Title: September 2013 - Recently Added to Collection/Recently Purchased
Post by: foxhack on September 01, 2013, 09:32:28 pm
I haven't had many purchases for a while, but I bought the Groupees BeMine 9 bundle and got Ittle Dew, The 39 Steps and Angelica Weaver: Catch Me When You Can. And a bunch of other games I won't be touching. :p

Or maybe I just wanted an excuse to start the thread this month. :D

I seem to go in spurts when it comes to collecting. I won't see anything for a while and then bam I'll find 6 or 7 all at once. My latest two are Suikoden on playstation which I'm pretty sure I over payed for and Dragon Quest IV on DS.

Can't wait for it to get here! I loved the first two games which I'm at the end of Lost Age and recently finished the first one a couple weeks back.

I just bought Omikron The Nomad Soul from GOG, since it was on a flash sale today ($3.99.)

I remember playing through a demo of this game over 10 years ago and liking what my crappy computer at the time managed to let me play. I saw the intro on Youtube and the music was enough to hook me in again. Too bad there's no soundtrack included...

I have it on Dreamcast. It's been a real long-time since I've played it, but I remember getting stuck after wandering around aimlessly in the city.

Picked up Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn last night from my buddy's house. I really can't wait for them to get this server maintenance done with. Other than that the only other game I've gotten recently was a copy of New Super Luigi U, and I don't even own a Wii U!

It's been super hectic around here lately. Between work, working on my house and being recruited to help tile the folk's laundry room, I haven't had much time to sit down and surf the web or go game hunting. :(

That game was deceiving for me, as a kid. It looked so cool, and the graphics were eye-popping (for the time, Capcom really knew how to work the NES). But the gameplay was so strange and foreign, that I didn't have a great time with it.

That's because it looked like a kid's game, but was really hard.  I did the same thing when I was a kid.  It's more do-able now

@redblaze - I'll give you $5 for it right now.  Seriously though, Great pick up

Nah, that's not it. Most games back then were tough-as-nails. That was the norm.

Well, my character is level 12 right now. The game is super fun although the skeleton king was frustrating. I have a monk and she is just a beast! I dont know what other versions of the game are like however. I played the first one on the PS1 and it sucked. I never messed with any of the other sequels/version.

My god I've been wanting an Adventurevision so bad, but I can never seem to get close to one. I'd put it as the #1 system I want in my collection. I really wish I could say I got one.

Not a Wondermega, I almost got one of those once for $400 but something else came up and I bought it instead. I think it Might have been the N64DD.

Next clue; It is a rare variation of a console I already own.

That's be sweet! Those things are kind of expensive too. Everyone wants a Hello Kitty Dreamcast. (It may seem like I'm being insanely sarcastic, but actually just a little. I would definitely pick up a Hello Kitty Dreamcast given the opportunity)

You ain't hittin dem streets like my boy, the flea, does.
Great finds man.

On a more depressing note, I hit a massive flea market, a game store, and a few yard sales and found a boatload of nothing. This weekend was a bust. The guy at the game store told me I missed a guy trying to sell a box of about 30 pristine complete NES games by about 15 min. But luckily, they got his number. I called and he's supposed to get back to me tomorrow.

Yeah I should hit garage sales but they dont seem to happen in my area like what it used to be like when I was younger. And good luck on that callback!

It can be exhausting, I get up about 7am and hit the streets and hit as many sales as I can, I usually don't head home til around 2pm. I'm even surprised on the luck I've had this year. There's a ton of resellers in my area. Half of the time I hear "your the 2nd, 3rd, etc person looking for games".

The sale that has both Earthbound and Chrono Trigger I hit about 1pm, usually by this time sales are picked over.
But I stopped on a sale on my way home and as I was walking up I saw Earthbound on a table half way up the driveway.
I bolted to that table and grabbed both SNES games, they had no price when i asked how much? I was told $5 and I didn't argue. lol  ;D

I just downloaded Star Tropics II: Zoda's Revenge for NES on Wii Virtual Console.

It free after redeeming 150 Club Nintendo Points (Until October something). I figured I better get it while they were still offering Wii games.

I was wondering if you needed to play the first Star Tropics 1 in order to understand Zoda's Revenge?

Good garage sale day for me, although not as good as Flea, to be sure.

A Snes, two controllers, and 8 games with manuals.

And bringing me into Atari collecting:
A Sears Video Arcade II, with 18 games.

All for $20!

Not Earthbound and Chrono Trigger for $5, but still made my day!

Just recently bought New Super Luigi U for Wii U.
I also bought Battletoads and Double Dragon for SNES, Jak X :Combat Racing for PS2 and Nuclear Strike for PS1!

I also downloaded Summer Carnival '92: RECCA for the 3DS Virtual Console. You know, that rare Famicom game? Yeah, they released it outside Japan for the first time!
(I just submitted it so go ahead and add it to your collection or wish lists. ;))

That's about what we do, start on Saturday around 8:00 a.m., but we only go until about 11:00-12:00.  Anyone who specifically lists game stuff on CL sells it within an hour or two of when they open, and many garage sales in my city go from Thurs-Sat so resellers pretty much pick up anything good that's advertised.  Most of what I've found at garage sales was unadvertised, so it just comes down to luck and location.  I live in a city of about 250k -- living in a larger city gives you a lot more opportunity and you're more likely to come across niche stuff.  For every good find I've come across, I've probably thumbed through a dozen copies of Madden / Bratz / Imagine Babies games.

And yes, I hate you.  I haven't picked up a decent SNES game at a garage sale for two years.

The guy was asking $60 for this lot but accepted my offer of $40. I am positive that he was going to call his dealer as soon as I left.

Reversi is complete and it was $5. Phantasy Star cost a little bit more,  it was $10. It was also game number 3000 in my collection!

Heh Why cant I find a copy of Earthbound like that? :)

Well, the callback was just that, a Callback.  Dude decided not to sell any of it.  I told him to save my number and hit me up if he ever changed his mind.  I don't have to by them all.  I'll even do one at a time.  Oh well, another missed chance.  15 min too late.

The guy was asking $60 for this lot but accepted my offer of $40. I am positive that he was going to call his dealer as soon as I left.

I really feel sorry for  the kid that belonged to before this dude sold it.  Poor boy.

I thought it was just going to be some kid selling a present he didn't want or something but when I got to the guy's house he was so sketchy that I didn't dare not buy it from him! I am pretty sure he stole it too :(

Actually a bit of possibly good news: When I started to play it the figures weren't tied to another account so he may have "just" stolen them from a store.

I picked up my preorder of Kingdom Hearts HD yesterday.  I've never played any of these games, so this is all new to me.  I don't even know what they are about, other than people like them.
It's been fun so far.  I'm about 2 hours in and still haven't gotten into the meat of the game.  I wish I knew more about Final Fantasy.  I think some of these characters are from that world.  Squall or Leon?  No clue.  I did recognize the Moogle and Cid from the FF world.

I bought Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for PC today for a dollar. Brand new.

... I already owned it on Steam.

But this one included a soundtrack CD so I had to buy it DON'T JUDGE ME. Even if the damn CD only had MP3s.

I also bought the Humble Indie Bundle 9 so I guess I now own Fez, FTL and Trine 2 Complete Story on Steam too.

Double post.

It's nice to be friendly with the manager at the local Gamestop.

He went to the Gamestop Expo in LV and said there was a stack of Persona 1 soundtracks.  He snagged a couple and put aside the one in the best condition for me.

I found & picked-up a DS (cartridge) game (cib) really cheap yesterday; called:

Overlord: Minions (it's a Codemaster's game).

I remember playing Overlord (and *maybe* a bit of Overlord 2) on the PS3 & thinking that they were pretty fun.

It was neat to not only be the "bad" guy -but- the whole system & mechanics of using & (micro:) managing your different types of minions in different ways felt pretty unique & original.

Anyways - I didn't even know that there *was* an Overlord game for the DS (although, it looks like it might be more puzzle-based/oriented than the PS3 ones); we'll see...

Got back to the Game Gear collection and picked up Spiderman, X-Men, and Star Trek Generations. Brings me to 116 total. quickly approaching the half way point. It took a while to start finding deals on these again. The fewer games there are left the harder it is to find them cheap.

Also picked up Power Rangers on Sega CD for a couple of bucks.

It's a Bayonetta/DMC-style action game made by the creator of Bayonetta and DMC (the good ones)... So you know it's awesome badass action goodness :P

It is very unique though. The camera is set really high up and far away from your characters, where it has almost a Pikmin-like look to it. You change weapons by drawing shapes, which you either do with the touch screen or the better option which is the right analog stick. The bigger the drawing the stronger the attack, if you recruited enough people in your team (which you gather through each level, up to 100). It's really hard too, which is nice.

Yeah.

Picked up an auction lot of broken Game Gears for cheap (basically shipping). Going to see what ones just need cleaning and new caps. Then start the mod process of creating a video out circuit. It's been since college since I've soldered anything more than to replace a battery on Phantasy Star II. SO, this could get interesting. Tiny solder points on those Game Gear boards....

I'm mega hopeful and excited to give playing the Game Gear on a television using the actual system a shot.

God, that Terminator 2 game sucks. Usually I can find something good about a game... but not here. Flying Edge was the automatic sign of crap on SEGA consoles. This game being one of their worse. On the plus side, it is totally worth a dollar to see how bad it is.

That's a nice lookin' Game Boy.

Ya I know the game blows, but I didn't have it and it was a buck and I like to try out bad games just to see for myself just how bad they are for myself. That and I like to make other people try and play it and see how long it takes for them to rage quit. lol

That really sucks.  That's always my worry with having things like that shipped to me.  Sometimes they're pristine, taking more care in getting it to me than a brick & mortar store does in their back room.  But sometimes at the B&M stores, the employees will try to help me find the stuff that wasn't damaged in their shipment(s).

Hi, everyone!!!

I got a Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars cartridge!!! :)

Cheers!

I came across two copies at a local pawn shop this morning.  But they wanted $65 for it.  Ugh.  They recently acquired a bunch of decent SNES games, and they want double what they sell for online for them.

Congrats!  It's a really fun and unique RPG.

Decent day today.  I picked up the following at a local pawn shop:

SNES - Super Ninja Boy $5

XBox - $2 each
Psychonauts <-- been looking for this one for years
Hitman 2
Halo 2
Far Cry Instincts

GC - Outlaw Golf (missing manual) $2

and at a garage sale I came across: Game Boy Color - Missile Command (still factory sealed) $3

On top of that, I picked up about 20 newer DC/Marvel comics for about $0.20/ea., City of Heroes and Dark Age of Camelot Prima guides, and the pick of the day; Saved By The Bell season 1&2 DVD for $3!  One of my biggest guilty pleasures.

Yep, I did. It's been awhile, but I remember liking a lot about it, though I disliked the linearity of progression from area to area. Decent enough that I wanted to check out the sequel, though.

I could be wrong, but if I recall, it's also tied in on some level to the War of Genesis series, but I haven't played any of those, unfortunately :/

So he got me a copy of Mario Kart Wii with the plastic wheel thing. Brand new so not bad.

Consistent w/ what I've heard about the 1st one (about 50/50 for like it/don't like it) -but- (from what I've read), at least 3/4 seem to think the second's an improvement...let us know  8)

Is it coming with the art book/strategy guide that came with (some) of the games?

They're pretty decent, as far as those sorts of things go.

I love finding these. This one was from ebay. Someone had it listed as a "Micro System" and I guess it fell through the cracks. I guess I should have taken the little controllers out for the picture. I love Game & Watches. They're so cool.

I bought a Konami PS1 Justifier - the green light gun they released that's only compatible with a few games. It cost me two bucks.

I think this is my second or third one. Heh.

I also uh, picked up a Japanese Dreamcast last weekend for $5. For some reason. I thought it had the broadband adapter but nope, just a standard modem. Blargh.

I liked the series.

IMO, 3 - is by far - the best one & the one to grab if you see it (seems to be getting significantly rarer & more costly than the others)...

Missed Retropalooza. But still managed a good day. Overall, I'm pretty happy about going carless. I much prefer living in the city and just using a small motorcycle for long distances. But It's about 35 miles from North Dallas to Arlington and I would have been soaked by rain once I got there. But, I did go hopping around yard sales locally. Made some progress on the 32X collection. I picked up some 32X filler. They are:

Fahrenheit
Star Wars Arcade
NBA Jam TE
NFL Quarterback Club
Toughman Contest.

This puts me at 19/36 games. I've gone past the halfway point on 32X and Game Gear. I'm also damn close tothe halfway point on the Master System. The SEGA collection has been rounding out nicely. The SEGA CD is definitely my weak spot (I have a bunch of Saturn games that I've been too lazy to update on the site database). But even my SEGA CD collection, is getting to the point where I have a decent amount. It's problem is that most of the games I find in the wild are sports games. I need to add a handful of games representative of the system.

Do yourself a favor and quit whatever else you are playing and start this. Its one of the best gaming experiences ever. You will get so immersed in the story, you will not want to stop at all. I cant wait to have another playthrough but its only been 6-7 months since I finished it and I can still remember most of it.

Anyway, I didn't have a whole lot of time to shop at Retropalooza, but I did pick up a few things I've been wanting and one stupid impulse buy

SNES
Magical Quest Staring Mickey Mouse $10
Boxed Joe & Mac $15
Yoshi's Island $15

NES
6 games that I don't remember what they are for $12

And is spent $25 on a CIB Power Pad.

$77 isn't bad for that.

I a also won a pixel art painting for answering a trivia question.
" What were the names of the Battletoads?"

Just ordered Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and Montezuma's Revenge for the SMS. Only five more to go now. Dreading James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing but I have the funds put together for that when one eventually surfaces.

Also picked up cases and manuals for Great Soccer, Alex Kidd The Lost Stars and Captain Silver. Have five carts now that need boxes and around two dozen that still need manuals (although I'm not too concerned about manuals - it's nice if they're there but not something that would make my almost-OCD flare up).

Snagged NBA Tournament Edition for the 32X and a NES Power Pad while I was out and about, too.

Yeah, I wanted to make it, but that would have been two hours of motorcycling in the rain. Plus, the return trip with products didn't seem wise while raining. I was looking forward to meeting some VGCollect people.

That is one I need, if you still have it, you can PM me a price. We've already sent each other stuff before. Should be easy enough.

How was selling at Retropalooza? Able to clear out most of your stuff?

Selling was cool.  I unloaded well over half my stuff and and made just shy of a grand.  Now, I didn't come home with all of that since I bought some cool stuff and then gas and hotel and food. Most importantly, I had a freakin awesome time.

Apparently this is some sort of expansion card for PCs to add gamepad support. This thing has a 1990 copyright date! I can't use it, of course, but maybe some PC retrogamer will find it useful.

I'm not looking to get much, $3 (what this cost me) should be fine, but... man, the postage is like $11 to Canada for a one pound package. :\

Do you have a PayPal account?

Here's a pic of my pickups from the last couple of weeks.

My mom came across the boxed and sealed GBA games (she is also a garage sale addict).  Two copies of Mega Man Battle Network 5 and 3 copies of James Pond.  It's nice to have her keeping an eye out for me :)  She once found a loose Dragon Warrior III for $0.50 :)

SNES
Donkey Kong Country 2
Yoshi's Island
$10 each, but I was happy to pay that.  I almost bought Yoshi's Island last weekend for $20, so I'm glad I held out.

Genesis
Gaiares - $10, but have been looking for it for a long time.  It's CIB and mint too.
Shining Force II - $3, was very excited to find this in a pile of generic Genesis games.
X-men - $3
Starflight - $3

NES
SMB3 - $2.  Found in a random stack of toys at a garage sale.

XBox
Batman Vengeance - $2

DS
Zenses

GBA
Dogz 2
Lego Star Wars

PS2 system with 3 games was $15, so I had to get it.

Oh, and I found an N64 controller for $1, so I had to pick that up too.  My N64 controllers are pretty shoddy, but this one felt practically new.

So, it was a pretty good haul this weekend.  Looking about like a typical week for theflea ;)

Haha, all those James Ponds are ridiculous...

Just got my preordered copy of Etrian Odyssey Untold, but I'm gonna have to find another store to exchange it with.  My local shop only had one copy (I guess I was the only preorder? Totally strange), and it was kind of squashed and part of the plastic wrap has a tear in it (right in the middle of the front).

I just put in an order with Amazon in hopes that I can get a more pristine version *fingers crossed* but I might still try to hit up another shop to see if I can switch out my copy before they tear them open and put their GS stickers on the box.
