Favourites

Super Mario Galaxy - A lot of Mario games could be here like SM64, but I think Galaxy has some of the best level design out of any game in the series. The space setting is so well done and the whole vibe of the game is great fun.

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction - The first Ratchet and Clank game I played so it's what got me into the series. Arguably more of a shooter than a platformer, but the weapons are great fun to use making the combat great, and the controls are perfect making the platforming really good. Not a bad story either with good humour and likable characters.

Ape Escape 2 - Very lively game, the cheesiness is great fun and collecting monkeys is an interesting spin on the collectathon concept. All of the different gadgets add loads of gameplay variety and the levels are very fun.

Least favourites

Sonic Unleashed - Don't hate it, I just haven't played any 3D plaftormers I despise and this is just one of the more unremarkable ones. I didn't finish it as kid as it just didn't really hold my interest.

Banjo Kazooie - As I said, I enjoy the vast majority of 3D platformers I play so I can't think of any I actually dislike. I completely understand why people like this game, the humour and characters are great, it's very creative and has very interesting levels. However I didn't play it as a kid, so playing it for the first time a couple of years ago make it seem like it hasn't aged well. The controls aren't too great, and having to collect every music note in a level to improve your score made progression unnecessarily tedious. I also hated the hub world. It was cool, but it was just too big, and it was a pain losing health while travelling to a level, meaning to die more quickly and have to do the whole process again. I really wanted to like it as it has awesome qualites, but it could quite frustrating and I didn't finish it in the end.

In recent memory, the console I brought closest to launch was the PS4 for xmas 2014 so about a year after it launched. I was very keen to get one so I didn't wait to long. However, as much as I love it my model has numerous issues like ejecting of discs and controllers disconnecting. These made me consider whether I should have waited for a newer improved model.

As a result I waited till this summer to get a Switch, so 3 years. This is was just allow problems to be fixed and allow myself more buying options for console models, accessories etc. Unfortunately there seems to be very little variety in accessories such as pro controllers. Nevertheless I am glad I waited because my Switch has a better battery life.

On the contrary, 2018 didn't have many games I was interested in, whereas 2019 has a bunch like CTR: Nitro Fuelled, Sekiro, DMC5, Concrete Genie and A Plague Tale that I've enjoyed.

For the most part I thought it looks solid.

I'm extremely glad they're bringing back old Pokemon. As much as I like being introduced to new ones, it sucks not being able to to use old favourites. The region/overworld looks beautiful and we don't know enough about it to judge how it will be interconnected. Nothing about it looks any more kiddy than XY/SM, I'd say it's going slightly in the opposite direction. Starters look ok to me, especially considering it always takes a while to warm up to new designs.

Every time something new is shown for it, it looks better but it's still not enough to convince me. Maybe if there's a period when nothing comes out and it gets very good reviews.

A bit of SoulCalibur 2 is the only experience I have of the series, but that has been very fun so I'll definitely take a look at this.

If the question was "Is gamer culture toxic", I would say yes to extent.

However since it is "Is gamer culture too toxic", I will say no.

There are undeniably lots of bad people in the community, from people can't tolerate someone else playing on a different platform, from calling devs who pour their heart and soul into making games lazy, to swatting people online. But overall I'd say it's fine, I'm sure there are many other communities that are far worse. It's not too hard to have a friendly chat or a civil discussion, not to mention the beautiful thing about single player gaming is that you have the option to shut yourself out from all the rubbish that goes on.

The only series of these I've played (apart from Bioshock Infinite) is Klonoa, so that would be my pick.

Also doesn't Bioshock Infinite count as 3?

10
Star Wars Battlefront (both of them)
Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith
COD WAW
FIFA

To be fair we still play FIFA at sleepovers :P

Off Topic / Re: 7 New earth like planets discovered... Aliens soon?
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:25:40 pm »
To be honest I don't think we'll ever come into to contact with them. 2 light years is a massive distance, will take ages even if we get anywhere near to the speed of light, I'm not if making such trips in a short enough time to make it worthwhile will ever be feasible.

Nevertheless it would be fascinating to see what life is like there. There could be so many new concepts unknown to us in every aspect of life: culture, language, law, religion, music, story telling, geography, nations, wars, martial arts and sports. If there was intelligent life, they could have very different ways of doing all of these. Also depending, on how old the planet is, there may be no intelligent life. "Intelligent life as in full sized animals has only existed for a fraction of the Earth's history, and the whole of human civilization has only existed for a miniscule fraction of that. If there was civilization, it could either be just beginning, extremely advanced, or have destroyed and build itself back up many times over.

I'll make the first recommendation.

Indenton - Possibly Puppeteer on PS3.

General / Re: What are some of the worst games you own?
« on: January 27, 2017, 05:59:24 pm »
Before you read any further, I have barely games that I don't like because I only buy games if I'm relatively confident I'll enjoy them.

But one of the least favourite games I own that comes to mind is Red Dead Redemption. Probably wouldn't say it's a bad game, more just mediocre. However I'm not kidding I when I say I think it's the most overrated game ever. Poor shooting and controls, awkward lighting in some areas, excruciating cow herding missions, few characters I gave a damn about Finally I couldn't care about John reuniting with his family throughout the story because I had never seen them so I had no attachment to them, and John didn't seem to either. And when you do finally meet them they're not particularly likable. I could go on, but the real kicker is that everyone seems to think this is a masterpiece.
