Modern Video Games / Re: Xbox Series S or PS5? Which one is best? :O

I've bought every Playstation. I've been in the Playstation ecosystem since Christmas '95. I did skip the PS4 Pro so for me, the PS5 is a proper generational leap. I'll be buying the optical drive PS5 probably at launch.

The big question now is what the price is going to be. I'm anticipating that it will be $500.... maybe $550 for the optical drive model.

As for Xbox... I had bought the original to play Halo 2 with my brother when it launched. I beat the story and went online. The experience was absolutely the worst online experience I had ever had. Couple that with my brother never being online when I was and I ended up selling the Xbox with everything after owning it for only a single month. 360 had the RRoD issue which was a severe turn off. X1 had the horrible policies shown off during E3 2013 which were eventually reversed. By then... it was too late. I've written the Xbox brand off completely.

I'm pretty excited. I'll be preordering (if I can) the normal version with a disc drive. I think that the design is pretty interesting. Looks like an unbuttoned tuxedo when vertical.

Games I'm looking forward too are Horizon, Oddworld, Athia, Kena and a handful of others. Lots of great games shown.

I know that Jurassic Park had both the plastic and cardboard box versions.

And only 4 games per color?  That’s just silly.

It's frustrating. They could have done so much with a Game Gear revival.... and this is what they do. It's classic stupid Sega at its finest.  ::)

Ok.... I'm a huge Sega Game Gear fan and even I'm scratching my head on this one.

That's what.... maybe a 1 inch screen? The size of a postage stamp.... then, separating the 16 games across 4 variants based on color.

Black/Regular:
 - Sonic the Hedgehog (worst of the Sonic games but still ok)
 - Puyo Puyo 2
 - Out Run
 - Royal Stone

Blue:
 - Sonic Chaos (one of the best games on the system)
 - Gunstar Heroes (a great game on the system)
 - Sylvan Tale
 - Baku Baku Animal

Yellow: - I've not played any Shining Force games.
 - Shining Force Gaiden: Ensei – Jashin no Kuni he
 - Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya
 - Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict
 - Nazopuyo Aruru no Ru

Red:
 - Revelations: The Demon Slayer
 - Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
 - The GG Shinobi (ok game)
 - Columns (ok game)

It would seem the Blue variant has the better set of four but it's still only four games on the tiny thing! FOUR! How is that worth $50?! I'm hoping that this game lineup and separating into four colors is only for Japan because the Game Gear is so niche here in America (thanks to Game Boy domination), there's no way this will sell here.

Here's what needs to happen for me to buy one....
1. Single color with 16-20 games. Hell, even a single with 15 games would be better than this.
2. HDMI out
3. No more than $75

If I got to choose what games were to be on the mini... going with only 15...
1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic Chaos
3. Sonic Triple Trouble
4. Sonic Spinball
5. Ecco the Dolphin
6. Jurassic Park
7. Gunstar Heroes
8. Streets of Rage
9. Streets of Rage 2
10. Road Rash
11. Virtua Fighter Animation
12. XMen
13. Castle of Illusion
14. Judge Dredd
15. Primal Rage

Yeah.... I don't know what to think about this but it seems a few higher ups at Sega are once again s**ting the bed.

I'm probably going to buy one at launch, but I wouldn't put too much stock into the launch titles. I feel like Sony has never had the greatest lineup of launch software, and it's a big reason why I held off on getting a PS4 until nearly 2-years after it was released. I bought a PS3 at launch ans sadly remember the best game being Motorstorm, which is excellent, but still it's not a system seller. I don't think the Model X will fair much better although they'll probably have a new Forza game or something to try and draw people in, and I know a new Halo is on the horizon too.

Yeah, launch titles can often be hit or miss. PS1 and PS4 both did ok on launch titles for me. PS2 and PS3 not so much. I loved Motorstorm but it wasn't until about a year after launch that both Uncharted and Assassin's Creed came out and the PS3's library really started to shine. PS2 didn't really grab my attention until Onimusha. PSP had a great launch lineup. PSV had Uncharted which was phenomenal and ironically my only really enjoyed game on the system. What a shame that handheld was.

As the years have passed, I've found that my hype levels for anything don't really register as hype anymore. An eyebrow raising bit of excitement? Sure.... but not hype.

That said, with the June 4th PS5 event cancelled/delayed, it's good that I'm not hyped.

When they eventually start to show more, I'll become more interested. I'll probably end up with one at launch as I skipped the Pro. I expect the PS5 to be $500 as it would be suicide for them to launch higher than that. Same for Microsoft with the new Xbox. Anything above $500 is suicide with PS3 being the most recent example when they lost a massive chunk of market share.

We'll see what happens. Me buying at launch is dependent on what games will be available and what the end price will be.

I don't view manual copies as being piracy. As someone mentioned before, Nintendo tried to stop it before, but they try to stop EVERYTHING they don't have control of when it was something they created; even from decades ago. I know that some places like segaretro.org has a significant amount of scanned manuals. I've downloaded quite a few to have that I found I'm missing from my collection.

I think eventually there will be complete collections donated to museums or bought by museums for preservation. While I have no interest in having a complete collection myself (I simply don't have the time, energy, space, or money), I am making a point to do something special with my absolute favorites through time; making a hall of fame of sorts.

I'm currently working on a Ninja Turtles shadow box. Inside the box will be my recently purchased complete copy of the original NES game with a shadowbox design covering the five games from the 8-16 bit days. I'm planning on doing this for the Sega Jurassic Park games, Resident Evil (undecided if the PS1 or GC version), Tomb Raider, and my favorite game of all time, Uncharted. More may follow, but for now, 5 is plenty. Probably comes up to about a year's worth of crafting work for me to do.

Being a pretty big Sega fan from Genesis to Dreamcast, I'm seriously hoping that this isn't about Xbox exclusive anything. Sega has finally got some traction back from being pretty horrible over the last 18 years or so. Sonic Mania, Shenmue 3 and Streets of Rage 4 show that Sega's IPs can still be good. They can still be fun. Taking those IPs and making them exclusive to anything other than a Sega system would be pretty well bulls**t. Thus, I'm hoping it doesn't happen.

If they were to try a Game Gear successor with say.... backwards compatibility (unlikely), many of their IPs on it, etc.... I would probably be on board. That's saying something considering how badly I got burned with the Vita. I swore off handhelds after that. Of course, this hypothetical handheld would have to do quite a bit right.

My guess for what they are going to be announcing is probably something along the lines of Seaman 2 Fish Guy's Revenge. Coming to a console near you this fall. Hoping for something more like a division within the company being made specifically to bring their IPs back to life similarly to Sonic Mania and Streets of Rage 4. Say with games like Comix Zone, Ecco, etc.

We'll see, but I don't have much faith in them.

Welcome.

Come to list. Stay to chat.

I just joined up a few months ago myself primarily for the ability to have a good list of my games. I discovered after a few days that there was a forum. Everyone seems pretty reasonable on here, in comparison to other gaming sites, which is pretty awesome.

Wasn't quite free, but my brother had a couple Atari 2600's that he was getting rid of. He had a box with one of the systems, 20 games and 4 controllers. He said I could have it for whatever was in my wallet. Keep in mind, I was like 14 years old at the time. I opened my wallet and there was $2. He accepted. I took it home and it worked great.

I feel the Atari is still my grandparent's house to this day lost in their garage.
