Once I get my PS4, though, and learn more about its cross-functionality w/ the Vita...I may consider waiting for (both a Vita *AND* the Vita's memory card) price-drop; then start thinking more seriously about adding a Vita to my collection.

Heh, yeah...I wasn't even thinking of the "Kinect" thing, either -but- it most definitely is (for me, at least) one HELL of a turn-off.

I'll be getting a PS4 eventually. XB1 is a no-go, unless they keep all their policies that they've backpedaled into AND drop the mandatory Kinect.

The Wii U is actually a lot of fun! A lot of the negativity comes from the ever-present "Nintendoomed since 1889!!!!!" people and the people (usually a member of the former group) that have to reassure everyone that they're a "hardcore gamer" by saying bad things about Nintendo. The Wii U is admittedly off to a slower start than any of their consoles ever have been and they've been making some strange decisions, but they've got some incredibly strong first party games on the way which should (hopefully) entice third party developers more, which, as you pointed out, has been the cycle since the N64:

I've seen many rumors, but all of them ended up being false so far. If it's true... well the console will still need some good exclusives for me to want it. Anything else that I'm interested in I'll be able to play on PC and PS4.

Ah, just saw the news. It's still unclear if there's gonna be a SKU that doesn't have the Kinect. The only confirmation I found is that you're not required to hook it up to the Xbox One for the console to function. I don't want the Kinect at all, I refuse to pay extra for something I won't ever use.
Also: Am I the only one trying really hard to not call it the Xbone?

I am getting one. I know I will. But I am waiting. I'm going to see what most people get. But I do have a preference for XBox controllers and Forza is my favorite thing this last generation (besides Lollipop Chainsaw... I don't know what that says about the quality of games I like...) so I will probably buy a XBone when I pass by it in the store and and decide to just pick it up. It will be an impulse buy of sorts... a partially planned out impulse buy.
But if everyone I know gets a PS4 (which it looks to be very probable), I may go that route.

Then a PS4 followed by the XBox One. If nothing else now then for the stupid name. Microsoft has just fucked up far too much in terms of PR that I REALLY need to wait and see what they actually do with their system in the long run before I can buy into them. Getting rid of the always online and always on Kinect are a nice start. But they still were planning on those policies.

I'll eventually pick up a Wii U once that must-have game comes out. It may be Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, the Monolith title or possibly Mario Kart 8/Smash Bros that push me over the edge. As for Sony/MS, I've made my feelings about the XBOne pretty clear. If I do pick up one of them, it would be the PS4 but considering I still have yet to get a PS3 it's going to be years before I add that console to my collection. Honestly, I just have way too many games in my backlog and not enough free time anymore to play anything but my backlog. Getting a new console just doesn't make sense for me right now.

I have my PS4 more than half way payed off, but I am worried because the specs show that it is apparently HDMI output only, and my TV is broke so it is stuck on component.... I will likely have to buy a new TV before November 15th, but I just don't think that it is feasible.... I'm not planning on getting an Xbox One anytime soon though.... I might consider it sometime in 2015 depending on what the game space looks like at the time....

I'll buy a PS4 when there's a price drop, but it's 100% certain that I'll own one someday, even if it's only for Kingdom Hearts 3 (but I seriously doubt that's the only game I'll ever want on PS4). I always bought Playstation consoles when they became slim models, so I guess there's a chance it will happen once again. I'm older now, but I'm in an intensive college program with 40 hours of courses each week, so I can't work at the same time. Collecting is taking a hit for the next 2 years :P
No interest at all in the Xbox 180, I've never owned any microsoft console because they never interested me, and this one is seriously even further behind the other 2 Xboxes (Xboxi? lol) for me. I already own a Wii U, so I'm all set on Nintendo's side.

Pre-ordered my PS4 and a copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall back when they first came up on Amazon. I've got a high-end gaming PC alongside that, so I'm thinking I'll be perfectly content on ditching Microsoft this time around.
Even looking at my 360, most of the games on there were available on PC. If it weren't for Cave shmups, I'd only have a handful of games that make it worth keeping that I can't get elsewhere.

Now is the time where the getting starts to get good and that could buy me 60-65 great Xbox 360 games. As a collector, it's hard to justify 3 games over 60 games... Especially when I'm still missing so many great games for the 360.

I don't have any games pre-ordered -and- to be honest...I probably won't even be opening/setting it up right away, either (at least until some decent RPG's come out for it).
Really just pre-ordered mine to:
A). Show Sony a little love,
B). Avoid problems finding one if there's (the usual) supply & demand problems, and
C). Wtf? If they're selling for double-triple what I paid for mine...you're damned right I'll sell that little bitch & just get another one later ;)

"D4?! They're making a sequel to D, Enemy Zero, and D2! That's pretty cool" "But Wait, didn't Kenji Eno die? A sequel seems kind of wrong. Was it in the works?" "Oh, it has nothing to do with the previous D games... It is not connected to the D series and just shares a similar name and a insanely misleading number." "It uses kinect control" "Forza looks nice"
It's sad. But I was super pumped for about 5 minutes. Then it did not meet my immediate expectations and then stopped looking at it.
Does the game look cool? I may have to look at it more.

From what I understand D4 isn't even a spiritual successor. It just is a random game that has a misleading title. The title just seems coincidental. It has nothing to do with Eternal Champions but damn if the name is not misleading.
I could be mistaken, because a title named D4 not referencing the Kenji Eno games seems TOO coincidental.

Nope, you're right. Checking Wikipedia anyway, the game has absolutely no relationship whatsoever. Given the title, I have no doubt the people behind the game know damn well that it's going to confuse people, too.

That's frighteningly similar to what was going through my head when I was watching it. I miss Kenji Eno. His games were undeniably flawed, but they just had so much charm and he had so many original ideas, even if they didn't always succeed. He wasn't a bad musician either. D2's minimalist soundtrack is still one of my favorites.
Getting back on topic, I'm always wary of buying a console at launch. There's just too many things that can go wrong with the hardware, and I prefer to hold off from purchasing one until after they iron out the kinks and release updated models. It doesn't help that the only next-gen game I'm really looking forward to right now is Kingdom Hearts III, and that isn't coming out for a while. Between the two, I'd rather get a PS4. Microsoft's handling of the Xbox One left a bad taste in my mouth, though I am mildly interested in D4, if only because Swery is involved.

Lol, I'm sure you would.... My worst case scenario plan that I'm currently mulling over is to sell my NeoGeo to pay for a cheap TV in the short term, but I really don't want to do that.... Especially since I may being paying my mother's bills in the next year at this rate too....

Ha ha.... Simplicity at it's finest.... A positive update for once though, my uncle was murdered earlier this year, and we were finally able to sell his truck to help my mom out so I may be able to squeeze out that TV after all~!

But while I don't usually stream anything from my PC to my PS3 or 360 I can see where that would be really annoying for some people. If I could simply plug an external HDD in via USB and play things directly then that might not be so bad either.... I archive literally everything I own on 2 4tb drives that are not games.... From CD/DVD backups to photos and Comic book scans.... I like to preserve my originals....

Well, the PS3 had some FAT32 vs NTSC issues regarding external storage though.... I'll likely just try everything myself once it releases because I never trust anything I haven't tested myself 100% anyways....

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit bummed at the lack of DLNA support on PS4. I currently use my PS3 for streaming music and video from my desktop PC, which works beautifully, and was hoping I could move it to my bedroom so I could listen to music more easily in there, and watch my Blu-ray stuff. I'll probably still move the PS3 in there, but kinda stinks that I'll have to lose the streaming in the living room.
Given Sony's response though, I strongly suspect it's something that will be added sooner rather than later. The hardware can certainly support it, so all that's required is a software update.

I was looking at IGN's XBox One vs PS4 games article. Man, this generation is not going to be that different from the last. THe PS3 and 360 were basically the same. I think it's the XBox One and PS4 will end up being the same system as well.

Yeah, that's exactly why I can safely say I don't really care about possibly not getting an Xbox One (or at least not for quite a while).
During the 7th gen, getting both a PS3 and Xbox 360 was pretty worthless, considering almost all the good 360 games were also on the PS3, and it barely had any exclusives worth playing. I got both anyways (actually I bought all 7th gen systems twice...), but I could've easily gone without the 360 (would've missed a couple XBLA games and some shmups...).
So I figure that, once again, both consoles will get roughly the same library, and since the PS4 is seemingly more developer-friendly for now, it sounds like the better buy.

Yeah, I think pick the one with the few exclusives you like. Then get probably 10 games max on the other console once it becomes retro. I will probably pick up a PS3 for Yakuza. But even the Naughty Dog games don't keep me entertained much. But I do like Forza. And it seems to come down to those little things... which do you prefer Halo or Killzone.
At least with the Wii U I feel like I would be missing something. Even if it is not my first choice.
This weeks GiantBombCast summed up this battle between Microsoft and Sony very well "there will be a lot of rubble but no casualties". I would tend to believe this.

What can I say, except watching recent vs videos has done nothing to actually impress me. I was hoping for more at this point. As for Onlive, they do still exist and bounced back harder after they filed Chapter 13 Restructuring. Their library keeps getting more impressive by the month. As for Ouya, you get dizzy when thinking about how fast their 500 count game library grew. They even recently got big-boy titles on board with the system, via established major publishers. Final Fantasy III published by Squre for example. Even spotted a PS2/PC title, The Bard's Tale.
These two underdog systems know where computer entertainment technology is migrating and investing in it the smart way.

Been playing with my ps4 for the last 6 hours or so! I only have BF4, and the servers were GODAWFUL until about 2am.
So, it's pretty much exactly what I expected. It certainly looks better, that's for sure. I notice it most in particulate effects, bits of buildings exploding, etc. Plus, I imagine that Dice probably didn't change much between the ps3/ps4 versions. That being said, it is probably the least noticeable difference between console generations.
I downloaded the two free games for PS+, but haven't had a chance to play those yet.

I've got 5 games at the moment and apparently Amazon didn't get Need for Speed so that'll be next week hopefully.
I am rather enjoying myself so far. First game I fired up was Knack. Went in with low expectations but also I only ever expected it to be a simple launch game. I ended up enjoying it more then I expected to. It's basically just like a Crash Bandicoot sort of game. And it's oddly difficult sometimes.
Played some Resogun which is pretty cool and some sweet music. I suck at these kinds of games but eventually I completed it on Rookie.
Next I tried out some Killzone and after waiting for all the boring story intro stuff I got to some shooty parts. Game looks impressive but I wasn't in the right mindset to be playing a shooter at that moment. I'll come back to it today maybe.
Played that Contrast game for like 15 mins. Seemed weird and neat. Wasn't really feeling it though and maybe I'll come back to it.
Popped Lego Marvel Super Heroes in next. Man these Lego games are always so damn charming and cute. Played it for awhile and will do more today.
Before going to bed I popped in Assassin's Creed 4. Ended up looking better than I expected. I'll definitely play it more today.
Also got FIFA14 for free on one of the deals so I haven't tried that out yet. I'm not a sports person and never buy these kinds of games but we'll see. I might have fun dicking around in it.
And then NFS I'm looking forward to so that could be good next week.
My biggest and only real complaint so far is the main system interface itself. I didn't think the PS3 one was bad and it worked fine for me. I feel like there is a lack of organization to the menu. I like something fairly minimalistic. I want there to be a Games tab where all game stuff goes and it is always the default tab the system starts on and it's always at the "front" of the menu per say. I want to be able to make sub menus/folders. So on PS3, under Games, I had a folder for Arcade (all the small download arcade-like PSN games), a folder for Demos (any demo went here. I still have the Gran Turismo HD Concept one which can't be downloaded these days), a folder for Free Games (any games I got for Free from PS+) etc. Also had my Video menu listed similarly with folders for TV, Comedy, Movies etc. As it seems to be now on PS4, it adds a menu option for every game you play onto the main cross media bar thing. Mine is already overcrowded and I don't like it. The "What's New" is the default and first menu tab, seems neat but I don't really need it, at least at the front.
Less serious is I liked the UI customization on the PS3. How you could change colors of the background and stuff. Changing "Themes" was pretty cool as well.
In the end I'm hopeful they'll patch this kind of stuff in with firmware updates. I'm glad I got the system and I haven't had any real problems with it so far. Commence PS4 Day 2.

If ever I changed my mind about the new consoles, think I would go with the Xbox One... for this very simple reason... I don't want my console cooking itself. The Xbox One looks too be very efficiently ventilated on the sides and half of the top. About time they did this right. Now for the PS4 *groans* WHY are there NO air intakes or no means of proper ventilation on this unit. Did the designers not pay attention in class when discussing Thermal Dynamics. These new consoles are supposed to be a better match to existing game rigs and thus require fresh cool air to be sucked in to replace the hot air being pushed out. No air intakes... no fresh cool air. From what I can see, the PS4 chasis is built internally to be the perfect vacuum chamber. Thermal Dynamics teaches us designers that heat expands a lot faster in a vacum. I am really disappointed in Sony. The PS4 display model says the console will cook itself to death faster than the first generation Xbox 360 did. It also says Sony will loose a serious amount of money, if they do not address this problem right away.

The above stated situation thankfully does not exist. Being too busy to get online much, since the release of the PS4, did not help much to soften the impact of what I personally could not see. After watching the video, I can honestly say my attention migrates back to PS4 and Xbox One will just have to wait much further down the road. The PS4 is clearly a very fine machine to be watched.
Oh something else is bothering me now. Has everyone now abandoned this thread just because one of the two consoles is now out on shelves?

I tried 2 demos at an EB Games store this week-end, and man it was great. I love the new controller, it's super comfortable! Knack was really fun, and I also tried a digging game but I don't know how it's called. All in all, I loved what I tried.

I have. The only interest I had in anything this generation was Wii U, PS4, and a little bit in the 3DS (mostly Link to the past 2). Now that they are all available for me right now, not much more for me to add here.

Mmmmm a little. I wouldnt turn one down but so far I havent seen too much about it. I may check into it more later on but right now with the PS4, Im going to be pretty occupied as far as buying stuff for the future.

I think that hardware-wise, the Vita looks really great. I'm not really aware of the games for it, but it's definitely in my plans to buy one when I can get it for a better price than what I can find right now. I can't complain about the games since I'm not aware, but I definitely have a complain about the price :o Those memory cards are so damn pricy, I can't believe anyone would prefer digital over physical with such storage prices. But all in all, I already own 2 Vita games, and I can't wait to try them :)

Nah, you're probably thinking of Cross-play, which is for games that are on both platforms and let you transfer your save between them.
Remote play is to play PS4-native games streamed on your Vita, through wifi or even 3G. The issue comes with the fact that the Vita doesn't have R2, L2, R3 and L3 buttons on it, so you have to use the back touchpad.

Interested in Vita meself, but have to keep my purchasing priorities in order. My Gen1 DS needs replacing. Then its finding a PSP for parts to replace some components on my Gen2 PSP. Then we can talk Vita LOL

Actually, the DRM is still alive in the Xbox One. It's not on all games, but if you download a digital game on a different Xbox One than the first one you downloaded it on, it will lock you out if you lose the internet connection. It happened during a Killer Instinct tournament that was livestreamed a few days ago, the DRM knocked them out of the game in the middle of a match.

Yup it needs a day one patch in order to open up a lot of the functionality you expect out of the box. I think that includes blu-ray movie playback if I remember correctly.

Well, most people were pretty angry about it. The Xbox one is getting a lot of flak for their online requirements.
To be fair though, I think the PS4 had a day one patch that added stuff too. I don't own either so I can't confirm. I get the impression it wasn't as dire though.

What I would definitely NOT be okay with, if I had an Xbone, is their ban thing if you swear over skype. Yup, you can get banned from certain internet-using applications if you say shit over skype on your Xbone. I could understand if it was profanity while online gaming (managing the infamous "I slept with your mom" isn't a bad idea at all), but on Skype you choose who you add, so it's not the same at all. Just one more reason keeping me away from the console.

I am going to have to disagree with the purpose you propose for the rule. Things like saying you can get banned for language seems like something that should be in place. There comes a point where control has to be in place for admins (or their equivalent). The skype thing comes from this service being linked to the upload service for gameplay. Sony just saw this issue with their analogous playroom. That feature was removed and is still gone as far as I know (although I haven't kept up with it). Nintendo no longer has swap note. And hell, Nintendo was the most draconian. Granted that wasn't so much a language thing. However, people act like idiots. There needs to be some way to not let it get out of control. Microsoft needs this blanket rule. Sony needs this blanket rule. Nintendo needs this blanket rule. Hell, we have this blanket rule. We've banned people in the forum for how posts are made.

But the gameplay and streaming features are new that have already proven troublesome in just one month. At least Microsoft has not removed the feature like some of their competitors.

I understand your point, but the CoD live and skype are two different things. Right now, from my understanding Skype is one and the same with the XBox Live services. They are basically integrating all the services. I believe that was one of the purposes of Microsoft buying skype.

I am holding off for a while before I get a PS4. I have all sorts of issues regarding Microsoft and their XBOX One, and don't anticipate I will ever buy one. But until a library worth dropping several hundred dollars is available on the PS4, I'll happily enjoy my PS3 and Wii still :)

Not true at all... XboxOne can be updated via USB just like 360, PS3 and PS4.
I havent seen anywhere mentioned that you can play the Xbox None without having updated it from the start.
You can do the initial update without the One touching a ethernet cable or wifi, but I am not sure if games actually work without that day1 patch. The only thing I can confirm is that it worked without kinect attached from the get go.

He does have a point. I only have 1 retail game for my PS4 and the 3 free PS+ games on PSN.
I'm hyped for MGSV, Infamous, Watch Dogs and a few others. But they won't be out for awhile. And I'm waiting for AC: Black Flag and Need for Speed: Rivals to drop in price a bit before I pick them up.
I picked up my PS4 on launch because I've never had a launch day console and was instantly sold on it. It didn't matter to me that I would be sitting through a new game drought while I waited for titles that interested me. Since I have plenty of other games to play. I can see why you'd wait for a price drop or a longer period of time before picking on up. That's what I did with my 3DS.

Jumping in and saying I'm waiting until more games are released/announced. So far every game I want to play is multiplatform, none of the exclusive ones interest me at all (except Halo, but meh). Also I have yet to buy a PS3 or 3DS so got to pick up tose ones before I even consider getting next gen :D

I currently do not own any of the next gen consoles (including the Wii U), mostly because I am patiently waiting to see how things develop as the new generation progresses. Both consoles are fairly impressive in their own right, however as to what games will be released on them, how their hardware issues (which are pretty prevalent at the moment from what I've read) will be addressed, and how the industry will evolve with the consoles is what will be the deciding factors for me as to whether or not I buy any of them. The latter reason is the one I am most concerned with. I haven't liked the direction the modern gaming industry has been going for the past three or four years, mostly because of the unappaulegetic greed and the lack of creativity and innovation. In a way, I feel like gaming has lost its soul, with only small glimmers of hope coming from certain developers and publishers over the years. At the moment I am content going "retro" only after this current gen has run its course, seeing how there is a wealth of games prior to the next gen that are very much worthy of buying and playing. Aside from that, at close to 1250 games in my collection, I will be lucky even right now to ever play them all in my lifetime. Just my two sense on the subject.
