General / Re: Video Game Resolutions and Goals in 2023
« on: December 28, 2022, 01:18:17 am »
Cut down on my collection. I've spent the better part of the last decade collecting and I'm pretty content. I don't feel the urge to spend any more of my money on inflated eBay prices.

So my goal for next year is to only have games on my shelf that I really care about. Everything else is either getting stored away or sold online.

I've already made a pretty big spreadsheet for what I plan to put on display. If my numbers are right then 45% of my collection is going to be boxed up.

I'd like to be an indie game dev and reach the likes of someone like Toby Fox.
But it takes a lifetime of amassing skills and tremendous dedication to make your own game, let alone a good game that sees any kind of popularity.

Modern Video Games / Re: Nintendo Direct 9.13.22 thoughts?

With every Nintendo Direct I'm reminded more and more that I am no longer Nintendo's target audience.

I'll tune in for the big games like the new Zelda and Mario titles, but it seems anime JRPG style games sell more than the games I like. Sign of the times I suppose

Only noticed the soundtrack was already listed when it was too late.

How come you want to play this awful port?
Just use MAME on your PC. There's still a really active community online for it on fightcade. Otherwise the dreamcast port is the best home console release.

Those look pretty nice! How do they open and close? Or do people have to ship their item to you so you can do a one time seal?

Also curious about how much postage to Australia would be. I've got a boxed copy of the Neverhood and a couple fat PS1 games I'm considering sealing up.

Classic Video Games / Re: The Price of PS2 Games Are Exploding
« on: July 21, 2020, 08:30:25 am »
I could have picked up any xbox or ps2 game I wanted 4-5 years ago for about 5-10 bucks. Now on eBay those same games have doubled in price.
Still not alot, but there has defintley been a small spike.
Gamecube games were always high because of people hoarding nintendo products.

After I got bored with my retropie, I added the kodi player and watched classic dragon ball episodes on my CRT. Worked great, and could all be controlled with my controller.

If it's strictly retro just two come to mind
-PAL PS1 copy of Gex for $30. Goes for about quadruple that online now. Seller restricted shipping to Aus only so that helped me grab it early.
-Ordered a copy of a Piggyback MGS1 guide for $20, turns out it was sealed and came with an additional sealed demo disc attached. Goes for $500+ on amazon.

I'm mad at everything going digital, but I'm more mad at the sudden raise in popularity video game collecting saw after 2005-2008.

The market became flooded with people buying old games not because they wanted to play them but because they saw it as an investment.

Garage sale deals became less frequent, online deals were quickly bought out, even pawnshops caught on and started to jack up the prices of older games tenfold.

I can guarantee that most of the people who own a sealed copy of Earthbound don't even care about the series.
They're the same people who try to push the idea of sealed game grading.

Collecting sealed consoles to stash looks like a gateway to someting bad.
I get this is a collection site, but I urge you as one Australian to another, to reconsider and think over what your doing.

Having huge game collections I can understand as you amass a range of readily available games to play on their native hardware.
Hell I do it, and while I've defintley slowed down in the last few years to focus on actually playing them all even I can admit I was swept up in a hoarder mentality for a few months.

But collecting the same brand of consoles with just special variants?
Maybe collecting one or two variants or collecting different consoles types entirely (Sega, Nintendo, etc) could be interesting. But from the sounds of it these are just piling up in your house.

If its got to the point that your reaching out to strangers on a site you've never spoken to before to aquire this next one, I think you're heavily relying on these to feel gratification and that's a red flag.
It's in my opinion you should only really collect stuff that either:
A: Wont make you break the bank
B: You have a valid interest in and can see yourself using

Want to clarify that I'm not annoyed or angry with you. Just concerned you might be getting a bit too into invested in this. I've been there before and I'm sure a few others on the site have gone through it as well.
Hell some in the thread are wishing you luck so maybe I'm in the wrong. Just keep this in mind when buying these. To each their own.
