I think the answer is painfully obvious since only one of those are actually real. Any answer other than Axis is wrong. Hitler REALLY committed mass genocide.

well obviously but I thought the question was more fitting as a "if resident evil was the real world" or "if final fantasy 7 was the real world" type situation.

And the Empire blew up Alderaan and the First Order obliterated 5 planets in the Hosnian system. Problem is comparing real world horrors to make believe ones minimize the impact on real people in the real world. It's a stupid thread/question frankly.

Fun police! Everybody run!  :P

47/49, though I guessed on a couple as well.  :P

Final Fantasy 2 got me, as well as Dragon Warrior (made me pick between the first and third... -.-;;; )

I would've definitely missed more if it was fill-in-the-blank, or if some of the alternative choices wouldn't have made the answer so obvious.

Nice setup!  :D I see you even made cutouts in the foam for the controllers... very organized haha. ;D

I imagine many people have a similar collection goal. I was just looking for a copy of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot 2/3, since I got rid of them as a kid, and it's ridiculous how much they want for 'em on Ebay. Yet we let those games go for quarters and dollars at a garage sale. :-\

Well the good thing about Atari is it's super cheap to collect for! Never had one as a kid (a little before my time), but I love the cart art.

And welcome to the forums! :D What are you going to focus on collecting at this point? Oh, and if you're interested (shameless plug), some of us participate in various podcasts we put on ourselves, so always feel free to tune in and text chat with us during the shows!

Modern Video Games / Re: New 3DS Still Being Supported?
« on: January 24, 2017, 10:53:21 pm »
Yep, Nintendo isn't dropping the 3DS. As mentioned above, plenty of games are still being released for it, at least for the next few years, it seems. May be the only thing to keep them afloat while the Switch builds up it's library haha.

Though it does bring up the question of whether or not Sony is going to try putting another handheld out there, eventually. Although I like my 3DS for some things, I preferred the price and variety of games that the PSP/Vita offered.

Guess I may have to eventually upgrade to a *new* 3DS though, assuming more games will demand the hardware to perform better over the next couple of years.

Yeah I'm keeping myself spoiler free as possible, not even glancing at parts of a review, other than one that I saw a great number on and a youtuber who says its awesome, so I'm pretty excited to play in about 2 hours.  Keeping myself reasonably fresh, at least as fresh as I can as someone that reads a lot of gaming news.

Let us know what you think of it!  ;D

Looks like most of the reviews are very positive, with a few outliers.

I've hardly played any RE games, but I'll put a few notes about those that I have. :D Also because I have very strong feelings about RER2 haha.

RE5: I played through this one quite a few years ago. What I did like about it is that it wasn't too scary... I am an absolute wimp when it comes to scary stuff, so I didn't mind this so much haha. I don't remember being particularly impressed by it... except for the Mercenaries mode. That was absolutely my favorite part; I would have rather just bought that as a standalone than bother with the main game. It had a nice risk-reward balance with the time markers (though as I recall you couldn't earn time indefinitely, which I think should have been implemented), and the pacing was good. Plus costumes are fun. I really don't know why they changed this mode so much in later releases, as I thought it was pretty great! Despite all this, I will forever hold a grudge against Game Informer and anyone else who gave this a 9/10. I'm not saying it was a terrible, trashy game... but in no universe would I give this a 9. As was mentioned, the forced coop shouldn't have been there, probably. It's certainly apparent by now that working with an AI in games is a design that is just asking for trouble (though, as I understand, it worked well enough in 4 when it was there? If that's the case, I don't know what went wrong.... too much AI, maybe).

Raccoon City: Here's the simple summary... it had good bones in terms of what was there, but they failed to flesh it out, which is part of what made it so terrible. Also, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short of a campaign; I think I beat it in like 5 or 6 hours. RC could have been a good game if it were further developed, refined, and tweaked; what we got felt more like a beta, and may God have mercy on those who pre-ordered it for a full $60. For more, you can check out my review I wrote many many years ago: http://thetabletopcommander.tumblr.com/post/86913047142/review-resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city

Revelations 2: I know people have mentioned loving this game before, but much like 5, I will fight you on it haha. ;) I bought this for basically full retail price while overseas, and that was a huge mistake. I don't think I got through the first three chapters, because I found the game to be so boring and tedious. I just couldn't invest myself very much in the story (though to be fair, I haven't played any of the other games really, so it'd be hard to get invested). I tried playing with a friend, with no improvements. I couldn't imagine having bought these episodes separately for the price they wanted originally. Kind of like Racoon City, I felt like there was potential, but the game was just poorly designed and executed. When a game that is basically made for couch play doesn't improve when played on the couch with a friend, there's issues.

I could, however, overlook all of this if the Mercs mode was good (since that was basically the reason I bought it)... buuuut it's not that great. It's not terrible, but it needs improvement; it doesn't feel very compelling to play. More random enemy generation would be nice, and again, I'd really like to see the time trial stages return. I just don't get why that was eliminated. Also, if you play with two people, you have to be incredibly careful about ammo consumption.

Also, better costumes.

I'm skeptical about the new one, but we'll see.

It's really a shame how weak the launch titles are. :l
I beg to differ, I standby Zelda Breath of the Wild as a solid launch title.  The problem is... that's it.  1-2-Switch totally looks like that 'dumb fun' game that would've been bundled with the thing, not a full retail game!

Agreed, wholeheartedly. Heck, i expected 1/2/Switch to be a pack-in game, not a full retail release. Doesn't feel like Nintendo has much confidence in their system when it's launching with a lineup like this (while it may be great for an Eastern market, I feel like they're completely sticking their head in the sand as far as addressing the Western market appropriately).

I saw a few people mention that their Gamestops still had some preorders available. I went to one today (bought Ocarina of Time 3DS, since I never got very far in the Gamecube version when I borrowed it from a friend) and asked one of the guys working if they had any. That GameStop had already sold out of all their preorders. Also, a fun tidbit of info, He said that different GameStops are being allocated various numbers of preorders, so if your local one is sold out, others might still be viable.

I was surprised when He said that He didn't think inventory would be an issue. I mean, this IS Nintendo after all... :P

Just a slight fix, just because I'm nit-picky about this little bit.  ;D Nintendo noted that most games will be region free, not necessarily all. Obviously that is nitpicking, but it's got me curious as to what games wouldn't be region-free, and why (money matters, I assume). Sorry, but that little detail has me curious why they didn't say that all of them would be region free... ???

Great list! I am pleased to see you put all my favorites on the list haha. ;D

Overall I felt the presentation wasn't bad, but I would've liked to hear more about the technical specs of the console. I'll be very interested to see how viable it is as a handheld, since Sony had to go all old-yeller on the Vita... :-\

I think we'll have lots more details coming very soon for the nitty gritty.  Already I'd probably say it's better than the Vita, since it doesn't use proprietary memory cards and it can be used on the TV instantly rather than relying on cross share lol Bigger screen, does 720p on the go, 1080 on the tv, multi-touch capacitive and all the control features allow you to play it any way you want.  Use it like a handheld.  Prop it up with the kickstand and play with joycons separately, or just one, or use it with the charger grip, or the pro controller, it has a crazy amount of control options.

And I'll fix that to say "most" games will be region free.  I didn't catch the part about it not being all games, but I was in a chat with friends so I couldn't always hear the stream perfectly.

Seriously, no worries, I really was being nit-picky haha. ;D

Oh, and Jim Sterling's video noted that the Nintendo Treehouse video announced an online subscription would feature something like an NES or SNES game each month (I think it was two or three maybe), free for members... the catch being that they go away at the end of each month, and apparently don't stay in the user's library. But we'll see, I'm sure they'll fill in the details sometime after the console's launch.

I've gotta agree with him... that's a pretty damn underwhelming incentive. They're gonna need something really good if they expect the western market to pay for a subscription, on top of people already having Xbox Gold and/or PSN.

Off Topic / Re: Favorite Movies of 2016
« on: December 19, 2016, 10:22:51 pm »
Just like with everything else, what was the best or maybe the worst you watched this year?

Favorite Movies
- Star Wars: Rogue One - While not a perfect movie, suffering from some lack of characterization, I had a ton of fun with the movie and the ending is great.

- Deadpool - I expected this movie to be not too great, but it turned out to be completely hilarious and a really goofy time.  Reynolds finally got to portray Deadpool how he wanted.

- Dr. Strange - Yet another solid Marvel movie, giving us a great new character for the series.  I love the visuals in this one, which really make it stand out from all the rest.

- Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them - I really enjoy the Harry Potter world, even if I'm not a reader of the books. I love the movies though, so to know we'll be getting more and more movies for awhile is a good time.

- Ku Fu Panda 3 - This has been a series I've enjoyed since the first and I'm so glad it wasn't something run into the ground like Shrek or Ice Age, we get one every few years with a good story and it's so far been just a great time.

- Zootopia - On the other hand, I'd love to have Zootopia movies every two years.  I think with this world they've created, there's a lot of different stuff they could do in it.

- Avengers: Civil War - While it's not the REAL Civil War that the comics brought, I still enjoyed the rivalry going on, the introduction of what seems like a finally good Spiderman, we got some great action scenes, it was just a solid time.

Honorable Mentions
Finding Dory
Warcraft
Kingsglaive
10 Cloverfield Lane

Worst Movie
Ghostbusters - I went to this movie for free and still regretted it.  I'm usually pretty good about picking movies, whether I'll like them or not, and while I had heard this was mostly bad, I had weirdly heard some people say it wasn't so, that there were some funny moments, so I thought I'd give it a try.  I actually watched it after Suicide Squad, which wasn't a bad movie I thought, but not too great.  I have never walked out of the movie, but I was so close.  This is not just a terrible reboot, it's a terrible comedy.  It's some of the most unfunny jokes.  I only laughed twice, almost back to back, at the very end of the movie, at two mostly nothing jokes.  This was garbage and probably one of the worst movies I've seen in years.  Not that I watch too many bad movies, I avoid as much as I can, but this one I let slip through and it'll forever haunt me.

I think Suicide Squad would get my vote for most disappointing... I mean, the freakin' advertising for it at Walmart makes it look like a children's movie! :o It focused way too much on Will Smith's character, and I was really hoping for a little more Joker screentime and an actual plot.

I'm by no means a Star Wars guy, but I'd say my criticism of Rogue One is kind of like what the Battlefront review mentioned from Angry Joe; the actual production quality is excellent, but it just sort of lacks some other aspects. I think the characterization problem is true; I was a bit confused concerning the nature of the force in this movie, and I felt like the ending part (where the guy escapes Vader) seemed a bit stupid... He could've just force choked him or some shit, I'd think...

I don't really have any movies to say much positive about, honestly. One that was actually surprisingly good (went in with low standards, and it was actually really nice for a change of pace) was On the Edge of Seventeen. I'd recommend a DVD rental if you're looking for something different. But that's about the only thing that stands out to me. I just really haven't been pleased with movies for the longest time, minus the Tarantino films. Not saying that there haven't been good or decent films, but I just don't generally walk out of the movie theatre with much pleasure nowadays.

Everyone that hasn't played the game, please for the love of god go and get it right now. It's the best damn JRPG of that gen. The only true-blood Final Fantasy game we've had since the Square/Enix merge. It even had Sakaguchi and Uematsu working on it.

I've heard good things. Just never got around to it, but looks like I won't have the excuse now haha.

Thanks to the OP!
