The Switch 2 will come with a removable visor that allows you to strap it to your face and use it as a VR headset. It will also have scented controllers. My uncle works at Nintendo and he told me.

I don't think newer generations are ever going to match the mystique of the older ones no matter what happens.

This is likely true for more than video games. We live in a mass-produced, focus-group-driven hellscape where real creativity and boundary pushing is selected against by market forces. Look at movies. Hollywood is now a byword for unoriginal schlock for the lowest common denominator, but there was a time when Hollywood movies could be unconventional and daring and tell stories that didn't have Captain America in them. How many cars from the 1960's are dripping with mystique? How many from the 2000's?

The eighth generation of video games is like every other consumer product now. Creative passion has been replaced by a cynical drive for profit. The PS4 doesn't have a fascinating history behind its creation. It wasn't some odds-defying underdog story like the NES, and it has no interesting figures like Nolan Bushnell in it. The PS4 story is "Sony wanted more money so they made a new black rectangle."  No one will ever look back on the WiiU and think "Wow, what a unique and iconic thing that was. What a heady time it evokes," any more than anyone will say that about Ke$ha.

It really has one of the most extensive and varied libraries

That library includes five different games based on Bratz dolls. I would be hesitant to call the size of the library one of its positive traits when that size is due to the amount of filler in it.

This is the best cartridge cleaning kit for those who can open their cartridge shells:



I'm 100% serious. Rubbing a pink eraser on the cartridge pins is the best way to clean any game that isn't corroded or in some other way damaged. Follow it up with rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip if you want.

I can confirm anecdotally what Shadowzero says. I used to work at a book store that bought used electronics. If someone had ever come in and asked if we had any controllers lying around, we would have happily plunked two cardboard boxes of untested orphan controllers in front of them and said "go to town."
I don't believe that most places outside of specialty game stores will try to repair broken stuff. There isn't time in the day for stuff like that if the store is remotely busy. Mostly places that sell used merchandise want it to come in and go out as fast as possible and they'll be happy to unload otherwise unsellable stuff on you if you ask.

I don't really care what it looks like, but the thing that irritates the crap outta me regarding Ninja Gaiden Trilogy is that it doesn't have any options for button mapping. It forces you to use B and A. Why? If you're not going to give me options, why wouldn't Y and B be the default setting? It's clearly better. What idiot would think B and A on a SNES pad is the correct way to play platformers?

The PS2 Slim has a brake which prevents the disc from spinning while the lid is open.

The brake shoe, in the larger circle, presses against the edge of the disc with a spring. The prong in the smaller circle goes into a hole when the lid closes and causes the shoe to retract.

If your brake is damaged or missing it will likely not be simple to fix, but perhaps knowing this will be helpful to you.

I wonder if a working spindle and laser assembly from another disc drive would work. I don't know how standardized they are, but it would be an interesting thing to attempt.

In practice, there is no difference between daisy chaining 2 power strips and using a power rail.

I don't know about that one. For low amp draw yeah, probably true, but in my experience adding more connection points increases resistance and increases heat. Will you burn your house down doing this? Probably not. Will 20 game consoles running at one time even draw enough amps to trip a breaker? Again, I doubt it, unless you have knob and tube like oldgamerz.

But still, I gotta say: Don't plug a power strip into another power strip. Just don't do it.

This thread has reminded me that I didn't bother buying the Ninja Gaidens on NES because I had the Trilogy for SNES and I really should fix that because I'm not such a cheapo these days.
