Title: Hyrule Warriors
Post by: kamikazekeeg on September 18, 2014, 04:00:21 am
Finally it is coming out next week and I'm pretty excited for it.  It seems to be about as good as I was expecting it to be according to a review I watched, which it will probably be nothing really amazing because it is the repetitive Dynasty Warriors gameplay, but overall still a pretty fun game with a lot to collect and accomplish in it.

It's also been released that the three villains of the game will be added for free to the game as playable characters in the next update.  There will be monthly DLC which will include kind of a little bit of everything with each one, ranging from game modes, new adventure maps (Which I believe is the Zelda NES map, so maybe more based on like A Link to the Past and others?), new characters, and new costumes.  It's basically a season pass thing where if you pre-order it, you'll get Dark Link right away.  This is for the Japanese version right now, so not sure if any of that will change when the North American version is released.

Not sure how I feel about monthly DLC, but at least playable villains is cool  :)

I'm kinda disappointed in the good reviews, I was looking forward to seeing all the DW haters shriek in horror when they discovered that their new Zelda game IS a DW game.  :P

In all seriousness, really looking forward to this game.  My U needs some love.  ;D

So far, loving the game.  More than I thought really.  It's just a lot of fun, I love all the nods to past games, I like how they are justifying bringing in all of the characters, I'm running around in a very green and simpler Ocarina of Time based Link outfit, it's good stuff lol

Would you reccomend getting the game right now? Or is it better to wait until the price drops on it?

I would probably recommend it if you are a Zelda fan.  Sure, it's an entirely different game, but it has lots of fan service and I was completely enjoying myself all afternoon.  If you like Dynasty Warrior games, I've been told, you will love it also.  If you are both a DW fan and a Zelda fan, this may be one of the best games you play this year LOL

For me, as having not really played much Dynasty Warriors, but being a huge Zelda fan, it's good fun, even more than I thought I would.  It is also a completionists dream game, because it looks to take over 200 hours to master it according to Jirard the Completionist.  I could see it getting repetitive at a certain point, but I expect to get a lot of hours out of the game which to me warrants its price tag.

I *really* wanted to pick it up today, but in the end I had to cancel it.  I'm picking up Shadow of Mordor next week & I just grabbed Ar nosurge.  Just too much all at once, and Hyrule had the distinction of being the one of those that had no real incentive to pick it up at launch.

Yeah, in NA we had to real reason to want it day one. A choice of maybe one DLC, while the rest of the world has all 3 DLCs + scarves? It's almost insulting  :-\ Anyway, I'll get it for sure; just at a lower price. It seems like a really good game, but I can wait, I have lots of other good games to help me wait  ;D

Well, I've already got my pre-order money on Bayonetta 2, so I'll probably pick it up once it goes down in price, but I still want to try it out, since it looks like a pretty fun game from the gameplay footage I've seen.

Been having a lot of fun with this game so far.  If you go in expecting a traditional Zelda game you are sure too be disappointed.  However, it is impossible to not have fun playing this game.  Just great nonstop action and fanservice that has more than enough content to satisfy me until Zelda U is released.

Yeah I was kinda hoping they were gonna add in more or better exploration to give it a better Zelda feel, but it's pretty minimal.  Basically it's just a coat of Zelda over top a body of Dynasty Warriors, but the fan service is ridiculously high and I was constantly grinning at every little addition they put in.  I never had much interest in DW, but fill it with Zelda stuff and I'll love it lol

I did a full playthrough, doing a marathon of the normal difficulty campaign and really enjoyed it, though my left thumb is going to hate me for it lol Still so much left over to do as I still have to unlock 4 characters, weapons, and whatever else there is to get.  Took me like 10 or so hours to beat it.

I have played it enough where I could have finished Legend mode by now, but I have been replaying through every level on the three difficulty level and finding all of the heart pieces and skulltulas.  Then I have to finish the other modes and max my character levels :P

Sure I would rather be playing through dungeons and exploring the world, but doing things like wiping out 70 enemies with Link's sword spin is so much fun.

Now you just need to beat the game and then you can go through all the levels again on an even harder difficulty :D I'm mostly just gonna try and unlock as much of the actual content that I can, which are weapons, characters, and I guess items.  I'm totally not looking forward to the Skulltula's though as they sound incredibly rough on the higher difficulties, but you need them for the Blue and Red tunics for Link :\

I'm enjoying this game a lot. It's a nice change of pace for the Zelda franchise, even if it's just Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin. It's good mindless fun, with some deep aspects in it for good measure. I like to get lost in the action!
The fan service is strong with this one indeed and I love every bit of it, lol!

The only things I wish this had was a way we could switch to other characters during a scenario. I also wish there was an online Co-Op mode. I also wish the grunt and ally AI would be a tiny bit more aggressive but I assume that's how it was in DW.
It's also kind of odd when you play a certain character in free mode and in the level you see an NPC of the same character you're playing as.

Minor gripes aside, it's a fun game and I hardly ever played any of the DW games!

I was watching the Completionist's review last night w/ my wife, and about half-way into it she looks right at me & goes "You *have* to get this game - for yourself!"  Hehehe, she knows my love of DW and my love of Zelda, and was kinda surprised when I told her I canceled my preorder.  I've got enough credit to cover all but about $25 of it tho, so I think I'm gonna bite by the end of the week.  ;)

I've only played Samurai Warriors prior to this and didn't find it quite as enjoyable, but I'm really liking Hyrule Warriors so far.  I think the lack of just full-blown action games on the 3DS and Wii U probably makes me like it more.  Been doing co-op with my girlfriend.  Hopefully we can get everything in it done before Borderlands comes out.

I MUST have the soundtrack to this game!  Simply amazing!

So far my only complaint is that Nintendo still won't allow Zelda characters to actually talk.  :-\ Very small nit-pick, but in 2014 it really stands out.

I don't mind it TOO much, it is a little silly, but it's just kinda Zelda's thing, though the obnoxious "Oh, Ah, Uhh" sound effects for when they talk get a tad obnoxious lol I don't see the necessity of them doing it and the day Link talks will be a weird one lol

The constant little "uhh," "hrrr," "ehh" sounds in place of dialog is really jarring. It'd be better completely silent.

From my experience, that's a very Japanese way of doing it. Lots of Japanese RPGs have these kinds of sounds during dialogs without full voice acting. It sometimes doesn't fit at all, like in Fire Emblem: Awakening where the sound is sometimes the opposite of what the character says, haha.

That's my only compliant I had with the game. I wish there was more voice acting since the one- word/grunts really doesn't convey what the character is trying to say at the moment. Maybe they'll get a bigger budget for the next game because of Awakening's success and be able to add more spoken dialogue into the game.

Well I do remember there are 4 different Fire Emblem Awakening Drama CDs based on different events  of the game through that were released awhile back only in Japan. It was interesting to listen to, even though I couldn't understand most of what was going on. There are unoffical text translations for all of the lines in those CDs around the net so it would worth a read/listen. I wish they could take the sort of ongoing dialogue and put in the game; I'd fill like it would draw me into the game even more.

I think what make there being no voice acting odd at least for this game is the fact that it has a narrator. normally no voice acting for a Zelda game is fine with me but this one it seems to bother me a little.

It's not a budget issue, it's definitely a Nintendo quirk.  I say that because every other Warriors game has full voice acting, and they always have since the first game on the PS2 if I remember correctly.  That's one of the things that makes it so jarring here to me.

It's totally a Nintendo quirk.  Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, offered to do the voice of Link, and Miyamoto pretty much responded with "Link will never talk (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/2014/01/charles-martinet-turned-down-as-the-voice-of-link/)."

Well, maybe it's more of a Miyamoto quirk.

The next update which comes with the free boss characters is out today along with the first DLC pack for the game which includes another Adventure Map the same size as before, new prequel scenario, and some new items, such as Epona for Link.  Epona is pretty fantastic, probably my favorite weapon of Link's so far (Haven't unlocked the Great Fairy yet) mostly because of the mobility.  You slash and strike as you continue to move with the horse, so it cuts through minions and everything really great.

Haven't done the scenario yet for Cia, but I'm liking playing as Cia, though I'm not normally fond of the specials that kinda just hold you in place too much.  Volga seems cool, but only did one level, and haven't played as Wizzro yet.

The adventure map this time around looks like it'll unlock some new options for your weapons and at least one new recolor costume for everyone I assume as Link's first costume you unlock in it is a purple version of his Hyrule Warriors outfit.  Only minor disappointment I'd say is that the map itself is exactly the same as the original one, just with all the challenges and items being different.  Kinda woulda been cool to have it be Zelda 2 or a Link to the past instead I guess, even if the map itself really doesn't matter.  Also a little bit of a challenge to it is that each challenge on the map has an assortment of like 6 or so handicaps, like being unable to guard or get healing items, stuff like that.

Overall, just more content that is gonna keep me playing for a good long while as I'm not even done with standard game yet lol

Anyone else still playing? I finally have all of the main weapons unlocked for Link (Not all of the more powerful versions) and I gotta say that the Great Fairy is amazing.  Visually, it's literally you moving around the giant fairy, with Link trapped in a bottle that she floats around and when ever she goes to do special moves, she dumps him out, with him either just standing around or participating.  Her yellow bar attack is launching moon from Majora's Mask onto an area.  It's kinda weird going from like Epona, who is always at a faster speed, to the Great Fairy, who is almost always slow, even when going into the run.  She's incredibly fun though and that's what I love best about the game.  The core is rather repetitive with the brain dead enemies and consistent Keep capturing, but the visuals and constantly entertaining Zelda aspects really keep me going to see more.

Also for a news bite, it was confirmed that Amiibo will work with Hyrule Warriors.  We don't know in what way, but I assume this means we'll be able to use Zelda, Link, and eventually Sheik and Ganon when they release, in the game to some degree.  I'm screwed if they decide to do a whole batch of Hyrule Warriors specific figures lol

I did hear about that with Link the other day. I'm not too sure if they're going to make game specific figurines since this first series of amiibos seems like the testing ground for their usage, so they may do game specific figures if they get popular enough.

I'd like more, but my guess is they'll just do ones they have in Smash, since they'll work for two games.  Especially for Link who will likely be usable in Mario Kart 8 also when his DLC is released.

They've come out with the Amiibo information for Hyrule Warriors and right now, since Link is the only one in the launch lineup for the figures, he will give Link in the game either a new weapon or an item, I don't know which it will be, but it's the spinner thing from I think Twilight Princess that you ride on.  All other amiibo's will give either a material, weapon (which are not new weapons), or rupees.  I'm hoping with each release of the Zelda related figures, they unlock a new weapon or item for the character, so Zelda would be next, then probably Sheik, and then Ganondorf.  Toon Link giving something from Wind Waker would be great too lol

The new DLC for the game is out on November 27th and they've announced the new character, who is Twili Midna, the revealed version of Midna from the game.  She looks like she'll be a range magic charater based on one screenshot I saw.  Pretty cool to be able to play as that version of her.  There's also new costumes, weapons, and of course another adventure map.

For the next kart game in like 2 or 3 years, I just want them to straight up make the first Smash Kart game lol All sorts of characters, all sorts of levels, just go for it.  I'd buy that right now if they announced it lol  Thinking about it more, I want them to make this and instead call it Smash Racing and it's basically Diddy Kong Racing with all kinds of characters.  At that point, it is basically competing with Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, which is an awesome racer, but I want to see Nintendo make it.

New DLC is out today and it's not bad.  New adventure map of course, amiibo support, new costumes and weapons, and a new character.

Twili Midna is pretty great character though because she is low level, I have to spend time leveling her which is abit annoying, but I like her more than I feel I do regular Midna just in her combo's.  She has a couple similar moves, though designed differently.  Great addition.  The costumes aren't bad for Link which has that silly postman outfit and Zelda gets the other one of the character I forget from Twilight Princess.  I like that they are pure costume changes and not recolors, though I believe the rest of the costume unlocks on the Twilight adventure map are just recolors for others.

The new spinner weapon that you get by using the Link amiibo is abit underwhelming. It's not bad, but it's not a very interesting one.  For a free weapon that came as a bonus for having the Link amiibo, it's alright, just nothing too great.  The dominion rod though is awesome.  In it's normal mode, it's just a wand that has a glowing orb that attacks, but when you hit Y and summon the statue, it becomes a part of the combo, but also spawns in during the normal attacks now and really upping your damage and range.  It almost seems like the little star that Rosalina has in Smash Bros, that's in an extension of you and I like that.

And the new Adventure map is a new adventure map lol More stuff to grind through.

So, apparently there's going to be a 3DS version of the game now. Here's the Japanese trailer from Koei Tecmo. No word on a North American release date, but it's very likely that we'll get it not too long after Japan does.

This is pretty cool.  It'll also have two new characters, which are Tetra and the King of Hyrule in it and will have some sort of compatibility with the Wii U version.  Perhaps you can bring the new characters over to the Wii U game? Man, I sorta want this, but I still have so much left to do in the Wii U version of the game lol

This will be a good choice for those people (where obviously I include myself) that need some excuses for purchase this console, really hope that we can have a decent port in a non so future day, if not a very good alternative of this title cause at least me I'll purchase this title, by the way why the hell does YouTube ask me to login just to see this video, mature content maybe ?  >:(

^ Just a port, or a new game?

Looks like a port with some new content.  Tetra seems pretty cool doing things in a piratey way with a sword and flintlock combo, with the King of Hyrule being able to transform into the boat from Wind Waker lol

Here's some talk on the trailer.

And the rumor mill is stirring for the possibility of Linkle showing up as a secret character for this which would be pretty neat lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJPzgQwc6tU

I'm interested, it would make a fun portable game. :)  This must mean that HW was pretty successful for Nintendo as well, which is good.

BTW, don't believe anyone's mentioned it yet but they're also saying the 3DS version will unlock the new characters in the Wii U version. :D

This GameXplain video gives a more in depth look into things that I hadn't noticed before.  Now you can switch characters on the fly ingame.  No more obnoxiously having to race over to help a character about to die on the other side of the map.  Game could also be a more stripped down experience for obvious reasons such as not having all the characters and maybe no amiibo support if the box art shown is final, of which it is still a standard 3DS box and not a "Only on New 3DS" box like Xenoblade Chronicles.  Kinda weird since it is a taxing game on the Wii U and Xenoblade just barely managed to run right as a stripped down Wii title, but we'll see.

The Nintendo Direct today announced that not only will we be getting the new characters from Legends on Wii U, but that there is a new character coming (Bird girl from Wind Waker) and there will be 4 all new DLC packs in a dedicated season pass, so I assume that means even more characters.  SO MUCH TO DO IN THIS GAME!

*EDIT*
Okay, apparently the season pass might be only for Legends.  If that brings more new characters, I don't know if they will be left to the 3DS only.  I hope not.  Was kinda wanting that new season pass to be on Wii U since I'm not really going to play the 3DS version much.

Apparently the Wii U version is getting new content too.  Not all of it, specifically nothing My Fairy or Adventure Map related, but the Wii U will get 4 new characters and 2 new weapons that are for Linkle and Toon Link.  I don't think this counts Medli as I think she's supposed to be free, so on top of the 5 characters you get for buying the game and transfering, there's 5 more coming as DLC.

It's kinda cool that the DLC for Legends is mostly based off handheld versions of Zelda.
