Title: Another "fixing" topic: Vectrex
Post by: jobocan on July 20, 2011, 08:14:54 pm
Hey guys, it's another one of those fixing stuff topics (I'll update you on the master system when I'm done with that, I just need to solder the piece now).

So I just bought a Vectrex. It works, thankfully (dang those graphics look GREAT, I'm not even kidding here), but the controller's "button 4" doesn't work, and it just so happens it's the "shoot" button in the built-in game. Anyone have any idea how to fix that?

Pull off the plastic overlay carefully using a hairdrier to get to the screws... then use rubbing alcohol on the contact pads... if that doesn't work follow the trace/wire on the connector with a multimeter and make sure there isn't a short in the cable.

Guess that means I'll ask my friends who work with electronics to help me out. Thanks for the hairdryer suggestion, I didn't think of that.

Ya a hairdryer works great on a lot of things with decals/ adhesive. We use one at work to take lettering and stickers off of stuff all the time.
