Classic Video Games / Re: What is your principal goal collecting games?
« on: September 05, 2020, 07:00:08 pm »
It's been only around 5 years I've started VG collecting. At first my goal was to get most games and consoles I had when I was a child, then get the ones I always wanted or that I discovered and loved via emulation. I don't collect any game I don't intend to play. My priority is arcade games, shmups, run 'n guns. I absolutely love the Switch for that, and always keep an eye on the many limited-time release publishers out there, which are my absolute priority; I would hate to pay scalper's prices if I ever miss the release of a game I'm interested in (not that it didn't happened already). I know I'll have time to get the more popular titles at some point later.

Site Feedback / Option to display loose item in collection?
« on: December 19, 2019, 11:32:37 am »
Hi VGCollect team, congrats and thanks for this great database!

Question: If an item is loose, could it display the Cart/Disk/Item thumbnail instead of the Case/Box? I mainly collect loose, and this option would reflect my collection more accurately.

(edit) Since a lot of games don't have a thumbnail for the loose item, maybe it could just be an option?

The Tribute 64 seems to be the ultimate Horipad-style controller. Wired versions are already out, with wireless versions coming soon :)

General / Re: Your Ideal Game Room

That's my kind of topic at the moment, because I'm moving from Europe to the US in a few days. I have a collection of 600+ games but I don't plan on bringing everything there, at least not yet (don't know how many years I'll stay in the US). Moving is actually a convenient way of curating my collection. I'm only bringing an AV Famicom (fav console), a Switch and a Super NT, for now. I've dumped all my SFC and SNES games to the Super NT so I don't need to bring them with me yet (I could also have downloaded them I know :D). On the next trip I'll bring my Saturn for sure.

My ideal game room is always to be able to pick up any game and being able to play it immediately. Also, I want to buy a TV with the lowest input lag possible, as well as a CRT.

General / Re: What cleaners do you use for video games and consoles?

99 percent isopropyl alcohol, both on plastic cases and contacts. I'm a recent collector, but so far I didn't have any problem with this method. Used either on a q-tip or on a white sponge (Mr Cleaner magic eraser type) – although when using these sponges I tend to be careful as they can deteriorate the texture of some plastic. Goo gone then some windows cleaning liquid for the stickers.
