Post by: patrickmeansly on May 12, 2013, 06:11:16 pm
JUSt curious, what is the most expensive game everyone has bought???  And also if you want to provide it, how much did it cost you????  Thanks for any answers.

Final Fantasy III (NA) Complete - Mint

$110 (I am ashamed, I paid way too much for it but I was impatient)

I guess the most expensive game I've bought would be Panzer Dragoon Saga, but that was in a bundle w/ the other 2 Panzer Dragoon games. If you subtract what Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei go for, then I guess I paid like $200 for it, which is slightly more than I paid for my CIB copy of Castlevania Dracula X for SNES.

Wild Guns on SNES for about $160.

on Ebay, Final Fantasy III, the cheapest I have seen is 120.  It sounds like you got a good deal.  Maybe I'm crazy lol because I would have bought it on ebay for 110-130 but you said you were impatient.  Are you saying you think maybe some one would have put it on ebay cheaper over time??  I dont know the tricks like everyone else knows lol, because for me, ebay is really the only place I can get retro games.

it will be the Tales of Xillia collector's Edition for $100
Unless you count Nintendoland since I got the Deluxe Wii U

Rule of Rose (PS2)
The price is going down as of late (though I think it was $140 for just the disc at one point,) but I was REALLY lucky several months back when I bought it. Someone was selling a complete copy for $6.95 with free shipping. I couldn't snatch it up fast enough. I was a little skeptical, but it arrived in beautiful condition and worked great. Now if only I could be that lucky with a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. :(

I would have to say its my Wizard's edition copy of Ni no Kuni (unless you want to count arcades cause my Black Tiger arcade cab was $200). Glad I got it on the pre-order ... the Ebay prices were up to $500 at one point. Crazy.

My Star Wars arcade machine is probably the most costly game I've purchased. Excluding arcade machines, the next would be the Vectrex 3D Imager (does that even count though since it isn't a game?). Standard cart/disc-wise would be Earthbound.

I got EarthBound, from a GoodWill, for $5.95 and Little Samson, from a Salvation Army, for $5. Just the cartridges though. I, also, managed to get a complete NES Deluxe Set from a local thrift store for about $200.

Indeed. I didn't even mind it wasn't complete or anything. This was the reason I decided to go "junkin" (what I call going to thrift stores) every week.

The most I have spent is probably fifty bucks on new releases like Smash Bros Brawl when it was released.  The most expensive game in my collection is Wayne's World for NES which I picked up for $2.99 at a game store.

My GF said she needs to hit up Goodwill and such soon for work clothes, since she is starting a painting job. I told her to let me know when she wants to go, so I can see if I can find any deals. ha

It really pays to shop the same places. They know me well where I go. I get great deals and they'll hold stuff for me they know I want.

you guys are lucky!   :)  In my city, we have only one thrift store and a few good wills.  The problem is, they all have a local flea market video game booth seller, who pays them money on the side, to hold back 95 percent of their game merchandise.  They dont make it fair for anyone else to buy.  and the salvation army here, puts their items on ebay. they only sell clothes :( so the odds here of getting some thrift shopping is maybe 1 in a 500,000 shot.  Does anyone here know anyone who has flintstones dinosaur peak and if so, how did they get it?

you know what sucks, i moving pretty soon and the town i'm moving to has no thrift shops, comic book stores and only one pawn shop,
i will have to drive 40 minutes to the city that i live in now just to get anything old and video game related

having no real local options to buy retro games, is the unfortunate reason i have to spend more money by shopping on ebay

It might be worth that 40 minute drive though. I mean, whenever I move, I'll still be willing to head back just based on getting EarthBound and Little Samson here.

I love to get games at thrift stores. I must admit however if there is a certain game I really want I will buy it online or at one of the retro stores around here. The most I've ever paid for a game was Metal Slug 5 on the AES... cost me $700
Title: Re: MOST EXPENSIVE GAME!

I live in the suburbs of a pretty large city, but all the thrift stores and Goodwills in my area are mostly stocked with clothing. Game-wise, I only ever see common Generation 2 consoles or the occasional NES game, which I have no real interest in buying. The few times I see more current games, they are hilariously overpriced. $30 for a loose copy of Guitar Hero 2? No thanks. A friend of mine gets most of his games from a local flea market, but most of the vendors speak very limited English, and I don't know a lick of Spanish. Maybe I could hitch a ride with my friend at some point, as he's bilingual.

TL;DR you guys are lucky and I'm jealous. :P

The last salvation army I went to was in pcb(my bro lives there) and I saw Some gen games, nothing worth over a dollar but they were ones I didn't have.. they wanted 3 dollars a piece for them and I said will you go down in price if I bought them all and they said nope. Soo I kinda got pissed and walked out. it's like no one else is gonna come in here and buy those. If a collector does he won't pay that price and theres no kids with this system so why the hell wouldn't you barter with me a little.

That also reminds me of this guy at a pawn shop. This pawn shop had been calling my dad asking him advice on antique watches soo we take a trip over there. I walked in, he had some great old games. I saw will you go any cheaper if I bought all of them.. He says no. My dad looks at him and says how are you gonna say no when he hasn't even gave you a price. the guys studders and says w-w-well I can get that price. The guy was terribly rude and arrogant so we walked out. I mean if your a pawn shop your business is barter. If your a thrift store, You have 0$ in your stuff.

It was an ok deal. Back when I had a little more disposable income I spent a few hours per day on ebay hunting for deals. If you're good you can usually find games for about 50-60% of real value. I got impatient with FFIII and decided to buy it at $110, a copy like mine is worth about $140-$150, I think I could have gotten one for $70-80 if I had been patient.

A birthday gift to myself last year. Goldeneye Reloaded Double O Edition. $99.99
Loved the Playstation Move controller at demo stations for SOCOM 4 and loved the original Goldeneye. So I saw it as a win win Bday treat. It was too.

Most I ever payed for a Single game was $300 on a Japanese Copy of Ninja Masters on Neo Geo AES. (when a game is worth $800-$1000, $300 is cheap) I've payed $100-250 on many AES games. This system is hell on the wallet. lol

I'm willing to pay $400-$500 on a few AES, NES games (and a few other consoles) If I had a chance for them at this price. Just hoping to find a game store looking to sell it at a reasonable price and not a ebay/amazon (priced to sit) price.

Most I ever payed for one gaming purchase is my N64DD with 7 games, modem, mouse, mircophone. all CIB. cost me $700.

I payed $5 for Earthbound CIB on a clearance rack at Toys R Us back in the late 90's never thinking one day it would be worth $500-800  :o
Funny thing I don't think i ever payed over $100 for any SNES game i own. Even Super Noah's Ark 3D I got lately was only $80.

I keep reading a lot about neo geo AES GAMes lately.  Its making me want to look further into the system and games.  I never knew too much about anything neo geo.  per earthbound, thats awesome!!  If only we could go back in time to know what was rare lol.  I guess for me, I really want the flintstones game so bad that I am talking myself into saving up for it CIB.  I feel, if you get it, go all out with it.  not just the cart.  And plus, I think it will be worth a lot more 25 years later when it becomes a very very rarer game.

The most I've spent on a game would be my Double Donkey Kong arcade machine, at $750.  Other than new games, I rarely pay more than $15 for retro games since I prefer to scour garage sales, pawn shops and thrift stores looking for great deals.  Therefore, the most valuable games in my collection were picked up cheap.

My most valuable is probably my CIB Gargoyle's Quest II.  I paid around $10 for it and it's currently going for around $150-200 on eBay.  Second would probably be either my CIB Bucky O' Hare or my sealed Zelda Collector's Edition (GC promo) disc.

If you don't count the arcade cabinets, the most I've spent was just a little while ago with Save Your Chance thing we have going.
I spent $115 on Chip 'n Dale 2.  If it hadn't been for the change thing I never would have dropped that kind of coin.
The most valuable game I have is probably Caltron 6-in-1.  I bought it for $5 from a Game Xchange.

Right now that honor goes to Magic Knight Rayearth.  It was up for auction with about $125 on it.  I wanted to make sure I got the thing so I placed a bid at the last minute of $180.  Didn't realize the person I was against thought the same way and maxed at $175.   ::)  Closing bid was $175.50.

Most I've ever paid for a game was $40-something for Pocky and Rocky.

Other than that I haven't paid more than $25 for any game.

I broke my game price record. But right now, I'm getting paid for two jobs, so decided I could spend the money. It doesn't feel good to spend over $60 on a game. But it does feel nice to finally import a copy of Sega GaGa.

It's an odd game, that was only released in Japan. With most copies coming from preorders. Basically SEGA is going out of business. It is up to you to create the best and most innovative games to gain market share back from the Dogma Corporation (very heavily hinted at Sony). The SEGA company is filled with old SEGA characters and cameos. At one point when you fail, you work at a retail store where Alex Kidd was demoted after Sonic came around.

It is a very unique thing that a company got to have a goodbye video game. From what I understand, you don't beat Dogma. The point is coming to the inevitability and learning that beating Dogma isn't even the end goal. It's about the personal journey, growth. The end goal starts as being against a stated enemy. But then it fizzles out to a different goal entirely. Very Shenmue. Then it ends in a nonsensical shmup fighting against all of the sega systems.

It's a game I can't imagine ever coming out again. It is a love letter and a goodbye to SEGA of old. In a lot of ways, I consider it the last real SEGA game. Certainly the last of an era.

Anyways, I'm excited. Here's a Happy Console Gamer video about it if interested:

Most expensive game I own is probably CIB mint snatcher, but most expensive game I have ever bought is likely some random $150 special edition like Borderlands 2....  Does that even count~?  Most I have spent on a "collectable" title (for lack of a better definition) is probably Magic Knights Rayearth that I dropped $50 on....

My next door neighbor gave me his copy of Suikoden V along with the strategy guide for free.
Another childhood friend gave me a copy of EVO: The Search For Eden for free, because he had an extra copy.

Another friend sold me Chrono Trigger complete on the SNES for $30

I paid $200 for Tekken 5 Collector's Edition when it came out

I paid around $80-$90 each for a sealed copy of Growlanser Generations Deluxe Edition, and Popful Mail

Probably the highest I've ever paid was for a US version of Metal Slug X on Neo Geo AES. It was something like $600 or $700... Ugh... back in the days before I was married and had money to blow! I had to sell my entire AES collection a few years ago to help pay for the honeymoon.  :-\

The most expensive one I have right now is probably a CIB Earthbound, though I only paid $20 for it back in 1996 when Best Buy had a big stack of them on clearance. It doesn't matter how much it's worth nowadays though. I can never sell it, too many fond memories.

Mine would probably be the in box BB2 or the loose Bonk's Adventure on the NES. It's really difficult to be honest, I don't know the FMV of, say, my mint and complete Super Noah's Ark 3D (SNES), etc. Hell, I could have something better than all of those and not even know it. I really only worry about what it costs me....not what it's worth.

i spent $300 on the Valkyrie Profile 1 Limited Edition Box Set, there are only a few pictures of it online and barely any information on it.

Does that "2300 dollars" reflect USD exchange rates or is it your native currency~?  For example, I would MUCH rather pay 180 USD for something instead of 180 pounds....

That being said, I had my hands on a copy of Pepsi Invaders once....  That is god damned expensive....

The game that cost me the most (and that's worth the most in my collection) is Zelda: Skyward Sword special edition bundle. I bought it for 140$ I think, had to get it on ebay because my "friend" who worked in the video games store where I pre-ordered it never bothered to tell me they didn't get any copies, so I was too late everywhere to get a copy in any other way than online.

I find it unfair to put it as my most expensive game though, since its value is increased by the controller, so my most expensive game that comes with nothing else is Xenoblade.

That's crazy if the conversion is correct. 2300 dollars is more than my vehicle cost. Now I didn't get a nice vehicle since I use the subway mainly. But still...

EDIT: Looking at this site http://www.businessinsider.com/expensive-cost-of-living-in-oslo-2013-6?op=1 It lists the typical new game as around $87 in Oslo. In the US it's $60. Is it just retro games that are expensive or was there a typo some place?

Plus, games in the US are cheap. The fact that I can buy a retro game for the cost of a candy bar is hilarious to me at times. Plus, new games have gone down in price over the years. Cart based games used to be really expensive. Here is an old ad showing Ultimate MK3 for $70. This is $10 more than a new release today. I seem to remember Phantasy Star 4 being $100. I think market competition kept games low. It started with PSOne making their games really cheap. They were somewhere around $40 where the saturn was still trying to do $60-70.Then Microsoft joined in the fun the next generation, etc.

I paid $210 for a copy of caltron 6-1. which wasnt too bad.
although if you count systems, I paid $500 for a Neo geo in original box (with a few games)

But i think just as valid a question would be, what is the most you would pay for a game?

Still a decent price compared to ones that were sold higher at the time.  Also, after playing them...  WORTH IT!

As was I lol. I used to search the paper like every weekend for the Toys R' Us or Target ad, just so I could look at all the games and toys inside. I remember my most memorable ad was the Toys R' US Christmas catelog from 1996. They were showing off he N64 and the few games that were out for it. I stared at that thing for hours and even circled stuff in it to show my parents what I wanted (probably half the catelog was circled). I did end up getting an N64 that year with Mario 64 so it was a good XMAS for me.

I typically don't spend more than $50 or $60 for a retro game. I can't recall ever spending more then that for a single game actually. System yes, game no. Just recently I paid about $60 each (with shipping included) for the homebrew Space Rocks on the 2600 CIB and Mario XE CIB and that was for games I really wanted, but on average I try to keep it under $20

The most I ever spent on a game was Bubble Bobble Part 2 with box for I think it was $225
Second most is COD Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition, new for $150
Third was probably Bioshock LE sealed for $150

The most I ever spent on a Retro system was $250 for a modded Japanese Turbo Duo
Most I ever spent on any system was $450 on a 360

Some of the most expensive games I own - what I payed:
BB2
COD Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition
Mega Man X3 - $5
Bioshock LE
Fun N Games - $18
Assassin's Creed II LE - new - $30
Dragon Force - $5
Shining the Holy Ark - $5

It's fine.  Here is how I feel about spending money on games.  Even tho' I have not spent too much on a single game before, I dont see nothing wrong with it.  We buy systems that cost over 200 dollars, so I feel like, if you got your bills paid and you got the extra money to spend, spend that 200 dollars on some retro game that you like.  I dont see a problem with it.

Every one says they would never spend that much on a game because its a game.  That is true and games are not required for human survival, but I read stories and heard of people buying stuff all the time they dont need and over years, it adds up to thousands of dollars so its all good if you buy a 300 game  ;)

Funny you guys mentioned coffee and girls. My mom came up from Florida at the beginning of October last year. She wasnt here 2 days and she went out and bought a coffee maker for my house (no one here drinks coffee at all) and this huge thing of coffee and filters cause 2 days without it was way too long for her.

Since Panzer Dragoon Saga was mentioned, I found what I thought was a really nice CIB copy on Etsy for $75 shipped. I got sniped on a copy on Craigslist a while back so I wasnt going to let this one slide. I wish I would have. Been having to deal with Paypal to get refunded. Im not actually in the market for Saga but it would have been a nice game to put up for a trade for Buster Douglas. Just sucks that its not going to work out that way.

Man, I know where you're coming from on the trade. But I cringe at thinking about trading Saga for Buster. Buster is such a bad game. You have to do what you got to do to complete the set. But Saga is often considered one of the greats in RPGs. Never mind being a Sega fan, just an RPG fan is reason enough to keep it. And it is a game unplayable outside of the Saturn. I don't know if I could do that trade. Even for the set.

You are a brave man.

I think what makes it worse is the fact that Heavyweight champ is the same game as Buster Douglas in every other part of the world besides the US. Its a $25 game complete.

Im not interested in playing Buster Douglas at all. But this is the closest Ive been to a complete set and probably the only set I will ever actually complete (other than Virtual boy would I would do out of weirdness).

I didn't even know that. Well... my SMS set is going to be one step closer to completion. I'm going to call it a variant and move on. I've already done that with Sonic and the UPC sticker. What's a label and title screen, huh?

As a side note, I would also totally do that with Stadium Events. World Class Track meet is the same game. But I'm not a picky collector when it comes to complete sets.

Although, I do understand the US set people with Buster. It's not at the same level of Sonic and the UPC.

Down to about 10 titles for my adjusted complete SMS set (adjusted for a handful of games that should have been introduced into the states such as Ninja Gaiden, Bubble bobble, Forgotten worlds, Heroes of the Lance, Dragon crystal and 2 that I know I had when I was younger that are not included on any list : Ultima IV and Basketball nightmare. I bought both of those new on the shelf in the late 80s at Toys R Us. I dont know why they arent included in the US list).

Here's what missing -
Alex Kidd in high tech world
Blade Eagle 3D
Cloud master
Ghost house
Heavyweight champ or James Douglas
Ninja gaiden
Spy vs Spy
Teddy boy
Wonder boy Monster land
Wonder boy Dragon's trap

Im feeling the end in sight. :)
Title: Re: MOST EXPENSIVE GAME!
Post by: sin2beta on January 24, 2014, 10:12:45 pm
Those 10 are not a bad final 10 to go. Most of the time on complete sets, the final games would be some sports games or several expensive games that were really not that great to play. But when you are finishing with Dragon's Trap and Ninja Gaiden, it makes the final 10 a lot more fun.

As another side note. Dragon's Trap is one of the best. It's Sonic, Phantasy Star, and Dragons Trap as being the best Master System games in my opinion.

Are you collecting the cards or going for the carts? I personally prefer the carts. This is another reason I'm not too upset about getting another region's Buster Douglas. My Sega Card games are primarily the cart versions from other regions. Except Fighting Falcon, I don't believe that was ever not a card. This card-only format might go in line with the game using the old SG-1000 video mode...

Its swings and roundabouts......

I was lucky and bought a copy of Rendering Ranger r2 for roughly £60 on holiday in Germany in about 1997-98 at a games store and still have it and it goes for between £500-700 now.

But I've also paid a fortune for games now worth nothing like SFC Super SF 2 (£120), N64 Jap Shadow of the empire £110, Winning 11 J-League £120, Virtua fighter 5 ps2 £95 plus others i can't think of off hand and they are probably worth about £5-10 now if i'm lucky  :-[

I think I have a new "Most Expensive Game!"  It's something I think is awesome, but it's not impressive at all.  I didn't pay anything close to what these things are going for.

Game & Watch Mickey Mouse w/ Panorama Screen
http://vgcollect.com/item/13000

These things are listed at $300 on the low end on ebay.  Now, that is a Buy it Now, but I guess it's pretty uncommon.  Now if I could just hunt down that Donkey Kong Circus for a reasonable price, I would have all the Panorama Screen Game & Watches.

i try to spend a max of 20 dollars when buying games, but there are a few special cases where im completely willing to dish out more cash.

so far the most expensive game i've paid for is 45 bucks for a CIB gunstar heroes.

i plan on getting all taito releases for the nes and that's going to be a huge strain on my wallet.

I got EarthBound, from a GoodWill, for $5.95

I found Earthbound for $5 recently as well, but yeah it is very, very overpriced given how common it is.
Excuse me.

*picks jaw up off of floor*

You are a lucky, lucky man.

dude, that little samson for 5 bucks is even more insane. earthbound isn't even rare, its just way, WAY overpriced

Probably the most expensive game I have, not counting collector's editions, would be .hack//Quarantine.  I bought the full set off of a good friend of mine last Fall who isn't much of a collector & was trying to work up some extra money for a PS4.  I paid him $150 for the full 4-game set, complete & in mint like-new condition.  So I guess that works out to $37.50 / game.

Counting collector's editions, it's probably my Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition.  I bought just the game at first and absolutely loved it, regretted not getting the CE.  Then I saw that there were still some available for preorder on the German Amazon, and that those sets were completely in English (game & book).  So I imported one for $109, shipped.  It's worth at least double that now, not that I would ever part with it.

Probably the most I ever PAID for a game was Steel Battalion, back in the day - I think it retailed for $250.  Sadly I sold it, kinda wish I still had it in my collection.

A lot of now valuable games have gone through my hands over the years, back when I was more willing to part with things.  I don't want to talk about those.  :P

You are one lucky dude. Namco/Bandai really dropped the ball on North American gamers with this thing. They made it exclusive through their website, and even if you did preorder it, a ton of people had their preorders cancelled or just didn't get one because of issues with their distributor. Of course because of this they were going for like $400 for a while. They have calmed down in price and can now be had for around $200 used, but I'm still holding out for them to drop around $150. I preordered it at an indi game shop that somehow managed to get three in, however they pulled a huge bait and switch on me and decided that they were going to charge me $350 instead of the $100 MSRP. Last time I ever did business with those greedy POSes.

Funny timing....  I just got one of these in my store the other day....  I put it on hold and I'll pick it up for 110$ next week or the week after....  Great game, wish I hadn't gotten rid of my original....

REEEAAALLLY late reply here.  ;)

Man, that sucks - really sorry of them to do something like that.  I don't blame you for not doing any more business with a place that's that shady.

The Wizard's Companion book is incredible.  There was a ton of care and attention to detail put into it, from the aged-looking paper to the illustrations and scribbles in the margins.  It's a very, very cool book and I'm super happy that I managed to grab one.  I think the German CE was missing one thing that the US one had, a coin or something, but I don't care anything about that.  The book was the #1 draw for me, and the Drippy plush was very cool as well.

The most I paid for a used game is ~$250. I bought Bonk 3 complete on Ebay about 7 years ago.

I think the most expensive MSRP game I bought was the Beatles Rockband bundle.

73$ on a loose copy of Chrono Trigger.

A friend had given me the box to here copy from when she was young, so I cursed at her for obligating me into spending money to put a game in that box (and then thanked her many times).

Now I just need the manual & other stuff that goes inside.

I prefer to find my games in the wild, but this weekend is Seattle Retro Gaming Expo.  I may come back with a new most expensive, although I'd prefer to fill in the easy holes in my collection first.

most expensive in terms of most paid? or most expensive in terms of value?

most paid was about $55 for new ps2 games back when they were new.

most valuable was power strike 2 for the ms, been offered quite a bit, for comparison the ones for sale in the uk are $260 and over $300

mine cost me $5

I'm uk based btw lol

The most I paid for something with my own money was getting my wii u deluxe set with super mario bros+luigi u, and super mario 3d world last thanksgiving for about $240. My bro and i split it 50-50 since we were both so anxious to get a wii u. Thankfully, i haven't had any regrets about owning the system compared to how bad some people were making it out to be.

The most expensive game I've paid for is tied between a number of collector's editions: Halo: Reach Legendary, Gear of War 3 Epic Edition, Skyrim Collector's Edition, and Borderlands 2 Ultimate Loot Chest - all ran $150 iirc. Of course, I almost sold my loot chest when they were $450 on ebay BEFORE the game came out.

Most expensive game in my collection is probably .hack//Quarantine, which is around $90 (according to the site I use - obviously prices may vary). Boy do I love that series though...wish they'd bring it back.
Title: The most you have over paid for an old game?
Post by: Warmsignal on August 03, 2014, 01:14:58 pm
To me overpaying is not paying market value, it's paying well over that like a fool.

The other day I payed $25 for Odin Sphere, when it typically goes for $10 to $13 on eBay. I was thinking it was at least $20.

A word of wisdom, if you go to a games convention, expect the prices to be well over eBay. They must be compensating for admission to sell. I recall also seeing the game God Hand for $35, typically goes for $15 on eBay. The prices were nuts.

What were some of your biggest mistakes over-paying for a single game?
Title: Re: The most you have over paid for an old game?
Post by: bikingjahuty on August 03, 2014, 01:33:44 pm
Probably my Tales of Xillia Collectors Edition. They were going for about $80 to $100 online at the time and I paid about $135 for mine. Was a little bummed, but it was so cool it was hard to be mad.

And while I'd love to go to a gaming convention (almost decided to go to Classic Gaming Expo this September), I've heard prices are unreal. You have a lot of sellers who go around and buy up all the good deals from other sellers so they can resell them at a huge markup.

I love this thread idea! :)

The only one I can remember right now is Joust, which I paid $10 for a copy that had a tear on label, while it has a value of around $5 in good shape. I've bought a great condition copy since, but I still own the one with the tear. It was back when I just recently started collecting, so I wasn't as sharp as today on these things  :P

How are these the same?

My topic is how much have you over paid for a game that typically sells for less, if so how much?

This is a most expensive game you've bought general thread. Not the same. "Over paid" is not "ever paid"

Most expensive game I own is probably my complete The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Not sure how much it's worth across the pond but according to eBay over here it's worth about £120, so that's about $200, and mine's pretty much like new. Got it from my friend for £70. Over the moon about that. ;D

Most I've ever paid for a game was probably for the BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Limited Box. Got that sealed off eBay for £90. Worth every penny.

I found this thread, after a forum search. this was after I looked up the following on the Internet, still can't believe this happened  (Mar 2, 2019)

my personal most expensive video game was Banjo Toowie for the Nintendo 64 at $45-$50 USD

According to google the most expensive video game ever sold is "Super Mario Bros"? ???

A rare copy of 'Super Mario Bros. ' sold for more than $100,000, making it the most expensive video game ever sold. Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros." is one of the most iconic video game franchises in the world, and well-maintained copies of the original game are now coveted by collectors.Mar 2, 2019

Wow.
Good job in ressurecting this old thread, oldgamerz.

Well, in my case, the most I've ever paid for a game was like ¥15,000 (around US$140.00) for The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends for the Neo Geo AES.

It wasn't anything overly expensive neither too rare, but since it is a game that holds a very special place in my heart, I will try purchaising it for as much consoles as I can.

The most I've ever spent on a game actually would be $99, which was Borderlands 3 on PC. And that, is a digital game folks.  :o

Physical game, not sure. Anything at retail price of new release would be it. I do not spend above retail for items on the secondary market.

if where talking normal games probably my nm copy of Hagane for snes

I will say though I'm kinda shocked how much musha on sega genesis went up in price.

and that's not only thanks to corona 1 year before the virus that price was also way higher than 1 or 2 years ago what happened for people to pay that much more?

Rarely spend on a game and if i spend usually under 50 at a really good to bargain price or 60 with some new games but had something to celebrate when I bought a minty musha on genesis. spend 300 ish at the time .

10 years ago, I paid 300$ for King of Fighters 2003 for NeoGeo AES, US version. It was like new but without the manual, a common mistake by SNK around that time. I remember few copies of the last released (2001-2004) for the NeoGeo had no manual, that pissed off many collectors. The quality control wasnt the same at SNK after their bankruptcy, (like the Samurai Shodown V Special bug).

Now Im not sure what it worth, I see Japanese version (more common) go for 1700$.

While the game itself was not more than usual at the time, it was everything I bought to make sure it played at it's best on day 1 that racked up the cost.

Resident Evil Outbreak (PS2)

Game - $50
Network Adapter - $40
PS2 HDD - $100
USB Keyboard - $20
-----------------------
Total - $210 + Tax

Then I bought the $15 strategy guide on top of that and it became my most used strategy guide ever due to the sheer amount of unlockables in that game. Very impressive and the hundreds of hours I poured into that game made the price worth it.

Ah yes.... the time I tried to create a new thread of shame titled "the most we've OVER paid for a game" (as in paying more than it was worth), and my topic somehow got merged into this as being the same. I see my post regarding this misunderstanding is still lingering in the comment section, unaddressed. Good times, good times.

Well I do have a new record regarding THE MOST I've paid for a game since the last time. I dropped a icy cool $320 on Saturn Bomber man last winter.... and it was WORTH IT. Maybe not, but still it's a good game. I just dropped nearly the same amount on another R@RE L@@K game today. I don't wanna reveal what it is just yet, though.

I think the most I've spent on a game is the version of Mario Maker 2 that came with one year of Nintendo's online service. In terms of more older things: spending about $70 for a loose copy of Tail Concerto for PS1 and $60 for a loose copy of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter for DS. Holy crap though it seems like both of those games really jumped up in price though since I got them like two years ago, especially Solatorobo.
