We know that Admins have said that a lot of the site isn't working and is being worked on. I made this thread to post problems that are found, in case we end up finding one that isn't on the Beta to-do list. ;)
Using Firefox, when not logged in and looking at my profile page. By default, the first game (007) is selected and shows up in the info box on the right. If I try to click on a different one, I get a MsgBox that says failure, the a loading animation where the box artwork should be.

Corrected. This was an issue with any category that had 0 items listed in it. I'm going to apply some more polish to it once the other issues are fixed - Matt
2. Individual game entries are returning the (database) IDs for Developer, Publisher, Genre and Rating instead of their text values. Example:

3. When viewing a portion of my collection, there is a drop-down that says Alpha. And has options for Display Type "Pages" and "PagesAlpha" where the second one, only the "Pages" part of the line is a link. Both link to the current page and don't appear to do anything. I suspect this is something that will be implemented later, and if so, hopefully a tutorial for the site will be made in the forum so people know what all these things do. ;D

I also have an empty entry at the top of my collection list. Also noticed that on the individual item pages, developer, publisher, and rating all are showing up as numbers, rather than what they should show.

Things I noticed are when viewing in IE9 I get big black box on top of page, Sorry about the large font but text was getting lost within the images:

Also Under box art where it says Cart/Disc, Box/Case, etc it is jumbled up, Only occuring when using IE9.

Now I have to reduce screen size cause the box art is way to the right, again only on IE9, DAMN IE9!!: Works fine on FireFox and Chrome.

The "Remember Me" checkbox at login doesn't seem to remember me. I am on my iPhone though, haven't been around a pc to see if that might be the problem.

I get this seemingly at random plus a full page of it every time I sign in (Remember Me function seems to be non-functioning currently, but no big deal as of now). Refreshing the page fixes it sometimes.

That is a character encoding issue between the page code and the database.

The accessory and hardware sections are kinda a mess right now. I'll get with the admins and try to clean this up. Right now you'll see some listed under Hardware and some listed under their respective platforms.

It still does it for me. Going to any page in my wishlist goes to my collection, as well as clicking on a category (even for systems I don't own yet, they go to my collection)

Yeah I'm getting that as well on Chrome/PC. Kind of annoying, seeing as I want to do a major update with my wishlist atm.
On top of that, I keep trying to edit new entries to my collection with extras notes and it won't actually save them, even after a page refresh. Typed notes will stay, but none of the checkmarks or other info will. :/ I'd like to have that working, cause I like keeping track of that.
One thing I miss in v2 beta is the option to move listings from my wishlist straight into my collection. It was so much faster and simpler rather than going to delete it on one list, only to add it to your current list.

It seems to be gone for the moment, probably while things are still being worked on.
Dates are still a bit screwed right now, for example, in Star Fox - http://vgcollect.com/item/8424 - 3 0 1993, I'm guessing that should say March 1993. There also doesn't seem to be an option to see how many people have the game, and who has it...

I tried to edit a post. It duplicated my original post and added it to the end of the thread (like a new post). I deleted the duplicated post. But editing a post creates a new post.

Okay I think I fixed the viewing of the wish lists and sell lists once and for all.
Now going to work on the submit and edit pages!

My choice - Directly under the game image on the far right side of the screen. It will be in a perfect spot for anyone who just logs into the collect section.

I'm not sure... having the "Add item" button is what made people add lots of dupes. Maybe somewhere else?

How about having the "Add New Item" button only on the search results page. That way, people will have to search first, hopefully creating fewer duplicates?

I was thinking about this too...The new submit function forces the user to search so hopefully that in itself will cut down on the dupes.

This will be were recent forum threads and items will display. I'm not in a hurry to add those though since there are other pressing features missing. It's on the list tho!

Agreed. It seems like the only time I'd want it to be easier is if I was adding a series of games that I already knew weren't in there. But that'd be ONE search, then you could add as many as you wanted once you were on the add page, right?

Not sure if you're on this already, but, I added a "dupe" of my own (added the same item to my collection twice instead of just adding one copy; Hitman 2 (PS2) - if you care/can delete one for me:)
And...I can't figure out how to delete the one copy that I don't want :o
Is there a new way to do this, or is it just something that needs to be fixed?

I noticed that too. I figured it was logging me out each time Matt did another update to the site.

The box on the right side of the collection page seems to want to get hung up on the right side. Doesn't matter where I move the sliders it stays in the same place. I don't know if it's a browser problem (firefox 22.0) or not.
Other than that I'm guessing the remove feature is down for now?

Remove should work fine on the main Collection, Wish/Sell List pages.

Nope only half of it displays. Could be that I am running an old CRT monitor since my flat screen died. I don't know though.

I'm with ya on 2 out of 3 of them...
...I've been able to delete from both the Wishlist & the Sell-list -but- when I bring it up on my "main collection", it just has a "bad or incorrect data" to click-on, which brings me to an "edit/remove item" to click-on...which brings me...well...no joy :(
What am I missing/doing wrong/not doing here about deleting it from my collection?!

I was downloading some games from GoG, and came over here to add them while they were downloading. Only I couldn't see the add to collection buttons and such at the bottom of the screen because the download bar is down there. And I got to thinking about it, and other messages and pop-ups from windows and stuff appear down there as well.
Maybe having the buttons pop-up in a smaller window, or on top of the window instead of the bottom?

Yeah, somehow I ended up with multiple copies of the same item. I kept looking for the delete button but then I went and relogged in and button popped up and it worked just fine.

An interesting thing to note about the login remembering thing. I always have to login to the site, but never the forum. I'm logged in to the forum no matter what.

Since I'm guessing the remove button is on the right hand side of that panel I can't remove things form my collection. I need to delete a copy of G-Darius.

At this point, not much since the new site requires a resolution of 700ish pixels. I'm going to be addressing this in 2 way. 1) refactor that side so it has a scroll bar. 2) add edit and delete to the item pages. Unfortunately I'm going out of town so that won't happen until next week.

The edit page's CSS is also pointing to the wrong address (the dev.vgcollect instead of the normal one.)
And there's some weird funky stuff going on with the text encoding in boxes...

Also, line breaks are no longer displayed in the item pages. The text boxes have the line breaks, but the actual listings don't have any, so all the text is smushed together.

I just browsed your collection and the checkboxes are ticked.
Any changes to your item's box / cart / etc. details don't seem to show up until you reload the page or click on another item, then back to the one you just changed.

I found something interesting...
As all readers here know, I've been having trouble deleting a game from my collection - decided to give it another shot this morning.
So, I
- Logged-in,
- went to "collection",
- went to "PS2",
- went to "PS2 games NA", and went to
- "Page 3" (the item I wanted to delete was about 1/2 down this page).
What I found interesting was: The very top item displayed on the page, had the 'normal' box next to it w/ the option to "remove"; HOWEVER, when I clicked-on the next item down (or any other item on that page)...the box (w/ "remove") would flash on-screen for about a second...then...go right to the "Bad Data/Edit" page; thus, losing my option/ability to remove :o
Now, 'cause I'm cool like dat :)
Once I figured this out - the race (to click-on the item I wanted to delete, and have my mouse's arrow ready & waiting on the spot that would flash "remove" for 1 SECOND; to click-on & delete the item before it disappeared again) was on >:(
Nailed that son-of-a-bitch on my 2nd or 3rd try :)
Anyone else having problems deleting from their collections...check to see if this is also the case for you...

Apparently neither the release date nor the box text is being entered when submitting new items. But if you edit the item, you can add the box text via an edit. The dates can't be fixed.

So I'm trying to delete Kirby's Dream Collection from my collection, because I just traded it away, and I can't. The details are so long that the "Remove" button is below the page, and the details box that's on the left side of the screen can't scroll down.
I was in Internet Explorer first, then I switched to Firefox, and I had the same problem in both browsers.

I've been away all weekend but plan on tackling this issue this week. I already did some experimenting with adding a scroll bar to that side when the content takes up too much space. Hopefully I'll have a solution soon.

I ran into this issue this morning with Tales of Xillia. Does the information get sent to the site at all (perhaps to be approved in some way) or do I have to resubmit it as an "edit"?

Here's an odd one - I was browsing my SNES collection and it told me I had 3 pages. The 3rd page happened to have very few items, maybe 1. On the 2nd page I deleted a game, and then tried to go to page 3 and got a PHP SQL error - basically it said a simple select statement was broken but really the query returned no rows. When I clicked back in my browser (FF 22) it took me to the cached page 2, when I pressed F5 only then did my page 2 update and the 3rd page disappeared (i.e. the option of a 3rd page was gone, navigation bar showed prev-1-2-next instead of prev-1-2-3-next as before). Also a few games appeared in the middle of Page 2 that *I swear* were not there before (but should have been) once the page refreshed.
Presumably I had only 1 game on page 3 and deleting a game on page 2 removed the need for a page 3 but the current page 2 I was viewing did not update to reflect that. Also, an SQL error should show a nice page not a PHP error page IMHO.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but the bottom of the page does not show up for me so I can't see the buttons at the bottom to Add to Collection and whatever the other ones say.
I don't know what the problem was but it's working ok now.

When I click on an entry to load up the Item's page a dialog box flashes on the screen that says "failure" with an ok button but before I can react it vanishes again and takes me to the page I wanted.

When I click on an entry to load up the Item's page a dialog box flashes on the screen that says "failure" with an ok button but before I can react it vanishes again and takes me to the page I wanted.

It has to be something with my PC at work. Cause at home I have no errors at all. Must be a cache issue.

It happens to me too but only when clicking on an item from my collection or wish list and only if I open it in the same tab.

Don't know if it's been reported yet (or if it's just me), but when I add a new item and fill out the UPC and description sections the data seems to be lost in the interwebs after clicking submit. The item shows up, photos are there, just no description or UPC.

I've been going through my records and adding some stuff. But I notice that not everything is saved when I submit. Only name (not alt name), genre, platform, release type and the picture is saved. In this particular entry, I also added the item number, release date and barcode but they don't show up.

Did you add them when submitting a new item, or did you add them as an edit?
The only things that get saved on new items right now are the title, alternate title, images, platform, release type, and rating. Everything else is not saved.
If you submit an edit immediately after it'll go into the queue and I can approve it then.

Yeah it was on a submit. When I get back to adding games I'll take a look at it then.

I just signed up for an account — really nice site by the way...
I can also verify the flash of the "Failure" error message when clicking on a game title from the "my collection" page. It happened the first time I added a game to the list while I was poking around seeing if this is a better way to list my several hundred game collection vs the Google spreadsheet I keep them in now.

The error happened to me in FireFox for OS X and didn't happen when I switched to Safari.

Hmm. I'll have to dig deeper in to that one. That is a generic response from an ajax call that is made. I should update it with a more meaningful response so we can get to the bottom of it.

I did notice the box artwork image on the right would replace itself with a loader gif image at the same time the error popped up — and then it would quickly load the description page for the game, as if there were no error.

Okay, Pimper, what country are you from? I'm seeing — pop up in all your posts and I have no idea what character set you're using.

I would assume it is an — (em dash).
Looks fine in my browser but if the characters don't get converted to their ascii equivalents (— or &8212;) then they sometimes look weird in certain browsers. I also know certain hosting platforms will cause this when characters are not encoded with their html ascii counterparts.

Great, my Firefox kept encoding the forum in Western instead of Unicode. I changed that and it looks fine now.

The "Remember Me" checkbox at login doesn't seem to remember me. I am on my iPhone though, haven't been around a pc to see if that might be the problem.
Quoting this. Although maybe not a big deal (some sites are like this), session isn't kept for multiple PCs. So if I use the main site from work, I have to log in at home and vice-versa. The forum, however, does not behave this way... instead with the forum I remain logged in from either PC.

That is correct. The cookie is only good on a single PC. If you hop to a phone or another browser you'll have to login again.
