Use this topic to report issues with Items. Examples include:
- Items with mismatching pictures/information
- Physical item cancelled and not released
- Item has watermarked or photoshopped images
- Invalid items in the database
- Any concerns about rejected edits
- Any explanations about an edit you want to do so that it won't be rejected
When you post about an item, include the current title, a link to the item in question and a description for the report. Do not edit posts to add additional content to it, make a new post instead.
When a report is processed, a member of DB staff will use the strikeout text effect on the link so that you, and we, know that the item has been handled already.

This is why I think it would be great if new submissions went into a pending status for moderator review before getting automatically added to the site. That alone would drastically cut down on the number of duplicate entries. You could have it where it's the default option for all users of the site but have it where after X number of successful entries, it would green-light/bypass certain users. I don't think it'd take much work to implement as the system is basically in place now for edits. The only part where I think it would get dicey is homebrews/bootlegs/multi-carts but I'm not a fan of those being on here anyway. :P

Thanks! I was not able to find any proof of release of a regular version, but looks like it does exist after all. Hopefully someone will eventually find a suitable cover art.

In other news, my edit for the capital letter "No" in the title of this entry to be changed into lower case "no" was rejected. This word is the preposition "of" in Japanese, and should thus be written with lower case letters.

Check barcode, cause that says it all.

Yes the originally entry clearly was the Canadian version, but the front art was wrong. I was able to find a picture of that release to confirm, but the front art picture was not good enough for me to put on the entry, which is why there is no picture currently. Before I had edited the entry, the item number was the number that was moved into the description.

Not always. SCEA usually doesn't use a different barcode.

The art matches that which I can find in pictures, such as https://ebay.co.uk/itm/132891563767
If the art on the entry is still fake, what should we be looking at to tell?

Good question. I spent nearly a half-hour looking at the images and couldn't find any differences...other then the one in the entry being darker.

That was not the edit. This was another edit. I fixed the barcode, and cleaned the title a little. But that was my last one. If mods don't want people to make improvements, then turn that part off.
Its like standard for a mod to hit deny, deny, deny, deny, i dont even think they are looking at it. And looking at the fora here, im not alone.

Could the admin who kindly updated https://vgcollect.com/item/156170 < this entry let me know what's wrong with the images? The current image is a sealed copy, the image on the bottom left of the front cover is a sticker on the cellophane seal which covers up the 18+ age rating underneath. Thanks!

Current image is correct. You can put into description about how the rating is below the sticker.

:'( Ugh, the current image burns my eyes. Is there a way I can scan the English-language flip-side cover as a separate entry?
Well ok, the current image is correct as opposed to the one you tried to put. We certainly could use a better photo of the sealed item in there.
A separate entry for the reversible cover is only allowed if it was originally sold with that cover facing outward, in sealed condition. This is the same for any other game that has a reversible cover. Ideally, we should have more picture slots, so we can have sealed front, loose front, etc because this would also work for other games such as CDs that have obi strips, which is the preferred front image for those types of releases.

OK, thanks for the explanation :)

Super Mario Sunshine (Not For Resale) (https://vgcollect.com/item/17002)
I must ask, what's the thing with this website and keeping stock images? I edited the current front cover image for this entry with one that's of better quality AND of the actual item in question, yet it got rejected. Also edited the third image to show the contents, and it also was rejected.
(https://i.imgur.com/9tQErAP.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/4YJ5PzI.jpg)
The information is already on file, but that doesn't mean it can't be replaced if a better, more suitable option is found.
Nintendo GameCube - Super Mario Sunshine Bundle! (https://vgcollect.com/item/118735)
I edited both the front and back images, even adding a third one showcasing the contents of this bundle, but it was rejected due to "incorrect formatting". The image is the same as the other two, a .jpeg. What gives?
Also, I believe it's quite impersonal that whenever an edit is either approved or rejected, it doesn't state who was the person that approved/rejected said edit. Not taking a jab at whoever rejected these edits, this is simply how I've felt ever since I starting editing entries. For all I know, these rejections could have been made in error.
-
Can see no difference in front art in the image you put, besides your image not being properly cropped. Existing front image is of better quality.
Cart art is for picture of the disc, not of the disc in the case.
-
Can see no difference in front art in the image you put, besides your image not being properly cropped. Existing front image is of better quality.
The difference is that it isn't a stock photo and is the front cover of the actual NFR variant. Simple. And if you mean "not properly cropped" because I left the outer layer of the case, as in the black corners, then by that logic the back cover I also submitted shouldn't have been accepted in the first place, regardless of whether the entry had an image for it or not. Matter of fact, I've seen other entries with images like this, plus I have submitted images of this sort before that have gotten approved. Don't see the reason for them not to, quite honestly.
Cart art is for picture of the disc, not of the disc in the case.
Same as above here; I've seen other entries where the third image showcases more than just the disc/cartridge, especially when it comes to editions of a game where additional items are included. Seems inconsistent and rather counterproductive to disallow this in particular.
But you know what, I digress. I'd rather not spend time on a trivial matter. Carry on.

Mad Catz Turbo Controller (Clear) (https://vgcollect.com/item/129828)
tripedacus, I have been trying to make proper AND accurate edits to this entry two times now, and both times you have rejected them.
(https://i.imgur.com/FbyCVkq.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/iOg2GNu.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/mA6d2tK.jpg)
Name, images, even the barcode are correct. The barcode for this particular controller seems to be shared with the Mad Catz Dual Force 2 for PlayStation 2, which I guess is why the edits keep getting rejected.
I personally take pride in the fact that I try to be as thorough with each entry I make, and painstakingly do research before even contemplating submitting or editing anything, which is why I mainly limit myself to doing so for items I own (or am knowledgeable of). We’re human, so we make mistakes, yadda-yadda... Can I proceed with the edits now without any further hindrances?
Thank you.
-
The replacement images, particularly of the controller and the controller as seen in the packaging, are different than the original art on the entry. This is why it is rejected. If there are two different versions of this controller, one with a red PCB and one with a white(?) PCB, then they should have separate entries.

Okay, cool, I figured as much after the images for the PS1 Performance controller were rejected. However, you're only adressing the images, the rejected edits made for the rest of this particular entry are completely unwarranted given it is accurate information – specifically the name of the controller.
Also, while I’m at it, let me throw in a suggestion: instead of vague reasons linking to the style guide and what have you, I think it would be much more productive to be specific whenever an edit gets rejected. “Action not allowed” posits more questions than answers.
With that said, can I now edit this entry with proper information...?

I just had some edits made to KAR Racing for the PC rejected.
My edits to this entry: https://vgcollect.com/item/143110 to change the title to "KAR Racing - Second Release" was rejected even though it fits the formatting guide.
Games denoting Special/Limited Editions, Box Sets, re-release series and/or special packs: The dash "-" is meant to show special releases, such as limited or collector's editions, greatest hits/ player's choice and any other special release or compilation. Of course, if a game is a special release with variations it would look something like this. Chrono Cross - Greatest Hits or Chrono Cross - Greatest Hits (Silver Backed Disc).
My edit to the description text for that same entry describing the details of the game's packaging changes from other releases was also rejected even though it fits the formatting guide.
The Description field should be notes about the games packaging variants/ pack ins/ collector's edition details. Or trivia about the games release, such as if it is a launch title, last title, a very limited release, etc. This should not be filled with store descriptions describing the gameplay or hyping up the title. Plagiarizing descriptions from other sources will not be tolerated and will be deleted.

You’re jesting, right? They’re the same controller, just different colors. I can understand being doubtful of the barcode, although is not unusual for an item to share the same one, but the rest of the package is the same through and through.
I don’t have pictures of the red one, but the ones below are for the same controller series, just different colors. The packaging is the same.

No. This would be the type of entry that should be left be until confirmed. There are plenty of items that I haven't even put into the database because I can't confirm the information. There is no harm to leave this one as is until a picture can be found of it in the packaging.

"Second Release" is not the edition name, in fact, this term does not appear on the packaging. The other two entries that are in the DB, called "third release" and "fourth release" have invalid item titles. I have quickly determined new titles for these three.

Please, enlighten me: what exactly needs to be confirmed? The design of the controller is the same throughout each one I have shown, including the one for this entry; the only thing that changes are the colors. Do you really think the packaging for each is going to be different? (Certainly not the case given the images I showed.) I seriously don't understand your position here.
What's particularly funny about this is that I bought this controller new and remember the packaging being the way its shown in the images. This was years ago, though, so I unfortunately don't have the packaging anymore, thus why I didn't give the entry its proper name, but common sense would dictate, solely by the images shown, that the controller in question is part of the same series. The darned thing does everything advertised on the back of the packaging.

No because that doesn't explain the specific release order of the games and why they are listed several times. The games had several changes made to both the packaging and the games from release to release that need to be noted and it was done in a specific order in time. Furthermore, why did you delete all the details that explain the releases from the description? All that I typed in was personal research spanning several months and is not information that can be found elsewhere. Nothing I submitted violated any rules and you're just making the database even worse and more confusing by needlessly deleting things that were fine to stay put.

The release order does not need to be explained in the item title.
For descriptions, there is no need to put what year the thing came out, because there is a release date field. Also, the description text that described other items, or stated what was "not" present, is removed.

This is a situation of retail vs subscription covers... It is a reject because it deserves its own topic on it, even though I seem to recall it being talked about before.

You know what, on second thought, forget it. I've lost interest, so I'll stick to submitting new entries (so long as there's something new to add to the database that I own).
Thanks.

I agree that the whole "retail vs subscription" deal on magazines would warrant a separate discussion and poll. Personally I don't think we should have two entries for each and the retail version should be the image represented in the database

You could have sent an eMail first before doing it and said to change it - and there was sure as hell no reason to delete the entire thing. Now that means I have to re-type all that information back out again from scratch. Again. Like the other poster said - I don't care about helping this database anymore when there is an admin that deletes things at will just for the hell of it.

Problem VG has is they have 9 admins, and only 1.5 active ones, https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,6644.0.html (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,6644.0.html). So Trip is doing everything. But they lose alot of willing people this way, me included.

Brawlhalla (

I've tried to append [UK] to the title (since it's the UK release and all), but the edit keeps getting rejected with "Information Already on File." I've tried searching for possible duplicates but couldn't find any.
Only would need to have [UK] on the title if there is an English EU release in the db. There isn't on, if one were present, then this entry would have [UK] and the other release would be the one without a TLD in the title.

I have been under the impression that all Nintendo's UKV games have [UK] in their titles regardless of whether there exists an English EU release or not, because UKV specifically denotes a UK release.

Well, I'm glad that got sorted out. Time to get to work then.

User uploaded 3 large photos to the site when making this entry: https://vgcollect.com/item/157646
There ends up being a time delay on item creation when a large image is added to a new entry, because the site has to first save the original image, then load it into memory, resize and create the smaller image that is put onto the entry, then it will delete the original image. It has something to do with that, or perhaps they had hit back and resubmit, or refresh during that process.

There are two main reasons why you would see NA on an item author:
1. If it is a low number entry, the site was originally populated with data from a few sources when it first started (this is my understanding) and these entries that were made this way do not have an author.
2. A user had deleted their account after making the entry or edit.
There might be some other way for it to happen, ideally we should not be having this empty item issue.

Got it. At first I thought they were troll entries, but that explains it.

So we got digital ghosts up in this mother?
Joking aside, number 2 crossed my mind. However, if that's the case, though, I think it shouldn't happen - whoever submitted an entry should be referenced even if he/she deletes their account...or gets banned for that matter. Just a thought, of course.

Game Boy Advance Carrying Case (1) (https://vgcollect.com/item/28061)
Game Boy Advance Carrying Case (2) (https://vgcollect.com/item/61649)
As far as I know, these items were released equally in both the US and EU, meaning there weren't any region-exclusive releases like with say, a controller/gamepad or an ac adapter. The only difference between them is that they were released in at least five different colors/colours.
I made the proper edits, but just wanted to make mention of this for future reference.
-
They may better of being in the Bags category as they are branded for multiple systems. Also, Nintendo did not make these, the manufacturer's name should be first in the title and not Nintendo.

1. You do not put [EU] in a title for a game in an [EU] category.
2. The item was a dupe.
-
Yeah, I realized the [EU] bit just now, but you beat me to it. It was already in the description, I just didn't remove it.
What's the correct listing, because my first thought was dupe as well, but I couldn't find a Wii U [EU] version. Searching on my phone is a pain sometimes.
EDIT: N/m found it.

There were 3 entries, and I merged those dupes. The correct item did have [UK] in the title where it wasn't needed, so it was removed.

I submitted cover and back art for Fifa 14 for the Wii (NA) and it was rejected. This was a Mexico-only release, so either the cover art already there is a mockup or what the cover art would have been if it were released in the States and Canada. Crysis 2 [EU] PS3
https://vgcollect.com/item/120497
This one is a bit tricky:
1. Barcode is from [NL] version according to google. Barcode of English version is: 5030930092429.
2.Back cover is from Scandinavian version (notice flags above Pegi rating). Probable source of this picture: https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-737319362-crysis-2-ps3-fisico-espanol-_JM
3.At the moment this is probably considered to be English version by most of 26 user who have this in their collection, thanks to not having any TLD on title.
Everything by original creator of this entry.

I submitted new images for Fifa 14 - Edicion Legado - Wii [NA] and Just Dance - Wii [NA]
Fifa 14: The cover art reverted back to the original cover art (which was incorrect) and the back art worked. I didn't submit the incorrect art.
Just Dance: Although the edits were approved, they appear to have done nothing at all.
Note: I resubmitted the cover art for Fifa 14, waiting for it to be approved.

I'd like to add some magazines to the database. I haven't added entries before. I tried adding a magazine two days ago but it never showed up in the database when I searched for it afterwards. I don't know if it's a bug or the entry was rejected but does the submission form have more than one step? I wasn't able to add anything other info besides the title and the category. Where do you check for your entry after you submit one?

Race Driver: GRID [EU] PC
https://vgcollect.com/item/24270
blurks edited this entry to frankenstein one by adding USK rating and back cover from Germany. Original front cover is probably promotional image as it has Pegi 12+ and all pictures of physical copies of game seem to be rated 7+.
Correcting this entry is a little bit tricky as this is one of those games that got pretty much different cover and barcode for each European language area and there is not much of documentation of them.
I did some research and here are the barcode variants I could find (notice that regions of upcitemdb sourced items are deductions helped by google search):
5024866362442 - USK + PEGI rated version (source: upcitemdb)
5024866336306 - [FR] (source: upcitemdb)
5024866362428 - [UK] (source: upcitemdb)
5024866336313 - [DE] (source: mobygames)
5024866336351 - [DK][FI][NO][SE] (my copy of game)
4690241011444 - [RU] (source: mobygames)
5024866337921 - [PL] (source: mobygames)
5024866336344 - [NL][BE] (source: game FAQs)
Gamefaqs has good Pegi 7+ rated front cover if needed:

Indeed, there are no items you have made. It is possible that you ended up making a "blank" entry, usually caused by using images that are too large when creating the entry.

You'll find upcitemdb is not a good resource for determining barcodes. While it may be true that a version of this game was released in UK using that barcode, all of the ones on UK Ebay have this instead: 5024866336290. So that is what I put onto the entry. In-hand or photo confirmation should be used for barcodes, instead of trusting upcitemdb or even GameFAQs.

Thanks for the info. I tried creating another entry and it worked ok. I see during Step 1 after pressing the submit button there's an automatic search for any existing entries in the database. My browser didn't do this search the first time and skipped the rest of the form, bringing me back to the feed page.

If you want to report this type of thing to this thread, you need to also post the pictures. This isn't a complaints box! :p
Make sure they are rotated properly, and try to get that size down. Remember the image gets resized to 200px width, so the closest to that size, the less work the site has to do. Sometimes this work can cause the image to get corrutped on import, which would lead to a reject.

Regarding: AND1, LEGO, GRID, LBP, these are unnecessary capitalizations for the most part. Users do edit wars on titles like these. They are not required for us to have them in caps, as we are not interested in conforming to a brand. For trademark and marketing reasons a company will use titles in specific ways... There is an old directive in the forum regarding this, sometimes they get approved but when it becomes obvious people are just doing a batch change on titles is when they get rejected wholesale. Because it will look fine and then a couple months from now someone will try to change them all back.

I have no idea what release this entry is supposed to refer to. It is categorised under [NA[, The title says a [CA] release, but the cover art shows a PEGI rating on the box.
https://vgcollect.com/item/145254
I also find these two entries very confusing:
https://vgcollect.com/item/76219
https://vgcollect.com/item/93257
I believe these were created as entries for the European releases without pokéwalker. There are a lot of people who have these in their collection, probably under the presumption it was the regular UK release. However, if you look closely, you can see the French cover art was used. But this is not reflected in the titles of the entries! These should be separated in four different entries with their respective correct covers:
Pokémon: HeartGold Version
Pokémon: SoulSilver Version
Pokémon: Version Or HeartGold
Pokémon: Version Argent SoulSilver
-
Fixed the Canadian entry. This happens, Canada (or at least Quebec) will import French or modified French releases, complete with PEGI rating or for older ones it will have France's old rating on it. Also ELSPA.
For the individual entries, if there is no regular retail release for those then they should be changed to the pack-in. You can rename that one with the wrong name to Version Argent, if it is not a dupe.
-
I now have trouble finding evidence for regular retail releases as well, so what you say makes sense. I submitted changes to make the two entries I mentioned into proper French EU releases, which I already found a lot of data for.
Should this imported French Canadian HeartGold not be changed to the [NA] region? And what about the release date that doesn't make sense? (September 12 2009 is the Japanese release date)

Couple of rejected edits on GBA item numbers...
https://vgcollect.com/item/3093
https://vgcollect.com/item/28127
Item numbers that were in place were essentially correct yet missing dashes, edits were to add in dashes and were rejected. I can swear there was a brouhaha years back about the item numbers needing the dashes even though they're not present on the packaging (I know it's required for Sony products per the Style Guide). Approved edits for Cart Item Number in the description field has dashes in the item number.
Looking for a little clarification on this consistent inconsistency, if the item number is as it appears on the packaging sans dashes just leave it be?

Nothing. Pack-ins are allowed as separate entries.
Which is what those other items should be that I rejected the edits on. You tried to change the incorrectly formatted pack-ins to the main pack, which was why those were rejected.

The item number should be as it exists on the product itself. If there are no dashes, there should be none on the item number field. As you point out, Sony item numbers are the only exception.
Using Monopoly example, does not the cart label have dashes on the item number? If it doesn't, then they should be removed from description as well.
So it is uncessary to put dashes into Nintendo item numbers, but we do not need to go on a crusade to fix everything.

I just double checked and the Monopoly cart DOES have dashes in the item number on the cart. The cart for the UNO I also linked does NOT have dashes in its item number. Oh this will prove to be annoying going forward. :P
As for a crusade to go back and fix everything...yeah no, that's not me anyways. ;)
At least there's some clarification to work off of. :)

We have already talked about this a couple of times, but I still don't understand what you what me to do with the following two entries.
https://vgcollect.com/item/93257
https://vgcollect.com/item/76219
I understand now you want to create separate entries for the French pokéwalker included version, correct?
So what about these entries themselves? My edit for the French cartridge code was accepted, but they still have English names even though the box art is for the French not for resale version. Do you see this as an entry for the UK or French not for resale version? The entries should be changed to reflect either of these, and not be a mixture of these two different releases.

Just Submitted a change for Borderlands - Game of the Year Edition on the PS3 (https://vgcollect.com/item/19178), The Item Number is listed as BLES-00697 which is the Normal Release Item Number, The Game of the Year Edition is BLES-00697/GOTY which you can see on the disc image on this site despite it being tiny.

Also, I believe these are not "Not for Resale" as it is in French. So it should be changed to what it actually says.
In summary, as it pertains to the regional releases, for this title there should be:
1. Game + Pokewalker box entry in game category. (Cart image is cart)
2. Game pack-in entry in game category (cart image is cart)
3. Pokewalker pack-in in Accessory category (front image is Pokewalker)
The first is the whole package.
The second is the game and the case, but not the pokewalker, the outer box or any of the other stuff that comes in the box.
The third is just the pokewalker itself.

Thanks for staying with me! I do moderation on another website myself, so I know how much work it can be.
I believe the entries for HGSS are now correct for the most part, although I don't completely understand why some some edits for specific item numbers and barcodes were rejected. I have a bunch of pics on my PC that prove they are correct. It's not that important though.
I also submitted the European box art without ESRB rating for this entry, which was rejected.
https://vgcollect.com/item/159961
-
NP, this isn't the only place I have a "sword" either.
Some of those "barcodes" are not proper barcodes. In the idea that the data we put into the barcode field is a UPC, EAN or JAN or other equivalent number. That number that you tried to put, while it does exist printed below the barcode, is not valid for our purposes. For now, it should be put into the description as the number under the barcode. And it would be interesting to see what value you would get back by scanning the actual barcode.
You can resubmit that picture of Utawarerumono. In the edit review queue, it was not obvious to be a difference, so I could not even see that there was an ESRB rating on that picture, or that there was any difference. We'd prefer an actual front image tho, rather than the stock photo, if that is possible.

The official style guide says the following:
"Games released in multiple countries within the same region/category: No two items within a category should have the same item name. For categories that reflect continents such as North/South America or Europe or general categories such as Hardware or Accesories, etc, the item title may use a suffix to indicate which country/countries an item was released in. Brackets [ ] "
So of course, me being a quebecker and having most of my collection in canadian format which is different from the us, I use [CA] in my listings to distinguish the canadian versions from the us versions. But my recent edit to an item I listed myself a while ago was rejected, even though it's clear on the pictures that it's the canadian version. I think that admin didn't read the official style guide properly. Anyway, here's the item in question:
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/131469
If an admin can add [CA] to the end of the title it would be appreciated.
-
Yes and I checked this. There is no other NFR in the db already. So this does not need to have [CA] put onto it. It is in the description already where it was available.
If there is a US version of this, it should be in the db and then you can put CA onto 131469.
-
Thanks for your reply. Sorry for saying you didn't read your own rules lol, now I understand why it was rejected. I searched for an american version of this UMD on the internet but didn't find a single picture, only canadian versions. But I did find the american PSP Assassin's Creed edition box, where the movie is bundled, so it does exist. If any american in here has the bundle, I recommend them to submit their version of the movie in the database.
Edit: I would also like to announce that I will scan all the box art of the games that I own that has no box art in our database (99% being canadian games) in a few days. So don't worry if I keep submitting canadian games without an image for a while, I will edit them all with my scans later.

I’m finding it impossible to locate the above “game” on the internet. Could you have the owners verify its title and give more information? The problem begins with the “Fairly Oddparents Enter The Cleft” title component being mismatched with an image for https://vgcollect.com/item/47559 (a real game) on many sites. Maybe it doesn’t exist or was mistaken for 47559.

There is a -1 revision. Here is the cart for the version with "Enter the Cleft" on it. Note the cart number.
https://ebay.com/itm/202649628989
Finding what the box looks like seems difficult. Also I have read that this is just a label variation... but typically the -1 is a second release and it should match up to the flap number on the box (in one way or another) meaning a second box should exist. Whether or not the other box has "Enter the Cleft" on the artwork is another story. And yet another story whether or not the ROM on the cart actually has this game on it.

I have submitted an edit for the correct box art for this title twice this week and it continues to have the “Reloaded” version of the cover on site.

Same here. The entire Staff has gone missing or is on a group vacation. :(

I would agree. :)
What I can't understand is when people make entries and put these lavish paragraphs in the description field. I understand that some entries from when the site was first created have these as the information was imported in but new entries in 2019 and beyond? No reason for it. :P
-
I perfectly understand why. Look around at other video game databases. They use descriptions the same way that a store would, they put the marketing text from the publisher, or some other thing that talks about gameplay. This site may have started out that same way, but that went out the window as soon as someone made different entries for 3 screw and 5 screw NES carts.

During the past couple of days I have been busy fixing many entries of the European Nintendo eShop 3DS and Wii U sections. Many of these entries feature incorrect front box images that for example originated from the North American eShop or are just random images plucked somewhere from the internet. So I have been replacing them with the standard 1x1 artwork that the European eShop currently uses. About half of my entries were approved, but about the other half were denied with no consistency or good explanation whatsoever (just the same Information Already on File on repeat). It's honestly really demotivating to see half of the time I spend on this go to waste...
Just a quick example of an European entry featuring the American artwork: https://vgcollect.com/item/136871
American eShop: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/pilotwings-vc-snes-3ds/
European eShop: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Super-Nintendo/Pilotwings-775615.html
Edit: Another illustration of this issue. This entry (https://vgcollect.com/item/91952) had the correct box art accepted, but this one (https://vgcollect.com/item/91951) didn't. I just don't understand why this is approached differently for the same type of entry.

These alternate covers (https://vgcollect.com/item/157286 and https://vgcollect.com/item/157285) are just covers given to customers, they were not on game cases with game carts. I guess these should get moved to the Posters subgroup of Swag?

They would go into Switch Accessories. And the art should not have the standard front/back like a game entry would.

I'm the one who created those entries, basically because those were not only released in Mexico, but for all of Latin America.
I just sent edits back to keep them only for [MX], since it seems the mods don't consider Latin America as a region (except for Brazil and Mexico, that is).
-
Brazil and Mexico are their own, an item would only get [LAT] if released in multiple Central/South American countries that do not include Mexico or Brazil.
-
Brazil and Mexico are their own, an item would only get [LAT] if released in multiple Central/South American countries that do not include Mexico or Brazil.
So, if a game is released in Mexico and other countries, should it include every country in the region, or only Mexico?
Should this entry be [AR][BO][CL][CO][CR][EC][SV][GT][HN][MX][NI][PA][PY][PE][UY]? https://vgcollect.com/item/163231
EDIT:
There's also something related. Some entries have text in Portuguese, but ESRB instead of ClassInd rating, so I can't determine if they were sold in Brazil. What should be the procedure in that case?

163231 is not the Mexican release.
Also, this is incorrect in the description. The text is not "Software with license to be played on PS4 systems" but "Software con licencia para jugar en consolas PS4" (sic)
https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-749810883-spider-man-ps4-fisico-_JM?quantity=1
But it is not "released" in Peru, where it uses an import label.
https://http2.mlstatic.com/spider-man-marvel-ps4-nuevo-y-original-D_NQ_NP_911698-MPE29080392169_122018-F.jpg
Mexican release has:
- import label on back
- line on back below ESRB "In-Game Purchases/Compras dentro del juego" (sic)
- back item number: 3001880-AC.R1
- different kerning on copyright text

In summary, 163231 can have [AR] tld in the title.
*(sic) used because looking at low res images, also didn't bother with accents or graves.

Actually, we do not know what the box says because the game is not released.
And we have no point of reference on this either for naming based on our rules, as this version is not shown as having a phyiscal JP release on GameFAQs. I'm presuming that this is what it is supposed to be: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/switch/266160-ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch-remastered

I was wondering about that as well, since it’s not released, but it is not the Remaster which is not coming to Switch. I think GameFAQs has also jumped the gun. I’ll jyst wait until closer to release before looking at making any changes.

Why would you use GameFAQs when you can check the developer itself... https://www.ninokuni.jp/switch-ps4-steam/ states there's a physical.

Found a strange one for:
https://vgcollect.com/item/1647
The Listed Item number and barcode are different from the game i have,
I could find nothing when i searched for the Barcode/Item number in database,
So i am assuming it's an error and not a variation
The one i have is 083717200031 SLUS-20089
So i edited with correct info and sent an image of back cover so you can see the correct barcode.
If anyone HAS one with the other barcode /Item number Speak up,
But im assuming its just a mistake for now
Correct me if i am wrong please!

Style guide clarification request:
I know that it says that photos we have taken are acceptable, but what if we want to replace a poorly framed / photo that has glare? I'm talking about the entry for https://vgcollect.com/item/143523 (https://vgcollect.com/item/143523)
I submitted a front and back box art update with an official product photo that was rejected, but the same thing I did for the cart art was approved.
Are we good with having the photos that have carpet in the background, etc, as long as they meet the criteria? Even if they are now more official images to be used? If that is the case why was one update approved and the others not?

Such photos are fine if that is what we have. Something is (usually) better than nothing. I do not know about the images you tried to put, I didn't see them.

Hi, I'd like to bring up a seeming inconsistency I've noticed among the approval of Digital Nintendo Switch eShop title "Box Text" sections.
I was copying the text from the Nintendo website to the "Box Text" section. For example:
https://vgcollect.com/item/121375 from https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/human-resource-machine-switch/
Which seems to line up with the style guide.
But some of my "Box Text" submissions were rejected. Including a few where the original submission had a "Description" section with the information from the Nintendo website and I simply moved it to the "Box Text" section. Although the removal of the "Description" section was accepted. Resulting in pages like this: https://vgcollect.com/item/144616
Was I copying too much of the Nintendo entries for some submissions or doing something else odd? Or is this just a topic that doesn't have a consensus among the mod team yet?
-
Digital game box text can be rejected in these circumstances:
1. More than two paragraphs long
2. Contains copyright or trademark symbols
3. Contains other text such as URLs or direct evidence that the text was copied from another website.
The Style Guide specifically says that the box text should come from the source. This would be the description from the digital platform as shown from the console in question. That means that box text for a game on the Nintendo Switch eShop can only come from the eShop as viewed on a Switch, not Nintendo's website as viewed by a computer.
-
Ok, thank you for the clarification!

-
This is getting back to something I brought up earlier about Nintendo eShop listings. I was away from my switch and wanted to confirm manually.
The text on listings on the Nintendo website https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/super-mario-maker-2-switch/ is exactly what's listed on the switch itself in the Nintendo eShop.
So copying text from the Nintendo website for Switch eShop listings is 100% accurate, but should be trimmed down when there is a lot of text according to the style guide.

Not necessarily an error but I can't find any evidence of a physically released version of Agents of Mayhem on Xbox One or PS4 that isn't a Day One Edition.
The game didn't do very well so it's likely the Day One Edition is the only edition. Should the listing still list Day One Edition when it's (99% likely) the only edition?

It happens this way because people rush to add entries into the database when a game is announced, instead of when a game is released. Like all those entries and dupes we get during E3 events, or Nintendo Directs or whatever. Often time, it is a wasted effort. Rather than creating entries for un-released games in physical section, they should be made in the digital categories only. Wait until the thing actually physically exists before putting it into the database.
Think about this. I believe it was one of the Far Cry games, perhaps Far Cry 4. It was added as "Far Cry 4" before the game came out. It had stock photo art. When the game was released, it released as "Limited Edition" which was then added to the db. The game didn't get a non-edition release until later and as a result more people have the "reprint" or "non-editioned" game entry in their collection than the LE or whichever version came out on the release day that they actually have. It took a bit to figure out that this happened, and we fixed up the entries, but it doesn't change the fact of what happened. And this happens all the time with games. Sometimes (as is the case with Agent of Mayhem) the game never gets a non-editioned release, so someone made an entry, and people added it to their collection or wishlist, for a thing that never existed.

I was rejected trying to move Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition https://vgcollect.com/item/161407 from Xbox One [NA] to Xbox One [TW].
I'm not exactly sure what region it is but it definitely isn't [NA]. I would guess [CN] but Xbox One doesn't have a [CN] category and [TW] makes more sense than [NA].
-
TW has a rating that would be on the case so my guess is CN as well

Someone already rejected my change request so here I am.
Please change the name on this item https://www.vgcollect.com/item/162804 from "ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! (purple cover)" to "ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! (Best Buy)". You'll see that's how other Limited Run Games are handled. For example,
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/152425
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/163160
If it does not say Best Buy on the cover somewhere, then it can't be in the title. The other two you linked are wrong.
Huh? Now it is even more confusing. I'm merely looking for a uniform decision on how alternative covers are handled with the same name as the original cover. The unified unique characteristic for these Limited Run Games Switch releases is the retailer. Look what vgcollect has now.
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/162804 - "ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! (purple cover)" It does not say "purple" on the cover.
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/163160 - "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Best Buy cover)" Still left as "Best Buy cover".
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/146196 - "Golf Story (skull on cover)" It does not say "skull on" on the cover while the Best Buy version is given the original name! https://www.vgcollect.com/item/152425
https://www.vgcollect.com/item/152421 = "Yooka-Laylee (Best Buy)" Missing the word "cover" from the name, but obviously the alternative box art available from Best Buy like the above.

purple and skull as descriptors, and are in lower case because those are not words that exist on the item. Words that exist on the item, when used as descriptors, should be capitalized. If a game has a version that is some retailer exclusive, but that retailer's name is not on the item anywhere, we should not put it as a descriptor. If you found the item at a garage sale, and had no knowledge that it was an item only sold at Best Buy, you could not know this by looking at it. It is fine to put into description that the item is a specific retailer exclusive.
We need better descriptors for those examples, but the ToeJam and Earl is probably easiest because there is a color difference. Golf Story seems quite difficult for me to think of how to name it. Not having played the game, I do not know if the two characters on each cover have specific names. if so, then we can use their names in the descriptor, similar to how we handle the variants for Lunar releases.
Let's see if we can figure it out together, let us know what ideas you have for how to name these.
-
My vote is Limited Run Games items sold through LRG get the name with no descriptor while retailer exclusives get the name plus a descriptor. Three examples
1) Golf Story
2) Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove!
3) Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
and
1) Golf Story (Best Buy cover) - "Best Buy" is only capitalized because it is a proper noun not because it is text on the cover art. "cover" is lowercase.
2) Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove! (Best Buy cover)
3) Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (Best Buy cover)
I'll agree on your garage sale point; however, in that case both the LRG and retailer versions require descriptors. After all, how would the same person know an item only sold at limitedrungames.com? You are looking at
1) Golf Story (golfer on cover)
2) Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove! (red cover)
3) Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (castle on cover)
and
1) Golf Story (skull on cover)
2) Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove! (purple cover)
3) Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (people on cover)
The first set looks a lot cleaner because the title shows the primary edition and the descriptor style in the title is uniform. The second set helps someone who doesn't want to research multiple covers.
-
Having descriptors on both is not a problem.
For the ones sold at Best Buy, are there any labels on the outer shrinkwrap?

Edit got rejected due to "incorrect artwork". Reason? You know the cover has a reversible artwork and this is one of those two sides?
-
Since the item can be found in sealed condition with each side of the cover facing outwards, there needs to be separate entries.

Why would it be a joke. It is done for other items.
Otherwise, people will constantly be trying to change the artwork on the entry... which is what used to happen before we consider them to be a variation.
But for clarification: It is only a variation we recognize because the side of the cover being shown is that way on a sealed sample. Games that have reversible covers, but are were not sold with the alternate cover facing out at retail, are not recognized as a variation.

Yeah it's been that way ever since LRG started doing the reversible cover thing. I still don't 100% agree with it but I can see why someone would want to have both versions documented on the site. Here are the thoughts I made at the time https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,6763.msg127700.html#msg127700

Region/country of where the alt-title comes from, whether using a TLD or language descriptor, is not to be used there.

Region/country of where the alt-title comes from, whether using a TLD or language descriptor, is not to be used there.
So if I'm understanding right, the region tacked on the end is the problem?
"Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Master of the Cards [EU]" should just be "Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: Master of the Cards" then, correct (without quotation marks obviously)?
If so, then I've run into another issue where mods aren't on the same page. Previously I've been submitting edits on alt names and they were getting rejected by a mod because I was leaving the country/region in parenthesis "( )" instead of brackets "[ ]" but apparently the correct way this whole time was no country/region tacked on at all eh? :P

I believe it’s ok to have the bit on the end as long as it is a variation within the region, like having [CA] on the end of the North American release because it has both English and French on the cover.

It doesn't fit what is laid out in the Style Guide. If you want to have consideration to use alt-name field to use region coding of some sort, you can request it here:

I try not to trust online store-fronts regarding what something actually looks like, unless it is undoubtedly using a photo of an actual item and not a stock photo/mockup or composite. And the places for finding such "proof" end up being on sites like Ebay or other classifieds websites.

Hey, I have a concern about Micro Mages for NES: https://vgcollect.com/item/165639
Basically, the game is a Kickstarted homebrew released in several formats (digital on Steam, a NES rom was officially delivered to backers, and the game on a NES cartrigde is being sent to backers at the moment).
An important point is that the cartridge is compatible with every NES as is, i.e. not subject to region-lock.
So, no matter where you live and on which NES you play, you can play this game.
As a consequence, you have one and only version for the whole world (no sense to make, say, a EU alternative for this entry as this would be the same exact version of the game).
From there I feel it’s kind of tricky to decide a region for the game. The version I linked here is for the US NES.
The fact is the studio behind the game, Morphcat Games, is german. For this reason I think it seems quite reasonable to match the region of the game to the region of its developing team, thus the EU NES instead of the US NES.
I’d like to have some thoughts and feedback on this before editing the entry. That plus I wanted to defend such an edit here.
Thanks!

Morphcat is a German company, and they are the only source of the product. Despite the cartridge design, it would make most sense for the entry to be in NES [EU] section. Make sure to note it in the description.

The Switch Version of the game is not the Remaster.
It is a naming rules situation. Both of our naming sources have the title as it is on the entry.

I mean I understand, but in this case those sources are unequivocally not accurate - what kind of course of action do we have here?
-
We could make a common name exception?
It's weird that it's called a "remaster" on PS4 but not on Switch regardless.
-
It’s because the PS4 game is a Remaster - higher graphical fidelity, etc, and the Switch version is a straight port of the PS3 version.

We can make a common name exception, without a poll, as it does not appear to be "controversial" or "confusing" as with the titles that have had polls. If it makes sense to do it this way, I can add it to the list on the Style Guide.

Looks like it may have been a situation where multiple people made the edit. Empovyle put in the artwork on the same day. Did you check the item page after seeing the reject? Sometimes old images can stick around in your cache of your browser... especially since VGCollect does not change image urls. You can use Ctrl+F5 to do a hard reload on the page and your browser will get all new files and not use any cache.

Hmm weird, the image definitely didn't change before I submitted the forum post.

Jason had done *something* for many of the missing images, and I and others were able to replace some of the ones we had put onto entries before. However, there still may be some entries with broken images. If you find any of them and don't have the art to replace, you can post it into here and an admin can remove the invalid image.

Not sure what you mean. We can't put more than one rating on the entry, so one is enough. PEGI 12 is on the cover and looks to be the same on that mobygames entry.
You can put additional ratings in the description if you want.

Images can be black boxed if they are PNG or are too large. Additionally, this can happen with images with the wrong headers.
Also, I do not think that front art you added is correct. I know it is marked as front art on mobygames for UK, but it is jewel case manual art and not the box front.

I had tried to update the (currently NA) Description of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (https://vgcollect.com/item/7872) with info on the availability of this Xbox Games Store (X360) [NA] title. Considering it was removed from the Games Store on December 30, 2014 due to the licensing expiring, and is no longer available to anyone (especially since the digital download format was the only format it was released in). This seems like a very relevant and fitting detail to add to the Description field, considering it's exactly what the Description is for, as per the Style Guide:
The Description field should be notes about the games packaging variants/ pack ins/ collector's edition details. Or trivia about the games release, such as if it is a launch title, last title, a very limited release, etc. This should not be filled with store descriptions describing the gameplay or hyping up the title. Plagiarizing descriptions from other sources will not be tolerated and will be deleted.
However my change was rejected for incorrect formatting, and I was directed to the Style Guide. Considering the Style Guide mentions to include exactly those details, it seems I must be missing something...
Since my Description was rejected, the notification text is truncated, but this is the (truncated) text I provided:
As December 30, 2014, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is no long...
I'm not sure why this info would be rejected from the one field it seems it is possible and relevant to include it in...

I didn't see the edit, so I am not sure of the reason. It is possible that you provide too much exposition, or the db admin thought the description was lifted from another site. One indication of this would be to use the game's title in the description, or if copyright/trademark symbols were present in the text.
A description like this is something we are looking for:
