I have one pre-order left at GameStop.  After that, I'll stick to select used games.  The GameStop by my house is pretty cool; the folks there know me and take care of me.  I bought the DS game at another GameStop as an impulse.

They'll do this even if it's a new game, which irks me.

They got into a big mess for doing that recently, opening new copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to remove the coupon for the free OnLive copy.

Sounds like you're in trouble with this one. Unless you want a pissed off Miyamoto showing up at your door, I think you need to send this to me!

LOL

I did notice that the box was re-shrinkwrapped, but since I know that some GameStop employees tend to open new copies then reseal them I made no real stink about it.  I believe it's like desocietas says: they opened the factory seal, took out the cart for whatever reason, and put a display copy in its place by mistake.  Hey, as long as Nintendo doesn't order an alpha strike on my house I'm okay...though I got kinda intrigued with scott's Zero-Suit Samus idea!  And the game is not half bad for $15; my daughter likes it just fine.  Thanks for the insight, folks.

This is an odd first post, but I figured if anyone knows the answer, the folks on this site would. (BTW: love the site!)

I recently made an impulse purchase at GameStop, intending to find a game for the DS that I could play with my children.  After much debating, I chose a new copy of Magical Starsign, a game that I admit to selecting for its perceived appeal to my 10-year old daughter more than anything.  After opening the case and removing the chip, I flipped it over and saw a label that says "Not For Resale" and "Property of Nintendo".  I know that there have been a few DS games that were given to GameStop stores for display purposes only and subject to return on demand, like certain Pokemon titles, and they all had the same sticker.  Is it possible that GameStop repackaged a sample game and sold it?  If so, am I in danger of Nintendo ninjas dressed as Mario and Samus busting into my home and demanding said game?  I wouldn't normally worry (Samus ninjas?  AWESOME!) except my son, daughter, landlord and fish won't appreciate the intrusion.  Plus, the game is not half bad.

General / Re: My First Flea Market Adventure
« on: September 27, 2011, 12:23:36 am »
Back before I decided to become serious about collecting, there were lots of traditional flea markets in my area. (Note: I define "traditional" flea markets as open areas that let everyday folks sell their old stuff.)  I used to see people selling old-school carts for cheap.  Nowadays the flea markets here are premade storefronts, and the bays selling games try to gouge prices.  $20 for Super Mario 64???  Really???

Still, a couple of traditional flea markets still pop up, and I can occasionally find good deals.  I found a Genesis with no controllers for $5 and some N64 games (including Super Smash Brothers!!!) for $5 each.

Seeing as the flea markets in South Florida are anemic at best, I have planned an excursion to the Palm Beach and Tampa areas, where the pickings are rumored to be better.  I'll let y'all know what I find!

What did you think of the ending? It kind of left me with a big wtf look on my face. I want to read the manga now, but I can't seem to find any info on an English release...

Yeah, I think they could have closed things up a little better. They were obviously leaving everything open for another season.

The manga is bigger, mainly because the anime series was started before the manga was finished.  There are quite a few characters in the manga that were left out of the anime series.  I don't recall ever seeing an English translation of the manga, but I cheated: I found a Spanish translation!

Ah, a topic I am very fond of!  All the series and movies recommended thus far are very good.  A few others that I have not seen mentioned but I recommend of are Chobits (man loves female computer...odd), Samurai 7 (good old-fashioned swordplay), Hell Girl (good for fans of Death Note), Initial D (for the boy racer in me), and High School of the Dead (lotta violence, lotta cursing, and boatloads of booby and crotch shots, so beware!)  My son is partial to Soul Eater (haven't seen it yet) and Witch Hunter Robin, and my daughter (10 years old, mind you) likes Love Hina and Kaleido Star.  Anime: a family diversion! LOL
