Title: Secret Santa VGCollect 2013 (sign ups closed)

Well, after a lot of responses on the original thread, Im going to use this as the official thread to sign up. Sign up from today until next Friday November 15. Our spending limit will be $20-30. If you choose to spend more than that, feel free to do so but dont expect the same in return. Shipping should be considered in your price costs. This will be open to everyone who has was a member here before this was announced so if you are overseas, you are welcome to participate but shipping costs for both you and your Santa will be increased.
Wish lists can be done 2 ways. If its entirely gaming related, you can use the wish list option here on the boards. If you decide you want a mixed list of gaming/non gaming related items, you can email me the list and I will relay that to your personal Santa. And with that, it begins!

Will update this as I get people signed up. Once sign up time is completed, I will get people's addresses to distribute to each Santa. I will be sending everyone their person's info next Friday or Saturday.
After that, you have 2 weeks to get your items for your recipient. You can mail early but items should be mailed on or by November 30 (December 1 is a Sunday) so that your gift arrives by Christmas. Please email me when your item has shipped and also another email when you receive your item. I also am hoping that everyone posts what they receive on here and maybe even thank you thread!
Adding message next to participant's name once package is mailed. Will also update again when people post they have gotten their items!
Update. Looks like only 1 person left to receive their package. Hoping to see more pics soon!

It took me a few to decide what to do honestly. Again, nothing against the guy that just signed up, but it is after all an online thing and there is really no way to tell someone's actual intentions. I want this to be a fun thing for everyone here and this is the only way to do this as securely and trustworthy as possible.

I was going to say the same thing. No offense meant, but the guy with 11 posts really isn't that much more trustworthy, either. At least the rest of us, while we may not know each other face-to-face, have at least all spoken with each other on a regular basis; and none of us during that time have had any reason to distrust each other (in my experience, at least). And a few of us have even made online trades with each other successfully, already.

Yep he is a coworker of mine / gamer / collector. For some reason he just isn't active here...we'll work on that ha.
Regarding the rules - I do agree that you must be a trusted member of the community. However you feel like defining that is good with me. Just note that if anyone fails to delivery we'll hunt them down along with the obvious blocked accounts / IP. Hopefully it won't have to come to that.

I'm really interested in participating, I've been wanting for a while to get more invested in the community :) However I just moved and where I live now, there's pretty much only an EB Games nearby, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get something specifically on a wishlist :( Do you think it's a big problem? I'd really rather not participate than send someone a gift that will disappoint them. I have a few doubles or goodies that I don't need, but if it's nothing that this person would want... meh :-\

To be honest, a lot of the gifts are probably going to be bought on Ebay/Amazon/what have you. You could get lucky enough that you have what the person you end up with wants though!

I'd assume that most people would have put at least a couple things that are easy to find and currently available at retail on their wish list. I did anyway. I doubt anyone expects anyone else to go hunting to find some holy grail stuff.

All right, basically 24 hours until Im closing sign up. Going to end it right at 3pm tomorrow (which gives an entire week to have signed up). If you dont have a wish list yet filled out on the forums or have not sent me a wish list, please get it in asap.
Im going to do the randoms after I close this and send out messages to everyone saying who gets who. You will then have 2 weeks to get a gift for someone, get it mailed, and respond on here saying "package sent". You dont have to say who you are buying for at all. You can even leave the name on the package anonymous if you choose (you will most likely still have to leave a return address however).
As far as the opening of the gifts, its up to you if you wait until Christmas to open them. If you decide to wait till Christmas to open them, at least leave a post saying you got your item. Also if you dont wait to open them, dont post any pics of what you got till then.

Yes, this closes in about 20 minutes. I will then get out the lists tonight/tomorrow. I think 2 weeks is an okay amount of time to get something for someone and ship it. If you have to take a bit longer, either toss me a PM or maybe talk to the person you are buying for.

Yeah it has to be considered. If someone is expecting new games for most systems with a $20-30 limit, they are going to be disappointed.

Guess I should've asked this earlier... but how do people feel about getting a used game as a gift? I mean, I guess since some of the items on the wish list might be for older systems, I guess it'd be okay?
A lot of people will be asking for games for older systems, I wouldn't try to get anything new since it would cost a lot.
I think what matters is that the item is in good shape, not so much that it's new.

Old is okay for me. But I already specified in my personal wishlist I sent that condition isn't a huge deal to me as long as the game works and the label (in a cartridge's case) is intact.

I'm the same way; I put stuff on my wishlist old and new that was about $20-30 or less. I also tried to specify that I'm totally ok with used items as long as they were complete (box, artwork, manual, game).

i'm pretty picky about things being CIB, too, so I feel ya. That's happened to me a few times through eBay (not as described), and the sellers I dealt with were apologetic and gave a partial refund if anything. But if I saw it in the store and the manual was missing, I wouldn't have made the purchase at all. so lame, and a waste of a lot of folks' time.

I've went to GameStop and specifically picked a copy with the manual in it, only to have the bastards switch it out with another copy that didn't have the manual. I've said something everytime too. Pisses me off.

That is frustrating. You can always check http://bresoftware.com/ ... they sell tons of manuals. Maybe contact the seller and have them refund the difference if you find one.

Ha! That's never happened to me. Whatever I pick up on the floor, they give me that version. The only times I've had issues is when I try to ask for stuff that's kept behind the desk. So lame - they shouldn't be toying with you like that.

I've had certain employees at certain stores *attempt* to do the same thing with me.
I can be pretty verbally scathing, sarcastic, acerbic, condescending, angered, insulting, demeaning, loud, nasty, and just plain old mean (yes, all at the same time:) + I'm over 6 feet, decently-built, and (I've been told that I) come across as looking/coming-of as being pretty intimidating/menacing several times...
...TL;DR = I've yet to have any one employee ever try this on me more than once :o

I don't know where post offices are where I live now (I've used google maps but it quickly became complicated for nothing, long story...), so I was waiting for this week-end to ship my package. I'll be spending the week-end in Quebec City, which I know fairly more, so it'll be less of a hassle for me. Sorry for the giftee who will get it a week later :P

Im keeping a checklist here at the house of who has who, when each person was notified of the person's mailing address and wish list and then will add a mark when items ship and when items are received.

I think that's getting into some iffy territory. Not everyone has the same tastes. For example, Metal Gear Solid is like the greatest game ever made in a lot of people's eyes, but I personally find it bores me to freaking tears.
If you're gonna do that. I'd at least check the person's collection. First of all to see if they already have the item or not. Secondly to see what their tastes in games are. And finally, to check and see if it's on their wishlist.

Haha, the waiting will be easier on my part then, since I won't have a choice at all :) It's actually not a bad thing, since my boyfriend and I decided that we don't give each other anything this year (we bought a lot of household stuff recently, so this will be the presents haha), and my parents gave us a Wii U in advance, so I wouldn't have anything to unwrap at Christmas if I didn't have my SS's gift. I'm happier about it now ;D

Ha! That's pretty clever, actually.
The bf got me a tiny Charlie Brown Christmas tree - the first xmas tree I've had in a long time. I'm looking forward to trying to put the Secret Santa gift under it (hopefully not too big!) and thinking up decorations for it. I've never threaded popcorn together, but maybe I'll try that.
Are the controllers too heavy at all? Or are they the older lighter ones?

Since they are broken, just take out the board on the inside and glue the buttons in place. Will eliminate most of the weight. Should end up being pretty close to the weight of some of those bigger ornaments that way. Im going to do that this year. I got a box full of crap controllers.

Got mine today, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised!
I got the game I actually least expected to get off my list, and thanks to my Secret Santa I know have Megadeth's greatest album in my music collection once again! (And it was a brand-spanking-new remastered copy!) I'm listening to it right now as I type this.
Xenogears was also complete, and not even a Greatest Hits version!

I'd rather you saw/read this so you'll know more about the game (and the likelihood of you're liking it or not) instead of just buying it completely blindly, on my recommendation alone.

To avoid long shipping times, I bought my gift in eBay, near my giftee's location and I am very glad to know he received it ;D I hope the invoice wasn't included in the package! :P

I couldn't stand it for really long, a few hours after I arrived at my parents' I had to open my secret santa's gift :P I got a brand new Epic Mickey for the Wii! It's been on my wishlist for quite some time, and I can finally check it from the list! I'll have to try this when I get back home after the holidays.

Lol you guys are crazy. I had 4 different secret Santas this year (3 of them were great ... one of them was a total letdown but thats another story). Those gifts waited long enough for me to find a knife to cut that thing open!!!! :)
Hopefully Naicigam gets his gift soon and this will be a 100% success. Silly Argentina holding up our process. Ill start the reveal thread tomorrow (that way if Im busy on Christmas morning, we can still see people's stuff!)

Well, a full 5 weeks after Christmas but its finally 100% complete. Maybe next year, we start this in the middle of August so that Argentina based people get their stuff.
All in all, I was really happy with everyone's participation in this and looking forward to another one this year!
