News / Re: Also On Platforms Feature
« on: December 01, 2021, 05:24:31 pm »
@jason THANKS A BUNCH FOR THIS!

This is a wonderful addition. I would be happy with this feature as-is with zero prettifying any day over not having this info presented.

Besides, it's always (relatively) easy to play with HTML presentation cosmetics. For instance:
  • there are CSS alternative table column/row colors (if hackily presenting the platforms in an invisible table with no padding/margins)
  • and I'm sure plenty of more flexible non-CSS table methods (like iterating through the comma-separated list of systems returned by some query & using alternating colors for each).
  • this section could be made to collapse/hide if it offends a few super anal design people too much.
The asks/suggestions I'd have is:
  • The "Also on platforms" should really exclude itself (a listing for "PS3 (NA)" need not list its own system as "also on").
  • And, it would be nice to know exactly how the "other platforms" are ascertained. I can imagine if this is via simple normalized text string matching across Name + Alt-Name there may be a ton of false positives -- and I can already see a bunch of missing variants in the few games I viewed. The (insanely hacky) bracketed release country lists should be omitted when performing matching. "MyGame [DE]" should match with "MyGame [FR]" and "MyGame [BE][NL]" and "MyGame". I know that is not at all easy -- and query speed would require something like maintaining a properly indexed normalized name (minus all punctuation, bracketed crap, parenthetical crap) -- but just a suggestion.
  • It would be ideal if someday individuals could manually both remove & assign cross-platform sibling relations to ensure this feature works optimally.
  • The accuracy could be even stronger if somehow linking for instance with GameFAQs (cross-platform release linking, game families, and genre hierarchies etc).

Sorry for the opinionated banter above. I'm super happy with the direction of this change!
Bravo!

2 dupes for PS3 (EU)

Tour de France, Le: Season 2014
https://vgcollect.com/item/67376 (preferred, 1 collection, better photo)
https://vgcollect.com/item/180945 (dupe, 0 collections, truncated photo)

One Piece: Pirate Warriors (barcode 3391891964395)
https://vgcollect.com/item/209510 (preferred, 1 collection, complete entry, proper name)
https://vgcollect.com/item/183495 (dupe, 0 collections, wrong name, wrong publisher/developer)

Apologies, the One Piece entries were BOTH from me -- I hadn't realized I made one already in 2020 so I ended up creating a complete improved entry today.

PS3 (EU):
WSC Real 09: World Snooker Championship
https://vgcollect.com/item/169527  (correct, in 2 collections including my own)
https://vgcollect.com/item/181362  (DUPE -- As "WSC Real 08" -- this game does not actually exist on PS3, 0 collections, just 1 editor)

Note:
"WSC Real 08: World Snooker Championship" was released only on Wii on Nov 14 2008.
Later in April 3 2009 the same game was released on PS3 & X360 as "09" or "WSC Real 09: World Snooker Championship".

Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WSC_Real_08:_World_Snooker_Championship
See also, near identical covers.
I live in Ireland and can and did buy 07, 09, and 11 -- but there is no "08" listed at CeX or elsewhere.

Developer: Curve Digital (for https://vgcollect.com/item/161284) -- currently only have "Curve Games" (https://www.curve-digital.com/en-us/games/)

Curve Digital is a publisher not a developer. Their developer name is Curve Games.
https://www.mobygames.com/company/curve-digital-publishing-limited

Actually, Curve Digital encompasses both publishing & development -- with original Curve starting as developer and later adding on publishing function.

Curve Games Limited ceased to exist as an entity around 2016 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curve_Digital).
Their studios URL (http://www.curve-studios.com/) per Moby (https://www.mobygames.com/company/curve-studios-limited) actually just redirects now to curve-digital.com which is both publisher & developer (owns a few in house studios).

Furthermore, the specific game in question:
Bomber Crew Complete Edition for PS4 (https://vgcollect.com/item/161284 , a 2019 physical release of which I own 3 copies) explicitly says:
"Developed by Curve Digital, Published by Merge Games."
(that should be visible in a high quality screenshot, otherwise I can email you my own screenshot. I don't want to host a photo online just to include it in this forum)

That release was actually developed by the specific in-house studio "Runner Duck". (you can see its logo on both front & back of the PS4 game cover art)

So, if you won't add "Curve Digital" as a developer, then there is no reason not to add "Runner Duck" as a dev studio.

Thanks.

I just submitted a new entry and somehow two DB records got created in a single operation.

It's very possible my finger did something like a double tap on the submit button to cause this.
Oddly, both records are sequential and identical EXCEPT only the second (larger id) has the screenshot.

DUPE: https://vgcollect.com/item/202849   (identical, except no screenshot!)
GOOD: https://vgcollect.com/item/202850   (has screenshot)

Assassin's Creed: Rogue Remastered

REAL: https://vgcollect.com/item/180053   (original without colon)
DUPE: https://vgcollect.com/item/195309   (i accidentally created this months ago.. It has a colon like all other AC games on PSN PS4)

I think the Dupe has the preferred name though. (otherwise the other dozen games should be renamed)
