Post by: ignition365 on January 10, 2018, 12:58:05 pm
A lot of folks speculated that it would be tomorrow.  Gamestop tweeted that it starts in about 30 minutes.  I figured I'd make a thread.

I'll update the thread with any info if there is any.

There's been a lot of talk about the new Pokemon Game on Switch. I'm interested in potentially hearing about either that or some Metroid Prime 4.

A lot of fake tweets and false alarms for the past week, so make sure you double-check Nintendo's official outlets if you see an announcement!

Resetera has descended into madness due to the hype and trolling.

Nintendo continues to prove to be top tier manipulators.  Apparently Gamestop not only put up a tweet they deleted right about a Direct happening soon, they have 6 more Switch SKU's showing up in their system, much like what happened with Amazon.  We have just about everything but a time right now lol  Just goes to show how well the Switch is doing right now if so many people are getting excited over any new game information.

No one has a clue when it's actually happening.  It has to be soon, but Nintendo doesn't want to actually answer.  I mean, I can't blame them, stoking the fires is clearly working, but the supposed date is tomorrow with leaks all over the place, but still nothing.  Would be weird for them to end up announcing a direct the day of unless they simply had to delay it for whatever reason.

The hype is higher than ever with them NOT announcing it.  So it could work.

From Software is one of the confirmed 3rd party developers for the switch and there were rumors of a Dark Souls Trilogy being released for the Switch.

I doubt that's what is going on... but I'd definitely buy that day one and go through those games again.

Well that was a giant tease. Nintendo gets off trolling it's fans. I sincerely hope there is another ACTUAL Nintendo Direct soon, as in the next week, or else I'm going to be pissed. I love Nintendo's games, but I absolutely hate them as a company.

Meh... I'm really uninterested in most of this.  The one that would tickle my fancy the most is Donkey Kong and I already have it on WiiU and 3DS.  The other stuff is just that, stuff.

It was a mini-direct and it was sub par in quality.

I disagree.  Maybe you're just sour because of the hype the internet made of it.

It was a no-frills all content direct.  Non of that direct shenanigans, and no wasting time on 3-5 minute demos.  I appreciated them getting down and direct to the point.

The direct was fine for what it was, people just over-hyped it based on leaks and rumors, and Nintendo didn't help anything with their trolling.  We are bound to get something else in probably like March, like it makes sense to have one on the first anniversary, and then we'll get more with E3, this was mostly just set up for the next few months.

Not that the direct wowed me, but I'm at least glad to see Hyrule Warriors getting a remaster as I was honestly expecting it to show up.  The only downside is that I was hoping they were gonna add in a Breath of the Wild chapter, but sadly not.  Oh well, I've been wanting to replay it and to get it with the 3DS content is great as I didn't play that version much outside of running through the story mode, because I don't like to play on handhelds.

I've only watched one of the trailers and saw the headlines, but I'm thankful they didn't spend 20 minutes on nothing like they did with the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 mechanics like they did for that other direct.

I'm hyped for TWEWY. Didn't think that would ever make it over since it's really designed around the 2-screen aspect. Curious how it'll translate over. Makes me hopeful about other DS/3DS items being available for the Switch.

It's a port of the iOS/Android version I believe.

Ugh, I hope not, though it explains how they've adjusted the gameplay for a single screen. I'll keep an eye on it. The dual screen action created a great frenzy that might be lost on one screen (especially if they still have the second character controlled by AI only).

And something I saw pointed out on Reddit, but when Nintendo usually does these Mini Directs, there's usually a proper one that'll do within a few weeks afterwards, so possibly another Direct by the end of the month.  They could delay that though and go with the idea I had and do something for the Switch anniversary.  This was just something small to get people interested in games over the next months and then we'll get one with likely bigger games coming up for later on like Fire Emblem and more.

Kirby star allies looks so amazing.  I'm not sure how I feel about the endless line of remasters though.  While I love those games.  I own them already and i'm so tired from remasters.  I do see myself getting hyrule though :).

But they "remastered" them in beautiful HD, even though they were all in HD to begin with! You need the remaster. I can't wait for Super Mario Odyssey to be remastered, it was so old-hat and ugly when it came out like a whole month ago! Ancient history, a complete re-mastery is long over-due. It'll probably be announced in the main Direct.

Okay, now that all of that sarcasm is out of my system... This is why modern gaming disinterests me. Rehash, rehash, rehash.

A lot of this is caused by how much it takes to develop a game these days and how fast it hits the clearance bin. I was thinking about Square Enix and how they have been developing all of their upcoming  games for half a decade now and still have little to show. So they deluge the marketplace with remasters and ports to bring in some revenue along with some quick mobile games to draw monthly revenue.

Then when Kingdom Hearts 3 releases it will sell for $60 for a month before dropping about $10 every month after release. Not a lot of revenue and sales from what they put in to it. So now they will have to sell a season pack for DLC. It is a bad trend. When I was a kid and average NES  game was about $80-$90 if you calculate inflation.  I realize some of that was cost of the catridge, but we have become stingy as consumers.

I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that this is basically a way to save games from a failed console and introduce them to an entirely new audience.  Yeah, it's not for a lot of us who previously owned a Wii U, but a lot of people also got rid of their Wii U, such as me, and to get some of the good games again on a better system, or even the more complete version (Hyrule Warriors having the 3DS content, but now it's on a console), is great to me.  It's also really good filler between major releases.  Like there's not much I'm looking forward to anytime soon on Switch, but I'll totally pick up Hyrule Warriors again in the meantime when it releases in like March or April.

EDIT: Possible leak from Nintendo Hong Kong puts it around March 22nd for there, but likely the same or close for other regions.

But why does Dark Souls need a remaster? I'd say the vast majority of anyone who's ever wanted to play that game, has done so already. Seems like they're just throwing any successful last gen game at the Switch and hoping that it'll stick.

That's a part of third party support as that remaster is coming to PS4 and Xbone as well.  That's a good thing its getting a Switch release at the same time, even if it's just a remaster.  Bringing a souls game to a Nintendo system opens it up to a new audience who may not have played those games yet too.  Plus in the case of Switch, it adds a new aspect to the game, which is that a Souls game is now portable for the first time.  Not gonna say that every port or remaster is worth it, but the Wii U releases make a whole lot of sense, and its a good sign that Switch is getting another multiplatform release at the same time it is coming to other systems.
