Title: UPC conundrum (Ultimate Spider-man)
Post by: tripredacus on August 01, 2015, 05:48:18 pm
Ultimate Spider-man PS2 has a UPC in the database as 047875809291
http://vgcollect.com/item/15869

The one I have has a UPC of 047875808935.
Looking up the one that is on the item record shows that it apparently came from a K-Mart computer. It is also the listed UPC on the Mobygames entry.

I have an edit in on the front box art. Here is the back artwork for now

So does this game actually exist with this UPC or is our entry wrong?

I have no idea why that UPC number is attached to Ultimate Spider-Man on VGCollect's page. That number doesn't belong to any version of the game that I know exists, including the limited edition or versions on other consoles. I just searched your 047875808935 number in eBay, and I got 48 results that only have the version with that UPC number and the limited edition. Searching 047875809291 gives me exactly 0 results. I know eBay results aren't gospel, but it's odd for nothing to be attached to that number.

One of the issues is that the artwork we have for the back seems to have come from GameFAQs, which has this very weird trend of featuring artwork with the barcode completely removed as if that was going to protect something somehow. Notice that the front cover also has an ISRB rating of RP, which is Rating Pending. Maybe the user who added the UPC number would have more information on some strange alternate version, but for any original version of the game, it should have the UPC you have listed, 047875808935.

I would just change it to the actual barcode featured on the box.

Those dates are the dates those entries were made, nothing to do with releases in that specific year!

MobyGames has the UPC listed in their release list (http://www.mobygames.com/game/ps2/ultimate-spider-man/release-info), so it's got to exist somewhere. Someone has to provide an actual physical scan of the UPC for it to be added to their database.

However, evidence suggests otherwise... so I would change it to the more common UPC unless another actual copy shows up.

I made an edit to change the barcode and the back-scan.
