I understand that the data on one kind of disc/game may cause the system to behave differently (louder running), from a different one (i.e. blue ps2 to clear ps2, or shadow of the colossus compared to madden 03) but I have never heard of a noticeable difference between one system and the same game before and after buff. I may just have to empirically test this to make sure that I am not mistaken one this front.

I understand why we are all arguing about this. we have all had different experiences with this sort of thing that tell us one thing or the other that people on the other side of the argument have not had. I just have a very good question for you. do you own any discs (from the same system, preferably the exact same game) that you can upload pics of and try and point out any noticeable differences from a buffed disc to a factory one? this is just so we can all get on the same page and compare the results. this goes for both SwordDude and GF78

Unfortunately not anymore. As you might know I'm not a big fan of resurfacing, I would rather have a scratched disc.

They were ps1, gamecube and ps2 titles wich I have sold since I hated the noise my consoles made when playing these games. I haven't had this problem before. Even games with allot of scratches didn't do this to the console. Games work perfectly fine except for the **** noises the console makes when playing them. There are differences in quality. The better quality resurfaces will make less noise but never as silent as the old days before the resurface (for retro anyways). Ofcourse I didn't talk about the visible differences wich I mentioned before.

If GF78 can show an example I'm pretty curious, not that it would chance my mind to ever resurface again if a disc is still functional.

lets see. the gaming stores around me that resurface discs based on scratches....

Disc Replay (Mega Replay)
Video games ECT.
Tod's disc shop.
Family video (like blockbuster but they also sell older ware)
Uptown pawn (the only pawnshop in the area that seems to care about their wares)
Gamestop (im actually unsure about this one, I know some gamestops do but not all do it)

I can safely say that everyone on this site has at one point in their life purchased a new Disc based game. sure their are like $10 disc resurfacers you can buy that do more harm that good (scratch doctor), disc resurfacers where you have to physically hold the disc that have the potential to do harm (based on how you hold the disc), but for the most part it is impossible to tell the difference from a good commercial disc resurfaced game and a brand new game.

Don't you think I've ever proffesionally resurfaced a disc?

It was a big ***** machine pretty much the same size as a proffesional office printer I'm pretty sure it ain't cheap. Multiple different stores I've done this.

The difference is clearly there, I will never resurface a disc ever again unless it isn't functional.

To top it off For older games the console might have a harder time reading it and you will hear loud or semi loud noises all the time. Seriously even without looking at a disc one can tell if it has been resurfaced for older consoles.

Classic Video Games / Re: Best Gameboy and Gameboy Advance titles?
« on: May 01, 2016, 05:17:05 pm »
Personally my favourites for GBA are

Fire emblem blazing sword and fire emblem sacred stones
Castlevania harmony of dissonasance
Castlevania aria of sorrow
Dragonball Z advanced adventure and Medabots metabee an rpg adventure or Medabots rokusho an rpg adventure.
(I'm not talking about the trash medabots AX games)

one of my favourite systems especially on the gamecube gameboy player never been a big fan of the small screen.

I've left the pokemon road for quite some time already. My pokemon days are pretty much over. The games are fun but I enjoy other titles way more. i did play pokemon allot in the past but I did also play other games. pokemon was at least 40% of my time for gaming. The last pokemon game that I truly enjoyed was Black 2 wich had an awesome story line for a pokemon game. My favourite pokemon game is pokemon soulsilver.

The wii version is cheaper but one cannot simply ignore the gamecube version. Especially since grapics wise the gamecube and wii are pretty much the same.
I can't speak for this particular title; however overall that's not true.

It's a common exaggeration.

Although it's true Nintendo pushed aside power to focus on motion controls. The Wii certainly represents a hardware upgrade over the Gamecube.

The Wii is almost identical to the original Xbox in terms of horsepower. Slightly slower CPU but slightly faster GPU.

For later games maybe but twilight princess was an early title for wii

Grapic wise there is no difference at all It's the same. Furthermore since the component cable of the gamecube is slightly better the gamecube will also win in the grapics department for twilight princess.

Wii has more memory etc but power wise it is pretty much the same as gamecube since they only added some motion control gimmicks.

The only difference is that link is left handed in gamecube but right handed in wii version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHWoLggVQTA

Also in other comparison clips with the HD release they stick the wii and gamecube version together since they both have the same grapics.
No it doesn't just have more memory.

GameCube:
CPU - PowerPC "Gekko" 485 MHz
GPU - ATI "Flipper" 162 MHz
RAM - 24 MB main 1T-SRAM. 16 MB DRAM. 3 MB Video 1T-SRAM

Wii:
CPU - PowerPC-based 'Broadway' 729 MHz
GPU - ATI 'Hollywood' 243 MHz
RAM - 88 MB main RAM: 24 MB internal 1T-SRAM. 64 MB external GDDR3 SDRAM.

The Wii is a more powerful console all round.

And yet twilight princess on the gamecube has better grapics thanks to the superior component cable.
I think the words you were searching were for.....

"Wow, I was wrong. I like many others wrongly assumed that the Wii is just a Gamecube with a motion controller."

Dude if you can admit when you're wrong, then you'll learn more. Learning is fun :)

Sure I admit that the wii is better.

But I still stand by my point that the gamecube version of twilight princess has better grapics than the wii version.

There is also a gamecube version with pretty much the best controller ever made. I don't see the problem in controls.

The wii version is cheaper but one cannot simply ignore the gamecube version. Especially since grapics wise the gamecube and wii are pretty much the same.

The wii isn't better aside from some motion control gimmicks. The hardware was not much improved the two games are pretty much identical.

The funny thing is that the grapics are a bit better on gamecube since the component cable better than the wii component cable. funny thing since it is an older console.

Gaming in the year 2066 will consist of holograms in your house that you interact with like droids in the first person. You literally play the main role in your own living room and holograms build a virtual gaming reality around you. You become the game. The world will most likely be in the rebuilding process after some sort of world war.  At the going rate by then Smash Melee will be anywhere from $2,409,209 to $3,490,023.90. Considering it was 40 last year and is 70 now. Inflation will grow rapidly.  And a CIB copy of EarthBound will literally be transported in an armored truck to fort knox where it will be guarded for the rest of its life by navy seals. Resellers will drive the prices to the moon. 50 years from now Wii U will be old and retro and Atari 2600 will be a dinosaur fossil that the children laugh at as they send text messages via brain waves. Realistically retro video games will be cherished by us old men and the modern kids in the year 2066 might take up collecting things they grew up with like wii u and xbox one. Those will be extremely retro by then. I assume the prices will either plummet because all of us that cared died by then, or they will sky rocket because they will get much more limited. It all depends on weather or not the next generation cares about them. That's why If I have a youngin I am going to raise him on the classics. The roots. so he will always appreciate the fundamentals no matter what fancy virtual reality immersive technology he has by the time he gets older lol.

Based from your older posts I've seen, I seriously have no idea if you're joking or serious. In 50 years the high end price of Smash Melee will increase almost 6 million percent? ??? I don't know much about economics, but I dunno about that haha
Based on his created threads we can conclude that he's... different than all of us.

It's the darkest zelda game in the entire series.

Gameplay wise it is the same but otherwise way different from windwaker.

Some find it to be the best zelda game of all time and some find it garbage.

Twilight princess is my favourite :p

I'm sure cartridges will still be about but I'd imagine there'll be far less of them and I'd guess that with games that utilise a battery for saving, there'll be none left that still save.

Except it's super easy to replace save batteries, so that won't really be a big issue.
Yes now it is. However I don't think those batteries will be used anymore so I doubt they'll be manufactured. So there will be a finite amount that will run out.
Batteries aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Not in our lifetime or the next.
I'd like to think Tesla's vision of free, ever surrounding energy will be realised in this lifetime.

Even if it will be realised I think that people will still produce the batteries since many people use it for their hobby. Not only for retro games.

If It's starting to die out I'm pretty sure that some retrogame store will see chance to produce them for profit.

Get used to people listing discs as mint or like-new after resurfacing.

Ik it happens already, for expensive games most people do note that the game has been resurfaced though. (guess more people notice resurfacing and probably complained about it)

Still though I don't mind since I get my games from lots for usually bargain prices or nothing at all. Most people don't resurface their games when selling in lots for less money than lose. I like having mint items but I accept excellent upwards condition discs with very few minor scratches. going mint is definitly not impossible but way to expensive and time consuming. I've heard stories of people rebuying one expensive game 5 times before getting it mint while losing money in the process. It's a waste. For current gen like ps3 etc mint is pretty easy to find since ps3 games usually do not have any scratches at all even when used allot.

Especially for older games such as ps1 keeping it mint while playing the game is a task on It's own. Excellent NM condition can be maintained when used but mint is not possbible for some older systems. It will get scratched at some point.

I would be pissed though if I paid top dollar for 1 game wich was supposedly mint.
