Title: Diablo III's Collector's Edition is Killer
Post by: scott on November 29, 2011, 01:41:52 pm
I'm super hyped about Diablo III, if not more excited for it than I was for Diablo II when it launched. I was doing some searching around and found info on their collector's edition for it. It looks pretty bad ass, and that Diablo skull? omgwant. This set looks like such a better deal than the, also awesome, Skyrim CE. I'll be getting it for sure.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/services/collectors-edition/

By the way, who else is planning to get Diablo III when it launches? My cousin and I are both getting it and will be more than likely playing online constantly.

I'm hyped for D3 for sure, D2 being amongst my most played games ever. What I've seen so far is looking really cool, I can't wait to actually play it (Blizzard better not delay it, we've been waiting for quite a while).
But I have no interest in the collector's edition... Yeah, the Diablo skull is cool, but not worth the extra money to me, and there's nothing else interesting in there (artbooks and behind-the-scene DVDs don't interest me).

Blizzard, more than any other company, always makes their collectors editions amazing.

@jobocan I see your point. I love making of documentaries and artbooks though (Still need to find a copy of Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar...) and compared to the $150 price tag of Skyrim, this seems well worth the extra money to me. :)

I'm all over this as well, I spent hundreds of hours on Diablo II... This just gives me another reason to upgrade my PC.

@varkias I'm calling dibbs on the Demon Hunter right now. I checked my stats on my PC, I should have no problem running this on it. Maybe a slight video card upgrade for optimized performance, but as far as processor speed and RAM, I should be sitting pretty.

Blizzards games also never demand super high specs which is another reason they are so wonderful ha.

@Scott. I don't know what gpu you have but soon the nvidea 600 series is gonna come out. The 460 gtx and 560 will be really affordable. I have a 460 with a slight Overclock and I can run skyrim on high with some settings at ultimate. The 460 is already sub$200. It'll be really affordable soon and its pretty solid for a casual gamer. The 560 is also worth looking into.

heck. ill even sell you my 460 (1gb) for cheap if you really want one :p

My system is a Dell XPS 630, which I bought in '08. My current video card is the one that shipped with it, which is a nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512mb. I'd be tempted to update if i was going to get serious about PC gaming again. I think it should handle Diablo 3 just fine though.

I'd take you up on the offer, if i wasn't spending $400+ on a new kit for snow season and Christmas wasn't coming up...

you're 2 generations behind the 260 :/ The 8800 is pretty ancient. it was a beast back in the day though.

Ya my machine is nearly 4 years old. It runs New Vegas cranked up just fine... but ya it's old. That's one thing I don't like about PC gaming.

Oh wow, those aren't bad at all.  My PC is about 4 years old at this point, I'm running 8800 GTs too in SLI.  I can pretty much play any games, but I can't run most of the new stuff maxed out anymore
Title: Re: Diablo III's Collector's Edition is Killer

Yeah as far as processing power and ram I'm all set. The graphics card could use an update though. Did some cleaning in my PC room today and while I was at it I loaded up the desktop and updated it with the latest driver for now.

I've never ran 2 graphics cards before. Maybe if i snagged a new one I could run both my 8800 GT and whatever else I get simultaneously? I don't know a lot about that kinda stuff though.

Is your motherboard sli compatible? To run SLI both cards have to be the same.

Ah, that I'm not sure of, other than I know there are 2 PCI Express slots on the board.

Just watched this preview of Blizzard's Book of Cain companion, the artwork alone blows me away. I love when game companies go full nerd and bust out things like this.

@madmax Yes, but then I could ruin the game that way! I'm actually glad I missed out on the beta, so I didn't ruin the beginning of it. :)

Got the Book of Cain supplement book in the mail Monday. This thing is wicked, the cover is textured and all of the info really builds on the mythos. Not to mention the artwork, it's amazingly well drawn. Plus it comes with a map of Sanctuary, they even made it look weathered. I'll have to frame it along side the Skyrim map.

Maybe I should look into it more.

Well, they just announced Diablo is coming to consoles. Personally I think it's not going to be as good as the PC version, but the masses rose up and begged for it, and Blizzard bent over for them. As long as this doesn't push the development time even further back I'm fine with it. But, they already tried Diablo on console before and it was meh. So I'll still be getting it for PC, the addition of Achievements or Trophies isn't enough to get me to switch to a console version of the game.

Strange how I never mentioned in this topic that I played the beta.... though it's also strange that Blizzard never emailed me to say I was part of it, I just found out that I was in by randomly logging into my account.

Anyways... the game is fun and well made as expected, but you really shouldn't go in expecting "Diablo 2 but better". It's really quite different from Diablo 2, what with the complete lack of stat customizing and even skill customizing is very rudimentary (choose a skill, assign a rune which you get by leveling up). No way to level individual skills up, you just assign 1 rune per skill. It seems to me that what will differentiate your character from other peoples' is solely from the loot you pick up (your skill set-up also counts for something, there's a large variety, but eventually people will find "top tier" stuff and you can change your setup whenever you want anyways). The combat is great though, and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes.

The beta didn't give a whole lot to experiment with, what with it making the max level 13... But enough to see where the game is going. The gameplay and combat is really fun and each class does something unique though there's definitely an emphasis on AOE attacks.

I'm still picking up the game, but with very different expectations from before.

Just spent all weekend playing the Beta, I really enjoyed it.  All classes to level 13, beat Act 1 with all of them, maxed Blacksmithing and got all the beta achievements.  I'm very excited for this to come out next month.

I'm pretty sure, I'm the only one of my friends that is getting it. So for multiplayer I'll prolly be looking for folks from here to play with. Though I played through both of the first two games solo, so I don't care either way.

I'm not all that impressed with the collector's edition.

Yeah, me neither, it's pretty meh. I'm not a fan of collector's editions overall, but it's still pretty disappointing IMO. I mean, no huge Diablo statue? Lame.

Speaking of Diablo 3 coming out in 2-3 days and it being awesome...
Well, I'm currently playing the Torchlight 2 beta... and, to be honest, it kinda kicks Diablo 3's ass, at least as far as what the betas showcased for both games. It really shows what Diablo 3 is lacking, what with having actual stats/skill customizing rather than every character in a class being 100% identical, and the actual fighting is just as good in both games, and Torchlight 2 seems to have more of an emphasis on exploration and side-quests (while Diablo 3 seems to concentrates more on providing a great story and atmosphere... at least from what I've seen in the beta).

I know I'll love Diablo 3, I did have fun with the beta and I'm getting it on tuesday after (or maybe during) work... but I'm guessing I'll only play through it once or twice. Since there's no reason to, say, create a second demon hunter (since it would play identical to the previous one I made), I don't see this as a game with replay value. Torchlight 2, however, gives the chance to experiment with different builds for each class (like Diablo 2 did), and the core gameplay is just as solid as far as I've seen.

</completely random rant>

Just bought the Steelseries Diablo 3 mouse, yay! Mostly because my previous mouse was a piece of crap, but still... now I have a mouse that lights up and stuff :P

I currently have the Razer Naga gaming mouse. Something about the absurd 12 button key pad on the side of it just beckoned to me. It's super comfortable and works really well with SWTOR. I wish it emitted a red glow though, since the rest of my rig is Red/Silver/Black..

My friend has a Razer Naga, it seems pretty cool. I don't play MMOs though, so having a mouse with 12 macro buttons is a bit useless to me.
I actually got the Diablo 3 mouse because, surprisingly, it was one of the cheapest not-lame wired mice at Best Buy. Just like how I got the Logitech G110 gaming keyboard because it was the cheapest wired keyboard they had.

Well most people in America can't even play the game right now because Blizzard started "Emergency Maintenance" on their servers. Hopefully this'll be sorted out by the time I get home. And this should also be good proof that "always online" DRM isn't a good idea. I do wonder what the point of their beta test was when they didn't even have the servers 100% ready for the launch... Apparently it should all be back by 4:30 EST.
Title: Re: Diablo III's Collector's Edition is Killer
Post by: soera on May 15, 2012, 03:13:10 pm
LMAO, thats just about fitting for any release of an online game. I used to hate the day an expansion was launched on Everquest cause the next week was nothing but server downs and when it was up, the new areas were lagged to piss.

My only hope is that you guys say the game sucks (yeah right) and that it was a good thing I cancelled my pre-order.

As long as it's up and running by the time I get home tonight, I'm fine. But yeah... you would think the servers would have been all ready to go for launch day... fail DRM is fail.

It's still that way. They just updated SWTOR with the latest content patch, and the first week was hell. Not to mention they introduced a limited time only event that same day and had everyone and their brother flooding Tatooine.
