Title: Video Game Prices
Post by: polestar1978 on August 22, 2023, 12:26:02 pm
Anyone would like to know what's the 10 most rare games in your collection, and also a quick note: I discovered the E.T. 2600 game selling for $1,000,000 on eBay.

I discovered the E.T. 2600 game selling for $1,000,000 on eBay.

I'm pretty sure you didn't find THE E.T. 2600 game, but you found A E.T. 2600 game being sold for that price as, doing a quick look on eBay, I found dozens being sold for US$20 or less... Haha

Also, "expensive" does not necessarily mean "rare". There are many Neo Geo AES games that are pretty easy to find and still expensive as hell.

I mean looking it up myself a sealed graded copy of ET went for $274.99 on August 3rd according to ebay

Most expensive a graded copy seems to have gone for is $800 in october 2021, then the price fell off a cliff.

Gaming prices have been fluctuating pretty regularly over the last few years. I've seen a few in my collection go over the $200 mark but my more expensive ones are hovering between $100-$150 at the moment. Game values seem to have plummeted recently -- based on https://www.pricecharting.com/ (https://www.pricecharting.com/)

 - Ninja Turtles Hyperstone Heist (Genesis)
 - Lost World Jurassic Park (Genesis)
 - Zelda Twilight Princess (Gamecube)
 - Dino Crisis 2 (PS1)
 - Parasite Eve 2 (PS1)
 - Mario 3D All-Stars (Switch) -- New/Sealed -- Just broke the $100 barrier.

Of course, with the exception of Mario 3D All-Stars, I have these in my collection because I really enjoyed the games and wanted to continue playing them. I bought Mario for two reasons, 1. Mario Sunshine in HD if I ever wanted to replay. 2. Nintendo confirmed they were doing a limited printing of these, thus ensuring the game would skyrocket in price.

Well as someone who's into game collecting and stuff as most of us here are, game prices are weird because of how they fluctuate. I'm kinda young so I don't have many rare games in my collection. The 6 (because if I go to 10 I'm just diving into ""recent"" switch games) most expensive items (not including consoles) I have are.... (all prices are based on pricecharting.com)

- Super Mario 3D All-Stars (78.23 yeah you could probably guess that)
- Joker Amiibo (70.55)
- Mario Party Advance PAL Version (59.32)
- Kirby's Dream Collection (53.00 but I swear this was like 60.00 a few weeks ago or something)
- Tomodachi Life [Nintendo Selects] (49.99)
- Kirby Canvas Curse (19.99)

I don't really have any sealed or new games as I wanna play every game I get.

I will never forget how I traded Pokemon White 2 into gamestop when I was 9 and got like ten dollars out of it. (If you're wondering, it's 100+ dollars now.)

I might have E.T for the Atari 2600 somewhere on my 3000 game Atari Handheld console on an SD card :-\

I always find it amusing how the most rare and valuable stuff in my gaming collection technically doesn't even exist. I've got a bunch of items for Team Fortress 2 that currently sell on the secondary market for around $500+ each. And some of them don't even do anything special or look different than the basic, worthless items in the game.

my rarest stuff would be my FM Towns Marty games and AES and MVS carts maybe some saturn stuff.

If games that were commercially available and excluding sites like Limited Run (I just have no idea where to look those sales numbers) Devil's Third on the Wii U is very likely my rarest

I feel I can confidentially say my actual rarest game is Super Russian  Roulette for the NES as that one was a Kickstart Homebrew Project. I don't know if the guy behind the project has made it available since but adding up the number of Backers and such, you're looking at just over 1,000 copies. It comes up so little pricecharting has N/A for a Loose and CIB price

3. Crash Bandicoot "N' Sane Trilogy Employee Appreciation Promo (PS4 game voucher in PS1 style case) last sale $2500. 5 ebay sales, plus a few private sales in groups

4. Poop Slinger (PS4) 5000+ depending on grade, 3500+ ungraded. 84 copies

5. 1001 Spikes (PS4) unreleased finished game $1000+ (5 confirmed owners)

6. Demon Pit - gold variant (PS4). 60 copies. Price value unknown

I imagined if the worst games were the rarest (like Superman 64 goes for 1 million dollars).

I find this to be a little telling about game collectors. These items do not include a game disc but instead a voucher for the digital software. The vouchers have all expired, meaning the product has no actual value related to game content.

I secured a copy of Hohokum three years ago for just under $15, and it's still sealed.

yes, #10 "the set" is purely a collectible. Playstation Network titles and early Sony experiment with digital sales market. Most people threw away the cases after claiming the vouchers, and the set saw limited distribution in select Latin countries, making it a unique Central America quest to find surviving copies. Hohokum and Dead Nation saw wider distribution and were available on EBAY for quite some time, the other three only appeared once to my knowledge.

Lost in the Rain, otherwise known as Rain in western markets, did see a physical disc release, but only in Japan, Asia, and South Korea. As far other markets, it did not.

What about your collection and why is it zero?

Why is that even a problem? Why must you single out users who come to the forums to participate with the rest of us who happen to have their collection at zero? What do you gain from that, honestly? It's so crass and tasteless coming from an admin; it's arrogant and condescending. There's no rule that states a new user has to have their collection at a set number to partake on the forums.

I imagined if the worst games were the rarest (like Superman 64 goes for 1 million dollars).

Oh for sure, there are crappy games that are worth a hefty trout—the Wii U has a few of them.
