Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Error Listings 2017
« on: September 20, 2017, 03:56:24 pm »
I'm currently cleaning and completing a few entries in the Playstation 2 European section and i have a few questions before starting to submit a lot of (maybe) useless edits, i was wondering what to do with games that don't have any TLD in theirs titles, those games are usually the European version, like this one, if those version exist and if they don't, it's usually the UK variant that goes into those entries, right ?

Then what if i find a game that don't have a TLD in the title and is neither a UK or a EU variant ? Should i edit the name to add the TLD (even though most people that have it in their collection does probably not own that particular variant) or should i modify the item to become the UK variant (and then submit a new item for that variant) ?

Exemples:

.hack//Mutation Part 2
https://vgcollect.com/item/19562 -> title without TLD, have German front cover and UK back cover and doesn't have any barcode to identify what variant it really is.
https://vgcollect.com/item/56028 -> "PEGI Rating" suffix in title, have UK front and back cover (barcode confirm it too)

For that exemple should we edit item 19562 to become the German variant (since it already have the German front cover) and then remove the [PEGI Rating] from item 56028, or should we merge them together and create another item for the German variant ?

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2
https://vgcollect.com/item/66795 -> item without TLD, have a PEGI front cover (like many EU variant) and a French back cover, barcode is for the French version too.

In this case the item has been created to be the French variant but no TLD was added in the title so it would be simple to edit it to add a little [FR] but since the UK variant doesn't exist in the database i'm sure many people who added that item in their collection probably didn't have that particular variant (i'm sure most people doesn't check the data of the items, they only check the title and the front cover), so if we edit it they will now have a "Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 [FR]" in theirs collection.

Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia
https://vgcollect.com/item/48934 -> item without TLD, have a PEGI Front cover (again like many EU variant) and a French back cover (edited after the creation of the item), the barcode is for the French variant (again edited).

This last exemple is the worst type of item for me, since it have been edited (even by me, i added the French box text since i've seen it was now the French variant) we don't know what was created to be the original item (does it have any barcode at first, what about the back cover...), should i re submit edit to make that item become the UK variant (which is not in the database) or simply add a [FR] at the end of the title (like in the previous exemple, many people will then have a [FR] title in their collection) then submit another item for the UK variant ?

-----

I think that if the item was edited after the creation we should re edit it to become the UK variant since we don't know what was the original data of the item but if the item was not edited in any way then we should respect what was added by the creator of the item and edit it to become the variant he added in the database, for case like item 19562 (the .Hack//Mutation with a front and back cover from two different variant) when we don't know what variant it really is, i think they should also been edited to become the UK variant (or merged together if the UK variant already exist), but that's only what i think and i will let the mods have the final words on items like those.

I see in the History tab that no change have been made to that item, what if we try to edit and re-upload the covers ? Maybe they will appear then.

Are there any non-UK Euro Platinum editions?  If so they are pretty elusive since I haven't found any yet while searching.  I'm about to buy the UK Platinum new/sealed.  :D

Yes there is a few of them, i only got the first ones i found on ebay so there is probably better offers than these (i also didn't check where they ship) but at least you know they exist, the first is the Italian variant :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/322439572893?rmvSB=true

The French variant:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Final-Fantasy-12-XII-Version-Platinum-VF-PS2-/332292270788

The German variant:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS-2-FINAL-FANTASY-XII-FINAL-FANTASY-12-Verpackung-Anleitung-Platinum-/112561609240

And i pretty sure there is a Spanish variant somewhere but i find can't anything about it, it seems strange that all other country where the Original version got release have theirs Platinum edition except for that country.

I don't really care about the rarity or the value of the games i have, i only get the games that i want to play when i find them cheap but if i think about the value my mind directly go on the PS1, the French version of Suikoden II can easily go for more than 150€ even in the cheapest shops i know and if the release of Star Ocean 2 on PSP made the price of the PS1 version drop a little it still usually go for more than 100€ (since the EU release of the PSP version was only in English, the only official French translation, even if it is a really bad one, is still the PS1 version), that's all concerning the value but if i think about rarity, i think the rarest would probably be the Pal French variant of Ar Tonelico 2 on PS2, that game didn't a lot of release in Europe and it was a nightmare just to get one on release in some country, i was on a French forum at the time and i heard that only 800 unit of that game was going to be released in France (box and manual in French, the game was still in English), i don't know if it's true but what i know is that in 8 years of game hunting i've seen that game a lot of time, 99% of the time it's an English variant, i've seen two German and one Italian variant but the only French variant i've seen in all these years is the one i have in my collection, maybe i have other gems on my shelves maybe not, i don't really know and... well, i don't really care either, maybe i fear that the value would incite me to sell them...  :-\

Site Feedback / Re: Style Guide Update Poll Idea Submissions
« on: August 23, 2017, 08:24:51 pm »
New poll thoughts. If there is an item that contains or otherwise has a code for a digital game, how should it be entered in the database?

Here are a couple examples that it really pertains to, and it was also discussed with some game boxes that just have a code in it in the thread below.
https://vgcollect.com/item/131172
https://vgcollect.com/item/131174

https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,7418.0.html

Some options for answers that I thought of:

1. Item remains in physical section as is
2. Item is moved to swag, in essence splitting the game that you get from the code into the digital category as a separate item, while the physical card is in the swag category.

That is a pretty good subject, it's been on my mind for a while since i have the Collector's Edition of Child of Light in my collection and i don't really know in what category it should be. This is basically a box with a code inside, a PSN key that once you use it you will be able to download the game on both the PS3 and PS4, so it's a game for two different platforms. This is a PSN game but this is also a physical item so it doesn't belong in the PSN section (since those section are digital only... and even if we make an exception for that case, in which section should we put it ? in the PSN for the PS3 or for the PS4...  :-\).

For now that edition is in both physical section (PS3 & PS4):

https://vgcollect.com/item/81344 (PS3 - AU)
https://vgcollect.com/item/78189 (PS4 - AU)
https://vgcollect.com/item/59239 (PS3 - EU)
https://vgcollect.com/item/59238 (PS4 - EU)
https://vgcollect.com/item/127209 (PS3 - EU - ES version)
https://vgcollect.com/item/127208 (PS4 - EU - ES version)

I was going to add the FR version but i think i will wait to see what we are going to do with this type of items.

I have another case to talk about, Portal 2 for PS3, the game is on the disk, everything is cool on that side but the box of that game also contain a key to unlock the Steam version... so this is a PS3 version but also a PC version (since a code in a box is apparently considered as a game) ? I just wanted to bring that up but i think we should leave it as it is in the PS3 section and put a note in the Description field that it also contain a Steam key, this is a pretty isolated case so we can make an exception.

I'm really interested by anything related to Ar Tonelico/Ar nosurge and i'm also interested by that Radiant Hystoria but before going to bother you in PM i was just wondering if you accept to ship in Europe (in France exactly) ? (i would totally understand if you don't ;), the costs for overseas shipping can be totally ridiculous sometimes).

Game with bbfc cover and pegi rating. I might have tried edit it myself but then noticed the barcode: 5026555.05686 and decided instead post this here.

I think the creator of that item made a mistake typing the barcode, he put a . instead of a 3 (an easy mistake when you use the keypad), the barcode 5026555305686 is for the BBFC version of the game (back cover here) so the cover is right but not the rating, i've made an edit for it.

This is what i've got during the past two weeks (so most of it were brought during July but i'm to lazy to make two different post for it  ;D).

Sniper Elite
Socom U.S. Navy Seals - Platinum
Virtua Cop: Elite Edition

PS3:
Star Ocean: The Last Hope - International (the 13th Star Ocean in my collection, i think i will try to get the Japanese PS3 version of SO5 next since it didn't get a release anywhere else on that system)
Steins;Gate (I waited for more than a year to find a good price for the Limited Edition, i think i don't really care about it anymore since when i've seen the normal edition for 3.99€ in a used shop i didn't hesitate to buy it)

PC:
FEAR 2

Ori and the Blind Forest - Definitive Edition
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation
Sam & Max - Season 1
Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy
Two Worlds II

Xbox:

I was in a garage sales and while i don't usually check for casette my eyes were attracted by the one that was on the top (it was the music from Ken le Survivant, the French name for Hokuto no Ken) so i still checked them to see what else he had and i found 5 ZX Spectrum casettes. Usually i wouldn't have bought them since i don't own the system but for the price (20 cts each, 1€ for the six) plus the fact that it started to rain and the guy absolutely didn't care about protecting his stuff from it i decided to take them with me, maybe i will find someone to give them to.

Airwolf
Daley Thompsons Decathlon
Horizons (Software starter pack)
Hunchback II: Quasimodo's Revenge
Tank Trax

Skylanders: (I found a used shop where the skylanders were at 1€ each and it was a Buy 3 get 1 Free offer so i took four that i didn't had)

Chill (Series 2)
Grim Creeper (Lightcore)
Roller Brawl
Star Strike (Lightcore)

I also got a Dark Souls III cover Plate for the PS4 and this morning my young niece given me a Sonic Mug and a f*cking huge Pikachu plushie, my birthday is coming next week and she wanted to give them today since she will be leaving for vacation tomorrow.

Anyone look into JPN or EU versions?

I've already preorder an European version since June 28 but all the French sites i know are now sold out and most of the shops only got around ten preorder available two weeks ago so in a day or two it was over... the only available offers are some scalpers already putting offer on a few sites for 150/200€ :( .
