Video Showcase / Re: Youtube thread
« on: April 16, 2019, 05:56:07 am »
I've been making videos for about a year and a half and cover a range of games and platforms, and look at hardware and software.

The main channel URL: http:www.youtube.com/c/gouldfishongames

and some of my favourite videos.

Checking out cool extras on old game cd's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYNU673-xGU

Settlers 2 review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkkaDjpkdXM

Atari 600XL restoration and overview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY4dhW7vRmU

I put out a video every week and have been experimenting with doing a few themed months.
Expect more game reviews, hardware deep dives and other random game related videos.

Site Feedback / Re: Option to copy a game to another region
« on: May 04, 2018, 04:15:33 pm »
For a large number of games like those on steam, its the same the world over.

But in this instance I've just picked up a 3DO an a bunch of games (about 30), and 25 of them are not in the EU section but are in the US and as far as I've been all the box art are the same and the descriptions.  The thought of having to add 24 games by mostly copying the data across is putting me off doing it.
At a min it could auto fill the details in which we could then edit.

Site Feedback / Option to copy a game to another region
« on: May 04, 2018, 01:19:36 pm »
I've found quite a few games that are in one region but not another, and so far the only option is to create a new entry and then copy each bit by hand (including downloading images and re-uploading).
It would be great if we could easily copy a game from one region to another, mostly an [EU] issue ;)

A mix of expected and a few hopefully unexpected in this list:

1. Mario 64
2. Mario Kart 64
3. Zelda OOT
4. Pokemon Snap
5. Wipeout 64
6. Wetrix
7. Blast Corps
8. F-Zero X
9. Golden Eye
10. Hybrid Heaven

No Bass Hunter 64  ???

Never played Bass Hunter 64, but the list is of games that I've played and enjoyed on my N64.
Wipeout 64 might look like ass and seems to be trivial to crash, but it was lots of fun in 4 player MP.

Oldest machine from new: Amiga 500+ (1991)

Oldest machine in my collection: Fairchild Channel F (1976)

But I have a few pong clone's that might be older but they are harder to look up.

18. Giga Wreaker (Steam)

A physics puzzle platformer in a very loose metroid skin.
Not a bad game but let down by inconsistent physics and difficulty curve.
But nice to see Game Freak doing something other then Pokemon.

Time to completion: 12 hours

19. Legend of Zelda Links Awakening DX (Gameboy Colour)
Still a great game after all these years.

Would love a snes style make over if just to allow the use of more buttons as the 2 item at a time limit gets annoying at times.

Gaming will be on hold for a few weeks due to moving :(

Please see the first Style Guide section regarding images.
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,22.0.html

For discs, make sure that you scan against a white background. The image used to upload to the site should be JPEG and try to keep the size around 500x500. The site will scale the image dimensions to where 200px is the width. Trying to add a too large of a picture may make the image not show up. Using other formats (like PNG) can cause the image to appear black. Also when scanning a disc, make sure that the title/writing is level. We do not want pictures of discs that are titled or upside down.

Also, do not add watermarks. If you see another picture in the database with a watermark on it, report it so we can remove or get it replaced.

OH: the site does not support the orientation meta tag, so make sure your image is actually correct as sideways pictures will get rejected on edits.

the style guide conflicts with what is mentioned above:

* Images should be as high-res as possible, and without extra blank space on the sides.
* Images must have a width greater than 200px and must be in JPG or PNG format. Files must be smaller than 2MB.

Are PNG accepted or not? should we provide high-res images or not?
If everything is being scaled down to 500x500 then why bother submitting anything better?

It would be nice to clear this up, to make it easier to submit.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Box Text keeps getting denied
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:03:13 pm »
Slightly off topic but It would be nice if there was a reason given for edits being denied.

I've put higher quality box art on some games to have it denied, and with out a reason it can be impossible to guess what you to offence over.
Just a link to the FAQ isn't enough.

Off Topic / Re: The Worst and Best Job you've ever had
« on: January 12, 2018, 05:43:10 am »
Worst Job:
Working for Echo Peak, Unity 3D was (most likely still is) an utter mess of an engine and had to constantly work around issues that the developers never would acknowledge. Ended up working 9am to 11pm for over 2 months with out a day off (including weekends) to get that turd out of the door on the one platform where the Unity runner would actually pass cert (this was the Xbox 360). the Ps3 version was so bad it took Unity another 6 months to turn it around.

Best Job:
Working for Lionhead,  Great studio great people and a great project.  Was sad when the studio closed.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Category/Platform Requests
« on: August 05, 2017, 06:13:21 pm »
Could I get the following new categories added:

Dedicated Console Accessory
(I have a light gun to add which was for the binatone mark 4 + 2 and mark 6.

and 2 new platforms:

Ingersoll.
Ingersoll - Consoles
Ingersoll - Games

Mercury.
Mercury - Consoles

Pictures of the machines that go with those machines can be found here: http://imgur.com/gallery/57ghY
And while techicnally they are pong machines they do accept "carts" with different games on them

If the games were included like books, insets and the like it would help us mark if any of the games were missing.
Or even provide pictures of each of the game media.

It would also be useful so we know if we have a game or not.
