What consoles do you own that never enjoyed mainstream success?
Mine are:
Turbo Grafx-16
CD-i
3DO
Atari 7800
What ones do you want?
Mine are:
Lynx
Turbo Express
Sega Nomad
Emerson Arcadia
-
The 7800 and Odyssey2 are the only ones I have that were not super popular consoles.
I would love to get a 5200 as well as some of the more obscure, but historically relevant consoles like the Fairchild Channel F
-
I have a few Philips in2it's.
And i missing every Atari, except the handhelds. (Hunting for a while for one now)
A 3DO.
-
I've got:
Atari Jaguar
Amiga CD32
Neo Geo AES
5200, 7800
Intellivision
Turbo Grafx with cd add-on
FM Towns Marty? does that count?
Want...
Lynx
3do
That's all I can think of off the top of my head
-
I wouldn't call them a whole new/different system, but I own a Game Boy Light (http://i.imgur.com/Qr49Ta8.jpg) and an AV Famicom.
I used to have an Atari Lynx but I sold it a few years ago.
I'd like to get a Panasonic Q or a 64DD.
I've never really cared for Sega but a CDX would nice.
A Vectrex would be cool too.
-
Ps2 slim, Ps3 SS, Playstation 1 Fat, Snes and Nes junior.
-
I have a Neo Geo Pocket Color
-
Nah, I kind of cleaned house a little while back and got rid of the console that mostly just collected dust. I also collect comics and movies, which I also have a lot of, so I needed to get more space-effective.
I guess the closest I have is my Dreamcast.
I used to have a Saturn, a Master System, a Neo-Geo Pocket Color, and a TurboGrafx-16. Also used to have a Sega CD and Commodore 64, those died. I miss my Saturn the most, probably, then the TG-16.
-
An original Xbox. #sweg.

Your TG-16 is in good hands and getting much love. ;)
The Panasonic Q is a compelling buy for many reasons.
Amiga CD 32 is a curiosity to me. How many games were actually released for it?

Did you and Marvel get inspired by the same thing? You two created nearly identical threads within one minute of each other...

Marvels inspired me to ask the reverse question.
He asked about commons. I find uncommons more interesting. I was hoping to hear some console names I hadn't heard before.
-
My most uncommon game consoles:
- Barbie Game Wizard (MGA)
- Loopy (Casio)
- Master System Girl (Sega/Tectoy)
- Vectrex (WT/MB)
- Virtual Boy (Nintendo)
I also have a few unusual game console peripherals, such as the Pro Fighter X (Super Famicom), Magical Shop (Casio Loopy), Slide Controller (Nintendo DS), and Piano Controller (Nintendo DS).
-
If you count original JP version of TurboGrafx-16 and TurboGrafx-CD, yes.
PC Engine
PC Engine CD-ROM2
Had Sega Saturn since launch, also a import JP system
Sega Saturn (became so popular the last years)
I want to get:
Game Gear
Neo Geo Pocket Color
Mega-CD

Probably not, most of my consoles are common household names. I would say my Funtastic Blue N64 and My Mattel Hyperscan aren't too common. Most people probably don't have them. Not sure though :D.
Consoles I want :)
SNES lol
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis Model 3
Sega 32x
Nintendo Gamecube Spice Orange JP
White PS Vita
Ceramic White PS2 slim
Vectrex
-
I have a few rare/uncommon console variants:
- Pikachu Nintendo 64
- Black Sega Sports Dreamcast
- White Japanese Sega Saturn
- NES Top Loader
-
I have a Wii U. :P

Ahhh, gotcha. My just-woken-up brain couldn't figure out the difference, lol.

My most uncommon consoles would probably be:
- Vectrex
- Arcadia 2001
- 3DO
And to a lesser extent:
- Atari 7800
- TG-16
- Atari Jaguar
- Odyssey 2
- NES top loader
Consoles I still want:
- Neo Geo
- Neo Geo Pocket Color
- Fairchild Channel F

Wow, you have an arcadia! I have a bunch of games but no console. They are insanely difficult to find.
-
I have a Wii U. :P
I almost put that one down as well. ;)
-
Wii U! Haha I kid, I kid. But seriously though, I have an Intellivision, which most people don't have but not really.
-
Does this count?
I found this at a flea market a few months ago. It's obviously a Wii rip-off console, and it's as horrible as it looks. But hey, for a "console" (Does this even count as one?) that cost me €3,50 and came with all this stuff I can't be that mad at it, especially after how many laughs I got out of it. Seriously, the bootleg games on those two cartridges range from dull to so bad it's funny, to the point I seriously found myself laughing out loud at what ridiculous things these games kept throwing at me.
I know, it doesn't really count as a console, but I don't really have anything else. All consoles I own have been very successful. I'm planning on picking up a Wii U soon, and that would then be the least successful console in my collection. Besides, I've NEVER seen one at someone else's house (only a few times in department stores), so I guess it fits the bill :)
I also have a few unusual game console peripherals, such as the Pro Fighter X (Super Famicom), Magical Shop (Casio Loopy), Slide Controller (Nintendo DS), and Piano Controller (Nintendo DS).
Holy cow, that's a thing? I have to look into that. I can't seem to find it on eBay though, is it really that rare? (Sorry, I'm a huge sucker for weird hardware/peripherals.
-
I'm boring. I think the closest thing would be the Sega Saturn.
The only uncommon console I kind of want is a Vectrex.

Vectrex really? I would have never guessed.
Are there some rpgs on there I'm not aware of? ;)
Seriously though what's draws you to it?
-
Wow this would be a long list for me. lol
I'll list what I call the top 10 most obscure consoles I own. ;)
10. Funtech Super A'Can
9. Epoch Game Pocket Computer
8. Tomy Tutor
7. Memorex VIS
6. Bandai Apple Pippin
5. Gakken Compact Vision TV Boy
4. Casio PV-1000
3. Colorvision
2. Philips Tele-Spiel
1. Nichibutsu My Vision
-
If I look in numbers
neo geo pocket, neo geo pocket color and even the sega cd are consoles that allot of people do not own
Not to uncommon to be fair, but i'm not a big fan of uncommon consoles.
The most uncommon console that I had was a cib Sega Mega jet unfortunately I had to sell it
-
Arcadia 2001
Bentley Compu-vision
Atari 1200XL
Atari 130XE
Atari 800XL
-

I played it with MrNikon back at a convention and really enjoyed its simplicity. It didn't have anything that would last for hours on end, but it was a really unique system and it would be neat to own.
-
I have a buddy who doesn't collect or anything, but he has a Vectrex and a couple of games. I've been asking him to sell it to me for 10 years now, he always refuses.
-
Maybe CDX? Vectrex??

Yep, got mine off ebay probably 15+ years ago now. I rarely play it but it's one of those consoles that people say "huh?"

Just hit him up about once a year to make sure his mind hasn't changed. Asked to be added to his will just in case.

At this point I think if he were to sell it, he'd want about market value. I bought most of his childhood games off of him and at first he gave me good deals, but then at some point he had some left overs he found (which I thought he had said he would throw in if he found them) and asked for full market value for them, so I passed. I think it was like street fighter and tetris or something, real common stuff.
-
CD-i 450
Turbografx 16
Atari 800XL
Atari 1200XL
Nothing too spectacular, but I have fun.
-
Does everyone have an NES? ;)
I have all the Coleco Tabletop Arcades. Does that count?
I also have a PlayChoice-10. You can swap out games. Does that make it a console?
-
I remember that i also have both Tapwave Zodiac's, and a Gizmondo.
-
I've got quite a few consoles, but I'd have to say the top 3 are my N64DD, Pioneer LaserActive, and a fully boxed Apple Pippin @World.
I see a lot of @Mark systems out there, but rarely see one of the @World, and I don't think I've seen another one with all of the packaging, though I'm sure there are others.

Laser Active, nice.
I suspect there are more Sega and Turbo Grafx LD games out there than the internets are aware of.
-
Yeah, I got it at a thrift store for a ridiculously low price with the sega pac. Didn't find any LD games in the store tho, just LD movies. LD player still works, reads LD and CD fine, but the Sega PAC needs the caps replaced. :(

I'm constantly scanning the electronics rack at Savers hoping for a find like that! Good score! Hope you get those caps replaced! I saw somewhere evidence of a Street Fighter Sega LD. Other than the fact it exists I couldn't find anything else about it. It's not on any known LD games list.
-
I've got a WonderSwan Color, I just got it because it was a Final Fantasy 2 edition and I love Final Fantasy edition anything.
I have a Master System too, which isn't really all that unusual in general but I've never known anyone else in the UK that has a Master System aside from the guy I bought it off.

I almost picked up one of these back in Ebay's infancy. Many of the early listings were for models that needed new capacitors, but no one knew at the time and there were no internet sites that talked about it like now. I wish I would have bought one because now I could fix it like I did a Game Gear.
I don't own a lot of offbeat consoles. Probably my most uncommon ones are Mark III, Game Gear, Sega Master System, Neo Geo AES, Sega CD, and the Famicom Disk System add-on.
-
Nothing too off the wall. Some of these are listed as others have mentioned them despite millions of units existing.
Coleco Adam (Unknown: 95K in 1983, canceled by 1985, high failure/return rate)
Atari Jaguar (<250,000)
Atari Lynx I & II (500K-1 Million depending on source)
Sega Nomad (1 million)
Magnavox Odyssey2 (~2 Million)
Atari 7800 (~3.77 Million)
A working Game Gear (Uncommon) and two that currently don't work (Common) (10.62 Million combined)
Various knock-offs, dedicated systems and such
-

I always go back and forth about getting a Wonder Swan Color. Do you think they're worth it? I've played FF and FFII plenty, but I'm sure that there are other games that would be worth a look.
Plus, I think the WSC looks nifty.

If you can understand Japanese, sure. Otherwise there aren't many games you'll be able to play on it. :P
It is pretty good for collection purposes if you're into Final Fantasy though. I think the first 4 FF games are all on it. And the FF1 and FF2 editions of the console are pretty sweet.
The WSC version of FF2 has the best version of FF2's soundtrack too in my opinion. Dat Overworld theme. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QgHeyDvAaY)

I can understand enough to get by, but I'm not at the level I'd like to be. It's a work in progress.
Thanks for the information!

You and me both, brudda. Thankfully the WSC screen is too small for kanji so it's all written in hiragana. If you know a bit of spoken Japanese you may be okay.

Hmm, I actually have a harder time without the kanji since hiragana tends to blend together. Or maybe I'm just weird. XD Either way, I'll keep all of this in mind before I take the plunge.
It would be cool replay Final Fantasy II again on such a unique console.

Most of my less-than-common consoles have been named already- Fairchild Channel F, Atari 7800, and such. I did just acquire a (working!) Mattel Microvision, which hasn't come up yet. ;)
As it stands, there's only 2 rare-ish consoles I still want- a Vectrex and a Colecovision (I guess those aren't particularly rare.) Maybe a TurboExpress, but I'm not familiar enough with the T16 catalog to know if I'd really want to spend the money.
-
The rarest I have is probably the Nomad. I don't count pong clones, since they don't use carts.

I forgot to mention my Microvision but I can't confirm its a working one since I haven't turned it on in about 8 years. Probably should test it out.
