what was the first game you ever completed???
the first game i ever completed was paper mario for the N64, this game was so difficult that i think that was the only reason why i
completed it but it was still fun and it hasn't aged a bit

I can't remember exactly which one it was. But it was definitely one of these 3 games on NES:
-Contra (using the 30 men cheat, of course, and 2-player)
-The Legend of Zelda (my sister mapped out the dungeons on graph paper, we were so into it)
-Super Mario Bros.
-
Duck Tales - Commodore 64
At least I believe it was...
-
Pokemon snap...

Guerrilla War on NES. I was home sick from school and asked my dad to go rent me a video game to kill some time. He came home with that gem and I was kinda upset at first, but it grew on me and after many hours and many more deaths it was the fist game I ever finished. I would love to get a hold of a copy but I haven't come across it in the wild yet.

We should have a rival thread where we guess the ages of the posters based on the first game they've beaten. I'm feeling old and I'm not even that old...
-
I've beaten *very* few games.
I was going to say Chrono Chross, but then I remembered that I *think* I beat Tetris on the ol' grey Gameboy before that!
-
Hmm, I have no idea, I guess I have played so many games over the years that moment was not significant. If I had to take a guess it would have been Super Mario World with my aunt, Mario Kart 64, Extremely Goofy Skateboarding, or some game on the NES (I played a lot of NES games at my daycare 12ish years ago, but I was really young at the time and cannot recall if I beat any of them.)
-
With cheats, my brother and I finished Contra on the FamiCom. ;D
Without, I think it would have to be Goof Troop on the Super Nintendo.
Both amazing co-op games, even today.

How do you beat Tetris? Doesn't it loop forever, and just get faster and faster?
-
Probably Super Mario Bros.
-
Super Mario World!!!
Second was Pokemon blue 8)

Nah, there's the one with the 100 levels and the spaceship credits scene!

(non-Arcade) = Adventure (2600).

I wouldnt even begin to be able to tell you. During the initial NES/SMS days, I would beat a game every 2-3 days. Its what eventually led up to me being accepted as a Nintendo game play counselor and actually getting to be a game play counselor for the big local rental store.
-
It was prolly Super Mario Bros 3.
-
I couldn't even lie and come up with one. It's a NES game for sure since I don't think I had any Atari games that ended. It was probably Kung Fu, SMB2, or Contra. I didn't finish SMB1 until I was in college.

What was that like/what did you do as a gameplay counselor?

I wish I remembered! I would say some atari game, but I don't think a lot of those actually ended. So most likely it was super mario 1 when I got my NES.

The Nintendo one would have been awesome. I was going to go to school in Japan for a month for Nintendo then move to Redmond WA and answer the phone (1-206-885-PLAY (7529) ... still remember the phone number 20 years later). I didnt get to do it however cause I was 15 and my parents wouldnt let me. The local one was pretty cool. I was in charge of all the gaming aspects in the store. Buying the games, getting the games ready for rent, repackaging them and then of course the phone calls. I didnt get calls as often as I would have liked but when I did get them, I felt cool! :D

That sounds pretty damned fun & cool, brother!
Getting the ("gets to go to Japan") one would have been like...hitting the fucking Lottery-'O'-Gaming ;D

Yeah I know. Its my most painful memory growing up knowing that I could have been working for Nintendo all these years.

And you made it 100 levels?! Once I start getting past like 10, it gets impossible for me.

Looking it up now... and I must be totally wrong, hahahah. I think I thought the game was over when you got the space ship but it looks like you just had to have a certain number of points by the time you died.
But I totally remember beating Chrono Cross and being annoyed to find that there was supposed to be a way to get the "better ending" (before I knew that games could have all sorts of different endings like that).

Levels are probably lines. 100 lines should be the end of level 10.

Eeeeeh... I think it was Super Mario Land 2 : 6 golden coins. I played the hell out of other games too, but I preferred to play my favourite parts over and over again. This game, I just loved ALL of it, so I would beat it time after time after time. I think I would have beaten other games if saving was introduced sooner. I've never beaten Super Mario Bros 3, because I would play my favorite levels all the time, but if there was a save file I might have progressed further into exploring later levels.

Super fun game, best handheld Mario game. But it's also easy as hell, because they give 1-Ups like a Mormon gives out religious propaganda.

Dragon Warrior on the NES. I think I wound up playing it through at least 6 or 7 times, since I only owned a few games, and mostly had to rely on rentals for anything else :p
-
Pretty sure it was Blazing Lazers on the Turbografx-16. Also beat some PC games in the early and mid 90s, specifically the Lucasarts adventure games and Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, etc.
Other than that I play arcade style games that you don't necessarily beat, just get a high score.

Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. We didn't have a lot of games for the Dreamcast back then so that was all I really played. I remember hating Big's story, and always getting lost in Mystic Ruins D:

Hey look, it's the two reasons why I quit that game six years ago!

Oddly enough, I like playing as Big the Cat. I like Sega Fishing. Even if a cat is involved. I don't know why.

Oh man, I still maintain that X-Wing and TIE Fighter are some of the best space combat sims EVER. Totally classic stuff that many gamers will never, ever play.
-
Nothing like learning how to create boot disks to play because windows doesn't have enough NVRAM to run Tie Fighter lol. Those games were amazing. It's amazing I ever got those things to run when I was like 8 o.O
