Snatcher (Sega CD)
Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD)
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (Sega CD)
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (PS1)
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete (PS1)
those were the first to come to mind, I'm sure I'll think of others later
-
1. Punisher (Genesis)
2. Crusader of Centy (Genesis)
3. E.V.O.: The Search for Eden (SNES)
I used to REALLY want DuckTales 2, but I now have it via the Disney Afternoon Collection on Xbox 360/XBox One. Same goes for Golden Axe: Warrior (Master System), as it's an unlockable on The Sega Genesis Collection (PS2).
I've gotten a few of the ones that were on my radar already, luckily, like Mega Man Legends 2 (PS1), Bucky 'O Hare (NES), Frankenstein: The Monster Returns (NES), and Einhander (PS1). I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Many that are "holy grails" used to not be when I got them. I don't keep up on values for games I've already knocked off my wishlist.
-
NWC - Just because I always thought I’d find one in my searching.
Stadium Events - It’s the only NES game I’m missing for a licensed set.
That’s really about it. Everything else is either obtainable or I just don’t care if I get it.
-
I believe in my very first intro post I mentioned wanting the gold world championship cart. So that would be my #1.
My top four after that one are:
#2: Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak (NES) -I recall always enjoying the Flintstones games. Games with the Hanna Barbara license are usually pretty fun.
#3: Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (FM Towns) - Not really considered a grail game, but I always wanted to own this version because of it's graphical upgrade.
#4: Panzer Dragoon Saga (Sega Saturn) - Truth be told, I expect to own this one in three months time.
#5: Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors (Sega CD) - Probably impossible, but ya never know.
-
I wish I still had Panzer Dragoon Saga. I had to sell it off years ago in order to keep afloat. Ended up selling Panzer Dragoon, Zwei and Saga as a bundle to pay some bills.
As for games I didn't have before. I would love a PCB of Haunted Castle. Always wanted to get my hands on one and frame it up in a shadow box.
-
Klonoa Door to Phantomile - PS1
Einhander - PS1
Powerslave - Saturn
Demon's Crest - SNES
Soul Blazer - SNES
Snow Brothers - NES
Bomberman II - NES
Cannon Spike - Dreamcast
Power Stone 2 - Dreamcast
-
Not bragging, but I've owned most of the grail games I really, really wanted at one point or another while collecting. Sadly, I've found many of them to be overrated once I actually popped them in and played them. In terms of quality I can't think of many that I'd still like to own based on how fun they are to play. If anything my grail games are mostly all pinball and arcade machines. Here are a few I'd love to own someday
Pinball
- Medieval Madness
- Attack from Mars
- Elvira's Scared Stiff
- White Water
Arcade
- House of the Dead
- Maximum Force/Area 51 combo cab
- Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
- The Lost Word Jurassic Park
- Virtua Fighter
- Virtua Fighter 2
-
I don't think I have any "grails", like there aren't really any games I super want that are worth a ton of money (I actually have a very pricey game I own now with Godzilla P24 lol). If I had to choose one based on a rom I played of it for a short bit, I'd probably say Little Samson, that actually seems like its actually a good game.
I'd probably say maybe a Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow of Mystara arcade cabinet, that has great nostalgia for me being at my local video store when I was younger, and my friends even wanted to buy it from them at one point, but we couldn't get them to sell it lol
Oh and since I want to put together an N64 collection, I want ClayFighter Sculptor's Cut.
-
I wouldn't mind owning the original Chibi-Robo!
-
I dont really have any grails I want. I would like to play Panzer Dragoon Saga.
-
I wouldn't mind owning the original Chibi-Robo!
It blows me away how much this game went up in value. When I was after GC games it was consistently a $20-30 game. Used to find them fairly often too.

The only game that was sought after when cube collecting was easy was path of radiance. was always around 40$ and for some reason hyped.
But indeed titles such as chibi robo and gotcha force where consistently 20$ and while uncommon not many people would pick them up so they where sitting there for quite some time. I did bite the bullet for those 2 back than eventually since along with path of radiance these games just never showed up in sets especially not in excellent condition wich was pretty plentyfull back than.
I'm still quite shocked how I got a cib cubivores in europe for 20$ during cube hype days. Just goes to show that allot of people don't care about non rpg import exclusives at times. allot of people at least in europe probably didn't really know about it just like gotcha force and chibi robo back than.
-
Maybe Tron Bonne for the PlayStation. I didn't care much for MML and MML2 was slightly better, but I heard Tron Bonne is a bit different from those two. Plus, it'd be neat to see the MML world from a different perspective.
-
Beast Wars Transmetals for N64. I used to have it.
-
I guess my #1 rare game I wish I had was Revelations: Persona. I've emulated it because it's too expensive and I've sort of come to like the PS1 version of P1 more than the PSP version.
Next would be Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I've played through the PS1 Classics version but I'd love to own a physical copy of it.
Last, the 2000 release of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. I have the Nintendo Power version from 1999, but It'd be super neat to have the game and its dedicated box and cartridge, instead of the plain white NP box and cart. Alternatively, the Deluxe Edition would be super neat, but uh a little too expensive haha

Nissan 350Z "Test your car" PS2 disc, a "game" that was in your owner's manual if you bought the Nissan 350Z Gran Turismo Special Edition (Yellow) which was manufactured in 2004 or 2005 in north america only.
GT2000
American Gran Turismo 4 Nike Collector
European Gran Turismo 4 Nike Collector (if it even exists, officially it does but is so rare that I couldn't find pictures of it online)
Gran Turismo Concept 2002 Tokyo-Seoul - BigHit Series
Gran Turismo 4 Press Kit
Gran Turismo Subaru Arcade Unit
Scarface: The World Is Yours Press Kit
Korean Auto Modellista which features a unique box-art for Korea only
American Scarface: The World Is Yours on PC
-
Revelations: Persona. I would like to own a copy even though I could potentially play on the PS1 mini since it never came out on PS1 classics for some reason
-

I remember picking it up from a now defunct GameStop back in, maybe 2010 or 2011? I think I paid about $12.99 for it when they were doing buy 2 get 1 on GC stock.

Viet Cong: Purple haze and Viet Cong: FIst Alpha expansion pack for the PC.
technically Purple Haze it came out for Xbox and PlayStation 2 but, there was no version like the PC version of this game. Good Luck finding any copies of this, anybody can obtain an Xbox and PS2 version easily. I got it on PS2 but it is not the same game at all.
Nope Steam don't have this game, nether does anywhere else online I looked. But Steam has this other game with the same name called Vietcong but it is a completely different game. And even a different genre, then the official release of this PC game. The VietCong I want was a first person shooter, the Vietcong game on Steam's website for sale is a survival horror, WTF.
But even if I find a copy of this game, I probably won't buy it again because it was a game I played many times over but my disc disc copy was destroyed by hackers so I no longer want this game especially if it don't work with Windows 10
-
Sengoku Anthology for the PS2
Or basically the entire subset of 'Essential Games' published games for the PS2
-
my disc disc copy was destroyed by hackers
... what.
-

... what.
I can't explain what happen to that disc, just that one day I could not install it, tryed on several other PC's that I had over the years and It would only go up to a certain point than I'd gotten the same error, this diec was not scratched I don't know why it all disc drives would no longer install it, same error different PC's, I don't know what happened exactly. but at this time in my life I was a victom of cyber bullying so I assue that is what happened.
All CD's I had during 2005-2009 at home same thing happened to all of my games, all had errors when installing no matter what PC.

I totally forgot about Steel Batallion on Xbox.
Have you guys seen that beast? It's a much simulator with a full board of mech pilot controls that come with it and pedal controls.
That looks like fun!

I seen a YouTube Review on that, it's looks cool,. :)
(edit)
would be perfect if it had a VR headset that lets you actually feel your in a mech, of course only if the VR headset let you see what you are doing

that's just pc software getting to new. get an older pc or find some find some way like dosbox to play your older games on modern hardware. The disadvantages of gaming on pc with all them updates.

Beast Wars Transmetals for N64. I used to have it.
That is one of the 2 n64 games that I need.I saw it so many times back in the day but never bought it because I thought 30 dollars was to much now I can't find one.

It is fun but was hard to get the hang of only played it for about a hour then gave up on it (I really suck at mec games)I put it away and never touched it again.Maybe I'll give it another try someday.

I saw this not that long ago at a local game store I go to from time to time. Up close it looks nice and definitely something worth a try one day.

Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest for GameCube. When I first became aware of the game around 2011, the game was around $50. Years later, it's now being sold complete for nearly $450.
-
I guess I'll quote myself...again:
If we're going by the literal meaning of the phrase, my "white whales" are Aero Fighters, Hagane: The Final Conflict, and Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (SNES); Ninja Five-O (GBA); The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (PS1); and Gotcha Force (GCN).
From time to time I end up finding one or two priced "reasonably" on eBay, but I have never caved in even though I seem close to. Last year I was about to close the deal with Gotcha Force for $155, but in the end I didn't. I'm stingy when it comes to money, but I've made peace knowing I might bite the bullet with at least one of these someday. Hopefully by then they drop in price.
Hopefully.
I'm no longer actively looking for any of these, though.
-
Time for a remake or sequel!
They did make a sequel....for the Kinect. So, they've done both extremes for controllers when it comes to Steel Battalion.
As for the main topic, my main white whale isn't a game itself, but an in-game item. It would be the Green Confetti Soldered Sensei for Team Fortress 2. Getting it would mean I would have a complete robohat set of the same effect. Problem is only 2 exist and both are in other collector's backpacks and aren't for sale unless I shell out an absurd amount (i.e. $300+). So, I'm basically stuck waiting until one of them wants to cash out or another one appears (which there is a chance, but it's infinitesimally small).

I knocked off Snatcher last year which was my grail for many years. Don't really have one at the moment- I'm more focused on rounding out other aspects of the collection and completing sets.
My goal is to one day have complete sets for the following consoles
PS1- Done
Dreamcast- Done
Saturn- 19 to go
3DO- 49 to go
Sega CD- 34 to go
Jaguar- 26 to go
For 3DO- the big ones I will need are Lucienne's Quest and Dino Park Tycoon- Dino Park Tycoon is basically the Stadium Events of 3DO collecting- if I ever get that one it would be pretty remarkable.
For Saturn- there are some heavy hitters I need still but not really grails- unless I decide I want to get Daytona Netlink Edition- it's split as to whether it's needed for a full set
Sega CD- Keio will be rough- out of all the systems on this list- this may be one set I never finish
Jaguar- Not really any grails either and the problem here is that there are so many aftermarket and releases that came years after the system died, nobody knows what's actually a full set.
I'm kicking around the idea of going after an n64 cib set but i'm missing so many heavies- just not worth it now. I would rather just have a well-rounded collection of games I like.
-
If money was no object, my grail would be my own arcade, complete with pinball machines.
More realistically, I really want a Q*Bert arcade cabinet. I don’t care if it’s vintage or the rerelease that came out a while back, as long as it has the proper sound chip that plays the random voice effects. It isn’t truly Q*Bert unless the characters are spouting unintelligible random gobbledegook :D

Your collection is very impressive a full ps1 set is no easy task.Im close to completing about 7 sets but I have not completed any yet.
-
The only one that comes to mind is Magical Chase. I would have a complete boxed Turbo set if it wasn’t for that game. The only way I could justify dropping that cash, would be to sell off some of my collection.
Once that money was in hand though, I would probably have a difficult time spending it on one game. It would be easier if it were a direct trade, games for game.
Maybe one day...
-
Kuon on PS2, only FromSoft game I do not own :'(

Thank you! It did help that ps1 was the only system I really collected for many years (well and ps2)- My bio here I think still says Sony collector- though I decided to expand to other systems shortly after.
Your collection is very impressive as well- you are so close for 360 and Dreamcast particularly. Are you trying to focus on any set in particular now or just picking up titles as you see them. That's mostly what I do but once I get close- then I start just focusing on that system. Or at least trying to- I have mostly heavies for Saturn left so that one might take me a long while. I'd love to see a picture of the 360- a full set of that is definitely not something you see that often.
-
Debated on posting to this thread as I own a lot of these grails people are after but that comes from 30+ years of collecting as well as wanting the stuff that would go up in value. There's PLENTY I don't have that I'd love to acquire someday but with prices being what they are I don't know if that's feasible. Then again, if I came into a sizeable amount of lottery F-You money, these would be my most desired...

Funny enough I used to have two of these, both at the same time. It's probably one of the hardest games I've ever played. It really is as true as mech sim as you're going to find, which to some people probably sounds amazing, but after fighting to even get past the first stage for hours and also how unwieldy it is to try and find a place for the controller while playing I never picked it back up. I sold both my controllers and the game to a couple of collectors years ago and it's not something I ever intend on playing again.
