on grabbing it, got LOTS of other stuff to play.

Lol thats my problem as well. I didnt really even know about the game til this post started and a few others. I have so much other crap to play but I think this one may be one of those "Damn, I should have gotten that when I had the chance" games.

Well, I went to the local Gamestop in search of a someone who didnt pick up a pre-order. I get there and the sales guy said "A lot of people just didnt want the book" ... I was like cool. He went behind the counter, pulled out the drawer, and gave me one for free. Sweet!

I went to my local GameStop and they told me same thing but he wouldn't even sell me one. He told me they needed to return them to corporate. I think the guy was full of BS and was probably going to keep them to sell on ebay or something.

Thats bogus. Obviously they dont have to return them cause they were supposed to be given out with each pre-order. How would the corporate office know who didnt pick up their books cause everyone should have?

If you win it for some crazy reason, I'll pay the shipping and the cost to get it to me. I called all my Gamestops and they said they sold all their preorders. Getting it from you would be cheaper than extending my radius.

Heh went to another Gamestop to pre-order Diablo III ... just for my own curiousity, I asked if they had any left over Xenoblade artbooks. Guy goes in the back and says 1 left and hands it over. I may do this everywhere in the OKC area!

Woot!  I'm going to check my other local shop to see if they have one available to me.  The shop I went to yesterday had two in their drawer, but they were really iffy about letting me take it.  They had to check with the manager and such, and said I had to pre-order *something* and they'll give me the book.

So I pre-ordered The Last Story, but I figured even if I don't pick that up, the book will have cost me $5.  Still better than the $15-30 + shipping on eBay.

I don't actually have a Wii right now, so wondering if I should still buy Xenoblade now or see if there will ever be a price drop for it.

I have been playing the ever living hell out of this game, just wandering around areas, killing stuff and collecting loots. The battle system is nice and the graphics are some of the best I've yet seen on the Wii. The music is amazing too and is catchy, I've not yet gotten tired of any of the bgm while hanging in an area for while.

I've found myself comparing combat situations with mmo games though, since you need to be careful of where you are fighting mobs or you will aggro adjacent groups, which is usually a party wipe. And you have to watch for knock backs when fighting on a cliff, or you will be thrown off.

One thing I still can't seem to get the hang of is the Monado's future sight ability and warning party members/ preventing abilities in time. I may need to reread that tutorial.

But yeah, this game is brilliant. So glad I snagged a copy new, and didn't wait to hop on the bus. Play it.

I like that you can play it however you want. For example, I'm doing a minimal amount of side-quests and almost no grinding but still doing fine, while my friend, at the same moment of the game I'm at, was 10 levels higher than me because he does all the side-quests.

Bah, wish I had a Wii right now and a copy of the game... But it also reminds me that I need to go back and finish some other epic rpgs, like FF XII or DQ VIII.

I kinda feel the need to go back to Colony 9 and just blow through all the side quests.
