Looking back at my collecting goals for 2023...

1. Finish NTSC PS3 set.

I did not. I do have 33 left and 12 i discovered missing manuals or inserts that need updating...

2. Finish letter A for NTSC ps1.

I did not. Complete scarcity of ps1 locally on even cheap filler titles and I refuse to pay excessive shipping fees to ship only individual titles online, with no luck finding lots that include mostly the titles I need. At present, I need 24 more letter A ps1 titles.

I did however go hard at letter A on PS4. I picked up probably 50 titles last year, right now I only need Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon and Assassin's Creed Valhalla Ragnarok Edition (best buy) to complete the entire PS4 NTSC library for letter A. Should be doable this year, and I'll start Letter B and see how far along I get in that. At present I'm missing 25 titles for PS4 letter B.

3. Finish letter A for NTSC ps2.

I tried to do this via mutual trades through my small 1k population Playstation Collectors of Canada facebook group. I only found a couple mutual trade partners but managed to get a few more letter a ps2 titles. At present, I have 23 titles left for PS2 letter A, should be doable this year.

4. Work toward finishing NTSC PS1 longboxes.

Not many people selling or trading these anymore locally without resorting to ebay. I have been holding out, but it's getting scary. Little to no progress made, still need about 60 longboxes.

5. Reach 2000 PS4 games, currently at 1636.

I killed this one. Made it to 2300 by end of 2023, and now at 2400 in april 2024. I think by end of this year I can reach 2500. At that point, I will need about 400 more titles to reach the full ps4 NTSC, which is projecting around 2900 at the moment (with all planned releases).

6. I hesitate to set new goals as I have myself spread pretty thin, but I would like to make some progress tracking and planning to work toward completion of the "Toys to Life" sets (disney infinity, skylanders, and lego dimensions).

7. As always, continue to find, research, and document new finds/variants, eventually starting a related youtube channel, and adding to the body of knowledge on this site, and my own playstation collecting website.

Site Feedback / Can't add items to collection when logged in
« on: January 16, 2024, 08:55:35 am »
There is something wrong with the site today. I can login and see what is in my collection, but if I click on a title the usual button to add to collection is missing, it is also blanked out next to the place where it says whether or not you have it in your collection, yet you can go to your actual collection page and find it there.

I'm finishing the PS3 North American Set this year, shifting focus to finish PS1 and PS2 and PS4 sets. Each console I have around 600 titles remaining. I'd like to continue at the pace I am going and reach 2500 ps4 titles by the end of the year, and approximately 400 titles left for each console (PS1, PS2, and PS4) to reach the full sets.

yes, #10 "the set" is purely a collectible. Playstation Network titles and early Sony experiment with digital sales market. Most people threw away the cases after claiming the vouchers, and the set saw limited distribution in select Latin countries, making it a unique Central America quest to find surviving copies. Hohokum and Dead Nation saw wider distribution and were available on EBAY for quite some time, the other three only appeared once to my knowledge.

As far as I have read online, this game has been cancelled and never released (cancelation coming recently, but 3 years after release date).

Bounty Battle (PS4)

Not sure if the cancellation also applies to the other console versions, but gamefaqs has the ps4 entry as cancelled.

2007-2015 I didn't buy much in my mid twenties to early thirties, once I paid off my student loan and my son was born, I figured I'd earned the right to spend on myself. I've been spending irresponsibly ever since. During covid was probably the least, due to injury and exponential rise in prices and local scarcity. Paying more to buy online and huge shipping costs were a big turn off. Spent a couple years networking and making careful trades and I've almost weathered the storm and getting back to my old game a day, sort of ways.

I have three examples of PS2 covers that had art and label variations that only released in quebec. I'd like to add them to the site but I'm not sure how to distinguish them. I'd propose adding [CD > QC] to allow the province within the country, that way people that don't know QC can at least follow that it is within canada.

General / Re: Which games do you value higher than $100?
« on: March 11, 2023, 10:22:41 pm »
Games that has a huge emotional impact for me and high replay value definitely have more than $100 value in my mind, regardless of what the market or msrp suggests. Some personal examples I'd make are what I consider groundbreaking or revolutionary titles I experienced at the time they released when the state of gaming and the world and my age (culture/politics/demographics), can never be replicated. Playstation examples, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken series (but Tekken 3 specifically)....this list goes on. Experiencing these in their heyday, pre-internet era, and trying to get to the details and secrets, really became engrossing. Also hard to find that kind of time for games as an adult, but the internet has us spoiled along with the instant gratification and hand holding in games, that don't satisfy the desire for challenges and surprises. Harder to up the ante and find the same emotion as the medium evolves more slowly and we get older. Gaming hasn't lost the wow, but it certainly begs the question. How to impress. I'd rather drop more money on the older "inferior" games, due to this intangible, sort of factor, where the games needs to be judged based on those contextual factors I mentioned earlier.

I've got a bunch of playstation games where I am the single owner on this site, as I created the entries. I've made a point of intentionally seeking out new NA region items that haven't made it onto the site. Hoping to help future pundits track their collections and validate obscure items. I think it is great that this site tracks how many people have registered as owners of a particular item. It helps clear up a lot of speculation, assuming people are being honest, and you can also see what is sought after, by how many people have it on their want lists. Sometimes more people want and item than actually own it. Kinda cool to see where demand outstrips supply, and what is actually sought after compared to what is valuable, or both, when compared to the sales data.
