We've talked about the systems to death. But what about the games? If you are planning on going next gen what games excite you? And list for any system, whether you plan on picking one up or not.
For me:
Watch Dogs - It's coming to current gen as well. But seeing this last year at E3 was the very first time I started to get excited for the next gen.
Forza 5 - I love the Forza series. 'nuff said.
Killer Instinct - It is a scaled back version. And the original wasn't as good as the hype. But, the bottom line is, I am really excited to hear c-c-c-c-combo breaker again.
Destiny - This just excites me. I can't explain why. By I want to play it. I'm not a big FPS guy But I loved Marathon back in the day and Halo. I'm sure I'll like this.
Titanfall - I'm not as excited as others, but this does look fun.
Metal Gear Solid - I love Kojima.
Sunset Overdrive - Looks fun
Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 - I'm not a huge RPG fan. But I still get excited for new Square games for some reason.
-
I'm going solely PS4 next gen and as of right now I'm going to be getting:
Watch Dogs - I love sandbox games and this one looks pretty awesome.
Metal Gear Solid V - HUGE MGS fan right here. While I'm not sure on the move to Open world, you know it's going to epic.
Infamous: Second Son - I really dig the power set they've shown off so far. And I've really enjoyed Infamous so far.
The Order: Steampunkish/ Retrofuture werewolf hunting? Yes please.
Killzone: The gameplay of this game looks really good. I've not played a Killzone game before though, but I was impressed w/ what I saw of this.
Possibly Destiny and maybe Diablo III - these two depend heavily on if I know people that will be playing it too.
-
i will eventually get a PS4 but not at launch
Knack
the Order:1886
Final Fantasy XV
inFAMOUS Second Son
Wii U (yes I'm counting it as "next gen")
Bayonetta 2
Sonic Lost world
Super Smash bros
Mario Kart 8
wonderful 101
Rayman Legends
Super Mario 3D World
Donkey Kong country Tropical Freeze
Wind Waker HD
and that Monolithsoft game
I'll try adding why later
-
inFamous Second Sun, Mirror's Edge, bunch of Wii U stuff (Sonic, Mario, Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, W101, Donkey Kong, WWHD, Pikmin 3).... that's about it for now. Not much that's super interesting, i's a waiting game for now.
I think we really need to stop calling them next-gen, since we're already in the 8th gen since... technically when the 3DS came out :P
-
Oh, man, I forgot about Bayonetta 2, Sonic Lost World and Wonderful 101. Definitely excited for those.

Wii U
Batman: Arkham Origins
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Game & Wario (it's out, but I haven't picked it up yet)
Injustice: Gods Among Us (same as above)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Lego City Undercover (yep)
Mario Kart 8
New Super Luigi U (I want the retail version, of course)
Rayman Legends
Resident Evil: Revelations
Scribblenauts DC
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic: Lost World
Super Mario 3D World
Super Smash Bros.
Tank! Tank! Tank!
The Wonderful 101
I have some catching up to do.
I do want a PS4 but I'm not sure which games I want for it yet, and I probably won't get one very soon after launch. Which also means multiplats like Watch Dogs I'll probably be getting on my Wii U as well, unless they turn out to be horrible inferior versions of the game like Wii multiplats often were.
-
Despite the press seeming to hate it, I'm looking forward to Wii U titles. New Mario, new Zelda, and hopefully a new Metroid that we've heard faint rumblings of on the internet.
The mainstream consoles just look like more of the same to me. Not that using the same old Nintendo properties is new or anything, but at least they have charm to them and you know you can count on Nintendo to make a good game.
-
Well...knowing my track record, all of them eventually, starting with the Wii U.
-
nintendo: there's a lot of wii u games i want to get including that new IP that shigeru miyamoto said he's is working on
sony: i will get a ps4 sometime but there's no games that appeal to me yet
microsoft can go fu#k them self's , they broken my trust once and now they say if this partition to bring back the DRM and other crap gets enough names they will do it and i guarantee you the number of names required is not that high
-
My first Day One game that I will purchase and play will be Killer Instinct without a doubt.
Uuuuuuuuuultraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa COMBOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!
More than 15 years to wait for a sequel ;D
After that ... Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4 (Xbox One version)
And next year my favorite series of all time : Metal Gear Solid V
-
I'm picking up a WiiU once they have a decent library.
PS4: Maybe someday. I still don't have a PS3 yet.
XBox One: No way. MS has lost my trust. I've never liked the company to begin with, so I'll lose no sleep by parting ways with them.
-
I'm going to go with the PS4 as my primary as of now. The game I'm most excited for has to be Metal Gear. I mean, it looks like Red Dead Redemption and MGS had a baby. How is that not going to own?
XBO? Meh. I mean, I'm not going to forget that they are totally out of touch/don't care about their primary user base. I might pick one up someday, but it's probably not going to be at launch.
Other than that, I'm going to be a little more picky this time around. I don't have enough time to play everything, so I'm going to attempt to limit purchases to things I actually want to play.
Not hating - but I think the Wii U is already a failure. It's not because there's anything specifically wrong with the console, Nintendo has just dropped the ball on content. I don't really get their "strategy" anymore.

But the content is coming. It's getting a bunch of great exclusives coming out this year, and a bunch more next year. They took a while, but they're getting it right now.
The PS3 got it much worse than this in the content department in its first year or 2, but now it's a huge success.

Yeah, I suspect the WiiU will be OK. It seems like Nintendo always screws up a launch. States they learned from their mistakes. Sometimes gives people ambassador status. And then they always make out OK. I think if nothing else, you can only get Smash Bros on Nintendo. You can only get Mario Kart on Nintendo, etc. They are no longer the giant they once were but they are doing fine.
Now, I don't think the WiiU will have quite the lifespan the Wii had.
-
So the wii U won't fail? :) Is it REALLY failing?
-
It could be worse. The Wii U could have it as bad as the PS Vita, which I never hear anything about, ever, and has yet to show me a game I "had to own" on it.
If I wasn't planning on going PS4 in November, I'd be saving up for a Wii U. Hell, I'll prolly pick up X and a few other Wii U games that interest me as they come out. Just so I don't have to search them out down the road.
-
I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan, but they seem to be without direction at the moment. After the massive success of the Wii, they find themselves in the situation where they've exhausted the novelty of their innovations. While millions bought a Wii, it flopped with core gamers. Those casual Wii owners see it collecting dust and have no interest in buying a Wii U, if they even know it's more than a tablet controller for their Wii. Nintendo has done a flat out horrible job marketing the Wii U.
I agree it's going to have a short life span due to being underpowered and built on PowerPC architecture that everyone else has left behind and I see third-party support being really poor for the WiiU's lifespan, unless they can turn things around with some killer first-party games. Pikmin, Mario and DK Country are great, but it's not gonna move significant amounts of units until Mario Kart and Smash Bros come out next year. New Zelda and Metroid titles are greatly needed. A brand new core IP is desperately needed to show Nintendo isn't only living in the past. This is also why I think Nintendo needs to use its cash to buy up one or two developers to assure more exclusive first-party games are developed for the WiiU. It sure feels like Western devs have already abandoned it. They can change their mind, but if they start on a project now we won't get to play it until 2-3 years from now.
-
I also desperately think Nintendo needs to branch out on their audience. This is hardly a new idea. ANd I think they are on the right track with Platinum games. The problem is that Platinum games did not sell particularly well on the PS3 or 360. I fear they will do horribly on the Wii. Part of me like the move. Part of me remembers they did this once with MadWorld. It did not turn out well.
-
I think Nintendo will be fine. GameCube started off slow, and look at all the great titles it ended up with. Nintendo has always been about quality over quantity. If they stick to that, then people will see it and come over.
-
I just don't see it. I think the Wii U 3rd party stuff is going to die off extremely quickly. Nintendo doesn't need a new IP, they need 1/quarter for the next several years. The Wii U is STILL underpowered and most people who have given up on Nintendo in the console world have likely plunged head first into the PS3/360 and are more than likely going to spend their money upgrading to new systems from Sony and MS. I realize that Nintendo has pulled things off in the past, but I don't think it's going to happen this time around.
The Wii U is already cheaper than the competition, is readily available for purchase, and is still not doing well. While the Wii sold well, it didn't generate enough content to keep most hardcore Nintendo fans happy (nor developers), and it definitely didn't generate enough interest in their target audience (casual gamers) past the initial purchase (give or take 2-3 party games)...it's just not working for them. I think their model is flawed and they are attempting to ride a nostalgia wave that ended 5-10 years ago for most gamers.
I hope I'm wrong for N's sake, I love the company...I just can't justify a purchase of a Wii U. I think there are many, many consumers in my situation out there.

People also do not know that Japan focuses on the group rather than Individuals like in America. Plus the Wii has the equivalent to AO games in Japan, just not here :(. And there kids franchises are also not so kid friendly, so they censor it to make it appropriate for younger audiences so they don't piss off parents.

There's going to be a brand new Zelda in the next couple of years (not the windwaker), plus Bayonetta 2 looks sick) to me

I so totally agree with you. I've stated parallel opinions here before, but I couldn't have said it better myself. ;)

I think the only serious item Im waiting for this gen is Link to the past 2 for the 3DS, Diablo III and Elder scrolls online. Right now DQX is on PC in Japan and on its way here to the states ... not sure if it will make it on the Wii U to the states but thats going to be my weakness for a while. DQVII 3DS is still uncertain of its US release but Im pretty sure it will get here too. Ive heard news of a new Everquest and if its true and what I heard about it, the twitch I have will return! :)

I like your definition of next gen... 8)

i find the lack of star wars battlefronts presence disturbing.
-
I don't know if I'll be getting all these games. But as the budget allows, these are what I want to play the most:
-Batman: Arkham Origins
-Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze
-The Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds
-New Zelda game for Wii U
-New 3D Mario game for Wii U
-New Super Mario Bros. Wii U
-New Super Mario Bros. 2
-Rayman: Legends
-Scribblenauts DC
-Star Wars: Battlefront 3
-Watch Dogs
-
i find the lack of star wars battlefronts presence disturbing.
I don't have anything against the Battlefront series, but it never really grabbed me. It's on my "maybe if nothing else comes out for a year" list. It is really cool that it's actually coming out though, people have been wanting that for a while.
-
I'm going to be getting a PS4, hopefully on release. We'll see if I can manage to snatch up a preorder when I get back home.
Watch Dogs
Infamous: Second Son
Destiny
Knack
Drive Club
Those are the games I'm gonna get. I'm also gonna get the next FF game but I'll just keep it sealed. I'm not into FF MMOs, especially on a console. I'll just get it for completion sake.
I'm really looking forward to the indie games though. I've backed the game Liege on Kickstarter because he will be offering a PS4 copy. Exciting times, maybe i can release a game *dreams*

I can't wait for it to be released, I have been following rumors for years now. Back when the first two came out I used to stay at a friends house all day during the summer while my mom worked and we would play Battlefront nonstop on PS2. Still play a bit on PC, I was surprised there is a good sized community playing BF2 (First one got shut down not to long ago). Not sure why I love it so much, usually I don't care for shooters.

So far:
Watch Dogs
The Division
Final Fantasy XV
Metal Gear Solid V
Kind of less than I had expected.... If I end up picking up an Xone in the first year then maybel Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon, and D4....
